As a Tunisian, i am baffled by the information in this video and the investment ! Everything was on point, you understood the importance of these figures in our culture the way we perceive them and not from an exterior's point of view ! In Tunisia, even to this day, we say jokingly that if there's a reason we're still okay it's sidi belhassen 😅 as if he will pray to God to protect this country. Those zwiy (plural of zawiya) were not only safe spaces for thikr and peace but also people would go there and bring food to the needy. My mom's grandma used to do that pretty much every week, it's called a ziyara. They bring couscous, and there, the poor will find asylum and also food. That's how in those societies people don't die out of poorness.
You made me want to visit those zwiy in my country so bad ! Amazing job !

A lovely tradition... I got some deep spiritual resonance from the video and it reminded me of a prayer:
“Feel the presence of all the Spiritual Families, all the means of God in all worlds, in all places, in all hearts and in all minds. The call of God is Universal. The response is Universal. This is the purpose of life: the call, the response, the expression, the forgiveness, and the return.” The prayer is from MV Summers' work.

Great video as always. I'm glad you got to visit Tunisia and shown something other than its tourist traps, very beautiful landscapes and spiritual resonance. You should come to Algeria next time, it also has, I'm sure you know, a rich tradition of sufism. You can visit the mausoleum of Abu Madyan el ghawth in Tlemcen and many other places. You'll be the most welcome !

I used to live in La Marsa and walked to Sidi Bou Said often. It is very beautiful
There was a touring sufi troupe of 'performers' who did shows and it was very powerful- there was percussion, dhikr, flag waving and chanting etc. The audience would get involved and many people had ecstatic experiences

Thanks for explaining islam and helping more people understand that it's a beautiful path.

Thank you very much for making this portrait of Tunis and its religious history!
You're more than welcome to come back anytime and I'll be happy to provide you with free accomodation.
N.B: A quick important historical note: Sidi Bousaid iconic blue color was added by the Baron Derlanger, a late 19th century French Jewish businessman, the village was in bad shape then and he investment his money to fix it, but in the process changed the color from the iconic dark green of Tunis and Muslim countries to that blue which ressembles Santorini in Greece.

I grew up right next to the Zawiya of Sidi Belhassan and i used to visit it with my grandma and her neighbour ( who was also like a grandma to me) so often! We would light candles and say dhiker together, I as a child only mimicked what the grow ups did or was excited to get all the candy and sweets when it was the time of Ziara. Now My Grandmother and Grandfather are buried in Zalez on that very mountain. Your video awakened a need to visit that amazing place.
