Second having written my own stories of medical 'intervention' of the most painful kind your very graphic descriptions of these implants are very good. I can't say I would gladly take them myself but the idea of having my body heal itself and be far stronger than it is now would be something I would gladly endure. Anyway. Again a very well written chapter. I look forward to learning what quirk of an eye color he gets. I am also looking forward how the mission of Clara, her crew, and the Neronavio turn out. Ok it wasn’t just me with the second heart and third lung. The gene therapy is something I was not expecting but didn’t Wyatt kinda make it known he didn’t want to get the cybernetic eye. Bet he ends up with his mothers eye color in the end. Forgot the most important, great story, well written and presented.
@@thomasohanlon1060 I pretty sure he got the extra upgraded eyes. He didn’t get his eyes ripped out and replaced. He got his eyes augmented and probly some better version of the network connection without need to replace the eyes.
Having worked in the Medical field for most of my adult life. As well as undergoing several procedures now that I am in my 60's. I found the author's descriptions a little too graphic and I sympathetically felt some of the pain. That is some great writing Ekhidna!
Speaking as some one with a major hospital phobia that chapter was a big old nope from me!, i was squirming listening to that, brilliantly written Ekhidna, you excelled yourself, well done!.

Great episode! Sounds like Wyatt is being forged into a "weapon" to be used against the Principality's enemies! I wonder if his eye mutation will be "cat like"? LOL!!!
There are a number of genetic mutations of eye colour that are effectively benign, but I doubt it will be red,, red eyes (normally pink) typically occur for one of two reasons, most common and least harmful is due to albinism which results in no pigment in the eye, you therefore see through the Iris to the red lining inside the eyes giving a strange pink looking eye, however this can have side effects such as being effected by various lighting conditions which would be a downside for a pilot, the other way to get red eyes is burst blood vessels which is certainly not harmless. So I doubt very much we will find Wyatt waking up with red eyes or for that matter non round pupils like cats eyes which would be a major genetic mutation..
I want to give a shout out to author and the team for the visuals with the story .I realise it takes just as much effort to create them as it does to write the story and it is alot better than seeing random scenes of meadows , cats playing or driving. thank you for continuing efforts to add flavour to the great narrative of The Black Ship🎉
I said this for the first book, but im loving the story, most of the time I find a story with HFY they story is either badly written or characters start doing impossible and unreasonable actions because "its cool", this series has been, and continues to be an expertly crafted experience with beautiful story telling and amazing characters who are loved and hated in equal measures, while not sacrificing the level of story telling to create villains, who are just villains. (Ie they are human and relatable/understandable), while still keeping them unlikable.
Pucker factor was off the chart! Wow, what a chapter this was! I remember the VA gave me something for pain, hurt far worse than a gunshot wound! Kinda understand how Sir Wyatt felt.
Actually the doctor is probably used to doing this treatment on military types, he's basically saying I'm sorry but this is going to be incredibly painful, but don't feel you have to try and be the strong silent type, because you are not going to be able to be.

Another Chapter laying the foundations for what is to come in the next few Chapters. In the meantime, back to the Rugby League [NRL] game highlights, classic Rock N Roll music and the current SciFi library book while waiting for and highly anticipating the release of Chapter 35.

I have a very strange feeling that our Sir Wyatt is not only going to be training by Lady Cynthia, he will also be trained by the Royal Marines and at some point he will have their emblem on his armor.
@@thomasohanlon1060 He has his own "emblem" it would however be far more impressive if they simply accept him as a fellow warrior who they are happy to work with, for anyone in the know that would tell them all they needed to know about Sir Wyatt, he is unlikely to ever be as deadly in hand to hand combat as a Royal Marine let alone Cynthia Winfield but if he can hold his own and keep up with them he will earn their respect. I dare say there is however a chance he might be able to outshoot them and his piloting skills are significantly better than theirs
@@davidorf3921 and it was his shooting and piloting abilities that would make him an asset to the Royal Marines, as Lady Cynthia said the Marines are not pilots they leave that to others. Now what if Wyatt was the start of the Royal Marines own Air Wing just like the USMC, it starts with one.

This chapter was some of the best world building I have heard in some time. Very cool way to showcase the importance cybernetics and enhancements within the world and all that goes into it. Well executed, brilliant! Now important question: when does Lt Staples get his Black Carapace so he can start to properly purge the xenoes? 😊
Silver allergy? WTH? Wait, lycanthrope? Golden eyes, he is getting golden eyes! I know about sterling silver allergy, but that's not truly silver allergy but to the nickel content in said silver. The metal that people are most prone to be allergic to is nickel, and that one is present in almost all alloys soooo... Pure silver without any impurities would be 100% hypoallergenic. Unless he has lycanthrope genes, hehe.

Are they just from the Aster family bloodline houses or do they draw from every house, if so how do they get these R.M. to fight against possibly their own houses? I would think in a real medical situation like this, they would have him used a bite thingy to keep him from biting the tissue near his mouth or breaking any teeth.

Poor Wyatt is not given proper heads up about the implants and genetics augmentation. That was a bit of an oversight of Cynthia, Juliana and Redford. I do think the supposed high chances of failure of not having proper painkillers of not put asleep for the operation is sus. I think its the medical people finding it a exuse to see nobles being humbled for a bit. I would not be surprised that the doctors involved in cybernetic and genetic implants are full of sadists. That or its poor design in Principality of Astor's cybernetic implants having to require the patient being awake for the operation to be successful. Its not like some types of brain surgery. I am not surprised that Wyatt had some PTSD flashback of the Drazin when they were putting in a extra heart ♥️ in this chest. I do wonder 🤔 all what Genetic Equalizer does? Hopefully next chapter will fully explain that enhancement and the other ones. I do agree that 1 implant/gene therapy was like knitting because it took apart muscles and improving them. I am glad that Wyatt is not getting cybernetic eyes like the Grey ones but genetic enhancement which probably has nano machines in his eyes allowing him to connect him to computers 🖥 mentally. I do like the eyes enhancement is a gift from Juliana Windfield. It will be interesting to see what color Wyatts eyes 👀 will change to 🤔. To me it like they want Wyatt to be as strong and powerful as Cynthia is, since he is Clara's personal knight. I do like we get to see more of the person Captain Milkades and understand him better. I do wonder how royal marine rations compare to others nutrition wise. I am not surprised that Milkades was impressed with Wyatt due to how accurate he was with a gunpowder hand gun, especially since it was the first time Wyatt used one. It seems that to me that Milkades see Wyatt as worthy enough to be a RM. So he is interested in Wyatt to want to personally train Wyatt. I now knowing Clara is her brothers best negotiator and his best enforcer among the Nobility it makes many thing looking back more sense. Like how the Windfields are seen as demons 😈 to some nobles. Then why Clara was give the Noirnavio as her personal ship, since it's perfect for her. Then how lethal and versatile Wyatt is, to have him as a direct subordinate of Clara.
I get the feeling that cynthia will never be satisfied with Wyatt's close combat training, don't forget Wyatt does not enjoy the training, however ..... I think we will get to the point where she considers him to be "acceptable" which to be fair will probably mean he can beat 90% of those he meets. From the previous actions when we saw them take the Noirnavio she went off only accompanied by Wyatt who just shot a handful of defenders whilst she went into full blend mode with her sword, we can assume that she is at least as good as 2 Royal Marines (maybe more) since the Marines split into groups of 2 or 3. It was interesting to see that despite Wyatt's apparent and self professed, low tolerance for pain , his ability to withstand it impressed both Cynthia and Milkades, as did his ability with a pistol, perhaps we will see Wyatt with a pistol on his hip rather than a sword on his back. Wyatt may not like being in pain (who does) but he already demonstrated that he can take a lot without showing it when he Commanded the Noirnavio without revealing that he was mortally wounded, he only survived due to Cynthia using the nanites on him
@davidorf3921 I agree that due to Wyatt not being good at melee range fighting and awesome at range fighting. That Cynthia will settle for decent for Wyatt in close-range fighting. I do think agree that Wyatt, instead of getting a personal sword, that he can take almost anywhere, that he will get a pistol. I am not surprised that Wyatt said he didn't have a high pain threshold. Because he doesn't have a high pain threshold, just an indomitable will to survive and to achieve it no matter what. Even if it's agonizing to do, he will do it but it doesn't mean it doesn't give him hell.
@@Soundwave119 Oh yes he has very strong willpower which is how he overcomes everything, don't forget in his dogfight with the Drazzan he trashed one of his implants due to the high G manoeuvres implants that are designed to allow the human body to take more than a human body can survive, yet when he arrives back at the Noirnavio he has the presence of mind to adjust his uniform and behave as if barely injured when he enters the bridge, only passing out at the point where he was almost dead. That is determination at a different level. I suspect he might still get a sword because it's expected, in todays Royal Navy Dress Uniform for Lt Cmdr and higher includes a sword for Lt and lower commissioned officers they may carry a sword but it's not required. If the Astorian Navy is similar (which it appears to be) the Wyatt will get a sword, Cynthia however will ensure he at least knows how to use it because if he's going to be with Clara he might have to. But for military actions it will not surprise me if we find Wyatt carrying a rifle with a pistol in reserve. But those are probably not acceptable weapons to wear on formal occasions whilst a Naval Officer in Dress Uniform probably can get away with wearing his sword
@@davidorf3921 I suspect in this story the ignited sword cuts through the shield that some nobles use like the prince and lord Draymore used. This would explain the importance to Cynthia places on it.

Other than not telling him stuff he is not cleared to know (which they have been honest about) they appear to have told him most things or at least let him know that they will tell him stuff when they are in a more secure location (such as why they got their nicknames). They appear to totally trust him but there will be stuff that as his superiors they cannot tell him unless they have to in order for the mission to be a success. As with their initial visit to Woodshaft Clara told Wyatt why they were going there but kept the details of the deal she was going to offer secret until she told Uriel, but that she choose to have Wyatt in her banner parade announces tro the world that he is one of her most trusted nobles every officer on the Noir Navio is under her command and a noble but she only chose 4 to represent her, Cynthia Winfield and Captain Milkades don't count as they are essentially automatically going to be present, so she chose Redford a loyal and experienced commander of her vessel and Wyatt, a nobody commoner only just elevated to Noble Status and that status is effectively one up from the lowest rank (actually there might be squires but they don't really count). So putting Wyatt as one of those 4 and placing him in the front row is announcing to the world, that this is a man I trust absolutely to support me no matter what. Also note that Pre winning his duel only one noblewoman made the effort to ahh introduce herself to Wyatt, after the duel several ladies and a few men would have tried baring the looks given to them by Wyatt, Cynthia and Clara. Wyatt is inexperienced as a noble which is why he shoved the "peace gauntlet" away prompting the duel, but Clara is apparently going to guide him further on this . As Wyatt gains experience I dare say that Clara and Cynthia will tell him to allow other nobles to approach him, but now Wyatt is forewarned as to their likely purpose in doing so, he will probably be quite blunt and ask those nobles what they want from Clara
what meant was Clara is better to let him in on the plan even though his rank would not normally allow it. because 1. Wyatt has not had true friends since he was a child and she needs to build on what she has done so far as he trusts her. but trust works both ways, he is still fragile when it comes to his personal side but getting better. 2. Wyatt is just as much of a strategy thinker as Clara see how he picked up on Clara's idea with the traitors, so he can add to the plan and he can do it on the run like the yacht rescue and both battles . 3. even though Wyatt has gained a bit of notoriety for his efforts so far, in terms of the wider plot he is still unknown to the draemores. I think Milkadees hinted at where this may go when he said Wyatt should get infiltration training to which Clara replied all in good time. 4. It would be better if Wyatt knew that all pain and suffering he has been enduring with Cynthia's training and the surgeries are all for a greater purpose and not just vailed reward. that being said the blackship is a great easy to follow story , reminds me of the old Doc E E Smith Lensman writings keep up the great work

I think Wyatt knows that Cynthia is only actually trying to help him with her training, he has seen her in action so he knows she is more than capable of really hurting him if she wants to, his implants speed up his recovery so what we are seeing here is no worse than an intensive gym work out, it hurts at the time but within a day or two you see the progress, so I'm pretty sure he already knows there is a purpose and she is not just hurting him for her enjoyment, the previous chapter seen in the garden shows that he knows she really is his friend. 3. You may be right 2. Yes and no, Wyatt is a good strategic thinker but he does not know the level of detail that Clara does about the various noble houses, as she has already said she needs to basically teach him what it is to be a noble, Im Naval terms, Clara is the Admiral, she sees the big picture and knows what things need to be done, Wyatt is the captain of the vessel, he takes Claras instructions and (with help) works out how best to accomplish the tasks that Clara needs doing. 1. Yes absolutely, for someone who was a garbage hauling commoner Wyatt has been shown an unprecedented amount of trust, he is now what would in medieval terms be termed a Privy Councilor, someone who has access to Clara's personal chambers and to who she listens to and actually takes note of, Galt and the surviving crew of the Noirnavio are just one example of this, Wyatt took it upon himself to countermand Clara's kill them all orders, and despite being injured makes a good enough case that Cynthia and then Clara agree with him ensuring the old crew survive. Clara and Cynthia did the right thing in telling Wyatt that they are not nobles (and royalty) as far as he is concerned they are (if he will allow it) his friends and whilst there is certainly an element of psychology in doing that , I think they are being genuine. As a princess of house Astor Clara could have given Wyatt orders and he would obey more or less without question because that is how he was brought up, I think as his friend she will still give him orders but it is far more likely that she will tell him why she is giving those orders, giving him the chance to provide feedback and discuss what he might think is a better way to achieve her goals

There are a number of genetic mutations of eye colour that are effectively benign, but I doubt it will be red,, red eyes (normally pink) typically occur for one of two reasons, most common and least harmful is due to albinism which results in no pigment in the eye, you therefore see through the Iris to the red lining inside the eyes giving a strange pink looking eye, however this can have side effects such as being effected by various lighting conditions which would be a downside for a pilot, the other way to get red eyes is burst blood vessels which is certainly not harmless. So I doubt very much we will find Wyatt waking up with red eyes or for that matter non round pupils like cats eyes which would be a major genetic mutation..

I said this for the first book, but im loving the story, most of the time I find a story with HFY they story is either badly written or characters start doing impossible and unreasonable actions because "its cool", this series has been, and continues to be an expertly crafted experience with beautiful story telling and amazing characters who are loved and hated in equal measures, while not sacrificing the level of story telling to create villains, who are just villains. (Ie they are human and relatable/understandable), while still keeping them unlikable.
Pucker factor was off the chart! Wow, what a chapter this was! I remember the VA gave me something for pain, hurt far worse than a gunshot wound! Kinda understand how Sir Wyatt felt.

I have a very strange feeling that our Sir Wyatt is not only going to be training by Lady Cynthia, he will also be trained by the Royal Marines and at some point he will have their emblem on his armor.
@@thomasohanlon1060 He has his own "emblem" it would however be far more impressive if they simply accept him as a fellow warrior who they are happy to work with, for anyone in the know that would tell them all they needed to know about Sir Wyatt, he is unlikely to ever be as deadly in hand to hand combat as a Royal Marine let alone Cynthia Winfield but if he can hold his own and keep up with them he will earn their respect. I dare say there is however a chance he might be able to outshoot them and his piloting skills are significantly better than theirs

I know about sterling silver allergy, but that's not truly silver allergy but to the nickel content in said silver. The metal that people are most prone to be allergic to is nickel, and that one is present in almost all alloys soooo... Pure silver without any impurities would be 100% hypoallergenic. Unless he has lycanthrope genes, hehe.

Poor Wyatt is not given proper heads up about the implants and genetics augmentation. That was a bit of an oversight of Cynthia, Juliana and Redford.
I do think the supposed high chances of failure of not having proper painkillers of not put asleep for the operation is sus. I think its the medical people finding it a exuse to see nobles being humbled for a bit. I would not be surprised that the doctors involved in cybernetic and genetic implants are full of sadists. That or its poor design in Principality of Astor's cybernetic implants having to require the patient being awake for the operation to be successful. Its not like some types of brain surgery.
I am not surprised that Wyatt had some PTSD flashback of the Drazin when they were putting in a extra heart ♥️ in this chest. I do wonder 🤔 all what Genetic Equalizer does? Hopefully next chapter will fully explain that enhancement and the other ones. I do agree that 1 implant/gene therapy was like knitting because it took apart muscles and improving them.
I am glad that Wyatt is not getting cybernetic eyes like the Grey ones but genetic enhancement which probably has nano machines in his eyes allowing him to connect him to computers 🖥 mentally. I do like the eyes enhancement is a gift from Juliana Windfield. It will be interesting to see what color Wyatts eyes 👀 will change to 🤔.
To me it like they want Wyatt to be as strong and powerful as Cynthia is, since he is Clara's personal knight.
I do like we get to see more of the person Captain Milkades and understand him better. I do wonder how royal marine rations compare to others nutrition wise. I am not surprised that Milkades was impressed with Wyatt due to how accurate he was with a gunpowder hand gun, especially since it was the first time Wyatt used one.
It seems that to me that Milkades see Wyatt as worthy enough to be a RM. So he is interested in Wyatt to want to personally train Wyatt.
I now knowing Clara is her brothers best negotiator and his best enforcer among the Nobility it makes many thing looking back more sense. Like how the Windfields are seen as demons 😈 to some nobles. Then why Clara was give the Noirnavio as her personal ship, since it's perfect for her. Then how lethal and versatile Wyatt is, to have him as a direct subordinate of Clara.
I get the feeling that cynthia will never be satisfied with Wyatt's close combat training, don't forget Wyatt does not enjoy the training, however ..... I think we will get to the point where she considers him to be "acceptable" which to be fair will probably mean he can beat 90% of those he meets. From the previous actions when we saw them take the Noirnavio she went off only accompanied by Wyatt who just shot a handful of defenders whilst she went into full blend mode with her sword, we can assume that she is at least as good as 2 Royal Marines (maybe more) since the Marines split into groups of 2 or 3.
It was interesting to see that despite Wyatt's apparent and self professed, low tolerance for pain , his ability to withstand it impressed both Cynthia and Milkades, as did his ability with a pistol, perhaps we will see Wyatt with a pistol on his hip rather than a sword on his back. Wyatt may not like being in pain (who does) but he already demonstrated that he can take a lot without showing it when he Commanded the Noirnavio without revealing that he was mortally wounded, he only survived due to Cynthia using the nanites on him
@davidorf3921 I agree that due to Wyatt not being good at melee range fighting and awesome at range fighting. That Cynthia will settle for decent for Wyatt in close-range fighting. I do think agree that Wyatt, instead of getting a personal sword, that he can take almost anywhere, that he will get a pistol.
I am not surprised that Wyatt said he didn't have a high pain threshold. Because he doesn't have a high pain threshold, just an indomitable will to survive and to achieve it no matter what. Even if it's agonizing to do, he will do it but it doesn't mean it doesn't give him hell.
@@Soundwave119 Oh yes he has very strong willpower which is how he overcomes everything, don't forget in his dogfight with the Drazzan he trashed one of his implants due to the high G manoeuvres implants that are designed to allow the human body to take more than a human body can survive, yet when he arrives back at the Noirnavio he has the presence of mind to adjust his uniform and behave as if barely injured when he enters the bridge, only passing out at the point where he was almost dead. That is determination at a different level.
I suspect he might still get a sword because it's expected, in todays Royal Navy Dress Uniform for Lt Cmdr and higher includes a sword for Lt and lower commissioned officers they may carry a sword but it's not required. If the Astorian Navy is similar (which it appears to be) the Wyatt will get a sword, Cynthia however will ensure he at least knows how to use it because if he's going to be with Clara he might have to. But for military actions it will not surprise me if we find Wyatt carrying a rifle with a pistol in reserve. But those are probably not acceptable weapons to wear on formal occasions whilst a Naval Officer in Dress Uniform probably can get away with wearing his sword

I hope clara lets Wyatt in on the plan, as he is being played and manipulated at the moment as this would destroy his fragile belief in his friendship
What makes you say he's being played? They seem to be pretty upfront with him?
Other than not telling him stuff he is not cleared to know (which they have been honest about) they appear to have told him most things or at least let him know that they will tell him stuff when they are in a more secure location (such as why they got their nicknames). They appear to totally trust him but there will be stuff that as his superiors they cannot tell him unless they have to in order for the mission to be a success.
As with their initial visit to Woodshaft Clara told Wyatt why they were going there but kept the details of the deal she was going to offer secret until she told Uriel, but that she choose to have Wyatt in her banner parade announces tro the world that he is one of her most trusted nobles every officer on the Noir Navio is under her command and a noble but she only chose 4 to represent her, Cynthia Winfield and Captain Milkades don't count as they are essentially automatically going to be present, so she chose Redford a loyal and experienced commander of her vessel and Wyatt, a nobody commoner only just elevated to Noble Status and that status is effectively one up from the lowest rank (actually there might be squires but they don't really count). So putting Wyatt as one of those 4 and placing him in the front row is announcing to the world, that this is a man I trust absolutely to support me no matter what.
Also note that Pre winning his duel only one noblewoman made the effort to ahh introduce herself to Wyatt, after the duel several ladies and a few men would have tried baring the looks given to them by Wyatt, Cynthia and Clara. Wyatt is inexperienced as a noble which is why he shoved the "peace gauntlet" away prompting the duel, but Clara is apparently going to guide him further on this . As Wyatt gains experience I dare say that Clara and Cynthia will tell him to allow other nobles to approach him, but now Wyatt is forewarned as to their likely purpose in doing so, he will probably be quite blunt and ask those nobles what they want from Clara
what meant was Clara is better to let him in on the plan even though his rank would not normally allow it. because 1. Wyatt has not had true friends since he was a child and she needs to build on what she has done so far as he trusts her. but trust works both ways, he is still fragile when it comes to his personal side but getting better.
2. Wyatt is just as much of a strategy thinker as Clara see how he picked up on Clara's idea with the traitors, so he can add to the plan and he can do it on the run like the yacht rescue and both battles .
3. even though Wyatt has gained a bit of notoriety for his efforts so far, in terms of the wider plot he is still unknown to the draemores. I think Milkadees hinted at where this may go when he said Wyatt should get infiltration training to which Clara replied all in good time.
4. It would be better if Wyatt knew that all pain and suffering he has been enduring with Cynthia's training and the surgeries are all for a greater purpose and not just vailed reward.
that being said the blackship is a great easy to follow story , reminds me of the old Doc E E Smith Lensman writings keep up the great work

I think Wyatt knows that Cynthia is only actually trying to help him with her training, he has seen her in action so he knows she is more than capable of really hurting him if she wants to, his implants speed up his recovery so what we are seeing here is no worse than an intensive gym work out, it hurts at the time but within a day or two you see the progress, so I'm pretty sure he already knows there is a purpose and she is not just hurting him for her enjoyment, the previous chapter seen in the garden shows that he knows she really is his friend.

Yes and no, Wyatt is a good strategic thinker but he does not know the level of detail that Clara does about the various noble houses, as she has already said she needs to basically teach him what it is to be a noble, Im Naval terms, Clara is the Admiral, she sees the big picture and knows what things need to be done, Wyatt is the captain of the vessel, he takes Claras instructions and (with help) works out how best to accomplish the tasks that Clara needs doing.

Yes absolutely, for someone who was a garbage hauling commoner Wyatt has been shown an unprecedented amount of trust, he is now what would in medieval terms be termed a Privy Councilor, someone who has access to Clara's personal chambers and to who she listens to and actually takes note of, Galt and the surviving crew of the Noirnavio are just one example of this, Wyatt took it upon himself to countermand Clara's kill them all orders, and despite being injured makes a good enough case that Cynthia and then Clara agree with him ensuring the old crew survive. Clara and Cynthia did the right thing in telling Wyatt that they are not nobles (and royalty) as far as he is concerned they are (if he will allow it) his friends and whilst there is certainly an element of psychology in doing that , I think they are being genuine. As a princess of house Astor Clara could have given Wyatt orders and he would obey more or less without question because that is how he was brought up, I think as his friend she will still give him orders but it is far more likely that she will tell him why she is giving those orders, giving him the chance to provide feedback and discuss what he might think is a better way to achieve her goals
