I don't think the British public and media didn't give him as much respect as was deserved but Manchester United players and even Pirlo gave Ji-Sung Park a lot of respect. Manchester United even made him a brand ambassador or something like that. It may be tokenism but I know Alex Ferguson highly respected and rated Ji-Sung Park enough to make Man United give Park an important club role. As much as Park deserved more respect than what he got in England, he was a reason why Son's (and his generation's) dream was to play in Europe and eventually in the Premier League.

As an American sports fan who recently got into soccer, mainly through gambling at first, Son was one of the first players who really popped off the screen for me. It also had little to do with appearance. The ease of which he seems to understand the flow of the game and how often the rest of the players seem to be in slow motion really reminds you of some of the great American athletes like Lebron, Randy Moss, Barry Sanders, Laettner in college to name a few. Also can't help but marvel at his reactions when teammates score goals. It is a selfless joy that few if any premier athletes can hope to achieve.
Continue the great work, the pace of your videos is tremendous and has helped my development as a fan.

Facts, as an Englishman I don't know how we're still snubbing him. He is by far the best player in the league this season.
    PFA is a joke,
Foden was quality for 4 weeks,
KDB injured for like 3 months,
Salah while by far quality - and second best. He scores penalties.
Bernardo deserves more credit as he was pivotal in City's quality this year.
But the more standout is Son, remember at the start of the season when Kane couldn't score or assist for weeks. Ye Son dragged them out that period. Remember, when Tottenham went on a run of games where it was draws and losses and Conte almost left. Oh yeah son went and bagged a brace next week arguably keeping Conte at Spurs.
I hate the English media. We hype up players for failure and overvalue so many and are disappointed when they aren't as good. But that's a topic for another time.

    • @geribenkougeki
      @geribenkougeki 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I wouldn't say overvalued. You want to talk overvalued go to Spain. They put 1bn release clauses so they can charge ridiculous amounts of money for whoever is being sold and if a club wants them they have to agree or wait for the contract to expire.
Son certainly is snubbed because he's isn't English. He's snubbed because he plays for spurs, a team that haven't won a real trophy for a good amount of time. Send him Liverpool as mane replacement and he and salah will be see like having Pele and Maradona on each wing.

It is worth mentioning that when Eintracht Frankfurt won their previous European title, the 1980 UEFA Cup, they also had a South Asian pioneering star in their squad: Cha Bum-Kun of South Korea, to this day still the all-time top goalscorer of the South Korea national team. Like Son, he won the Asian Games with South Korea in 1978 and led the team to the 1986 World Cup. He also played a pivotal part in winning another European trophy - he won the 1988 UEFA Cup with Bayer Leverkusen, scoring a late equaliser in the final against Espanyol, sending the game to overtime. Leverkusen won in a penalty shootout.

I'm a VfB Stuttgart fan and I am glad that our sporting director Mislintat scouts the Asian leagues, especially the J-League, and doesn't hold on to stereotypical believes about Asians abilities to play football. Because of that we now have two very capable Japenese players in Endo and Ito who saved our asses from relegation this season in extra time against Cologne with a goal (Endo) and the assist (Ito). Ito is still young and can obviously still improve alot but he looks promising and Endo has just been amazing the last two seasons. He is by now our captain and deserves it and has a workrate which is unbelievable, he will commit to every challenge and gets the job done. My favourite player in our squad right now. Second one is Mavropanos just to spite you, as an Arsenal fan :P

If you're interested in Asian footballers in Euro leagues, check out STVV, mid-table club in the Belgian league. They're owned by a Japanese conglomerate and many players you mentioned in the video played there. Kamada, Tomiyasu and Endo are the most known probably. They had 7 Japanese players in the squad last season, including Kagawa!
"Vietnamese Messi" Cong Phuong Nguyen even played there, but he flopped pretty badly.

The small local football club I support has three Asians two Japanese and I forgot the other. Let me tell you, they are the hardest working people on the pitch on gameday. The main one's name is Kento Takamura and the small supporters group that's beginning to form has already designed him as someone who needs a song/chant. If they and Son are similar to what most Asian footballers are like, they ARE going to take over.

My favourite player is Ao Tanaka, he's an incredible talent. Quick, agile and able to flick the switch from one second to another. He currently plays for Fortuna Düsseldorf, a German city known for its strong ties to Japan which are reflected in the team. Though only 2 players there have ties to Japan (the other one being Shinta Appelkamp) they are celebrated like stars at every opportunity. I wish more European clubs had this mentality toward Asian players
