Iga Swiatek SLAMMED for taking bathroom break during Wimbledon loss

  • Iga Swiatek is facing criticism from tennis fans after taking a lengthy bathroom break during her third-round Wimbledon loss to Yulia Putintseva. Some accused the world number one of gamesmanship and booed Swiatek after she returned from the bathroom. But I believe it's on tennis' governing bodies to prevent more controversies like these.

      @HullioGQ Usually players who are losing take washroom break, so they can calm down and regroup, and the other player can go for a break as well, if she or he wants to.

    • @HullioGQ
      @HullioGQ 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@verona64 I understand the reasoning behind taking a washroom break to regroup, but if you look at many instances, the player left waiting often loses their momentum due to the interruption. This tactic is frequently used strategically by the losing player to destabilize their opponent. While it may seem like a fair opportunity for both players to take a break, the reality is that it can unfairly impact the flow and rhythm of the game.

    I am not a fan of Iga;s fans (I am okay with Iga otherwise), but I truly don't find anything wrong with tennis players taking such a break, as they play in a singles sport, it's not as if they can switch with a teammate to take their place for a few minutes.
    However, she did go over her time and she should have been penalized for that.
    For the women's (or men's none majors), I believe One such breaks should be allowed ONLY if goes to a third set, and for the men Two if it goes five sets.

      As another commenter stated, there is clear video evidence in the past of Iga waving her hands in a distracting manner just as her opponent was about to hit the ball (Google it to see for yourself; the video does not lie). Thankfully, she has stopped that and, I believe, apologized, but that doesn't change the fact that she did it (she's guilty there, no doubt about it). That is blatant gamesmanship (some might say it's plain cheating). She also has made her opponents wait for her on the court before matches (usually while listening to music with headphones, seemingly ignoring her opponents' welfare), when the umpire has clearly stated to start play. And as recently as her match with Putintseva, she made Putintseva wait for her (at least once, besides the bathroom break) when Putintseva was serving, when the rules clearly say that you must play to the pace of the server. How does that make Iga a great role model for younger players? On the contrary, it doesn't, as it's very disrespectful to opponents and seemingly selfish and arrogant.

    • @michax77
      @michax77 8 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@fjosephgonzales6870 Is an apology not important? And if she hadn't apologized, you would have written that she didn't have the courage to admit her mistake. I've watched many of Iga's matches and you can see that she is always in her zone, for example, how long her opponents and the umpire at the net wait for her when she enters the court, because she always has to do everything as precisely as possible, i.e. put towels and drinks in one place or how long she takes to swing for a serve. She simply does everything so slowly and for so long, at her own pace, such are her habits, and that's also why it takes her so long to come back from toilet breaks, besides, she didn't get a warning so she didn't do anything wrong. Many tennis players take long toilet breaks.
      I remember once she got a warning for exceeding the time limit on her serve and Iga said directly after the match that others behave much worse on the court, and she simply does everything at her own pace, and not to disrespect to other tennis player. If such behavior is arrogant, what do you call it that Putintseva deliberately went around the net to avoid Iga, or in the previous match between Putintseva and Iga, Putintseva behaved like a goalkeeper in a soccer match, to distract Iga when she was serving, or she mocked Iga's behavior, and that's not disrespect? Putintseva is not a good example of a tennis player who knows how to behave.

    Not good if a bathroom break is being used as a strategic move against an opponent. Also, there is another antic which goes on which is not illegal but done strategically to upset the opponent, THE BALL TOSS. It is almost easy to detect when a toss is grabbed intentionally to throw off the readiness of an opponent. Does it work? It does. Is it fair? No, and should be carefully monitored during a match.

I can imagine the pressure on these players, but they are in such a heightened position that many players will never experience. Their ranking will change. They will lose matches. There will be hungrier players itching to replace them. It is the flow of tennis. I really wanted to see Naomi, Layla, Madison and Alycia go further, but Jasmine and Danielle are still active. Our criticism should be directed at her coaching staff and her relationship with her psychologist, which should not take place on the court. Swiatek is not a good sportswoman. She never has been. Yes, she is an excellent tennis player. However, there are players who use the bathroom break for strategic reasons.
