    The problem Son himself is suffering at Spurs is he was taken away his position unreasonably. He is used to be a pitch-line runner, a wide winger, who takes the crosses and long passes from Kane or Eriksen at the middle line then invert in and finish. This is now the role of LWBs, or more specifically the GREEAATT Perisic in the 3-4-3 formation. For the whole season so far Son has to start as the left attacking midfielder, a number 10 player, usually appears in the centre axis and do one-touch passes, back-barriers, receive-control progressive passes and dribbles under mid-block pressings. A winger for his whole career now has to play like a deeplying playmaker as Spurs usually lack midfielders who could dribble and pass as a multi zone connector. Like having to learn to play football all over again in the age of 30, usually get his foot stepped by Perisic, one of the Spurs players who could lead them to victory has been eliminated, by his own coach.
    Disclaimer, Perisic is not bad. It’s just his appearance is letting some other teammates down as their playstyles cannot be a good chemistry. This situation is like Ronaldo in United squad just months ago. He’s still great, just this is just not the right squad for him.
    Just Son’s case, I can tell how failed Antonio is doing at Spurs, in term of transfer and line-up decisions. The players are responsible for the losses. Yes. How about him? Has he ever said sorry for his bad management and whatnot?

    I always think Spurs are always like a step or 2 away from absolutely collapsing, like either a fire sale of the best players, or not getting the right manager multiple times in a row. And if those events happen, Spurs will fall out of the top 6 argument, even sleepwalking into potential yoyo status. After all, they are quite near there in the 2000s.

    Conte had a good start, because of bentancur and kulusevski but he fumble it badly.
    First mistake was not getting CBs. I think lenglet, Davies and romero are the only ones worth something, and only romero is class.
    Second mistake was whatever happened with buying wingback. Porro seems good, and provides competition for emerson, but why buy him in the winter window? Should've bought him sooner, and buying perisic was a mistake, they need someone better. And treatment of djed Spencer, destiny udogie is just a waste of resources.
    Second is CM. Bentancur and Hojbjerg are good, but bissouma wasn't necessary to buy because skipp and pape are DM as well. We needed to buy someone like Maddison, Ward Prowse, Wijnaldum, but we didn't. But shipping out lo celso and ndombele was a good choice probably.
    Next the forwards. Richarlison is a waste, doesn't play well with kane and son. Trio of Son, Kane, Kulu, was the best thing about spurs under conte, and he fucked it up by buying Richarlison, Perisic. Danjuma fits the squad way better, and shipping bergwijn and gil away, to have Richarlison and Perisic is a joke and a downgrade.
    We needed 2CBs, 2 wingbacks, 1 offensive Cm, and a backup striker for kane, not whatever he's taken.
    While there are issues with the players, he has more responsibility about losing to Sheffield ffs and milan than do the players or owners. He just refused to adapt, and to let players develop, made mostly bad signings which ruined cohesion and weakened the team.
    Anyone who watches spurs knew how bad our defence was and it was a matter of time until lloris has bad luck and it all goes to shit. Starting dier is criminal he is a DM not a cb.

    Incredibly well researched and thorough. Some of what Conte said is true but I greatly appreciate you pointing out his rigid tactics and inflexibilities. Conte has refused to give Arnaut Danjuma much of any play time off the bench and even gives that playing time to Lucas Moura. Conte took off Kulusevski for Davinson Sanchez in the Champions League game against Milan and he is burning Højbjerg to the ground not rotating between Sarr and Skipp (now only playing because of Bentancur’s injury) because fuck logic and rotating. Yes, this squad needs better players and I can’t wait until Eric Dier is gone, but Conte deserves some blame for how this has gone. Time to move on and get a progressive manager for the long haul instead of another retread. Come on Levy and ENIC, finally do something right!

    I have to say, you are underestimating the late-game comeback motto quite a bit. Here in the Netherlands, Feyenoord-Rotterdam, rival of Ajax & probably current winner of the "Eredivisie". Are kind of utilizing their own stamina in that way very effectively, mostly in just wearing out heavily defensive opponents while looking for an opening. They've done this quite consistently and have been able to come back with massive gains despite the risk. It's really not a method to underestimate if you truly have a way stronger opponent & know what you're doing.

    The classic Antonio Conte cycle at work here: Arrives like a storm, changes everything with his personality and playing system and has a a long winning streak that also includes winning a domestic title sometimes, all of this usually on the first season. Following season demands players that fit his taste and keeps playing the exact same system with no changes at all, opposing teams learn to play against his system and subsequently Conte's teams start having losing streaks and becoming overall average compared to the first season. Subsequently Conte refuses to change almost anything in his game system, the players start getting frustrated, Conte gets pissed off and starts ranting in the media against club and players in an attempt to get them motivated with limited success. After that Conte is usually in a bad relationship with his the club overall and he either leaves or gets sacked. Cycle restarts somewhere else.
    I consider the guy to be a great manager when things go his way, but stuff deteriorates fast when it doesn't and in a club like Tottenham this is even more poignant given that Spurs is usually not the contender for anything, this really pisses Conte off with how intense the guy gets about winning. He is right though when he says the players are not showing the right mentality, if you want to to win you need play to win, however he is also at fault for refusing to adapt his system to the type of players he has and stop using them in roles they are not used to.

    Tuchel was rumoured to take over but Bayern was faster to snatch him up

  • @JanelleTheKid

    It's such an interesting conversation to have. The players are underperforming, but at the same time Conte isn't doing anything to change the strategy. For example, Son and Perisic DO NOT work well together. Whenever they're supposed to be working together, it always ends poorly. The few times Son has actually scored have been times where Perisic isn't there. But at the same time, I agree the mindset at Spurs is horrible. Like yes winning first isn't necessarily everything, but at some point you can't be content with missing out every single year.

      Success is relative. Spurs have made top 4 pretty consistently so missing that would make this a bad season, especially after decent investment. Meanwhile a club like Fulham went into the season aiming to avoid relegation, and will be happy to do so.
      Also Spurs look utterly miserable to watch, which the fans don't exactly enjoy

    I really like the noglesman signing for them. I know I spelled his name wrong but he is more of a long-term manager and he was at Bayern which is a short-term manager club really. And now tuechel there makes more sense and noglesman at Spurs makes more sense

    • @Kemloth

      Bayern fan here. I think it would've been great to be patient and let Nagelsmann work longer in München. At least until the end of this season, to have some data on how he preforms at the 3rd half of seasons. I really can't see any professional, sport-related reason to fire him in the most important stage of the season, there must be something behind the scenes here. Anyway, it was rather surprising and outrageous.
      (May be, just maybe...the Bayern board didn't have faith in him for the remaining maximum 18 games of the season and the only viable replacement option, Tuchel, was flirting with othet clubs so they went one step ahead. This way it's understandable...but fucked up nonetheless.)

    • @jordanford9320
      @jordanford9320 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Kemloth I agree. I think they should have stuck with him but Bayern Munich is in the same vein as real Madrid and Chelsea and some other clubs like Juventus where unfortunately success is demanded and even the slightest inclination of failure means you're gone I think. Juventus is the exception right now because they can't afford to move on but they would if they could. So that's why I keep them in this list

    • @Kemloth
      @Kemloth ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jordanford9320 Sure, I agree, coaching the mentioned teams is a hard and risky task for any coach.
      My problem is that I didn't really see that decisive sign of weakness or failure from Nagelsmann. Sure, there were some worse periods...but which team and/or coach doesn't have then? Regarding Bayern's last decade or so Flick had some, Heynckess had some, Guardiola had some (and he always drowned In CL semis), not to even mention Kovac, Ancelotti, van Gaal.
      In the case of Nagelsmann, at this pont of this season the single somewhat problematic cometition is the Bundesliga. There, without eg. that 8th minute red card for Upamecano against 'Gladbach (which was pretty harsh imo), Bayern would most probably be 2pts ahead BVB despite any fluctuations in form.
      True, last year's CL and DFB Pokal failures were weak, but as we used to say in the lab: "one measurement is no measurement". And we're back to you're point...probably you get 1.5 measurement max at some maximalist clubs.
