Thanks for taking a very common, tired old question and making it really interesting. "Every character will hold you back in some ways and boost you in others." Great stuff.
Absolutely agree. Learning a character you don't like is just work. Learning someone you enjoy watching and\or feels good playstyle-wise is pleasure, even if you aren't winning.

I’m brand new to tekken and I picked Dragonuv because I liked that you could make him look like Toji and he has sick grappling and throws. I played some training to get some strings and throws down and overall just felt how he moved. Jumped into ranked and started getting blasted, still quite fun 😃
I never took fighting games seriously but thought i might try it with tekken 8 and get some fundamentals. Sure i watched some tierlist for which character is easy to pick up and tried those characters but in the end i didnt have fun because most of them didnt fit my style of playing. After that i played every character a bit and stuck with steve. He may not be the easiest character but i have fun with him even when i lose. It makes learning so much easier and better.

I've been playing Lili since T6, and I have to agree with this guy, she is kind of a scrubby character. The game plan is very much still to fish for ch and whiff punish, but she has so many free damage pokes.
As per usual the advice in just about every single character-based game is to pick whichever you think is cool and the rest will follow. I do like the extra spice of nuance about how once you feel a degree of mastery learning another character can be a good way to expand your skills.
eddy was my main in t7 which was my first real tekken game.i learned him because i remember getting cooked by him as a kid on like tekken 3 at the skating rink, so i said i wanna learn how to actually be good with him. so i did. but i eventually started seeing the holes in his kit when i ran into higher level people and saw how easily most of his stuff can be shut down. so i started learning others, and im a masochist who likes an execution challenge so i learned electrics(still cant figure out how to pewgf), i learned Lee, i learned Leo and dragunov with their stance cancels, (didnt make it to bryan taunt stuff it is hard) but the thing i really learned while doing all that was you can get really good at whatever character you want in tekken and they can all stomp any other character once youre good enough. but the biggest thing that made me better about branching out and getting a taste of more characters is that you can know your combos perfect all day long, but if you dont understand what another player is thinking on their character then youre gonna have a way harder time stopping them from enforcing their game plan on you. my advice for picking a character is start with who you think looks cool, maybe go watch a combo video of what they can do, if they still appeal to you after that give them a shot. execution in tekken can be scary for everybody not just new players, but if you love the character and you keep wanting to play them you just have to stick to it and you will get better and more wins. it's called practice for a reason. and you know what they say, practice gets perfects.
i already subbed after the last video, as someone who played tekken in his younger days and finally with tekken 8 i have time again to pick up one of my fav games to take it more seriously, ive been studying your videos to the best i can thanks!
I mained Kazumi In T7 cuz "looks cool and has a tiger" and fell in love with her over time. In T8, I'm really enjoying Reina a lot! She might over take Kazumi in my heart with more time, but I am committed to Reina for the foreseeable future. Picking someone who you "vide with" or "feels good in your hands" is so important. Not just in Tekken but every Fighting game
It’s been years since I played tekken. I played 6 back on the PS3 and Lars was the coolest to me back then. Picked up 8 and he’s just as cool as I remember. It feels good to be back
I naturally gravitate towards Paul. I'm a good keep out player who likes to play defensively, punish and bait out a counter hit/launch then combo for massive damage then pressure to kill or revert back to defensive once my turn is over. Paul is amazing at that but I worry like Tekken 7 that his gameplan becomes very tricky to implement at higher ranks due to certain moves just being unsafe that you can get away with in lower ranks. I've always loved Bryan and he is similar imo with more depth and way higher skill ceiling so I'm taking his opportunity with T8 to commit to fully learning him, having lots of fun so far and lots of losses which is all good because the wins are super satisfying as I learn knowing the sky is the limit with him.
The problem with Bryan is he's not harder because he gets many new opportunities, he's harder because he lost some of his tools, has wack heat and heat smash. It's like playing Tekken 7 in Tekken 8
"what kind of character are you looking for?" "I wanna hurt people's feelings" "Hurt them how?" "I want them to feel it" Paul. This is why I picked up Paul
You know I was a phidx fan before he even played Tekken8 right? Like I was watching his youtube before it was even poppin, because I liked how smart he was. I loved watching his noctis and wish that character was in Tekken8.@@kaztheunbreakable
My main from 7 (Bob) isn’t in 8, and I was trying to find a new “main”. There are characters who I think are cool and sick designs, but their move sets don’t feel very natural to me. Like I love Raven’s design, but I don’t vibe with the move set naturally. I can sit there and lab for days, but my progress is much slower than finding a character I feel better with naturally. Lars has so far been my favorite, with great launchers and mixups and aggression. His combos are fairly complex and nothing like what I’m used to from Bob in 7, but the core kit felt good and I’ve forced myself to make adjustments in order to start mastering his combos and tweaking them to my liking. On top of that I do think his kit feels so rewarding and visually stunning! Finally jumped on ranked for the first time a few days ago and I’ve been going on some crazy runs like 20 win streaks 😅 jumped up to Orange ranks pretty fast, hoping to get at least to get blue+ Thanks again for your insight Phidx! Hope to meet u at EVO this year! Gonna be interesting to experience it at the new venue 🤙
if you have ADHD like i do, he talks about something until 1:50 until he says several character names and puts emphasis on King. there ya go click off now
I think it's entirely about picking the characters that appeal to you, if you like someone's aesthetics you'll stick with them. When it comes to just starting and learning the basics i'm surprised Paul didn't come up, i've always seen him as a learner character in the past, i taught a friend basic combos using Paul because his moves are straightfoward and easy to read, he's got an uppercut, a hop kick, a fun power move that gets you used to doing moves after QCF, i tend to go for complicated characters but i've actually been thinking about picking up Paul so i can experience the simple life.
This is why I picked up Raven. He's hard af to use to me (mainly because of BT shenanigans), but I faced my fears and made it all the way to Red Ranks. I'm having a blast learning him, and best believe I'm not dropping Raven any time soon!
As a new player, a beginner character from the suggestions in the video was perfect for me. After improving online, I eventually felt comfortable branching away from my beginner character. If a character feels too difficult at the start, there’s always picking them up later once you feel more ready.
That line about liking your character is so important. I started playing Larz and I'm really happy with my main choice. It doesn't matter if you win or lose, it's about just having a good time and getting good.
I think I hit the jackpot. I know many hate her but ling was an amazing pick for me to start IMO. Im learning something new every day and every time I see a top Ling. Her movement is something I know it’s not clean enough yet but I if I keep at it I’ll be out here shmoovin
In fgs I tend to pick well-rounded characters as they make feel like I get to enjoy all aspects of the game with them, have tools for most situations I find myself in and I am less likely to lose or win based on gimmicks and/or loop-sided matchups. From what I’ve heard Jun(my main), Jin, Shaheen and maybe Leroy are the well-rounded characters in Tekken 8; would maining these characters make you less likely to stunt your growth in certain aspects of the game? And more specifically, what are the ways maining Jun would “stunt my growth in certain ways”?
This is great advice and very insightful. My character crisis was stressing me out haha. I'll play who I wanted to play without fear of being 'held back'. Thanks.
I remember when I first started playing Tekken 7 again 1.5 years ago. I picked up Dragunov and was going through so many wins with my aggression until I plateaud so hard. I finally watched a JDCR video about beginner characters and picked Paul and Shaheen. These characters really taught me proper game fundamentals. Then I picked up Steve it taught me to be patient. PhiDx was definitely on point with how each character has its own flavor and how it can help you grow differently
Actually if you need to be aggressive with a character to be effective with them, then that's never a good beginner friendly character, a beginner friendly character is who will teach you not only how to poke, but also how to block.
Interesting point of view and that confirms my opinion about picking your main, thank you for this video. It doesn't matter if you want to play a hard character if you're a beginner as long as you like it, you just need to be aware it will take time to be at ease with it. If you're okay with that, just enjoy and don't care about the rest. You could pick an easy character that you'll learn in minutes but you'll have to catch up with deadly mecanics instead. Either way, the result is the same. Heads or Tails, the coin is still the same coin. It just changes the perspective but if you don't like the coin at all, then it's pointless.
This is great advice! I got stuck at red with yoshi in this game, so I decided to give him a break and learn a new character I always liked watching, Dragunov. Specifically I liked the patience and more defensive play style of dragunov can play so I learned him that way. Now my defense is much better and im punishing lows that are seeable because I practiced my defense in lower ranks then where my yoshi was at.
I'm not SUPER new to tekken, but I still like looking at these kinds of videos hoping to find it really spelled out for unobservant people like me "This character excels in rushdown, this one fishes for CH, this character lends themselves to a poke heavy play style..." and giving examples of their main tools, what their gameplay looks like at intermediate levels, and maybe tips on not playing right into their gameplan. I mean I know that King is a grappler, but it's embarrassing how long it took me to add 2 and 2 by seeing that this threat of eating a long chain throw if I can't break it, that makes his hop kick (hop knee?) so dangerous. Or Jin being kind of a jack of all trades, he has the Mishima 50/50, but his hellsweep is quite a bit slower, so is his ff3, and his electric bounds the opponent so you get a less potent combo. He has the best parry, but you have to know what punish you can get, and strings will blow you up if you aren't aware of what you're doing. He's very strong in the neutral because he's so safe; a good df1 as well as 2 1 4 (especially in T8), uf2 with its evasiveness; great range on b2 1 and f4; shockingly good lows; full throw game; etc. So maybe try him out if you want to dabble with the various archetypes in the game. This might be asking for kind of a lot, so I'm not trying to criticize, just adding my 2 cents. Side note: as a Jin main, I'm kind of annoyed that they buffed his range, it takes away a good starting point on how to figure out how to beat a Jin player. I like more clear cut weaknesses, like that or Lidia (may she rest in peace) being obscenely linear with her best stuff being locked behind stances.
I immediately picked Victor when I started out and stuck with him so far, but I kinda hit a plateau around red ranks so I figured I should try other characters to broaden my skillset and I feel like I opened Pandora's Box. So many characters that seem interesting and I really want to play.
I played Law (mashing) my whole life. Cleared the whole roster's arcade modes on the hardest difficulty and fell in love with Hwoarang, who I hated in 3 funny enough. Trying to figure out a secondary
Thank you PhiDX this helped out as I was on the fence between Lee and Asuenta but after this I'll stick with Lee as I just love his personality, his cool looking combos, and just his marvelous personality
Would love a video spending however much time on each character, just going "play this character if you want to get carried by counter hitting" or "this character loves doing sidestep into whiff punish on hard reads." There are other guides out there like it, but I still want one from phi's perspective
Man I have so much to say on this. I agree with the spirit of the video. I agree with 90% of the commentary. However here I have a different opinion on Alisa. Alisa is a character that you need strong fundamentals and whiff punishment to win with. Alot of the other characters you mentioned have a strong gimmick that can be used to cheese lower level of play. However you are getting blown up with Alisa without fundamentals. There is no way to reasonable switch into chainsaws unless you punish / whiff punish. Majority of her damage comes from pokes and she still has to take a lot of risks on those pokes. So that means in an extremely offensive game you have no way to maintain high pressure without outside of chainsaw and you lose your turns repeatedly even while being advantage from pokes. So that means you have to block and side step to evade damage.
@@PhiDX it's duckable and can be side step compare it to Azuceena for example it's not even close. I feel like it shouldn't be re-actable but alot of people side step duck to force you to mix it up with run up d/b+4 which is launch punishable or iwr 4,3,4 which is punishable on block for the mid option to prevent the duck. Her iwr 2 is a high so it's dangerous. Alot of players will duck and eat the smaller damage mid that can be stepped or blocked that's why d/b+4 is important but that's also a low block.
I'm playing Jun cause she's who I learned on back in TT2. I've barely played since so I'm still intermediate at best, but I love the way her moves seem to flow so naturally from one to the other and it's been fun to see myself improve. Getting familiar with her move set has helped me spot the many gaps in my fundamentals (if anyone has good advice for spotting and reacting to low sweeps/launches please lmk). But yeah, I think getting familiar enough with one character so that you have access to all their tools will inevitably make you notice your fundamental weaknesses in defense/movement/reaction/etc.
I haven't played Tekken since Tekken Tag 1, and I was by no means serious with that game. I spammed all day long, never learned any mechanics. I picked this game up because of Reina. I love everything about her style, design and persona. I am having so much fun learning how to play, and I've seen myself improve astronomically just in the span of a few weeks, while fully understanding I'm still a beginner. My determination is to stick with this game for the long haul, and see how far I can take my skills. P.S.: Phi's videos have been my primary courses for learning. This man is such a good teacher.
It really is true that you can only learn a character well if you like their kit. This kit doesn't have to be what they bring to the game plan, but simply how it feels.
Stunning growth is real from every character, since I use Shaheen I'm used to attack with my lows, but when I used Reina, I felt that how I play doesn't work on her, so Imma just learn more HAHAHA
Panda/Kuma is seriously underrated for new players. They are super goofy and fun to play, while having one of the simplest 72 damage combo that works from any launcher
I’m actually deeply interested in getting to a tournament level of play so I can go to at least local tournaments once a week in my hometown so, yeah hopefully this will help me find my character for that
You King stuff resonated with me totally. A was a noob a year and a half ago in Tekken 7 and chose marduk. Shot up to red very quickly, but he limited my fundamental learning massively. The irony is I started maining Dragunov to learn fundamentals... And now he's the one on steroids in tekken 8 😂
In the end you’ll have to train and spend a lot of time with any character so just choose the one who’s fun to you! I was being stubborn about learning Xiaoyu because her style was so pretty, but learning her was feeling like a chore. I just played Nina the other day and she’s more difficult because of execution but I just have fun playing with her and it doesn’t feel like such a chore anymore.
I don't know if I'm weird but I do feel like most casual/semi competitive players will switch characters all the time. Most people don't have the patience to pick 1 character and play with them for the entire lifespan of a Tekken game. So what I did in T7 is just played everyone. Maybe I didn't become an expert at any particular character, but I definitely learned the game and how every character works, which to me is a very important aspect of these games.
I mained Anna and T7.. spent months trying to break through purple ranks. Decided to switch and main bears for my defense. Now I have both at blue ranks. Its great
There's no good or bad character...just pick the one you feel most comfortable with, and then explore with them. In my case I've always mained Lei Wulong from past Tekkens, in his absence, now I'm playing Jun Kazama who was my choice in T2 and the tag series
The thing is with Tekken is that every character can be played fundamentally and it makes me kinda feel bad saying which character is easier to learn and which one is an expert character, even tho let's say someone like Bryan(My main) is harder to win with than with most of the characters it doesn't mean that if you want to win with Yoshi in higher ranks you can just spam flash and flowcharts, because a better, or let's say a more patient player will start countering these stuff.
I went with Lee cause he's my favorite. But I'm already second guessing my choice, because I've realized that his gameplay kinda relies on the opponent just pushing buttons (mashing), and I'm not sure that will even work at all at a higher level... not that I'm gonna be "high level" for a good long while though, if ever, lol.
I'm a 'high rank' Lee (Raijin) and I can assure you Lee's gameplay does not rely on people mashing buttons, people usually stop mindlessly mashing at around Red ranks + , after that it becomes a game of knowledge checking ur opponent, using low frame punishes and launch punishing everything u can read, learning what common moves are punishable is kinda essential after a certain point, one thing that most guides won't tell u is learning what Moves people aren't ready to read, Lee has a lot of moves that are rarely used and is rly good for catching ppl off guard, if u can master his just frame moves and get accustomed to his wall carry mechanics and pokes he is extremely strong, I would argue he is the hardest character to master in the game though due to his insanely hard inputs sometimes. Do not give up on Lee tho, he is the most satisfying character to main IMO, I have mained Jin, Dragunov, Devil Jin, Alissa and Yoshimitsu but by far the most fun to play for me was Lee and I have stuck with him since Tekken 4.
What i do is learn a character and play it for 2 days then go on to the next one my goal is to have knowledge about the game and being able to play any character to play when i play with my friends and finally playing the game for fun this is how i play this game
When I was a kid I played the absolute shit out of Tekken 3 and Tekken Tag and Hworang was my boy. I wasn’t into learning crazy combos or anything and just spammed the 4 kick combo and launcher. I then didn’t play Tekken again until I dabbled in 7 a bit and then picked up 8 a month ago on sale. I’m exclusively using Hworang even though I’m pretty much a noob and he’s pretty difficult to master. Have such a nostalgic link to him that he’s the character I have most fun as and I don’t wanna learn to play anyone else. Means I get beat a TONNE but slowly but surely learning how to master the mechanics and hovering around middle red ranks. For me it’s all just about what gives me the most fun, regardless of win / loss.
as a beginner who's trying out some more characters, i struggle with king's inputs more than other character's i've tried, so i feel that chatter that said king isn't that easy
My buddy who’s never played tekken before came over picked king, didn’t even look at move list, mashed buttons and did the combo throw that does like half of your life bar, I can’t imagine he’s that hard
@@aupturvega8860 there's a decided difference between doing something on accident and doing something intentionally 🤣 most of the time when i attempt death cradle i either get bopped for doing a forward motion for the throw starter, or mess up the timing on the chaining and drop it immediately; the mental stack of having to do a motion is also making my defense fall apart completely. i'm sure it'll get easier with experience, but that doesn't take away the hurdle, y'know?
Hello! I'm curious you mentioned Kazumi for a character that teaches you everything in t7, but not Shaheen. What areas do you think he may not teach you very well in t8?
Ive been trying to learn Bryan. It's crazy to me when I see people land multiple TJUs in a match because I can't even land one, but there's so much other stuff for me to work on before that becomes a problem
Finally somebody explains why you should pick a character you like and doesn't just say "it doesn't matter". Aris also explained it very well for Tekken 7: "The game is hard. Pick whoever you like because you are going to be trash no matter what"
I've forgotten what even makes Yoshi a 'difficult' or non-beginner friendly character. He has a lot of moves, but you don't really need them to feel like a god in this game with him. He does 90+ damage free off of basically every combo and they're not even hard to do.
For me, it was the opposite: in the Soulcalibur franchise, my main was missing in the previous opus ( SC 5 ) and returned in SC 6, where I enjoyed much, much more the game again. And honestly, I became even better and sharper because when you have fun learning stuff and improving your gamestyle, your progression is way easier. I mean, if you don't enjoy playing video games, what's the point, right?
I know nothing about Tekken, but in other games I always just pick the characters I like the vibes of and then see if the playstyle works for me. I just got the game, and I assumed I'd just play Reina, but looking at all the characters, I really vibe with Jun (because the bird is really cute, and she somehow reminds me of the Tactics Ogre Reborn cover artwork).
Picking characters you actually like I feel like is applicable to every fighting game. Im on a SF player but my main isn't in SF6 so I was playing Ken who I like and ended up being top tier but I dont like Ken enough to grind it out with him and hurt my motivation with that game. Tekken 8 has Jun who is probably my favorite Tekken character so im more motivated to grind it out with Tekken 8
I consider myself a beginner due to me not having the money to buy hardware to play Tekken, even during Tekken 5 as a student. Now that I can play Tekken 8, my go to character is Asuka and I immediately fell inlove with her (more due to her tomboyish personality lol). A lot of videos online say she's pretty easy but I haven't figured out how I should play her yet so my losing streak with her is 18. kek
As for king stunting growth by learning him as ur first ever tekken character in short yes at least in my case. I just started playing a week or two ago and the first character i picked up was king learned the fundamentals of the game using him AND his unique abilities and thats what fucked me up. Like for example im constantly trying to grab my opponents during a juggle when im playing kazuya because i dont comprehend in the middle of the fight that only king can grab opponents mid air and so i drop hella combos and get punished really hard. Fun character tho i would just pick a more fundamental character if i could go back in time
Me back when i started "hardest characters are not as hard as people make out to be i should be fine with mishimas" . . . *tries doing 1 electric for a day and fails*. Picks Jin spends 400 hours on him, doesn't like him in tekken 8 goes for devil jin instead. "I DON'T HAVE STRINGS DOOD WTH JUST LAZER SCRAPER BAIT, EVERYTHING IS - ONLY MY JAB IS OKAY TO THROW OUT ". *Watches momo being a dangerous wall and says* "well i'm offically a scrub". Red ranks rn but trying to improve as much as i can and your vids and streams just opened my eyes to labbing and trying stuff in matches. Thx PhiDX keep up the good work sir o7
Honestly imo Panda is a very easy for new player, as Rangchu said you don't have to master wave dashes just need to understand spacing and timing and panda movement is very easy to be use in pad and keyboards.
Also going with what you’re saying I may not be good with Bryan but I still enjoy playing and wanting to get good with him and once i get blue ranks with him I’ll want to play Dragunov Feng Steve or Mishimas
Alot of the time, people pick a character who looks cool but said character is hard or less easy than another and they lose interest and go all over the roster looking for another. Also i think playstyle matters but i also believe with enough investment and labbing, a character can be adopted to fit a playstyle and vice versa. I played Tekken 5 and instantly fell in love with Raven coz he looked cool, but I later tried Dragunov and he fit my slightly more aggressive style and still with him to this day. The I picked Lars in Tekken 6 and those are my mains.u gotta experiment with a character b4 giving up on them. Dont try to just copy what you see other players of ur character do.
2:41 If this interests you, can you do a video on characters to practice with based of your main character? ie someone who teaches you the opposite of what you know by learning their moves or playstyle. Peace out dude, love the content
Interesting concept! It's a bit hard because not everyone plays characters the same way. For example I had to play Kazuya in Tekken 7 to learn how to make committal actions that attacked my opponent's decisions (Noctis was too safe and high coverage)
@@PhiDX Thank you dude! Yeah it wouldn't be easy I guess, and would probably take a long time to make on your own. Maybe you could do a collaboration video with some of the great Tekken minded players/content creators if the time ever arises. Good luck in any upcoming tournaments your in!
Tekken 8 is my first tekken and I started with kazuya. I’ve been getting my ass handed to me constantly but any win I do manage to get feels that much better
Honestly, I was debating between Yoshi or Reina for T8, played mostly Hei and Yoshi in T7. Reina's VA really sold me on the character. Coolness > anything else
Characters in order i want to learn 1- Jin Kazama 2- Marshall Law 3- Paul Phoenix 4- Kazuya Mishima 5- Devil Jin 6- Steve Im looking to Master these 6 players and use them online mix them up for certain matches. I go by the characters i like the way they look.
the thing i found struggling with is not choosing the character , its the learning curve . i picked kazuya and managed to do electrics and whiff punish and wave dash . but the thing is there is difference between able to do them and mastering them . i wanna look cool playing kazuya but its the learning curve thats making me question my life choices 😂

Well said 🙏
Feels like some nice extra context was added in places where other videos don't usually cover as well when it comes to this topic.
eddy was my main in t7 which was my first real tekken game.i learned him because i remember getting cooked by him as a kid on like tekken 3 at the skating rink, so i said i wanna learn how to actually be good with him. so i did. but i eventually started seeing the holes in his kit when i ran into higher level people and saw how easily most of his stuff can be shut down. so i started learning others, and im a masochist who likes an execution challenge so i learned electrics(still cant figure out how to pewgf), i learned Lee, i learned Leo and dragunov with their stance cancels, (didnt make it to bryan taunt stuff it is hard) but the thing i really learned while doing all that was you can get really good at whatever character you want in tekken and they can all stomp any other character once youre good enough. but the biggest thing that made me better about branching out and getting a taste of more characters is that you can know your combos perfect all day long, but if you dont understand what another player is thinking on their character then youre gonna have a way harder time stopping them from enforcing their game plan on you. my advice for picking a character is start with who you think looks cool, maybe go watch a combo video of what they can do, if they still appeal to you after that give them a shot. execution in tekken can be scary for everybody not just new players, but if you love the character and you keep wanting to play them you just have to stick to it and you will get better and more wins. it's called practice for a reason. and you know what they say, practice gets perfects.
i already subbed after the last video, as someone who played tekken in his younger days and finally with tekken 8 i have time again to pick up one of my fav games to take it more seriously, ive been studying your videos to the best i can thanks!
Milk toast character vibes with no personality users, shocker
I was impressed seeing kazumu videos i realised later she is no more in tkn8 why man i bought ps5 and game
0:48 based move list

Paul. This is why I picked up Paul
Tell everyone to play Lili, she is the ultimate being
I love how lili mains flocked to this guys page and never left
You know I was a phidx fan before he even played Tekken8 right? Like I was watching his youtube before it was even poppin, because I liked how smart he was. I loved watching his noctis and wish that character was in Tekken8.@@kaztheunbreakable
@@kaztheunbreakable We would have never guessed he'd become a Lili main lmao, ONE OF US ONE OF US
I picked Alisa cause she has chainsaws and beats people with her head.
Gonna be interesting to experience it at the new venue 🤙
if you have ADHD like i do, he talks about something until 1:50 until he says several character names and puts emphasis on King. there ya go click off now
This is the best advice for any fighting game.
Just play who you like. You're enjoyment of the character will carry you through your losses.
@@rhinoman86 Oh don't worry i would change the awful hair.
You're eating well then! I'm constantly seeing the absolute sickest Ling players in these tournaments on TH-cam.
Nah who cares about public perception. It’s a blessing that you found the character you really enjoy
PhiDX is a man of culture, I approve
Getting through ANY fighter without liking your character is a nightmare.
Thank you for answering my question! Means a lot to get clarity!
I bought the game 2 days ago and instantly picked reina. Great advice btw
If you haven’t already check out rooflemonger’s choose your main video. It might be what you looking for
@@nikochapman5150 thanks, I'll check it out. I think it might've shown up in my recommended videos not long ago.
Lidia is likely DLC, so at least she won't RIP for long
I immediately picked Victor when I started out and stuck with him so far, but I kinda hit a plateau around red ranks so I figured I should try other characters to broaden my skillset and I feel like I opened Pandora's Box. So many characters that seem interesting and I really want to play.
Every character does different stuff.
Lee the GOAT.
WR2 goes into chainsaw now
@@PhiDX it's duckable and can be side step compare it to Azuceena for example it's not even close.
I picked Reina, loosing essentially every game, but enjoy her fighting style, so still having fun
Soo true for me😅 Reina one love💜
It really is true that you can only learn a character well if you like their kit. This kit doesn't have to be what they bring to the game plan, but simply how it feels.
Stunning growth is real from every character, since I use Shaheen I'm used to attack with my lows, but when I used Reina, I felt that how I play doesn't work on her, so Imma just learn more HAHAHA
Panda/Kuma is seriously underrated for new players.
They are super goofy and fun to play, while having one of the simplest 72 damage combo that works from any launcher
I’m actually deeply interested in getting to a tournament level of play so I can go to at least local tournaments once a week in my hometown so, yeah hopefully this will help me find my character for that
Each character has something to teach you. Just pick one that you enjoy
my friend recommended me to use Devil jin is he hard?
You King stuff resonated with me totally. A was a noob a year and a half ago in Tekken 7 and chose marduk. Shot up to red very quickly, but he limited my fundamental learning massively. The irony is I started maining Dragunov to learn fundamentals... And now he's the one on steroids in tekken 8 😂
I wanna pick heihachi wat cheat code do i enter at the main menu to unlock him
You press select on the default cursor memory on the character select screen
Its great
first tekken game for me and i’m playing kazuya because wave dash looks cool 🙂
@@CRACKK Thanks for the advice! That’s good to hear.

You just need to learn your bread and butter and add to it until your ready
Great advise here i thought i just didn't like tekken when i played jin, switched to xaioyu and im having a blast
Hello! I'm curious you mentioned Kazumi for a character that teaches you everything in t7, but not Shaheen. What areas do you think he may not teach you very well in t8?
Clearly, he just forgot about Shaheen... because everyone forgets he's even in the game😂😢
Ive been trying to learn Bryan. It's crazy to me when I see people land multiple TJUs in a match because I can't even land one, but there's so much other stuff for me to work on before that becomes a problem
that outro is so fucking gooooooooooood ASIDJAOSDKOAKSFLMAO
A lot of videos online say she's pretty easy but I haven't figured out how I should play her yet so my losing streak with her is 18. kek
picked up the game as lee, absolutely loving it
As for king stunting growth by learning him as ur first ever tekken character in short yes at least in my case.
Fun character tho i would just pick a more fundamental character if i could go back in time
I was a Negan Main in Tekken 7 and I'm still looking for someone I like so I'll just play everyone up to ruler and then see who I like the most

The tough gaming life:
Wanting to get competitive, without making your family ragequite cause you're too good
Also going with what you’re saying I may not be good with Bryan but I still enjoy playing and wanting to get good with him and once i get blue ranks with him I’ll want to play Dragunov Feng Steve or Mishimas
Yo that pigeon at 5:21 though. Spooky.
I’ve been getting my ass handed to me constantly but any win I do manage to get feels that much better

the thing i found struggling with is not choosing the character , its the learning curve . i picked kazuya and managed to do electrics and whiff punish and wave dash . but the thing is there is difference between able to do them and mastering them . i wanna look cool playing kazuya but its the learning curve thats making me question my life choices 😂
