- In this video, I test the RWS Subsonic HP at 50 yards with my Tikka T1X. The RWS Subsonic HP bullet weighs 40 grains, is a Lead Hollow Point (LHP), and has a muzzle velocity of 1033 fps. For this test, I am using my A-Tec Wave suppressor. The scope is a Meopta Optika 6 with 5-30x56 magnification, providing a clear and precise view of the target. I rely on a Caldwell shooting rest for stability. The shooting conditions today are excellent with minimal wind, perfect for accurate testing.

The lot of rws sshp I shoot has less fliers. I use it out of a 16 inch cz455 with a suppressor mainly for small game.
Great video!
That's what is so frustrating about .22lr; there can be significant differences between lots. You go to the store happily to buy your favorite ammo, and the next trip to the range, the shots go all over the place...
Just discover your chanel, great content, i can't found rws ammo here in Uruguay since 2015 use to be very good, but i just have 1 box of 22 and 1 box of 22 magnum now, is like a treasure this days
Is it so difficult to find ammunition in Uruguay? Is this due to gun laws or are there other reasons for it? Anyway, I hope this situation gets better.
@@thegunviking maybe is a small market, or import companys are bad, is expensive and hard to find diferent calibers, i usually buy all i can when i found and pacage the ammo with a vacum sealer to storage
Mr. Viking, I would like to see you test this RWS subsonic ammunition in theTikka without the suppressor ( sound modulator) again. What groups you shot were pretty impressive and plenty good for hunting especially at 50 meters . The reason we like to shoot subsonic is for sound suppression ( don’t want to scare the quarry ) and we do not own a sound suppression device to hunt with or some times they are not lawful in certain places. Thank you.
Sure, I can do a second test without suppressor. I don`t think I have any more in stock, so I have to find some first.
@@thegunviking very well.Thank you . I will bee keeping my eyes open for this.👍✌🏻🇺🇸🙏🏽😎
I just purchased some CCI subsonic, similar results but even less accurate. Good video...thanks!
Thank you! I also hage som CCI subsonics, but have not tested them yet.
Yes, the subsonic ammo i tested (RWS and ELEY) where also less accurate and the point of impact was also lower. I use only standard velocity ammo like Norma match or Tac 22. from the same batch. They shoot great from my Anschutz 1416. I have even a smaler moderator (made by Jaki Finland) mounted and it is extreem quiet with standard velocity. It's more quiet than my springer HW air rifle. High velocity .22lr like CCi mini mag or velociter have never been accurate. Accuracy is the most important with hunting. Great video, Cheers!👍
Thank you for your input👍. My experience with the hotter .22s align with yours. They are usually less accurate. I have never heard of Jaki? I own a SAK and an ASE Utra from Finland, both very good suppressors.
@@thegunviking The small (24.5 mm. diameter) and light Jaki .22 moderator seems to be the one of the most effective ones on the market. I'm very impressed and it's also great to use when the scope is on lower magnification. Easy to take apart for cleaning too. The .22 lr is not designed for higher speeds than the standard velocity. Some have even a little bit longer shell to get that tiny more powder volume for more speed that can cause problems with some rifles. The .22 mag with heavier bullet weight is designed for higher speeds. High speed .22lr like the stinger etc. are for me an absolute no go when shooting on living quarry. Cheers!
Greetings from Australia Viking. I tried RWS subsonic hp years ago and wasn't impressed. I then started using Winchester PowerPoint 40 gn hp it was excellent in my Brno model 2E. It's a shame i can't send you a box to try. But the authorities frown on sending ammo by mail.
Hi! As you mentioned, it's not a good idea to send ammo through the mail. It would cause trouble for both you and me. I can find some Winchester ammo in Norway, and sometimes they are produced in Australia. And by the way, I'm thinking on buying a model 2 my self. Thanks for watching my videos!
@thegunviking
Your reviews are very informative and unique. I look forward to every new posting.
It's like RWS availability in Canada - Factory fires it in Germany and we may hear 1% of them in our supply one year later!
Availability is a major issue with a lot of ammunition, unfortunately. We find them in stores here in Norway, although half of the selection (or more) is always unavailable.
RWS subs and Norma tac .22 where the same round at one point Norma where buying them and putting them in there own boxes both incredibly accurate in my CZ 455
I did know that RWS make the Norma rimfire, but not that the Tac-22 was the sub. As far as I remember the Tac is LRN, but it might have been the LRN sub that is now discontinued🤔
Eley subsonic hp funkar sjukt bra i min t1x, fått in träff ganska konsekvent på 300m 20cmx20cm plåt.
Tjäna! Eley subs är en favorit för många jägare. Jag gillar den också, og kommer ta ett test på den om inte länge.
Going by the name, I would have expected a little more!❤❤❤
I would also have liked a little tighter groups. The worst was the fliers.
The Eley High Velocity Hollow Points shoot great out of my T1X and reasonably priced. Give a box of them a try👍
Hi! I have a box or two of them in the ammo closet. I'm looking forward to testing them.
I’ve seen your countries Hausken lyddemper when I visited and was very impressed, so I’m guessing yours is just as good. I use 42gn subsonic ammo by Winchester with a big hollow point . It will put some through the same hole and then throw some before coming back 😖. Enough to make a rabbit very sick. Unfortunately our country has no regards to hearing protection of the shooter or neighbours, and the only people that use them are professionals or criminals, all based on Hollywood reference guides, of course.
It's so frustrating when four bullets are tightly grouped, and then the fifth one goes somewhere else on the target. I have had a similar experience with Winchester as you have. When it comes to suppressors, the authorities, as you correctly say, have no regard for the benefits they provide. I also own one Hausken, and they are well made suppressors.
Which barrel length do you have? I love that Sako green. Great vid!
Hi! Thank you! It`s a 20 inch. And yes, the colour looks great😊
Thanks I ordered one. If you ever need help finding something here let me know.
Thank you! I might take you up on that👍🏻
Have the same size groups in all my rifles from that ammo. You want to know 🥵 in the summer, come to Texas.
I would probably die from the heat in Texas. Living in Norway any day without snow is a warm summers day😀
1080 to 1100 fps shoots the best in my rimfires.
I agree. That is a sweet spot for accuracy.
I always wanted to try RWS ammo. It's mostly CCi here. Are those made in Europe? Great test Viking Fella.
Hi! Yes, they are made in Germany. It`s the company that make the Norma rimfire also. Where do you live?
@thegunviking USA 🇺🇸, Merica. To this date haven't seen RWS ammo, only pellets in .177 cal.
@@user-my5gj4me6q Strange that RWS are hard to get in the states🤔
@@user-my5gj4me6q Strange RWS is impossible to find in the states🤔
@@thegunviking I've finally found Tac22s. Didn't know RWS are the same as Norma.
I get frequent fliers when shooting with subsonic rounds.
I also prefer standard velocity and higher.
Have you tried the Norma Biathlon Match ammo?
I got 2 boxes for free when I bought ammo last time, but I want to save them for some reason.
Yes, I have tested them. I think I even have a video of the test. I still have some left, and I might test them again another day. They are produced by RWS, after all.
How many rounds do you do between cleanings?
Cool video again 😎 👌 I have never been able to find any RWS so I have no idea how it does for me 😢
Thanks for sharing!! 👍
It depends on what ammo I shoot. Dirty ammo, often high speed, require more frequent cleaning. After testing the Remington Yellow jacket i had to clean the barrel after one box. When it comes to standard velocity I often shoot several hundred rounds. And often its probably not needed. I hope you can find some RWS, it`s good (and expensive…) ammo.
@thegunviking yeah that yellow jacket is nasty in the barrel. I hope to find some soon also!
My supressed P94S like these bullets and they chrono at 990fps. I tend to rub the excess lube off.
I think bullet lube must be cheap in Germany😉
My chronograph doesn't talk to me. If it did, I would want one with a European accent like yours.
Thank you for making me laugh😆
The flyers could be consecuence of a fouled barrell? Greetings from Lima, Peru!
Hi! It could be, but the barrel was not badly fouled. It was deep cleaned before this shooting session. It seems like the fliers, at least one of them, had higher velocity. I`m happy to hear that I have viewers from Peru!
Hi Again, I don’t know if you can get Armscor 40gn hollow point subsonic in Norway. These are surprisingly accurate for a cheap cartridge. I think they are the old Stirling just rebranded. It gives Eley Match a run for its money in my new CZ457 MDT. That’s $8 AUD versus $30 for a packet 😮
Wow! Sounds like something I would love test. But I have never seen Armscor rimfires in Norway. They are Phillipino, right?
@@thegunviking Yes that is correct. They are made in the Philippines. The cases even have a”T” stamped on them just as Stirling did back in the 80’s.
@@1mccactus I will check if they are available in Sweden. I`m going on an «ammo run» later this year and buy some ammo not available in Norway.
Every time I have five good shots, I just dread pulling the trigger on the fifth one.
What stock is that T1X in? Why did you change it out? JimE
I totally agree! Four rounds nicely tuck together and one in the pipe😆. Almost always it`s the worst shot. The stock is a GSR Bifrost. I changed it from the original because it fits me better.
@@thegunviking Thank you. Happy shootin"! JimE
@@JimE6243 The GRS Bifrost stock is awsome. Great grip and grip angle. It will fit most people with all it's adjustments.
@@DjSubstain Thank you for the response. I will investigate. JimE
Do you know by chance anyone in Europe that still has magazines for sale for the Sako Model 78 in 22 LR? Can't find any in the United States.
Hi! Check out riflemags.co.uk. They have them in stock I believe. GV
Try eley subsonic it will shoot better.
Yes, Eley subs are good ammo. I have them in the ammo closet, and they will come with me to the range one day.
Eley subs for me. Shoot well my sako my anschutz bolt actions and my begara semi
