epic clip bro.I grew up in Fiordland. No mention of the bluddy sand flies down at the lake...Those possum skins on the shoulders of your vest are a good idea for extra padding for carrying a heavy pack. You are one of the few other youtubers I watch. Thanks for taking us with you. LIKED.
Mate! I saw someone share a link to this video in an nz hunting group, I don't normally click on people's channels but I'm so glad I did, this video was so cool and I'm so happy I've finally found a good nz hunting/trapping channel, go hard mate, great videos.
You found your happy place quite early in life bro ... I admire and respect your balanced character.. both in and out of the bush.. cheers bro your awesome..
Awesome video mate, you guys do a top job trying to keep on top of those little buggers, all while earning some cash. Great few days in the life of a trapper. I do miss that place though.....
Love your work brother/sister. You have a beautiful office to work and play in. Looks like you guys are doing pretty well. Good stuff guys. Keep it up.
Aa a young girl my dad trapped and had a pack of hounds he would hunt with. We trapped raccoons, possums, fox, and with the hounds bobcats and cougars (mountain lions). I can remember being told to wait here on a stump in the dark, hearing the hounds and the cats hiss, was a little scary for a 10 year old. May be why I am scared of the dark as an adult 😂 From one outdoor lover to another this is a great video, subscribed
Shady/Abby. Kiwi Real good vids thanks for sharing your experience. Learning heaps.1080 sucks. You're right more trapping Less poison. People have just lost the skill to hunt. Our land is valuable. We all need to look after it. Teach the young to hunt. Through our school system. A part of learning. To be a kiwi Regards will Reardon
Great scenery alright, and talk about being at home in your surroundings, you're casual with it, which only comes with living it so often it's just natural. Another wicked vid Shay... keep em coming
My uncle worked at Knobbs flat when they had ministry of works there, ask about him Alan Metcalf a legend around that area. he also found a Moa Skelton up up creek bed near there when he was Deer stalking.
Cheers mate, yea generally beech holds a few less than the podocarp, bit different around tussock country though with all that summer time grazing for the possums
Hi Shay, are you able to do a vid on skinning, noticed your technique in 'bushmens tucker' was pretty on to it, but would like to see proper skinning for tanning etc. Also how do you know where the hell you've put traps when your lines are so long and varied? Awesome vids so far tho, keep it up. ps - why don't you eat the nice young deer livers?
Hey bro good videos and educational I just have 1 question because I'm setting myself up to start trapping around Hawkes bay area. How long can you hold fur before taking it in to the fur buyer? Cheers
Hey man awesome content ! Just found your channel a couple of days ago. Interested to know your preference of footwear , socks, keeping your feet dry. Seems you wear shoes over boots ?
Hey bro just a quick question. I'm looking to get into possum hunting. When you skin possums that are intended for sale to a tanner/fur man, do you have to do anything to the skin or do you just roll it up? Like do you have to salt/treat the fat side with anything ? And if you just roll it up is there a way to roll them? Cheers bro!
Hey bro, if your selling them green (not dried) just fold them length ways skin on skin, roll em up and put them in freezer to keep them from going off. Just need to de frost them before you take them in to sell so buyer can grade them.
Hey Shay, have just sold my second few kg of fur bro, running 30 traps to get me going, was just curious since you said you trap full time, whats the rules with tax and gst and what not, we get a cash check from the fur trader up here, was just trying to figure out whats the rules with such here in nz is there a or certain amount of money you can make before you have to worry about tax etc? not really my forte was curious too know if you had any insight on such, i couldn't find anything online that made any sense. cheers bro :)
Cheers mate, lures roughly 7 parts flour 2 parts icing sugar and one part brown sugar, with a Scented oil added for smell like eucalyptus, aniseed, clove, etc
Keeping It Wild I didn’t think so, but I thought u said u were concerned that cougars might have destroyed your camp? I was confused. What were u saying?
hello noticed that on your instagram had a pic of lake horoko presume its that same lake in this video? anyway we are going down there soon know of a good place realatively near the road (don't mind walking but don't want to walk a lot)
Im here again sir present 👋 God bless always hunt safe im still hoping to your gun sir as a gift for me 😁 im her in philippines and i love hunting to and adventure that's why im admire you very much i hope you will read my comment sir
good on ya I know its not easy carrying that many traps up a mountain. You should be getting paid out of the 100 million dollar government pest control budget $10 for each set of ears on top of your fur.
