    Thank you so much for raising disability issues in this and other videos. As someone who has reduced mobility (now using a walker but soon going to use a power wheelchair) and a son with autism, you cover what many ignore and I am so grateful.

    Hi Alex we come very year to Mallorca and love it. We always have a hire car and can only go by our own personal experience. Once we parked in a car park near Old Pollensa going to the Sunday market - when we got back someone has gobbed on the front window of the car - this was just after Brexit. The car we took out in May of this year had really bad deep key scratches on the paint work. So there is a minority of people who do not like tourists on the Island but on the whole people are friendly and we have always felt safe. This would not stop us coming...

    As a Spaniard I would say there is a lot of populist toxic politics going on in Spain in general. Prices have risen, especially rentals, real estate, mortgages... due to bad policies and lack of protection to owners. Some of the latter spills over to blaming foreigners seeking to buy or rent homes permanently, not against tourists in particular. Nevertheless, the culprits sit somewhere within Spanish politics, not beyond our borders.

      It's not false! After a lovely meal in Palma early last night, we got caught up in the march. We didn't know one was planned - and I'd only heard the day before that tourists weren't welcome. I asked the young taxi driver if it was true - he tried to explain it was more about All inclusive and foreigners buying property. However, the march was intimidating loud. The placards message was clear. The hotel staff this morning seems to have a bad attitude. Don't get me wrong, I don't blame them - it's the same in the UK, kids can't leave home.

    I think it's a tricky problem to unpick, but I do understand the rental problem for locals in places like Barcelona, we have the exact same problems here in the UK with AirBnB. Regardless of misreported local sentiment of a minority, as with a lot of other places I've considered, the number of tourists, as shown in your videos, is ironically off putting. We always only travel towards the beginning or end of season and since the koof tourist numbers have increased significantly no matter where you go, even the Caminos are getting busy for walking. We like getting around locally, as we're not resort/beach people, also Mallorca used to be great for a driving holiday, but if it's getting difficult why bother if we're adding to the problem? So, I do understand when people decide it's not for them anymore irresepctive of tabloid misinfomation. I can recommend Dubrovnik in April, but not in high season. Madiera...forget it, it's far too overcrowded now especially for walking. My partner's Turkish, been twice, and that'll do for us...

    I own a property in Tenerife. The British press has totally inflated the anti tourism sentiment in Tenerife. Sure there are one or two vandals writing tourists go home, ( the usual suspects) but I have never seen any of these messages, only the same one repeated regularly in press photographs. The demonstrations are all about low paid low skilled occupations not paying enough money to cope with the inflation that has taken place over the recent decade and shortages of rental properties and increasing rents.The Government attitude to long term landlords making it very difficult to evict problem tenants, even those who don’t pay the rent has caused many long term landlords to switch to the short term holiday rental market. This has caused a shortage of rental properties for workers and consequently following the laws of supply and demand rents have increased. This has nothing to do with “unwelcome” tourists.

    • @LoremIpsum1970
      @LoremIpsum1970 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      You're right, it's not tourists to blame, mostly. Short term rentals, like AriBnB, are a problem, look at Barcelona and no one can deny that. This is happening the world over, so it's not unique to Spain. Just take a look at Cornwall and Devon...same story. If it's a real problem. all that will happen is locals will leave the Islands, unless they build more affordable housing...

      Look at Barcelona, think they'll disagree with you. Even Ibiza has real problems with housing. Just like in the Canaries, it's lack of available and affordable housing, low wages and the increase in homes bought for rentals, it's not the tourists themselves. No new housing investment is being made and when it does there's complaints about loss of natutral habitat...can't win. The main question that needs to be asked is how many young locals are leaving the Island, that will be the real measure whether this is a problem or not. PS I guess you don't live in Cornwall 🤣

BUT overtourism is a growing problem everywhere, you can only have so many cars, cycles, busses that at some point you will reach oversaturation. When who knows! Will there be a cap on numbers? How they do that will be interesting as tourist taxes don't work just look at Venice lately.

    Be careful what you wish for people. Tourism is important all around the world. We as humans should be free to roam (as long as we are respectful). Majorca is a lovely place but there are plenty of other places to visit. Ive been visiting for several years and will be there in July. If I experience any animosity, then I'll go elwewhere. We will be to coming to Mallorca at the end of the month, been going to Mallorca for years since 2005. Love the place and its people and we have made some real friends there. Unlike a lot of people we have also over the years spent a lot of time on the Island at what is called out of season, why people don't go all year round to Mallorca I don't know? The problem is from what we have seen is once a place becomes popular everyone and there grannie wants a slice of the cake. And despite whatever is said here Mallorca and its population can only handle so many people on it, END OFF!
    Like most places including the UK little seems to be done by so called leaders that think about the future of its people. We lived in Cornwall for over twenty years like Mallorca it has huge problems with both tourism and how its own local populations live from day to day. This will be our last trip due to our ages but we will always look back on Mallorca with both love and affection as both a place and its wonderful people, and its thanks to them for the best times we have had ever.

    I don’t know why the British media has to keep making a big deal about this. The protesters are not against Brits or any other people from other parts of Europe. It’s all about over development and a drain on natural resources because the developers have been wanting to build more hotels, apartments and this has created high rents for local people who are only trying to make ends meet. So take it from someone whom has lived in Spain for 19 years you’ll get a warm welcome and Spain needs tourists they are not your enemy.

    All these protesters are conveniently forgetting that the reason that Mallorca has enjoyed such a level of prosperity is precisely because of tourism, which really started to take off (literally) in the 70's. Until then Mallorca was a backwater (beautiful yes, but poor). In rural areas donkeys & carts were the norm & either growing crops or fishing were the only real source of income for the peasant inhabitants. They themselves were more than happy to take the opportunity to become prosperous as a result of tourism, in particular, the property boom. Just like any desirable location, property prices have rocketed, beyond the pockets of many ordinary Mallorcan families. To try to make tourists feel guilty for going to Mallorca & to blame them for the hike in property prices is perhaps understandable, but also hypocritical. After all, we have the same problem re house prices in the UK, & tourism can hardly be the reason for creating that one! It's the hotel ie tourist industry, the property & builders & speculators who are really to blame for putting Mallorca up for sale, not the tourists themselves!
