In Finland, we have one product called Termacell that works really well for mosquitoes. Unfortunately, this device cannot be taken on the plane, but I suggested to them that they could try to get the product for sale in Mallorca because it really makes it easier to be here in Finland in the summer in the middle of the mosquito seasons.
Mosquito bites, after being bitten most of my life mostly whilst fishing and then going to Mallorca for the first time I'd had enough, I tried many sprays all to no avail. No internet so looked for old remedies in books, nothing caught my eye except Marmite I had come across this some time ago tried it but didn't work but I only used it now and again, this time I decided every day on toast was the best way to do it, a year later and no bites I went back to Mallorca for the ultimate test, never been bitten since! Mentioned it to my Dr he just smiled and said I prescribe vitamins when people go abroad ( might not work for everyone ) The odd mossie dose land on me, but never stays long. Good luck, best wishes Ken/Spud
I was bitten 10 days ago while having morning coffee in Palma Nova-unbelievably painful for days. Taking anithistamine from pharmacy it dn't help or the antibiotic cream they sold me. In future I will carry tee tree oil and apply a drop directly to the bite. Boots have a sun lotion containing repellent, which I had but didn't have on that day!!
Some years ago, while living in Mallorca, I got terrible tiger mosquito bites. It was in July. I had an allergic reaction to each of them and they swelled up into enormous red bumps (that even the pharmacist was shocked by) which were terribly itchy and hot. I got some hydrocortisone cream, but it hardly helped at all. The thing that works very well, is to apply ice directly to the bite and keep applying. It works. Unfortunately and unbelievably, the itch continued for six months and I had scars from scratching, that lasted over a year.
I feel like the goverment in Mallorca could learn a lot from the Disney Magic Kingdom and how they deal with mosquitos over there. Disney does a ton of stuff behind the scenes to control them since the land around the parks is perfect for mosquitos, yet you never see any.
I'm sure there's some things to learn, i.e. mainly to get rid of standing water to prevent mossies from breeding, but also Magic Kingdom is like 43 ha, Mallorca is 36401100ha. That's 950000 times larger area to puddle proof..
They can pose a serious risk, if not treated. In India a young man from UK died within a week. Take malaria tablets, wear dark clothes the opposite in area with midges.
I went to Zambia several years ago and took Malerone tablets one before I went and one every day I was there. Also for a week after getting back home. I also sprayed myself with Jungle. I also had a plug in. I still got bitten but it stopped me getting malaria. The dangerous ones come out at night
Last year the hotel bar seemed to be their fave place.. and I was bitten that last 2 nights... This year (end of May again but a different hotel) I was covered in repellent and not a problem... until I got back to the UK... they seem to love their outside spa at my gym at 6am
I use original source lavender shower gel when I’m away , have a shower before bed and it really does help. Oh and a plug in and I don’t wear perfume, just got lavender and geranium roll on deodorant that I use on my body as well so I don’t smell too bad !! Lom oh and got a bite sting pen. I am always prepared and it usually works. And always take an antihistamine each day .

@@MallorcaUnderTheSun Thanks Alex. When it gets unbearable I’d try anything. The hotel staff used to give me a banana and some vinegar to try. Damn mosquitoes. They can also be very painful, and also get into any nooks and crannies in your clothing, also if you scratch them they can scar you. BEWARE. Thanks Alex.
@@MallorcaUnderTheSun yes, I had scars that lasted years, but most have finally gone. WARNING: So this is going to sound gross, but it´s the truth and it works. The most effective thing to do is actually to wash your hands with soap, clean and disinfect the area of the bite well with soap and water/alcohol wipe for example and then squeeze out whatever the mosquito has injected into your skin as much as you can without damaging your skin or causing bleeding and without causing too much pain (ie stop if it´s too painful) and then clean and disinfect the area again and wash your hands with soap again. No more itch and it will start to heal, If after a while, it still itches, then there is still stuff injected by the mosquito in there. It´s whatever the mosquito has injected that causes all of the itch and inflammation and the only way to stop it is to get rid of it. This works, but easiest and much more effective if done in the early stages of the bite. The problem with anything like this is risk of infection, so that´s why it is not generally recommended, but I can confirm that it does work.
Can I also just add that friends at our hotel had their wallet stolen out of their pocket whilst shopping in Alcudia port. Please be careful, and never put your wallet or purse down when paying for something as someone on our coach trip to soller had theirs stolen whilst paying for goods a few years back.
