  • @captainfragger6295
    @captainfragger6295 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I think it's fair to mention that you said you have used it a couple of years. You have to perform maintenance on these things every year or two. That requires adding seam sealer around the seams to help keep it waterproof. And also spring something like silicone on the rainfly and around the body of the tent. I guess the factory stuff wears off. You can solve the door Problem by taking a cheap lightweight camping tarp and putting it under the brain fly and using guidelines to attach it to the ground and then using it with two poles to make an awning in front of course with two more guidelines. That keeps water from leaking anywhere around the door and you have a dry place outside as well. It works on Two And four person Coleman pop up tents. You can also hang a light if you use a small stick and a file clip or you could use a small rock and a piece of string with a slip knot through the top mesh. It won't hold anything large but I don't think you would be trying to use a huge kerosene lantern anyway. But it would hold a small battery powered lantern or even a candle as long as you let it hang down far enough not to damage the tent. Which in a two-man tent is almost halfway to the floor. I have a 4 man and a two man Coleman. And a two-man intense, and a one man intense which does not have a rainfly that you can easily use a hiking tarp. For the most part they handle high winds pretty good if they are staked down however, the doors are so dang tight that they will pop loose at the zipper when it starts jumping around from the tension of the Wind. I finally had that happen to me last night and I will probably be able to repair it. I got mine for camping off of a motorcycle. But you could go hiking with it. Like she said the tent Stakes are 6 lb. It's not that hard to use sticks as steaks so if you were trying to keep it even lighter you really don't need the steaks. Just remember that even the most expensive tents need maintenance from time to time. Also you can cut out a lot of the ground stuff by using a ground sheet.

    • @CampingGuidance
      @CampingGuidance  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @captain fragger Thank you so much for your comment and all the helpful tips! And yeah the factory stuff definitely wears off, so I gotta get some seam sealant for sure haha. I've never thought to make an awning, but that's a great idea! Though it'll add time to the set up process hahaha. But it's a cool idea! And yeah I agree the doors can be tight, I hope you manage to repair yours! 😊

    • @captainfragger6295
      @captainfragger6295 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CampingGuidance well the setup will be the same time. It's just when you want to put the awning on you just slip your tarp under the rainfly push it to the back and I guess you could have guy lines attached to it and just had two pegs. It would definitely take a couple extra minutes but you don't have to do it every time only When You're Expecting bad weather. You could probably even use a mylar blanket.

    • @CampingGuidance
      @CampingGuidance  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CampingGuidance I made out pretty good after that storm. Someone had lost the extender leg on their seven-person tipping tent and they were going to throw the whole thing away. So I took it. Went to Lowe's and for $9 got a steel rod the right size and cut it down. And I drilled a couple holes in it and put a screw with a wing nut in it. And now I have a working large TP tent. People with a lot of time don't realize that their gear can be easily fixed. The wind also tore up a gazebo which I was also given and I believe I can fix it as well. I looked online for replacement parts and the one for the TP tent was not listed anywhere I looked. So I made my own.

    I just purchased this is a four person variant. I have seen a lot of the reviews and a lot of the cons and they echo you almost tit for tat. My camping trip will be on Oct 1 - Oct 8 this year at Daniel Boone National Park in Kentucky. In preparation I have purchased water repellent/waterproof spray along with seam sealer for the rain with intent on applying them over the weekend, should the weather hold; I intend on applying multiple coats. Only time will tell how my tent holds up if I get rain when I go camping. I will not lie: I really wish all tents were waterproof, but sadly that seems to be reserved for the heavy duty canvas tents out there.
    I really enjoyed your video and how informative it was. I am now a subscriber.

It's great that you got the waterproof sprays cos this tent will definitely leak in the rain, unfortunately hahaha.
      Yeah I totally agree! I used to think all tents were waterproof too, then I started camping hahaha. Haven't got any of those heavy duty canvas tents though, maybe I'll give them a shot next time :) Let me know how your Coleman tent holds up during your camping trip! Safe camping Eric :)

    I’ve seen reviews on Amazon that say that the zippers get caught and break, is there anyway to prevent the zippers from breaking

    • @CampingGuidance
      @CampingGuidance  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey Ryker! Thanks for the question. Hmm yeah they're not wrong, I found the zippers and zipper track on this tent to be tighter than usual. Hmm, I'd zip everything up first before staking it down, and I wouldn't stake it out too tightly. Without the stakes, it's actually quite manageable working the zippers.

      @@CampingGuidanceis it better to leave the door unzipped when you pack it up or is it fine if you leave it closed?

    • @CampingGuidance
      @CampingGuidance  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@rykercritchfield921 Definitely unzipped is much better. The open door helps air to leave the tent much more easily when you're packing it up. If I'm not wrong I think it might have been in Coleman's instructions as well. I hope this helped! 😊

      Hi Erick, thanks for the question! The first mat I used (the 4-inch thick mat) is the Exped MegaMat Duo 10, which I highly recommend! The second one I used is the Coleman Quickbed (about 8 inches thick), which I don't quite recommend as much haha. Hope this helps! 😊

      @@CampingGuidance thank you for your response. I've been watching a lot of camping videos recently, though I've never gone camping in my life. I'm interested in trying it out, but I don't know where to start. Would you consider creating a video for absolute beginners showing what the minimum equipment and supplies you need to get started?

      @CampingGuidance  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Charmayne7 Hi Charmayne, thank you so much for your response as well, and for sharing! Hmm if you've never camped before, maybe you could try backyard camping or even a quick 1 or 2 day campout, just over the weekend or something, to see whether you like it. I highly recommend going for a shorter and easier campout. And thank you for the idea for absolute beginners! I'm actually backed up with quite a lot of editing work at the moment, so that might have to wait a while, but it's a great idea though 😊 Maybe in the meantime, I could leave you with some resources? I actually did a lot of reading up on REI resources, like these two articles - www.rei.com/learn/expert-advice/camping-for-beginners.html?series=intro-to-camping and www.rei.com/learn/expert-advice/camping-for-beginners.html?series=intro-to-camping
      Hopefully you find these helpful!

      @ML Roberts Hey ML! Thanks for sharing 😊 I'm so sorry you're having an issue folding it though, I had the same problem at first too! Hmm after I fold it down, mine collapses into two circles, which I then just push together, and it goes back into one small circle. I don't think I recall it folding into 3 circles. I think one key takeaway that really helped me is using my knee to press down on the end that you fold in "towards you". Once I learned this, the rest became a bit more simple. Let me know what you think!

    • @CampingGuidance
      @CampingGuidance  ปีที่แล้ว

      @ML Roberts Hey ML thanks for replying! 😊 Hmm I guess if you don't have the reach to fold it "towards you", then it definitely makes sense to return it. If you're still looking for a pop up tent, you could get the Quechua 2 Seconds Tents from Decathlon. The fold up is MUCH better than these Coleman tents. It's more guided, and you don't need to be of a certain height to fold it down. These Coleman tents are definitely of the more budget variety, hence the fold up can take some getting used to it. I'm sorry that we couldn't figure out your issue, but I'm glad that at least you would be able to return it and get your money back 😊
