I’ve had mine since 2013 and it survived two deployments, countless scuba dives, endless abuse in the way of bumping into things, mud covering it and even a few grenade blasts in close proximity. I’ll never let it go. Cant recommend enough.

Just ordered on line from Walmart for $72! Great bargain on a watch that I can wear in the gym and outdoors cycling and hiking. Can't wait to start wearing it. Love your reviews and passion for watches! Thanks for your videos! New to your site and love the content!!

TGV: just picked one up today. Paid slightly more than you did, but they had several at our Army Post Exchange. As a Soldier, I have to agree this is an excellent piece to have while working out, in the field, and everyday work.
Your recommendations are definitely on point and you’ve given me valuable tips and a greater appreciation for quality time pieces and horology as a whole.
    Cheers!

I know it's a late comment but I was browsing G-Shock videos, and this came up in searches and I don't know what's better.... the watch or those background jazz tunes! Never was drawn to negative displays, but based on comments, I may pull the trigger on this!

  • @KevAlberta

My friend just bought me one! What really sells me on it is the size, the completely enclosed buttons, and the face design. I have the regular display, red button color way. I had thought the gw6900 was smaller for a g shock, but when I had my hand on this I could tell it’s even smaller (a good thing). I been wanting a stop watch that goes more than 24 hours as well. Had to see what your thoughts were on this watch, glad to see you think highly of it too!

Yeah it is a great watch, it's the stealthiness that makes it magic. Also 200m WR, that cool green backlight and a very pleasant wristaction makes it well worth the money!

Love your videos. I own a tough solar version because I feel more connected in caring for the watch by giving it a charge in the window and not having to worry about battery changes for at least a decade or two. I feel that these watches really put some fun into our lives and give a yin yang feel towards a mechanical piece. A true enthusiast can appreciate all types of watches. For me they are stress relieving not having to worry about knocking it about accidentally. I have an analog digital version with 2 hands because I feel if I had a seconds hand it would need to be a smooth sweeper like our mechanicals because I cannot stand the second hand not hitting the markers precisely. I agree with you on the digital stopwatch over a timing bezel or even an analog chronograph. It is much more accurate with quartz technology and 1/100 of a second precision lends itself to quality. I also find it easier to read quickly than figuring out which sub-dials are for minutes and hours. Great choice and solid bang for e-buck! Glad to hear you use the alarms! Very excited to hear your thoughts on the upcoming Sinn!

I've put my g shocks through hell. I have 20 plus. They are amazing. My most recent is the King G. It's huge. Thank goodness I'm 6'5" and 235 pounds. I love the square g shocks. They're cool. I still have my first g shock from 20 years ago. It works perfectly and has never let me down. The solar atomic Casios are amazing. I'm so happy to see a person who can wear a Rolex one day and a G Shock the next. Great channel. Keep it up.

Haven't commented in a while but I still watch your reviews. I used to collect gshocks many years ago and recently dug out a dw5600 with 901 module and put a new battery in it. It still works fine and got me to looking at new models which is why I watched this older review of yours on the Mudman. Since I have small wrists like you and it looked good on you I ended up ordering three different models this week; the one you have, a standard model and the really dark O.D. model. I find them very comfortable to wear. Thanks for the reviews. Now that I have a better paying job in the middle of nowhere (SW Missouri) I can afford more watches. Keep up the good work and thanks again.

Dear TGV, I guess that G-Shocks are, generally speaking, one of the most controversial Topics in the Watch Forums and between Watch fans worldwide... ;-) Some (many) love them some others hate them! Some say that they're not even "real" watches! I was personally simply not interested in GS until a dear friend of mine, very much into them, showed me some of his beautiful versions, explaining me so much about them... :-). In the end, I bought 3 GS for my collection ha ha... never say never in life! Great vid as usual with you my friend. Take care :-)

And I've just bought a Seiko Orange Samurai all because I've started watching your channel, which is ace by the way. I've definitely got the bug and will be getting a Seiko SARB soon too. Digital watches have a huge place in my heart as they are the first type of watch I really fell in love with as a kid, my first being a Casio DBC600 calculator watch - I thought I had the future on my wrist.
I've collected G Shocks since the 90's and love them, everything from the colour array to durability makes them perfect for both my line of work and play, the Masters of G series being a favourite.

I have only just purchased a G shock about a month ago. Because I have a small wrist a mudman or any of the large G shock watches was out of the question for me. I did however look at the G shock 5600 and the 5610 models and finally got the negative display 5610 model mainly because it was all black, it has solar power and works from the atomic clock and the size was perfect for me. I love wearing the watch also because of it being so comfortable on the wrist. This is another good video and thanks for posting even though it is now four years since you posted it.

Thanks for your review of the Mudman G9000MS-1, TGV.
I own five G-Shocks currently. My favorite one is the G7900A-4 moon/tide watch, which is bright red with a positive LCD, so it's the opposite of your stealth Mudman as far as looks go. It does have some features in common with your Mudman however, including the dual stopwatches and the low-temp LCD. Also, even though the G7900 series G-Shocks are fairly large (around 50mm wide), they have floating wings under the strap to take up the extra gap, so it fits great on my 6.75" wrist.

My first g shock is GD-400mb full black military edition. I've looking for it and compare to another g shocks on the official web for a long time. Finally I received my black gd400 just a few days ago and I really love it. I love the original black bull bar and the clean design elements. That are the uniqueness compares to every other g shocks.

I purchased one of these from Amazon way back in 2013 the original battery is still in it and going strong. Amazing watch well maybe not the strap buckle that mine broke about 5 years ago and got replaced.
Other than that a great watch.

This G Shock has the most resistant band and bezel of them all.I Have a g9000 1v since 2007 and it has seen about 35000km cycling (trekking and mountain biking),many years of workout, ice skating every winter, snorkeling yearly many times, inline skating thousands of kilometers and worn on my skating gloves. It is the ultimate beater watch.I had many others during the years but this mudman model is one of the most comfortable, lightest, highly visible illuminator (not the neg display one),super tough.I changed it's battery last year and it has the same band and bezel and no cracks and it still looks good.Mine is made in Thailand...don't know about the newer made in China ones if they are the exact same quality as the older ones.My olive Rangeman has been worn 5% as long as this one and the band is already getting shiny.
You make very good and informative reviews, keep up the good work and wear your watches in good health! All the best!

Excellent! of the 5 G-shocks I have the Atomic Solar 5612 with AEL is my favorite, though lately I have to agree with you, I am almost loving my Invicta Automatic Divers much more, which I didnt think I would, cuz the clank clank of steel on some of my laptops or anything metal my wrists have to blend with. Anyway. I think you are spot on - you just are a basic horologist that likes the pieces. There is no just one out there.
for that I enjoy your videos tremendously and you do excellently with the technical.

My one and only G-Shock is the GS-1200B-1AJF GIEZ. I don't think it was ever sold outside of Japan. Unfortunately I didn't come across it until after I had moved back to the U.S. from Japan and had to use a proxy buyer. It's solar powered and takes a synch signal every day from one of several transmitters around the globe so it's spot on always.

I will definitely do it again! I've just watched this video and found this exact G-Shock on eBay! I've ordered it and should receive it in 2-4 weeks. Thanks again, as always... Really enjoyed you bringing up general Schwarzkopf and his famous dual watches. I remember seeing him wearing those on the news and you knew immediately he was someone who was very practical and didn’t mess around! Often I wear my watch on the left and my Fitbit on the right, does that make me cool like Schwarzkopf? ...yeah I didn’t think so...

Thanks for the review. I'm so torn between this and the 5600 solar atomic. Love the square retro look. But also love the look and design of this mudman. I too have small wrists and love the idea of a round robust g shock that is under 50mm. But the 5600 wears smaller than an skx. What to do, what to do. Best regards tgv I appreciate the review. God bless my friend.
P.s. I love classic Sci-fi and this definitely gives me that feel.

I work outside and my employer gave us $100 for working through the pandemic in 2020. I bought this watch and every time I wear it I am reminded of that year and how tough it was and it is a good momento. I work outside in Minnesota and having a watch that can function when it is -5F is great (try that with an Apple watch, I am not sure it would come through). I have the positive display version. He is right, it looks big but is small and doesn't dominate my 6.5 inch wrist like some G--Shocks do. I really like the AUTOEL feature. I can be typing like now and just flip up my wrist and get the lume without having to push anything. It is one reason I like it. Great watch. If you are on the fence, pull the trigger. You won't regret it.

I would love to use a negative display gshock but from experience they are just too low contrast to be viewable clearly indoors and at night. I wish they would increase the contrast by default even if it hurts the battery life. Some of the analogue/digital ones are ok though as long as they hands are easy to read such as the ga100cf!

I personally think this model of mudman in olive green is the most beautiful... also the g-7900- 3dr, it has a little detail in yellow but kind of in the big side ... gorgeous watch. Nice video by the way

The one with the AWG-100 from your recent live unboxing here. I like the two features I bought it for very much: having both an analog and a digital readout as well as having an atomic timekeeping feature. (Going off on a tangent: Those plus the fact that I'm interested in pilot watches is why I've been eyeballing a Citizen Skyhawk for years and years now.) There was a time in the past when I wish it had more than one alarm, however.

Man. I need to find mine. I'm pretty sure I had this model or similar back on deployment in 2011. Took it home to my parents after because the battery eventually died.
Thing was beat to hell, covered in paint and chemicals. Need to find her and clean her up see if I can get it working again.

Great video! Whats your opinion on the G-7900? It is the same as the mudman just with the moon and easier to press buttons...I just do not get why this G-Shock gets so little attention compared to the G-9000...i think its just the better watch of the two!

Might have sucked me into a whole new hobby. Thanks man!

I wish they had designed the newer mudman the same way this one is designed. it looks sleeker and cooler blacked-out, and with the two button guards on the right side being rounded and the left side being lower profile and square shaped.

What do you think about Casio G-Shock MTGs? They are shock resistant, because of metal case you can wear them not only with sport clothes and still look fine, because of solar and light charging you don't have to replace baterry risking issues caused during service etc. What is your opinion? I wonder if it could be good alternate to automatic mechanic divers which are more sensitive to shocks etc (I have just destroyed one again and consider buying Casio MTG which seems to be more universal). I preferred mechanic automatic to avoid opening to replace baterry but after using for a while I had to service it because of demage. What you would recommend?

TGV! Love the Mudman you picked up. Though I am expanding my wristwatch horizons I have to say the G-shock line & the few shocks I currently own are pretty much my favorite all around, take no prisoners, don't put up with any garbage, smack into the door frame as I'm walking by with no worries other than having to probably repaint that area of the door frame, fall off of my mountain bike on the trails dust it off and pedal away, takes a licking and keeps on........... oh wait that's the other one ;-)
All joking aside I have rocked a blacked out/negative display GD-100-1B pretty much almost every night at work for several years. The blacked out look is beautiful though I wish they would have included the black buckle like yours has. The negative display is downright easy to read in both sunlight and when lit in the dark & best of all I never have to worry about it! Though it is a larger size it wears comfortably on my 7 1/4 inch wrist and I barely know it is there. I also have the Ani-Digi GA100C-1A3 blacked out with the green hands. Very nice watch, identical case but different presentation. Lume is not so hot on that one and hence does not get worn much to work but it is a great affordable/stylish knockaround daily wear piece.
I had recently re-watched your excellent Rangeman video and will probably go that route for my next G, though I really like the blackout version the best other than the extra cost.
Thanks for this video and have a good one,
    David.
    P.S. I spy a Sherman ;-)

A Gentleman's Life Thank you! What happened to your Mudman? Did you flip it? I stupidly sold a Riseman which I will always regret. To rub salt in, they are getting rare and the prices are really high, well for a G-shock. Anyways, glad you like the variety, it is the spice of life right?

Two watches at once? I say go for it. I always thought the Schwarzkopf double wrister was the coolest. I think it was the fact that he didn't care what people thought, It was about his men and the functionality of having his two favorite timepieces on him. Total badass.
