This orchestra is really good... esp the way they control the dynamics, and articulation simply perfect! one of my fav orchestras, among Berlin Philharmony and London Philharmony.

Both in this and the Scottish Fantasy, soloist and orchestra complement each other beautifully. Fantastic performances. Jackiw's sheer technical mastery, phrasing, and tonal coloring are amazing. What a bow arm!

Wow they performed together again!! I've been loving the Scottish Fantasy on the youtube, Stefan and Sinfonica de Galicia played together few years ago.
This has topped that! So exquisite, touching and beautiful for whole 35 minutes. You guys are really fantastic match as an orchestra and a lead player! Such a perfect piece deserved to be cherished🤘

Great violinist. He is currently (2018) doing a residency at University of Maryland College Park in USA. Last week he played the four Ives violin sonatas with Jeremy Denk there. Spectacular!

Soloist and orchestra make an ensemble here and the dynamics get the attention the work deserves. This is possibly the best I have heard as pure music.

Superb performance by Mr. Jackiw, who is sadly underrated but an exceptional talent and artist. Best wishes for a lifelong successful career. This orchestra is also world class and underrated. It's difficult to guess audience attendance numbers from the orchestra's YT videos but they show many empty seats. The high level of their performances should be standing room only, sold out concerts. The videos are excellent and appreciated by music lovers but live music is best. Buy tickets and attend their concerts!

I have two bows, the first branding "made in 🏵Japan" with pearl and Nickle/Silver and another one From Germany "rmny" branded under back of the frog and with " Robert Soetens ☆☆ " branded above the frog made of Brazilian Pernambuco and silver and pearl.. got both with a 1713 Violin and case There is some minor damage and the bows need rehaired and I hope to play as well one day with some of these lucky Treasure Fond here in the midwest.

jackiw used the same fingering for the first two entrances on the g string, which i think should be avoided. there was something off about the whole opening. it lacked the feeling of long line. it got better at the quicker part leading into the 2nd theme, a 2nd theme that should have felt like one in sonata form, but didn't. the first movement didn't convince me in general. not a lot of elasticity in the solo part, and a lot of sudden tempo changes which interferred with the tight structure of the movement, and a lack of natural flow. who could tell where one was? i heard a lot of beats one and three, and not of beats one, two, three, four. the irony of the ending was lost. in the 2nd movement, should the clarinets be louder than the soloist at the beginning? i don't think so. dovetailing is one thing, disappearing another. i didn't care for the way the soloist used so much bow on short note values, making for internal jerkiness in phrasing. i don't know, just didn't do it for me. the third movement 'devil's waltz' lacked urgency from the very start. then why such noise on the g string when it's only marked mf? there were a lot of 'poco piu moso' minues the 'poco'. at the very end there was a very precipitous accelendando which barely made it. but the soloist and orchestra ended together. i think a more gradual accelerando would have been more appropriate. i found the last movement rather slow.

A tad over analysed perhaps? Listening without the score sometimes helps to see the wood for the trees, more appreciation for what was achieved, less criticism of what was not? So many layers of complexities to reconcile... Isn't each performance a unique offering to the audience? Take it or leave it. Perfection is not the goal, God forbid.

@@WiseOwl_so_1d_like_to_think Absolutely. Technical perfection does not in itself lead to enjoyment of music. As a non violinist I would not be aware of some imperfections in the soloist`s playing but if the overall performance gave much pleasure, which it does here, that is what counts.

Very interesting comments. But do you have a general appreciation? You have not mentioned anything positive. Was this so bad? Can you recommend better renditions? Surely you have some in mind.
