If you use Pro Tools, you can select all 32 tracks and assign all the inputs at once instead of 32 times. Click the first track, hold shift, click the last one. Then while holding shift, press Option and then command and click on the first track. Assign it to input 1 then the remaining 31 channels should assign the correct input as well.

In a perfect world, it should work that way but I know in Reason, you'll have to arm each channel you want to record individually. If you don't arm a channel, it doesn't record.

There is an alternative: Waves Tracks. It`s freeware, and it`s from Waves - which means quality at no cost. It works from buget-mixers(such as XR18) all the way to some higher-end consoles(such as ProX, which requires a network bridge, but still). Not everyone has the money for ProTools, so here is a free substitution which doesn`t compromise quality.

ProTools is really expensive for non-profit churches. Currently looking into Reaper (free trial, $60, supports Linux) and works great with our Behringer X32 compact. Ardour is a cheaper choice but it's not as easy to use.

3:20 "what's really cool about these mixing consoles is you can actually assign different groups of channels coming into your sound console to the different card outputs". Does this mean that a group of inputs can be outputted as one mixed output (let's say all mics)? I couldn't see this in the video, and it seems each individual input in the mixer is outputted to one individual output and it has its own track/channel in ProTools. Thanks for the clarification in advance! Keep up the great work!

Hey Jake, thanks for this video it's really helpful. We live stream our church services and I am curious if it would be possible to run everything into Protools , and then output that into our Live streaming encoder as the audio source? This would allow us to have a lot of manipulation over the sound quality of the live streaming sound using plugins etc. Our current setup is simple: We use a Mackie DL32R to live mix everything to the house, and then use an Aux Send to sent out to a USB Audio Interface into a computer which is where the encoder is. It works but its really just raw audio even though the Mackie Dl32R has some good built in plugins for each channel such as EQ,Compression etc. But it's hard to get a good sounding mix.

Great video! Question for you... we're trying to setup multitrack recording here at our church with a Midas M32 board and Cubase 10.5. I've followed your steps here and on a few other videos as well. But no matter what I do, I can't get the laptop to see the board when it's plugged in. I have the M32 software installed, everything looks correct and it has the option to select that device in setup options in Cubase, but when I select it it tells me "the selected device is not available." Any suggestions on what I can do here? This has been a few months of a process so far, so any help you can give would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Or if you have a smaller team and are not using a digital mixer you can record everything on a 6 channel Zoom H6 from your tracks direct outs.
We aren't using a digital mixer yet and we actually have more than 6 tracks. So we record all the "main" instruments and vocals on the first 5 channels (3 singing mics, piano and electric guitar) and record all the speaking mics, pads, and remaining instruments from an AUX send. Not ideal but not everyone has a digital mixer even if they are working towards it.

Hi! Great video! I am learning so much, I still have a doubt. (I'm not a sound guy btw, so excuse me if this is a silly question), as you said this is practically an audio interface. Can I do this for live streaming? Can the audio of the x32 output directly from the usb audio interface to the pc/mac and put it in a software like obs or wirecast? is this possible?

    • @andrewthomas9128
      @andrewthomas9128 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yep. You would put the configuration in 2i/2o mode and select the 2 adjacent channels you want to output. Any program where you can select an audio interface for the stereo left right would see the M32 as an audio interface and would get channel 1 as L and channel 2 as R

Not the "the next step is to create a new track" the proceed to complete 6 steps really really fast, forcing your viewers to have to pause countless times just to trace the actually steps we came here to learn.
So rather than you tell us that that next step is creating a track, show us how to create the track - it will help us to actually click on future videos.
Just some friendly advice from a frustrated viewer.

This is a tutorial on how to setup a multitrack,... not a beginners guide to Protools. Creating a track on pro tools is the easiest and simplest thing to do. Jake did a fantastic job explaining what the title of the video says

@@erickcorado_ I have found that taking feedback can be difficult, even for me. But it's not always to bring you down, in some cases, it's to help you get to the next level.
When the Bible talks about iron sharpening iron, it's not an easy process for both sides but the end result is a great product.
If all we give our brother is good feedback, how will he grow? I have seen a number of Jake's vids and this is why I have provided my feedback.
He can choose to accept it or reject it.
