Where did you buy/find the original game(2007) for PC, with working multiplayer? Or it's some kind of Moh2010 / BF bc2 multiplayer... where community supports the game?
I have the original disc, you can probably pick one up from ebay. No work arounds like moh2010 needed, it uses games for windows which is still running. Check the pinned comment for the Gears Discord mate

Is the community linked to Steam? Or people from the old PC-CD times are allowed to play online?

You forgot about classic series Halo. Halo: Master Chief Collection. Halo 2, 3 and Reach multiplayer are underrated.

I have this same problem. I had a code card with all Gears games and I could redeem every single one of them, except for Gears 1.
