I was bitten 10 days ago while having morning coffee in Palma Nova-unbelievably painful for days. Taking anithistamine from pharmacy it dn't help or the antibiotic cream they sold me. In future I will carry tee tree oil and apply a drop directly to the bite.
Boots have a sun lotion containing repellent, which I had but didn't have on that day!!

Some years ago, while living in Mallorca, I got terrible tiger mosquito bites. It was in July. I had an allergic reaction to each of them and they swelled up into enormous red bumps (that even the pharmacist was shocked by) which were terribly itchy and hot. I got some hydrocortisone cream, but it hardly helped at all. The thing that works very well, is to apply ice directly to the bite and keep applying. It works. Unfortunately and unbelievably, the itch continued for six months and I had scars from scratching, that lasted over a year.

I love Mallorca so much; especially Puerto Pollenca but every time I've been these little blighters ruin several days of a holiday even using repellant, aircon, plug-ins, citronella candles and incense sticks.
Last time I could have chopped off my toes in order to relieve the pain and itch!! Hate them with a vengeance!

@@MallorcaUnderTheSun Thanks Alex. When it gets unbearable I’d try anything. The hotel staff used to give me a banana and some vinegar to try. Even cream from the chemist didn’t really help until the bites were past their peak. I must be a prize feeding ground for them as I was always bitten the most.

I feel like the goverment in Mallorca could learn a lot from the Disney Magic Kingdom and how they deal with mosquitos over there. Disney does a ton of stuff behind the scenes to control them since the land around the parks is perfect for mosquitos, yet you never see any.

May and September are the best months in my humble opinion from having lived on the island for six years. December and January are the coldest months with the most rain, high humidity, and many storms leading to problems like flash floods, black mold growing in doors and water getting into apartments and even shopping centers, shops etc due to poor construction.

I get what you are saying Alex, .. but I've really been lucky in January , ... I've been multiple times and at worst , we've had two days of rain.
You will get bored with me saying this ....winter brings such a different feeling to the island, not rushed like the Summer months and as you know so well , Puerto pollensa & old town is far better walking around in the winter months, than being in the UK.
October I've been a few times too, again though the weather was very good most of the time , although one week we had it was cold , damp and storms.
I loved it though, as it was so rewarding to see a different side of Mallorca.

They usually love me (probably due to all the wine I drink 😋). Not looking forward to all the bites when I'm there in July but the advice on fans is probably the best to keep them away, they don't like moving air and it probably also dissipates the carbon dioxide we breath out that attracts them. For relief from bites I found using swabs and ethanol help take away the itching. I've never found a repellent that works, the only thing they probably repel is other people as thy usually smell really bad. 😟

Mosquito bites, after being bitten most of my life mostly whilst fishing and then going to Mallorca for the first time I'd had enough, I tried many sprays all to no avail. No internet so looked for old remedies in books, nothing caught my eye except Marmite
I had come across this some time ago tried it but didn't work but I only used it now and again, this time I decided every day on toast was the best way to do it, a year later and no bites I went back to Mallorca for the ultimate test, never been bitten since!
Mentioned it to my Dr he just smiled and said I prescribe vitamins when people go abroad ( might not work for everyone )
The odd mossie dose land on me, but never stays long.
    Good luck, best wishes

@@MallorcaUnderTheSun yes, I had scars that lasted years, but most have finally gone. WARNING: So this is going to sound gross, but it´s the truth and it works. The most effective thing to do is actually to wash your hands with soap, clean and disinfect the area of the bite well with soap and water/alcohol wipe for example and then squeeze out whatever the mosquito has injected into your skin as much as you can without damaging your skin or causing bleeding and without causing too much pain (ie stop if it´s too painful) and then clean and disinfect the area again and wash your hands with soap again. No more itch and it will start to heal, If after a while, it still itches, then there is still stuff injected by the mosquito in there. It´s whatever the mosquito has injected that causes all of the itch and inflammation and the only way to stop it is to get rid of it. This works, but easiest and much more effective if done in the early stages of the bite. The problem with anything like this is risk of infection, so that´s why it is not generally recommended, but I can confirm that it does work.

Best way to treat Mosquito bites and stop the itching is to apply a Hair dryer on hot setting as long as you can on the bite, You will find that the pain disappears completely

Go in Late May. Few Mosquitos, fewer crowds, refreshing temperature sea. They like the (deep level) heat, hence they just kicked off.
