Setting up a 3D Printer to Use With My Model Railroad

- While I'm waiting for my finger to heal from the xacto knife incident I bought a 3D printer on a bit of an impulse. So, I worked on assembling it and getting it ready to do some printing for my railroad.

Thanks for posting. Hope the finger heals soon.
Thanks, John. It's already a lot better.
Great video Drew. I noticed near the end of this video the bandage on your finger was gone!! I appreciated this video because it helped me decide that a 3D printer was not in my future, they appear to be much too fiddley. I will order my N scale items from on-line shops. Thank you, a very helpful video.
Yes, the finger is certainly on the mend, although it'll probably be a few more weeks until it is 100%. 3D printers are indeed a bit fiddley which is why I held off on buying one for quite a while.
Nice job Drew. As I ain't the best technology user, I will probably never buy a 3D printer but you seemed very confortable in making it work the way you wanted. Hope you'll enjoy your new investment ! Keep on your good work. Also hoping to see your modeler's skills in action soon.
Thanks, Luc. I’ll get back to it soon.
Great video Drew! Yes 3D printing can be fiddly. But once you get the hang of it, you'll be wondering what took you so long to get one. Getting a printer bed level is the most important thing.
Thanks, Rich. I've got so many project in mind already.
Awesome video and congratulations on the purchase! Be sure to slow your print speed down if you start running into failed prints...
Thanks for the tip!
Just exited the buffalo river on the white river. At Riley’s! I saw all the UP, BNSF, and Aux rolling stock and terminals while driving in and out of that part of Arkansas. You chose a great area to model
Very cool! Spent a week canoeing in Canada with kids this summer. Need to get a trip planned for Buffalo next year.
Great start! I've had a Flashforge Adventurer 3 Lite for about a year and a half. Since I model in Z, I don't mind if there aren't ultra-fine details on my 3D-printed cars & structures. You might be able to get some good prints for HO. Hope you enjoy your journey into 3D printing.
Thanks, Robert. This really opens up some possibilities for my railroad.
Great video Drew
wish i had watched before I got my Ender3
Thanks. These 3D printers are bit more finicky than I anticipated, but I have been pretty happy with my results.
I have the same 3D printer. It has its limitations but it can be useful.
I figured it was a good entry point. I'm not really going to print parts for my models, but more like components for my layout.
@@WhiteRiverLine It'll work great for what you have planned. Here are some covers I made for my Pontiac Trans Am using my Ender 3D printer. th-cam.com/video/o9mVSSR4k1k/w-d-xo.html
@@WhiteRiverLine I've also made some 1/35 scale buildings for diorama's th-cam.com/video/Ssxg2sQwfIA/w-d-xo.html
Fascinating video, I enjoyed the whole thing, even though I do not have a 3D printer! (Dave).
Thanks, Dave. They are a pretty interesting tool.
@@WhiteRiverLine Your very welcome and good to hear.
Welcome to the world of 3D printing!!!! So did the tape work?
Kinda. Didn’t adjust my z offset so I got some elephant foot. I’m going to try hairspray next.
nice video.. I've still surprised by what I can use my Ender 3 for.. similar - thought maybe just to use for connectors and useful bits, but been printed loads of bits for miniature wargames, and as I'm starting a new little HO layout, used Tinkercad to create and my Ender 3 to print, some panels to build a couple of warehouses..(see my recent vid).. have fun! (subbed)
Thanks for watching and the sub. I'll check out your channel too.
First tool you use is a hobby knife😂. Been thinking of getting one of these printers. Just trying to figure out if I would use it enough to justify the purchase.
Yeah, gotta jump back on that horse. 😂 I've been debating on buying a printer for a while and it finally got to the point that I knew I wanted to print some of my own stuff rather than asking other people to do it for me.
the the dimentions being less thatn 20mm is not because of the steps per MM, its because of the shrinking of the material as i cools. upscale your model by 0.32% in x an Y axis, Z axis is more domentional accurate, because it has alot of time to cool
nice video
Thanks for the info
will that looks like a ender 3 and that is a perfect printer to learn with i have the ender3pro and i have never had any problems with it been printing with it for 3 years take your time at leveling it
Yes, Ender 3 v2. I'm finding there is quite a bit of a learning curve for 3D printing.
