I added value and stood out. My boss got competitive, started sending me snarky emails and just let me go - with zero negative feedback. So. Yeah.

I shine the most in my workplace. I train staff, I do presentations, my performance is outstanding. In the meanwhile my department manager bitches, bad mouths, spreads rumours, and I have even caught her telling my team to bully me.
We are currently playing a game where I complain, and she wriggles out of it. But I am going to get the bitch bang to rights sooner or later. If not I`ll sue as I have it all recorded lol.

An excellent way to stand out - always be the one willing to help others learn. Always be learning. And be willing to put yourself out there when the chance shows to improve yourself and help others, lend a hand. Everyone remembers the person who went out of their way to improve their game (or help another improve) a little.

This has backfired on me - the people I taught used me to get ahead and then threw me under the bus.

@@JenniferBrick Dear Jennifer. Is it rude to ask you, where does your surname come from? I think I have heard of it before, as one of the rare unusual ones. Thank you.

I really like your answer. But I would like add one sentence. All help others...only for the people who deserve you to do that. Not for toxic people at all. The more kind you are, they think that you are weak. Also set clear boundaries and not do more than you should help, Sometimes, people will use as doormat.

To get ahead in your career, you must tow the company line, even if you disagree with it's decisions or values. Actually, you need to have only one value - greed.

I'm really tuning into and listening to myself for the first time in quite some time (maybe ever). Reevaluating what is important and not as important to me at this moment in time. What I've partly come to realize is that we drop hints to ourselves over time and we may not even realize it in the moment. This happened a few months ago to me. I am realizing it now. One thing that makes me awesome is that I like to think I'm honoring my journey and no one else's.

These ppl are worst to ppl they deem under them. Your status was less when you worked under them. Now you're not their subordinate so you have more value

I know my UAQ. I am awesome with the design software my industry uses. I have been using this software for years and I have spent time at previous employment, taking deep dives into some of its lesser understood elements.
I have also been in a fortunate position to interact with other companies, and have spent a bit of my own time studying how these companies approach to the software. If I spot something of interest, it normally sends me down a research path to see if its something I could see if it could be a benefit to introducing to the company I'm working for.
All that being said, I feel I have a very good grasp of the software and I have demonstrated this awareness at interviews. And it has often been the thing that makes me stand out from the rest.
Q: I would like some advice on how to include some form of insurance policy into the mix. I don't want to find myself being used by the company, doing a load of system improvements, only to be moving on to another job, once they've been integrate and everyone else feels comfortable with them!

I’m not sure about this one. Every time I stand out, it is like putting a target on my back. When I was more quiet, I moved up quicker.

I’m training the person who got the job I applied for, also this person is the best friend of my coworker. Even though I feel sad for not getting the promotion at job and I’m training a person without experience in the field, I feel that I’m doing a good thing by sharing my knowledge. Any suggestions of things that I shouldn’t do or say? Perhaps this person will become better than me at some point …

You need to leave that job.

    • @jmum189
      @jmum189 ปีที่แล้ว

People who perform too well in their jobs or who work themselves into a crucial position they cannot be moved from, do not get promoted.
A good trick is to ask to see your manager, explain you aren`t happy with your career progression, that you think loosing the promotion to someone with no experience is quite frankly ridiculous, and that you`ve decided you need to look for a new job.
Ask for the following morning off to attend a job interview. They will refuse you, you wont get the promotion, but if you are valuable to them you`ll get a pay rise.
So you got the pay rise because you are valuable to them. You now need to assess if you can take the risk with your job. If you can, go for an unapproved holiday. Treat yourself to 2 weeks off before rolling back in the following Monday. (In my country unapproved absence is not gross misconduct, check it in your country first).
They will be mad, they will be angry, and you`ll get a warning. Smirk and smile at them. They now know they have someone who is going to throw a tantrum over it all. Then spend the next few months training the one who good promoted poorly and wrongly.
