Can't believe I am 35 episodes into this thing..... and still looking forward to 36+.
Remember we are only 36 in and are just barely scratching the surface of this wonderful universe that the author is creating for us all. What webs will be woven to distract us from something far more important yet fall unnoticed. This is the kind of story that can have stories with in stories, Wyatt’s personal growth, the possibilities surrounding Wyatt’s future and his family’s. We don’t even know maybe Wyatt’s family maybe tied later to Lady Cynthia? Of course this is all just speculation on my part but it is good for thought, or the ramblings of an old man that think’s just a little bit too much.
Ether way it is a spectacular story.

Thank you for this Sunday treat, Wyatt has been elevated into the prince’s inner circle, he has been granted participation in the Grand game of state , he has been put in a place to formulate policy and History. Where will this lead him 🧐
Not quite, he's in a place to guide policy rather than formulate it, to perhaps moderate Clara's more savage urges, still a huge position of power and influence though.
As to where it will lead, Loyalty might be it's own reward but as was suggested by the Prince during the chess game, whilst Wyatt is not seeking such rewards I suspect he will gain both wealth and power simply because the Prince needs people he can trust and those people need power and that means they also need wealth.
Wyatt however is likely to be a very different type of noble LOL
This is by far becoming one of my favorite series. Good writing and excellent character development. An amazing job. Looking forward to the next chapter.
I don't read much and I have to admit this is one of the best audiobooks I've listened to in a long time.
Looks like Wyatt is in his own way returning to war. I liked the Prince reminding Wyatt of his oath not to harm the innocent and also to protect Clara even from herself. that he did so in Cynthia's presence tells me that in this matter at least Cynthia will listen to what Wyatt has to say. Which is probably without precedent and also shows how much the Prince already trusts Wyatt

@@ArthurBuchanan-vf7kx While I think you've hit the nail on the head with Wyatt, you might be slightly off the mark in regard to Cynthia. The prince understands his imperative to marry for political advantage, which would suggest someone from another wealthy house in high standing such as House Firentis and not Cynthia. Ordinarily that would be true for his sister as well, but given her "dark reputation" and how established nobles avoid Clara like the plague, making that happen would be more likely to backfire than succeed. Fortunately for Clara, this would leave her free to marry any noble of her choosing, including her newly ennobled favorite pilot. (Thank you, brother dearest!)
@@gaykosmos8456 I am inclined to agree about Wyatt and Clara, But house Winfield does appear to be a powerful house. The other possibility is Wyatt ending up with Cynthia, which was my initial thought, but the more we learn about Clara the more I think that she and Wyatt will be a good match.
Also by his comments here we can see that Wyatt will go to any lengths to protect both ladies, not because they are Royalty or Nobility but because they are his friends, if that means disobeying or even over ruling Clara's orders then so be it. Everyone else obeys their orders because they are the ruling family. Wyatt Staples only obeys their orders if it's the right thing to do. To allow anyone to do this is unusual, to allow a person who was only recently a commoner and nw has regular access to the Royal Family to do this is not only exceptional but also shows tremendous trust and even respect.
Oh and the Prince is right about Wyatt not seeking any reward for doing this but you just know he's going to get such rewards anyway. Because if noble families such as house Draymor can punish lesser houses by eliminating them entirely then it also makes sense that they can replace those houses with new ones. Who better to replace a disloyal house than someone whose loyalty is without question and who just happens to be a friend as well
@@davidorf3921 There's no question that House Winfield is a very wealthy and powerful house, but their loyalty is also beyond question. Most often, political marriages secure loyalty where before it was questionable or non-existent. This would suggest House Firentis (an army marches on it's belly) or another house not yet mentioned. House Winfield has already pledged loyalty and resources to the Principality and by extension, House Astor. A marriage between the prince and Cynthia would gain the prince nothing that hadn't already been secured. Besides, the author seems to be setting up something between Gabriel Camrim and the prince. Whether it's romantic or just that they were the best of childhood friends is too early to speculate about, but there's definitely something there.
@@gaykosmos8456 possibly, though I'm still betting on Wyatt and Clara, perhaps proving to the commoners that anything is possible if you try hard enough (without telling them that every other noble is too scared to marry Clara)

I have never been a fan of stories but this one... this one has me hooked hard.
It's because it is well written and crafted, like a good book or series of books it's incredibly hard to put down.

The grovelling is hilarious, it makes me wonder what goes on behind close doors with the royalty across the world.
Well Wyatt eluded to the rumors of what happens when a commoner is summoned to a private meeting with a noble, then there is I think the Fleet Admiral that the prince wanted to kill as his first command, because of the things he’s done.

When dealing with powerful people there tend to be 3 ways to handle them, you can grovel, you can show respect or you can show disdain. The weak tend to grovel (or as Wyatt did pretend to). The polite show respect, those that are powerful or sometimes those who just don't give a damn show disdain. Wyatt is now somewhere between Respect and Disdain, this is actually being encouraged by the Prince, Wyatt is always polite and courteous but he will not do something that breaks his own morality and interestingly the Prince not only accepts that but as we see here is encouraging Wyatt to keep Clara safe by not letting her go against Wyatt's morals. By having Cynthia present when he gives Wyatt those orders he is letting her know that she needs to obey Wyatt on this. I love that idea.
Wyatt is now a very junior noble, with unbeknownst to most a massive amount of power and responsibility, if you upset Clara it will be Wyatt who may decide not just your fate but that of your families

@@thomasohanlon1060 5th fleet guarding from Erebian commonality I thought this would be a good supplier of the Black ships but they are not supposed to be as advanced as the principality, If they did acquire the stealth tech that woul explain why ships came without weapons or much AI. Good Political fit but poor Tech fit maybe just Jade and boughten Ships

Interesting twist, starting with Gabriel Draymore, who having dinner and has Veronica sneak into his room. No surprise that Veronica and Gabriel have irreconcilable differences. It's interesting that despite that they deep down care about each other.
Whoot, another chess match between Prince and Wyatt 😊! I am not surprised that Prince would not allow Wyatt to leave Matcha before another chess game. I do like how Cynthia is a spectator for their match. I do like how Wyatt makes Prince work hard for his victory.
It's hilarious how Cynthia roasts both Wyatt and Prince at how bad at chess and Prince should give up his aspirations of a chess master 😂. I love how Prince has a deep laugh and compliments that Cynthia still has a sharp tongue! It was funny how Wyatt remembers Cynthia as a close friend of the Prince. I do like how Prince says that while House Astor is patron to him but if anyone has claim of ownership of Wyatt is Clara.
It nice how Prince uses his meeting with Wyatt of both pleasure of facing a person of similar level in chess but also a chance to talk to Wyatt of the up coming missions Clara is going to do and reassuring himself that Wyatt will do everything in his power to protect her. I do like how Wyatt says without hesitation that he would die for Clara for her being a true friend of his but also his princess. It was awesome how Prince follows that with saying that Clara is right, that Wyatt despite what he says is a true knight that has true honor willing to do whatever is right despite the consequences it may bring him.
I do like how Prince asks Wyatt to protect Clara as a brother wishing his sister to be safe and for him to protect his sister even from herself.
Well the Prince had epic way to have the last word and farewell with saying to Wyatt that despite the change in his eye, the gaze they give is the same, to not change them and if he does make sure they are a positive change.
It was no surprise that Wyatt is the pilot of Clara's shuttle. I do like the small scene of Wyatt talking to the air traffic control. It was nice touch with Clara talking about how this shuttle trip compares to the Woodshaft trip.
It's funny how Clara is embarrassed and exasperated with her brother's "over protectiveness. "Nice way to end the chapter with Clara explaining what their near future mission objectives. 😊
It will be interesting to hear what is the reason why nobles not close to House Astor see Clara as a boogeyman 🤔. It's funny how most nobles are too stupid to overcome their fear of her and realize that as long as they are loyal to the Principality and don't overly break the law they are safe from her. In fact many noble houses should be trying to get the amazing person Clara is and tie her to their house by marriage.
You missed a bit, The Prince ordered Wyatt to protect Clara from herself, clearly a reference to her nickname, more importantly and the reason Cynthia was present, he did so in front of Cynthia, by doing so he is giving Wyatt not merely permission to stop Clara doing anything stupid but a direct order with witnesses to stop her from doing anything stupid and he is also saying he trusts Wyatt's judgement in this. That little detail in this world of nobility and commoners is probably one of the biggest things we have heard so far
@@davidorf3921 I would not say "Clara doing something stupid" so much as "Clara doing something extreme", which admittedly usually plays out the same. She does seem prone to "Kill them all, God knows his own" thinking as shown at the end of Chapter 34. About Cynthia being present as witness - totally agree. I also notice Wyatt "forgot" to mention that minor detail to Clara, as well as being reminded of his pledge to avoid taking innocent life.
Speaking of Chapter 34 relative to her mission description now, Clara better hope she either takes out Tamiran and Andrew or just Andrew. If only Tamiran is removed, it will be a massive blessing for House Cayston and Draymore.

At some point they will end up on Valantice and possibly run into the Nobleman Gimor, that got his friends and teachers killed.
Oh yes hopefully by the time Wyatt runs into Sirhan Gimor Wyatt will have gained even more rank and Status, perhaps to the point that when he realises that he is facing the little boy from 14 years earlier that his bowls give out on him

Especially the backgrounds, they’re deliberately made at an angle now so the foregrounds actually have a reason to be off centered (that bugged me a lot previously).

I think once Veronica learns about Wyatt she's going to be playing a really strange version of Fuck, Marry, Kill in considering him.
She would have to get past Cynthia in order to do any of those and her trying to get past Cynthia to get to Wyatt is just likely to make him mad

@@Urbana2012 My take on it is that Veronica would Kill Wyatt because he's an important friend/ally to Clara and the Prince. Marry Wyatt because she shares his disdain for the "Mother, may I" bullshit of the nobility (she'd probably laugh at the way he executed Samuel Cayston back in Part 3 of Chapter 12). And she'd Fuck Wyatt because that 30-1 defeat of the Drazzen? That's hot!
I don't think that will happen, more like she will try to kill him before he can truly rise to his full Is potential.

draymore is just a puppet, remember the secret communication he was Told he was not getting more black ships and that he had to get rid of the prince by Any means. there is more than a coup going on another faction wants to take over the principality and Draymore has been promised to rule it. if it were just a coup why is Veronica kept out of the loop ? I think Wyatt will go undercover and take out the players from within only trouble with this idea is that He is starting to become too well known.

En Passant is an exception to the pawn capture rule. Usually a pawn can only capture a piece that is diagonally by one space in front of them. However, if a pawn is moved from its original position it can move TWO spaces forward instead of one. If a pawn moves to its side after this 2 space move, it does have the option to then capture the pawn in the next move by sliding diagonally behind that pawn's position. En passant - is translated to in passing. So it is a juke move. It is a way to fubar noobs who don't want to capture or missed noticing the opportunity to capture the pawn the previous move. You see, in order for pawns to get side to side, one pawn had to have been moved into a diagonal position with the opposing pawn. The opponent is then FORCED to capture the pawn that was moved into this position. If they don't because moving diagonally might open the line for a straight attack from a rook or queen but instead moves forward to save from getting captured in the next move, they forfeit their pawn and allow the opponent pawn to move behind their position. En passant is used as a way to break a castle march up the side of a board. However, it can also be thwarted if the person with the castle march has no problem switching their pawn with the opponent's pawn because it still acts like a blocker against a rook or queen moving into the protected space that a castle provides. Pretty neat, eh? Oh it can be used the other way around. If the opposing pawns are so close that if your pawn moves one, it will be directly in line to be captured, so instead you move two to avoid the capture by being side by side with the pawn, your opposition can still capture your pawn by sliding behind it. In other words, you can't get pass the duel. Pawns must capture each other no matter what.

#ship Wyatt and Clara after they get a few years older and he earns consistent respect from the royals and the council and establishes his ability to fight with his wit at least as well as his starfighter. Showing he can manage an estate after the war would help justify this. It certainly helps that the men in Clara's roughly approximate peer positions are afraid of her and she is not next in line because she can't rule.
First Clara the Reaper, Cynthia the Bloodrend, and now Veronica the Butcher. 🤔Mmmm BTY, was that Jade's voice in the control tower?

work with Clara and Cynthia, and did the three together do the “dark secret”?! That would be quite the development. Clara the Reaper, Cynthia Blood-rend, and Veronica the Butcher!
And now Wyatt: unshakable, unbreakable, and a true killer according to Uriel Holx, has joined the bloody crew.
Wyatt is a proven killer, he showed that in the way he dispatched Lord Samuel Cayston, he treated him like the traitourus rat that he was & sent him on his way without mercy or honour.
That would be a interesting twist and quite with in reason.
I think Veronica is now the butcher after the last chapter she was in where she apparently destroyed an entire noble house that didn't want to obey her father. Mind you if she only got the nickname Butcher after that Clara must have done so much worse.
Wyatt is in my opinion different, he is a Good Man, in the words of the late great Sir Terry Pratchett, beware the good man for he will kill you with hardly a word. Wyatt in his own words does not enjoy fighting or killing, (except Drazzan) he does so because it needs to be done and that is what makes him so dangerous. He does not follow the rules
If Wyatt thinks you are worth saving he will put his own life on the line to save you, if not you are dead.
Remember "Fear the trash man!".

They build Veronica up - could she be the future bride of Wyatt? Before anyone says anything - first, love makes funny moves, but I think it may be a political move to merge a big house into a small newcomer loyal to the Princess. A political alliance, only (with maybe other things going on between). It would be a humiliation for houe Draymor and would bind them.
And he now plays chess with the prince? Well, I can see how he belongs to the inner circle that spawns the prince - trust, after all, any loyalty, may not be their own reward in the real world, but they are HARD to come by. There is a reason that Kings of old had their inner circle they relied upon - and sometimes those were elevated lower nobles that knew the king as a child. Just having someone you can get drunk with without fearing the fallout is insanely high worth - it gets VERY lonely at the top.

@@ArthurBuchanan-vf7kx The Duke is the Prince's uncle, he took the Draymor name and gave up his right to the throne, I think we get that in Redford's flash back as he's taking a flight to investigate the Black Ship after the attack by the Drazzan

en passant is a special rule that allows a pawn to capture an opposing pawn that has just moved two squares forward and landed next to it. The capturing pawn moves to the square that the opposing pawn passed over, as if the opposing pawn had only moved one square.

Still hate Veronica, and like Gabriel. The false Prince statement needs to be explained. I could see the Duke trying to win over Gabriel by explaining why the Prince is not worth. I wonder if the death of Gabriel’s mother is the cause of the Duke’s betrayal.

@@dantepoggini7752 not sure that is enough show the hatred the fanatical nobels are displaying since the Duke display that same disdain for the Prince. Gabriel would know this as well but is on his cousins side. Was it this event Clara may have done, and because the Prince defended her that is why these frantically nobels are against the Prince. Why didn’t the counsel of nobels see his as the Prince and not him who, it wasn’t the Duke either. What does the Shadow figure the Duke talked to have to do with the Dukes decision to betray his family.
The Black Ship is the best story on line. You have done a great job writing "The Black Ship". That said, this chapter really did not get us very far. Not much substance in this chapter. Almost like it was to be 1 of 2 and get us closer to action. Since its only once a week, maybe make it longer?

Castling - interesting. I knew it as a Rochade. And - though I played chess long time ago - I never had heard f an En Passant.
1 minute ...go go go !
OK. So there are four provisions on castling. Neither the king nor the rook has moved before. There are no pieces between the king and rook. The king is not currently in check. Lastly, none of the spaces between the king and rook are endangered by an opponent's piece. You slide the king adjacent to the rook then you move the rook to the other side of the king this way the king has only one space to move if your pawns in front are still in place. This guards the king from anything but knights that can jump over the pawns. Since the prince had already captured both of Wyatt's knights, the king is now pretty much protected unless Wyatt sacrifices one of his pieces to take out the surrounding pawns and rook guarding the king. This is because the king can move just like the queen but only one space at a time. So the opponent's piece will be taken by the king if they come close enough to check. HOWEVER, this is also a death trap if you can get the queen and bishops together. Take a pawn using the bishop and as long as the queen has direct line to the bishop's captured position, the king can't retaliate as a king can't move into check. King is now stuck in that one square. Wyatt can use the rest of the pieces to play the game with the idea of running the pawns towards the other side so that they can get promoted. However, there is a way to use the castle formation to just walk the whole bunch towards the other end and get all the pawns promoted as well. It is a timing issue once a castle is formed. It will take a certain number of moves for the one who has the castle to win the game unless Wyatt finds a way to goad the prince into breaking formation.

36 chapters in and I still haven't figured out what the Draymor faction thinks makes the prince so unworthy of his title.
Min 4:30 ..."The council of nobles took years to recognize him as Prince, in fact they didn't, now they just as our father was denied the title of lord regent, he was denied the fully ascensión and recogntion as Prince, didn't he?"...
And nowhere in that was a reason given for why. Especially since by that reasoning Duke Draymor is no more worth of it than the prince.
The way I see it, is that, Dreimore sees the Principality at risk of rupture, before a diplomatic position of the prince before the council of nobles, (which he sees as weakness) creating in his opinion a vacuum of power. But that’s just my opinion.
@@DraikSpectre I wonder if it's because the Prince and at least Clara are willing to not just see commoners as worthless unlike so many nobles.

I'm truly loving both this story and your read, and will gladly listen to the rest. But the waiting is awful. Is the story finished someplace or is the writing ongoing? I'd like to purchase the book so I could satisfy my need to find out how things end or continue. Patience is not one of my virtues with stories.

Has someone detected a purpose beyond entertainment to the chess games? Is the Prince testing for something in Wyatt?
Sort of, he has just ordered Wyatt with Cynthia as a witness to protect his sister (which Wyatt would have done anyway ) even from herself, which is the important bit
Effectively he is telling Wyatt, if my sister decides to do something crazy, especially if it might harm innocents, then Wyatt can basically tell her NO.
If no one else thinks that this is not the biggest thing in this chapter then respectfully you are wrong. Nobles can and do get away with mass murder, (I assume this is the reason they call Clara the Reaper) the higher the rank of the noble the more they can get away with.
The Prince has in effect appointed Wyatt as his sisters conscience, given that Wyatt was a commoner just a month or so ago that is an epic level of trust, but then Wyatt without realising what he was doing changed his own knighthood ceremony and the Prince by still knighting him accepted Wyatts terms i.e Wyatt will obey the Prince's orders unless asked to harm the innocent, which was of course why the Prince reminded him of this.
Cynthia is there so that when Clara attempts to order something stupid (which will only hurt herself in the long run) and Wyatt tells her no, Cynthia will be there to tell Clara that Wyatt actually has the authority to do so. Thus an epic level of both trust and responsibility.
Wyatt is the only person other than the Prince who can ORDER Clara NOT to do something.
By the way this is another reason why I think Clara will end up marrying Wyatt
How did the Prince eliminate (checkmate) the enemy king. He used his knight....
Also Wyatt said he needed to learn more about the game.

I think given Wyatts timidness that it will be one of the ladies who decides to choose Wyatt rather than the other way around (I'm going with Clara) and he is going to be so shocked
He could be used as a husband to another house to bring them into the fold
At this point I'm going out on a limb but Clara Astor has got to be partly the reason why Duke Cornelius is rebelling. Whatever is in her story that makes nobles want nothing to do with her much be bad to the point draymore might think her influence might change noble society

I don’t understand the comment the Prince said to Wyatt about his eyes and something about his gaze. Please help me understand if any of you do understand.
It was the Princes way of saying that no matter how much Wyatt and his position in society has changed, don't let it change his behaviour & how he treats people for the worst, that he should remain & become a force for good instead.

Edit 2: ok, i was thinking about Gabriel and the prince, and i can be overthinking, but why i feel Gabriel has some kind of love connection with the prince? I mean, i can 100% be wrong, but i also can be right y'know?
The author writes each chapter live. Once he's written the chapter, he sends it to me to transform into the video you watch.
Unfortunately, some chapters are an hour long, and others are 20 minutes, so it's difficult to give a definitive day for when a chapter might be ready.

It averages out as roughly one new chapter every 5 days
