Cyan and orange aren't just shown in Fallen order. They made their appearance in KOTOR and KOTOR 2. No real background story on their meanings though Maybe it's just a coloured kyber without a meaning. Although in KOTOR two there is something interesting you can get only one or the other depending on your light, or Darkside alignment. This is surely a game mechanic but it opens up the possibility of a natural color for light, or Darkside.
Im surprised you didnt mention Bastila from Kotor as a notable sentinel as well as Revan as a purple saber user then theres the Exile Meetra Surik who used as Cyan saber as well all three of those Jedi are canon since KOTOR 1 is being remastered some can say the Exile is from 2 and its unknown if that will get a remaster which would make it canon only problem with that logic is that Canderous is in 2 who is canon or rather if you want to be technical will be canon when the remaster of KOTOR drops
In the original expanded universe, after Samuel L. Jackson's insistence in the movies, the purple lightsaber was for a weapons/lightsaber master. Also, the crystals were not originally "mood crystals", but crystals assigned to those who followed specific paths in the Jedi Order. The white crystals were originally made through alchemy as white crystals were not found naturally and were part of a new factional order splitting off of the New Jedi Order that Luke Skywalker had built up. The original Expanded Universe is far better than the disney garbage that is out there. Though, from what I understand, The Mandalorian is a great show and is on my to watch list.
I saw an interview with Samuel L. Jackson in which he indicated that they asked him what color lightsaber he wanted and he chose purple. It didn’t sound like he was insisting upon it.
I like how he explained mace windu’s crystal and how he wasn’t evil but used the dark side, I feel like he would have been a perfect master for anakin and if they had a better relationship things would have been different. Appreciate all the love honestly didn’t expect this to get much attention🙏
I think that would have been great but I think he could sence the darkness and that's why he pushed him away not realizing how much his actions affected him not realizing he needed to be embrace because of all the stuff he has Been through he needed a father figure a real mentor that challenged him because he respected obi wan but like a brother not a father and that's what went wrong he needed someone to replace quigon and his actual father that he never had and mace would have been the best candidate with his own personal and internal fight and all of the things that come with being a jedi and growing to know the good and the bad but being able to stay on a righteous path idk but yea I agree I think it would have been a great choice in an alternate time line
That would have required George Lucas to act think about what he wanted out of his decisions and how they impact the narrative as a whole. But, well, here we are...
It was originally portrayed as only blue and red. But when Luke's blue lightsaber wasn't showing up for the Sarlacc, they made a green one. Ofc they patched these sorts of things in the story but it's just fascinating to me that something so simple, such as the color not showing up in film, became a story arc for all Jedi.
Always cool to see writers be able to write things in from unexpected sources. Something similar in Kingdom Hearts where Vanitas was created becuase the VA of Sora just really just wanted to play a villain.
@@hmmmooopsmore cooler how the whole meninf mean he not affraid to use dark side power while in reality he did the same thing! Not affraided to ask his favorite color in an high end movie trilogy! 😂😂😂
There was a bug in Jedi Academy at one point that would make the lightsabers strobe all color combinations in sequence, so FUCK YEAH GIMME A SIEZURE SABER PLEASE. The only thing... Kylo's wrist slicer, for the emo vader wannabee... like omg the saber design is suicidal... ugh.
My interpretation for Orange is that it is sort of like purple. It’s a mix of yellow and red. A sentinel who is not afraid to tap into the dark side for the sake of the good.
Yea and that is almost certainly what it is. He turned his lightsaber off in the middle of a fight against the Second Sister, which in pretty sure is considered an "illegal" move in a lightsaber dual.
It's so interesting to me how advanced the symbolism for these colors has become. They originally just picked colors, right? There's the famous story about why Luke's saber changed to green. They were filming in a real desert and the blue didn't show up very well, so they made it green. But it's really cool how it's expanded over the years and become so much more than just that.
i think it was also because they thought the audience would think it was the same lightsaber as the previous one, so they made it obvious it was a different one
I think their intention originally was that Sith used red and Jedi used blue, exclusively. Luke switching to green was a way of saying Luke wasn't the last of the old Jedi, but the first of the new.
@@rudolphclancy8293 I think it became that, but originally the choice was purely practical. It's the same with purple. There never was any symbolism. Sam Jackson just wanted purple because that's his favorite color. And sure it became a great way to show that Mace Windu had some Sith tendencies, since red and blue make purple, but it wasn't originally chosen for that reason.
I’ve heard that too but I heard an audio clip of Lucas working it out with the team in the early stages of the script, and says “well anakin lost his light sabre in a volcano fight with obi wan before getting burned, and reborn as Vader… That’s the one which is given to Luke, and Luke looses his fathers sabre when he learns the truth in the last movie, so in this third one he’ll make his own lightsaber to show him becoming his own man” - and one of the other guys goes, “that’s great! we should make it a brand new colour too. Like maybe green or something, so people can visually see that idea, something not red or blue”
@Hudson Hamman In the context of the story, yes. But I'm literally not talking about that. I'm talking about the creators of Star Wars, not the characters within the story. So they did just pick colors. Red and blue at first. Then green when blue didn't work outside. Like I said, the symbolism came later.
@@alltheworldsastage4785 Same I always found it weird, especially if the character is excellent using the force. Obviously applying reality to it which you usually need a sense of disbelief when watching fictional media. It's like why not force push your opponent into lava or something, or take their lightsaber and crush it.
@@hazelcrisp Im not well-versed in star wars universe, but i know my fictional writings, so if i had to guess, its because of the same reason why they are using light sabers in the first place and not get a blaster and start blasting everything safely from a distance. Its about the discipline and the code. If you are using the force for "your benefit", then you are just "exploiting it". Which is what the dark side is, i think. They go so far off into the exploiting side, that they are no longer attuned to it, losing control. It has to be like a partner i think, its good that you have someone by your side, every once in a while its nurturing presence(both in materialistic sense and emotional) helps you go through some of the hardships of life, but at the moment you start actively abuse your partner for the benefits, it starts to get problematic real fast.
Not sure if this would technically be canon anymore since it’s only mentioned in legends, but part of the (in universe) reason was that Jedi and Sith usually had an invisible “force shield” around them that protected them to an extent from other force users. Without it, their opponents would be able to do things like shove them around, take their lightsaber or even just turn it off in their hands. To do anything to them you’d need some way to either get around the shield or break through it, so unless there was a big enough power difference to just break through (such as when Yoda took Ventress’ lightsabers in tcw) it’s usually better to just attack with the lightsaber in the hopes of breaking their focus since it wasn’t something automatic and actually something that they needed to consciously make and maintain throughout the fight
I like the theory that the orange colored lightsaber is due to a failed bleed. The user pours enough hate to start a bleed, but not enough to cause it to become fully red
@@moneburchett3193 I feel like it'd make more sense for a pink lightsaber to be a failed pure one. Cuz purifying a red lightsaber turns it white, and pink is a combination of red and white
I think it would be a cool way to tell it if when he combined his and Cere’s lightsaber because her lightsaber had the trauma of her past echoing in it that it caused his crystal to turn orange
Now a year later, Baylan in Ahsoka has an orange saber. This makes me really love your theory that the orange is someone who tried to turn it red but failed. This seems spot on for what we know if his character this far (only 5 episodes in).
Or, going by the Extended Universe (older, now non-canon) you make it that color to show fealty to the dark side or your own personal view on the ambiguity of the force. The whole 'mood ring' nature the cartoons made canon is so cheese.
I love how all the initial color variations came about because of plain and simple visual appeal, (green for Luke because it was easier to see against the blue sky background. Purple for Mace, because Sam just liked purple) then when fans screamed for there to be some kind of meaning the writers were all like “shit I guess we have to make something up now”
The original made up reason for a purple light saber is that meant one was a weapons master. That was in the Expanded Universe and not the lame disney garbage mood ring light saber junk.
@@LucanVaris thats so fucking true I saw some bts of Star Wars movies and he basically said " can I have mine purple ' and the director or whoever just said yh because of the fact no-one will say no to him
I always loved Mace Windu's lightsaber simply because it was a rare color, and Mace was a freaking badass. Now that I know the meaning behind it, I love it even more.
@@Laccc exactly. It was the one pre requisite he had to even joining the franchise. He initially said it as a joke. So imagine his surprise when they handed him a purple lightsaber.
I like the idea that the magenta reveals a jedi of the light side that doesn’t shy away from passion and emotion but can still move through these feelings and ultimately feel happiness in them and the force. It wouldn’t work under the current order obviously bc they wouldn’t approve of such attachments, but an independent jedi could def have a pink blade if we’re using this connection
They better not mess with the Darksaber. It staying black makes way more sense, since black is the color of Justice for Mandalorians, something that would fit a Mandalorian Jedi perfectly.
@@dredd6696 wait so shouldnt it be able to pierce through mandalorian armour? If that's so, the saber might as well, be equally "not noble" for duels. Plus the armourer said that beskar is used only for armours. So why would they glorify a weapon that can cut through beskar and is considered "not noble"?
My personal theory for the orange saber meaning is that it's an inverse of the meaning of the blue saber (since orange and blue are opposites). Blue wielders focus on going and destroying evil and protecting others, but orange would mean someone protecting themselves and destroying evil from within. It could also combine with the theory that Orange represents trauma and that it's a mirror of yellow. Except instead of improving themselves with skills, they improve themselves mentally and spiritually.
I like the trauma theory since Cal did have to see his master die at the very young age of 12, so yeah. And I like the destroying evil from within as well.
The saddest part of customizing my lightsaber in KOTOR was finding out it was entirely cosmetic. I'd anticipated saber choice having long-term, irreversible effects on my force development over the course of the game, and instead I got "Ooh, yellow matches my outfit today!"
@@lukefloor It was canon until disney told Lucas to make it not canon and remove the Expanded Universe before buying it up and trashing the whole series with their raw sewage ideas. That way, they wouldn't have to pay any possible royalties to the writers of the EU books and greedily keep the profits while destroying the franchise. Total slimeball corporate idiocy.
I felt more satisfied using green than blue in Fallen Order. It made sense because Cal was trying to reconnect with the force and got more and more in tuned with his force powers and abilities as the story progressed.
I personally think the magenta blade means the user is young at heart and just uses the force to make their lives easier without deeply devoting themselves to it.
My personal thoughts on the orange saber is that it would be like a mix between yellow and red, being able to use the dark side for good while also mixing the force and lightsaber combat together. I'd see it as the ultimate balance and would immediately respect any wielder of the blade, but its only a theory.
I just beat Jedi Survivor (The sequel to fallen order) and this makes so much sense. At the end of the game Cal gains the ability to freeze time and do increased damage in what’s considered a “dark side state” but he’s only using it to protect himself against the empire.
My interpretation of the meaning behind the orange saber is that its wielder was put through extreme physical and/or mental trauma, but still managed to remain on the Light Side. Orange lightsaber wielders can be seen as having significant mental fortitude, since they experienced an incredible amount of suffering but still refused to turn to the Dark Side. Cal Kestis, having survived Order 66 as a youngling and being forced into hiding, would obviously be a wielder of an orange saber.
There were Fallen Jedi with orange blades. And I read about "Kohlen crystal" or "fool's kyber", which aren't real kyber crystals. They can power an orange blade but are much weaker in the force. They can be used for energy weapons or shields that can hold off lightsabers.
In fallen order it has no meaning, it's just cosmetic. Fallen order was a half ass game... A good one but also a new one, made to sell good and look cool
The Real Meanings, per George Lucas Himself Red: Because it looks cool with Black Blue: Because it was the opposite of Red. Green: Because it was different Yellow: Because Kenner Fucked up the Luke Action figure Purple: Because he's Sam L Jackson THE END
@@darrentoothill4947 in painting it is, but everybody associates red as bad and evil and blue as good and heroic, some associate green with good too, but thats just painters and people who play shooters
In my opinion, the orange sabre means a pure balance between the light and the dark sides of the force. While purple uses switch between light and dark, orange users maintain. A constant balance. That is why plo koon usea them in legends. He uses a similar force technique to force lightning and always seems to make his own decisions. Cal's pain must have made him realize this balance within him.
Balance would be the purple because blue and red While orange is red and yellow Btw anger, passion, hot blood not always bad things! Just like how diplomacy also not always good!
I always noticed that jedi with the green lightsabers are more creative with using the force and jedi with the blue lightsabers are more creative with lightsaber fights/duels.I think i may be in the minority here but i really like the creative significance with different lightsaber colours.
@@MythicMachina I mean yes but using the force and not skilled with the lightsabor would be a useless fighting style. But yes Yoda uses the force to fight.
The orange light saber could mean the same as Mace windus but different, blue+red=purple so that is the type of jedi who focuses on lightsaber combat but isn't afraid to tap into the dark side if needed. Yellow+red=orange so maybe it's a jedi sentinel who isn't afraid to tap into the dark side if needed.
In the old books, there was a Jedi during the New Republic era named Corran Horn who built a lightsaber with a silver blade-- it had something to do with an odd crystal and the fact that he used two focusing crystals to make the blade's length adjustable. (See "I, Jedi" by Michael Stackpole)
@@Thiloyeah in KoTOR 2 there was silver, cyan, viridian, bronze, plus the standard blue, green, yellow, purple, and red. There really was a good assortment of colors in that game.
Personality I have always viewed orange to be a guardian of the Force in general. The user seeks out a balance with both the light and the dark side. One must exist with the other. Too much darkness or too much light will both leave you blind. An example of this would be the years upon years of Jedi not having a dark side to combat, thus they strayed too far from their roles from serving the living Force to serving the Republic and didn't see the Sith rise back to power under their noses.
This man did just a little bit of research. I love how the last 4 were all from Jedi Fallen Order, mine of which in-game is orange. Really enjoyed this!
In the KOTOR games, there's also a cool Viridian colored crystal available as well. Probably just a game cosmetic type thing, but I would like to think it was to green what sky blue was to regular blue, in that you needed to harvest the crystal with intense focus on the cosmic force.
Unfortunately most of the Kotor crystals and lore stopped being canon. Fortunately, some of it is being brought back into canon. We'll see if some of the unique crystal colors from there make it over.
Revan, when he was still canon used a purple Lightsaber when he was a Jedi. I can't quite remember what color Meetra (The Exile) used. I want to say it was originally silver before she left the Jedi Order to join Revan and Malik in the Mandalorian War.
Cal’s blade could also be a result of a Jedi who has the attributes of someone who would end up with a yellow saber but isn’t afraid to use the dark side of the force like someone who has a purple saber. Because blue and red make purple so I figured it would be the same for Cal. Yellow and red make orange.
Personally, When I played Fallen order, I didn’t feel right with using Blue, or Green. I had orange as a preorder bonus.... but still nothing. When Kal remade his light saber, I was drawn to magenta. I use it every time I played the game.
I love how lightsaber colours have snowballed into this big extension of character, force attunement and general personality. They were all originally white until it was hard to tell who's saber was who's whilst the iconic Death Star lights were shining in the Obi Wan v Vader fight in 1977, so blue and red came about. Then green became a thing because of the Sail Barge fight and Luke's blue lightsaber didn't show up well against the sky so green was made. Then purple because nobody says no to Samuel L Jackson. And now the colours have advanced symbolism for what kind of Jedi a character is. So cool.
in real life i feel like i would use red and blue. the yin and yang. alot of days i feel i am a warrior guardian and some days i want to embrace the dark side.😂 pretty cool tho. but yea i think the colors having personality is very valid. it has philosophy in it in real life aswell.
I think the whole mood ring thing now is 'meh'. I much preferred it to be a personal, fashion choice or at worst to show you have fealty to the dark side than it being a force sensitive entity on its own. It kind of takes the agency away from the person and makes it more of a Harry Pottery 'wand chooses the Wizard' instrument of fate instead.
I’ve always maybe be intrigued by the idea Cals power to feel the history/the echo in the force is why he has the orange weapon, since not many Jedi have had that power. But I don’t know of any other Jedi who has had this power
An alternative interpretation of Orange might be someone whose connection to the force as well as their spirit has suffered An injury turning almost red like a bled kyber but ultimately reestablished themself to the light side in an almost Sentinel mindset, as we see Cal is a very balanced force wielder, in his skill tree witch by the games end is filled out to both lightsaber and force connection in equal measure.
Blue: Warrior, combat focused. Green: Diplomat, prefers to mediate and find peaceful solutions to problems. (Variations of Green have also been combat focused yes ik.) Orange: Spy, possibly combat focused. Pink: Guardian, usually Jedi who have a pink crystal normally atunes to their personality, this usually changes the crystal's color. Yellow(and or Golden): Sentinel, the protectors and Temple guards normally have these.(possibly synthetic in nature.) Purple: Badass whose dabbled with both sides of the Force. Usually combat focused. Red(Natural red): Rogue, is usually driven by intense emotion. Combat focused. Red(Synthetic): Created by Sith as spesefic as possible. Normally combat focused. White: the Force in general. All possible aspects. Most at peace with themselves and the universe. Crystals that have been through the Bleeding process(the corrupting of the crystal turning it red.) if healed, also becomes white in color.
@@michelveilleux2075 Windu actually never used the darkside of the force. His technique reflects dark emotions and the darkside back at his opponent, but he himself, never touches it. You can't actually use both at the same time, because the darkside is just a corruption of the force in its natural state.
@@ironwill179 eh, hit swing and a miss. Vaapad isn't for everyone. Mace seems to be the one and only Jedi that can go full kickass without getting Darkside Corruption.
@@michelveilleux2075 He doesn't get darkside corruption because he doesn't use the darkside. If he happens to fight someone who uses the darkside, their power gets reflected to them via Vaapad, but he doesn't touch it. By definition of the force, you can't use both sides at once. The "light" side is mearly the force in its natural state, while the darkside is you bending it to your will. You can't do both at the same time. It's also why the "balance" in the force is achieved when all the sith are gone. Because balance in the force exists in the absence of the darkside.
Orange could be the equivalent of purple where instead of being a mix of blue and red, orange is a mix of yellow and red. Purple could be for guardians who use the dark side for good while orange is for sentinels who use the dark side for good. If this is the case, I'd imagine brown or bronze being the mix of green and red would serve the same purpose but for consulors.
The last several colors you mention were introduced in SWTOR along with a few others. This doesn't entirely make them cannon of course but it's where they got the idea for using them in "Fallen Order." My main character in SWTOR uses a Cyan bladed Lightsaber in her Consular/Sage Lightsaber. And my Jedi Knight/Guardian can craft the other colors after learning the "recipe" for them.
I mostly settle for a orange/ purple combo on my lightsaber in fallen order, as I think if I was to become a force user that my personal colouration would be along those lines.
Also, I don't know if this is canon either, but Seeker type lightsabers were pink, so that could tie in with the magenta ones. They also would allow their users to sense nearby life forms. Which would be nice to see back in canon if it isn't already.
I got my first saber from saberforge a month ago and I go with an Amber/ Orange blade. To me, it means "My will is Fire". It turns away from the "we are peacekeepers" Jedi mentality , and the purely violent mentality of the siths. It accepts that the lightsaber is a weapon bound to violence and that with its great power, you gotta accept all of its responsabilities.
The ultimate emotional spectrum weapon. Imagine there's a color that shows uncontrollable emotions & I think pink/magenta is love in the force/showing lots of love in those who you protect.
I can’t remember where I read it but orange represented a Jedi pacifist who would use negotiation and the force and avoided conflict at all cost. The sabre was for personal defence only. It’s a little contradictory but I do like the explanation
In the old canon, I thought sentinels were those who focused more on other pursuits rather than force use and saber use. Like learning hacking, how to be a mechanic, etc. Also believe the dark saber is a lightsaber type called a Broadsaber, however due to it's flat blade, it was deemed bad for every day use and not good for blaster bolt deflection, so much like the crossguards, it's not often used due to the lack of utility.
I can imagine a movie or series centered around how the lightsabers are made and the characters traits that produce them. - You could almost do a separate story/movie about a character or 2 that had certain traits and their quest lead to the development of their individual saber/color.
I remember in the Extended Universe books that it was literally what materials they had around them, with some chosen because they were well known to work and others being novel solutions other Jedi's didn't think of. There were also Jedi in the books who had the switches on the inside so if you weren't a force user you could never turn it on. Then others took a queue from modern camera lenses and had the ability to adjust the saber's focus on the fly to make it slightly longer or shorter mid combat. It was very much more of a technical device than the kind of mood ring the cartoons made canon.
I personally still enjoy the idea of Jedi master Yadal still having an orange light Saber. And the theory for how it came to be was that she was forced to have to live off of nature on a deathless planner will still being a padowan. So orange is The colour of a naturalist Jedi who is in tune with natures chaotic order for survival.
I think those last ones would go like this: Indigo- I’m almost a purple, but Im kinda scared of the dark side so I only use it in “emergencies”. Magenta- I’m in the dark side, but I use a tiny bit of the light side so I’m right between red and purple. Cyan- I’m right in transition to become a Jedi counselor. I’m actually surprised they missed pink. That should be for a semi-purified red saber.
I think Magenta is pretty much a stand in for pink. I like the idea of Magenta being what a Dark Jedi would get when they attune to a crystal without forcing it to bleed
I think the cyan color in Fallen Order exists because Cal’s new lightsaber is a combination of his master’s lightsaber which was blue and Cere Junda’s lightsaber because her’s was green. Blue + Green = Cyan therefore it seems pretty likely
I had an indigo blade in fallen order. I thought of it as being More attuned to force usage, but not being afraid to use Dark Sided force abilities for good, instead of Saber combat.
Fans and Star Wars canon: "A purple lightsaber means a Jedi who isn't afraid to tap into the dark side for the ultimate good" Samuel L. Jackson: "I just wanted my mother f*cking lightsaber to be purple"
Windu and Ahsoka are such awesome characters. Windu just because he’s such a badass in the animated stuff and for 1v1ing Palp. Ahsoka because she’s gone through so much, and has only become wiser and stronger.
About the Cyan lightsaber, there was one lightsaber wielder from the comics who could potentially be part of the canon known as Exar Kun, who had a Cyan kyber crystal. It might be the inspiration for the Cyan blade color in Fallen Order.
If anybody played Star wars Galaxies then you might remember the Kyber Crystals. Who else would have loved to see them as part of canon? For people that don't know, different crystals had very different effects, it wasn't determined by colour. My personal favourite was known as 'The Carrot Stick'. The crystal was found on Mustafar and was larva based. Guess what that did to people.
I'm fairly certain that's the real reason cyan crystals were reintroduced into canon. A lot of original star wars fans didn't like the newer blue color crystals and wanted the original blue, so games put cyan crystals in to make everyone happy.
I have always thought I should have green, but now that I watched this video it makes me know which lightsaber colour I should have. This video is amazing and it really helps.
Orange is always my favorite lightsaber color. And in Legends one of my favorite characters, Plo Koon, was wielding which makes it more special for me.
I always thought that the lightsaber colours were random until I watched this video which was surprising but very helpful and matched with all the jedi I have watched, so thank you for making the video.
They were random until someone made up meanings recently. Jedi had blue because it was the most common crystal they had and Sith used red because it was the easiest for them to find.
This makes me feel better. I thought I was going colourblind when watching Clone Wars and Ahsoka. I even asked a friend to confirm if her blades were white or faint yellow. And the cloudy blue.
I have a theory of the orange saber color. I like to think of it as something that is rebuilt from something broken. Earlier in fallen order, Cal said his connection to the force was not as strong as it used to be, as if his connection broke, or fractured. Now during the game, he obviously gets stronger, realizing his errors and comes to an acceptance of what has happened, therefore restoring his connection. Although it's just a theory....... *A GAME THEORRRRRRY!*
I reckon it could be whatever you wanted it to be, but I like the sound of this explanation, I would really like to get a better understanding of the orange blade, I used it in the game always
My lightsaber was always dark blue when I played Jedi as a kid. I had no idea they had meanings, it was just my favourite colour. My interpretation of it, once I figured out they had meanings, was that it similar to a blue blade, but instead of jumping straight into combat the Jedi would use stealth and the element of surprise to take out their target, like a kind if Jedi assassin.
Actually they haven't such meanings before Disney. In old canon there was more logical explanation: jedis used natural crystals from Ilum that were usually blue or green. Other colors happened when jedi used crystal from a different source. I.e. Windu had a real quest to get his own. Siths at the same time used artificial crystals and for them creator could choose color, but they've already had tradition to make them red. BTW Luke's green crystal was artificial as well, but he didn't select color as had no expirience.
I think ive heard that purple, orange, cyan, silver, and white sabers werre most often used by dark or grey jedi to sympathize the level of balance that each user had with different aspects of both sides of the force. Dark jedi mostly using purple or orange to symbolize a more aggressive connection to the living force balance whereas the grey jedi are more in touch with the cosmic force aspects of both sides and so using cyan, silver, and white.
Fanbase: purple means that he used the darkside without being evil but he somewhat has no moral but also he used the darkside to save someone but then again he used it to kill someone in order to save someone, thus beign purple, he is a mixture of good and evil, blue and red Samuel L. Jackson: I just want a purple lightsaber
The indigo lightsaber is the one I want. Since it is a mixture of blue and purple, maybe it represents a Jedi who believes in the light side, but has very strong dark side powers and is very knowledgeable of both sides which would probably make the holder a gray Jedi. That is just my opinion.
@@ItsPREPP98 even though “grey Jedi” were an invention of fans, were never canon, and quite frankly would never work within the framework of Star Wars lore as we know it? “Grey Jedi” like Qui-Gon Jin and Jolee Bindo were absolute light side users who just didn’t give a damn about the Jedi Code. No such thing as someone who can use light and dark side powers at will and with equal strength. Hell, Obi-Wan drew on his anger when fighting Maul and it made him weaker. It just doesn’t work like that.
@@danielreshef5299 Luke Skywalker in his old age was the perfect example of a gray jedi if they do exist. He believed in balance, between good and evil, between selfishness and selflessness, light and dark. This is what made him a gray jedi. He never used dark side powers but he did believe in absolute balance and not a "jedi wins, everything is balanced" or "sith wins, justice is regained". Or, think about Starkiller. Man was a Sith turned Jedi but still used the sith force powers like lightning to do good stuff.
Honestly, the theory I like for Orange Lightsabers, I thought of while playing Fallen Order. I think it would make sense if a crystal turns Orange when it's a Force User who, like Cal, had previously cut off ALL connections to the Force, before later reconnecting. Almost like a Bleeding Crystal, but in this case, I guess it would be a Crying Crystal? Anyways, we know he cut off the connections so hard that he repressed even the memories of them.
My take on the pink/magenta lightsaber, is that Jedi wielders that has a pink/magenta color prefer to talk things out than to fight and it could also be applied with the force as well and since it's a mix of red and white there those who hold in the dark side and once they can't control it they snap
8:35 the only case in which Magenta is used, to my knowledge, is in Legends, when Mara Jade, a Sith assassin, is introduced to try killing Luke. She later turned to the Jedi, married Luke, and her saber turned purple. Chances are Disney is going to explain it the same way, so it’s probably going to be “imagine purple, but from the dark side perspective.*
In Star Wars: The Force Unleashed you can unlock a black lightsaber that looks very similar to the darksaber (Black center with a white glow) but in the traditional shape of a lightsaber blade. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it, though I doubt there are any examples of it in canon.
If The Kyber Crystal Is Cracked Or "Unstable" It Could Also Fit The Look Along With The Bonus Of Having Those Wrist Guards That Kylo Had On His Theres Also A "Lava" Kyber Crystal That Can Be Found Deep In A Volcanic Planet The Light Saber Blade Will Act Like Lava But Now The Blade Will Have Weight Witch Will Make The L.S Super Heavy
Orange can also represent strength. Meaning physical strength. A lot of wookies who join the Jedi order had orange sabers. Just throwing that out there. Chewie's nephew Lobacca fpre-Disney had a orange blade.
That was Bronze, not orange. I've personally never liked that theory since there are plenty of other strong jedi that don't have a bronze lightsaber. Besides, Lowbaca wasn't dumb muscle, he was very tech savvy as well as being an expert in natural sciences. If anything, it should represent computer skills given that he made it from salvaged computer parts. He didn't even use a Kyber crystal, he used an enhancement jewel, also a salvaged computer part. For the record, Tyvokka used a yellow lightsaber, Gungi used a green one, both had a wooden hilt. The one in the High Republic Era, can't remember his name had a blue lightsaber. In legends continuity the only orange lightsaber was weilded by Yaddle, the female Yoda. It was seen to represent compassion and negotiation, a jedi who would rather avoid using their lightsaber at all cost. While many Jedi are compassionate, Yaddle took it to another level. After being imprisoned for 100 years when she escaped she helped the descendants of her jailers rebuild their society. During that time she also achieved peace and enlightenment, becoming one with the force, and upon her return was immediately granted the rank of master and given a seat on the council, despite only being a padawan when she left. She died saving Anakins life. This suggests that lightsaber colours were a spectrum, with orange being the opposite end to red.
6:42 When I suddenly noticed the Avatar music in the background. It sounds like the moment when Korra got her bending back :D Edit: **Listening more to it** Oh cool! I used the same version of it in my Sonic Forces: Avatar State of Momo the Chinchilla video :D
My headcanon on orange blades is they're similar to the purple blade in which a user is not afraid to use sith moves to win but stands firmly with the light side as a sentinel
I think Black Lightsabers, like the one created by Tarre Viszla, represents Justice. It's a mixed between Red & White. Black saber users believe in a strong sense of Justice/Retribution, willing to go to extremes without going full evil. What they do is for others, for duty, for their people, not simply for power. This fits The True Mandalorian way and cause.
I always thought Cyan was similar to White. A theory about the first saber we see in Ep.4. Which looks white/baby blue/cyan which ever you think, either way it's alot lighter than when it was Anakin's. So Obi-Wan could have lightened the color through healing the cracked or bleeding crystal, due to Anakin turning to the darkside, while keeping an eye on Luke over the years. Healing in small amounts so his force won't be detected.
My theory for cyan is that it’s what you get when you try to purify a blue saber. Indigo could be a Jedi guardian that uses some dark side but too little for it to turn full on purple.
I always saw orange as an “injured” crystal, but not necessarily an injury from a failed attempt at turning one red. As in some form for force-based trauma
Tbh I prefer the Legends version of Lightsaber Crystals. I just like the concept more of choosing your own color, instead of the crystal forcing one upon you. Also In Legends, there are different types of crystals (Ruusan, Sigil etc.) other than Kyber Crystals, that all have different abilities. Furthermore, the concept that Red Crystals require you to make them ‘bleed’ first, and that’s the only way to acquire them is so strange and off-putting to me, because it implies you HAVE to be “evil” to make/use them. I also like explanation/origin of Red Lightsaber crystals in the Legends version more, where they were mostly synthetically created by the Sith, but there were still naturally occurring ones out there, just exceedingly rare.
Indeed. The Disneyfication of everything in the SW lore is just ridiculous. The lore was very well established and they shat all over it just to try and make it their own, only cherry picking bits of the EU (and poorly, like their implementation of Thrawn and the Chiss). Didn't Adi Gallia use a red saber? How would they explain such an 'evil' person being part of the order? I'll freely admit there was some hot garbage now and again in the Legends material, but Disney's managed to take that to a whole new level by discarding the stuff that gave it real flavor.
@@iilhares Eh, Legends was all over the place. Star Wars was a huge hit so they just gave tons of people the ability to add on what they want, which led to a lot of messy story telling. Not to say EU under Disney is perfect, far from it, but people tend to look at Legends with rose tinted glasses. They were releasing tons of stories through various form sof media for near 40 years and it all still exists and is there to enjoy. I've got no problem with that getting rebooted.
I also like legends version because a light sider could use a red blade and a dark sider could use a non red blade. In canon you pretty much have to be a dark sider to use a red blade. I found it more unique when a Jedi could use a red blade and a sith could use a color other than red.
Magenta was a color crystal in SWTOR as far back as 2011/12 - it was part of a secret questline that involved having to do some busywork, and then one of the world bosses (I think it was on Belsavis). Trust me, I would know, I was the first person on my server to get it :)
I'd imagine a magenta blade means you've attempted and failed to fully purify a bleeding crystal, leaving it halfway between I'd probably have a magenta if that were the case
Purple and red are obvious. But I'd love to see the yellow/orange saber more often. White sabers were originally training ones in the original Star Wars.
I always thought that Cyan colored blades meant that the Jedi in question were more than willing to use both the force or their saber to resolve a situation. Because Jedi Consulars used green sabers and relied more on the force, and Jedi Guardians preferred saber combat to the force used a blue saber. So logically the Jedi who had no preference and used the two equally would have a Cyan colored blade as it represented both schools of thought.
@TxmDrmr The difference between the sentinel and the Jedi I described is that the sentinels also did community outreach, and their lightsabers were not handed down. Sentinels had their lightsabers handed down to them from the previous sentinel.

Cyan and orange aren't just shown in Fallen order. They made their appearance in KOTOR and KOTOR 2. No real background story on their meanings though
Maybe it's just a coloured kyber without a meaning. Although in KOTOR two there is something interesting you can get only one or the other depending on your light, or Darkside alignment.
This is surely a game mechanic but it opens up the possibility of a natural color for light, or Darkside.
@@Spiritus_Invictus Yep, love KOTOR, but sadly its not Canon so I couldn't metnion it here. I wonder how they'll handle it in the remake :)

@@StarForceOne I think I would probably be green
Let's face it, purple means ' my name is Samuel L Jackson, and I want my own unique color so I can pick myself out on screen!'
Let's face it, his insistence on having a unique color eventually led to this video. It was only blue, green and red until 2002.
You forgot the MFer at the end
@@Goblin_Hands originally it was only blue and red. green wasn't until return of the jedi, when the special effects got better.
Appreciate all the love honestly didn’t expect this to get much attention🙏
now this, would be an alternate episode i'd like to see
"What if Star Wars?" George Lucas needs to make this happen, it would be an absolutely hit.
Star Wars Theory made a video on this
It was originally portrayed as only blue and red. But when Luke's blue lightsaber wasn't showing up for the Sarlacc, they made a green one. Ofc they patched these sorts of things in the story but it's just fascinating to me that something so simple, such as the color not showing up in film, became a story arc for all Jedi.
Purple is even better, Samuel L Jackson just asked.

That's the take I like the most so far concerning orange sabers!
Yea and that is almost certainly what it is. He turned his lightsaber off in the middle of a fight against the Second Sister, which in pretty sure is considered an "illegal" move in a lightsaber dual.
I’ve heard orange is devoured completely devoted to the lightside and is often prefer peace over combat
I mean he does use the Dark Side ability of Force slowing where they can almost freeze a person or item in place
I don't really like the idea of using the dark side for good since that reminds me too much of Grey Jedi
I’ve heard that too but I heard an audio clip of Lucas working it out with the team in the early stages of the script, and says “well anakin lost his light sabre in a volcano fight with obi wan before getting burned, and reborn as Vader…
That’s the one which is given to Luke, and Luke looses his fathers sabre when he learns the truth in the last movie, so in this third one he’ll make his own lightsaber to show him becoming his own man”
- and one of the other guys goes, “that’s great! we should make it a brand new colour too.
I'd probably want a green saber. Always struck me as odd that more jedi didn't use the force more often during combat.
Agreed. Always struck me as odd also.
I mean, why engage in a lazer sword battle when you can force toss them away etc?
Nahdar Vebb was using the force excessively. Kit Fisto told him that he needs to restrain himself.
I played Fallen Order with the orange saber and it’s just felt right ever since. I’d be very happy with an orange saber

Or, going by the Extended Universe (older, now non-canon) you make it that color to show fealty to the dark side or your own personal view on the ambiguity of the force. The whole 'mood ring' nature the cartoons made canon is so cheese.
Dagan Gera also used an orange saber after bleeding a yellow saber.
I love how all the initial color variations came about because of plain and simple visual appeal, (green for Luke because it was easier to see against the blue sky background. Purple for Mace, because Sam just liked purple) then when fans screamed for there to be some kind of meaning the writers were all like “shit I guess we have to make something up now”
Thanks for the post. I never knew that.
The real meaning behind the Purple Lightsaber Color: Nobody says no to Samuel L. Jackson.

Which is one of the reasons why I chose an orange kyber crystal for him.
This is the best one
There were Fallen Jedi with orange blades. And I read about "Kohlen crystal" or "fool's kyber", which aren't real kyber crystals. They can power an orange blade but are much weaker in the force. They can be used for energy weapons or shields that can hold off lightsabers.

In the KOTOR games, there's also a cool Viridian colored crystal available as well. Probably just a game cosmetic type thing, but I would like to think it was to green what sky blue was to regular blue, in that you needed to harvest the crystal with intense focus on the cosmic force.

Cal’s blade could also be a result of a Jedi who has the attributes of someone who would end up with a yellow saber but isn’t afraid to use the dark side of the force like someone who has a purple saber.
So cool.
That's where good writing gets you.
Hahaha!

Quinlan Vos also has this power, but his is green. I love the theory though!!
The Avatar The Last Airbender theme playing while you were talking about the darksaber killed me lol 😂
Purple means that Samuel L. Jackson wanted to be able to see where his character Mace Windu was in the big jedi battle
Yeah, in the PSX game, Jedi Power Battles, Mace Windu has a blue lightsaber.
(Variations of Green have also been combat focused yes ik.)
Orange: Spy, possibly combat focused.
Pink: Guardian, usually Jedi who have a pink crystal normally atunes to their personality, this usually changes the crystal's color.
Yellow(and or Golden): Sentinel, the protectors and Temple guards normally have these.(possibly synthetic in nature.)
Purple: Badass whose dabbled with both sides of the Force.
Purple - Samuel L. Jackson asked George Lucas to give him a purple saber.
@@krisztianszabo88 yes, ik. But it also holds true that blue and red make purple, so lightside/darkside mix but preferred lightside.
What? A brown bladed lightsaber? No, thanks!
This was a really well constructed video and I learned some things I didn’t even know yet, much respect!
I mostly settle for a orange/ purple combo on my lightsaber in fallen order, as I think if I was to become a force user that my personal colouration would be along those lines.
Orange and purple are my two favorite lightsaber colors.
So the lantern rings from DC comics
Red being anger fits, yellow not so much.
Thank you for not making this a super long video getting to the point good elaboration and connecting dots I loved this appreciated
I think those last ones would go like this:
Indigo- I’m almost a purple, but Im kinda scared of the dark side so I only use it in “emergencies”.
Magenta- I’m in the dark side, but I use a tiny bit of the light side so I’m right between red and purple.
Cyan- I’m right in transition to become a Jedi counselor.
I’m actually surprised they missed pink. That should be for a semi-purified red saber.
Pink for the same reason superman is affected by pink kryptonite
@@brianindiana9375 Oh hell no! Jaja
I think Magenta is pretty much a stand in for pink. I like the idea of Magenta being what a Dark Jedi would get when they attune to a crystal without forcing it to bleed
maybe magenta is someone who is having a lot of trouble controlling themselves from falling to the dark side
That's what I was thinking when I picked Cyan for Cal.
I think the cyan color in Fallen Order exists because Cal’s new lightsaber is a combination of his master’s lightsaber which was blue and Cere Junda’s lightsaber because her’s was green. Blue + Green = Cyan therefore it seems pretty likely
But a combination of the attributes of blue and green is yellow...a sentinel that does both
Cal kestis is the only known user of the orange lightsaber.
Yaddle: Am I a joke to you?
Haha I wish we got to see her Orange saber in Canon
@@StarForceOne Holy crap you responded to my comment
When I played Jedi: Fallen Order, I totally went for orange just to truly make Cal feel unique with his lightsaber.
The Jedi Sentinels are right up my alley. A perfect balance between combat and the force.
I had an indigo blade in fallen order. I thought of it as being More attuned to force usage, but not being afraid to use Dark Sided force abilities for good, instead of Saber combat.
Fans and Star Wars canon: "A purple lightsaber means a Jedi who isn't afraid to tap into the dark side for the ultimate good"
Samuel L. Jackson: "I just wanted my mother f*cking lightsaber to be purple"
Mace Windu tapping into the dark side isn't canon. It also wouldn't change the color of his lightsaber.
Thanks for the video. Very well done and for someone that hasn't read/played any Star Wars stuff for the most part, was a helpful, quick lession.
Very glad it was helpful! I love this side of the lore
I already know the meanings before watching this video but I like yo come back to it it’s really cool
I was always partial to sunriders.
I always liked the cyan colored one in Jedi Fallen Order because it reminded me of Obi Wans/ Luke's lightsaber colors from A New Hope
I'm fairly certain that's the real reason cyan crystals were reintroduced into canon. A lot of original star wars fans didn't like the newer blue color crystals and wanted the original blue, so games put cyan crystals in to make everyone happy.
i never ever watched any star wars stuff, but damn boy yellow one looks absolute badass
I have always thought I should have green, but now that I watched this video it makes me know which lightsaber colour I should have. This video is amazing and it really helps.
Which color
Orange is always my favorite lightsaber color. And in Legends one of my favorite characters, Plo Koon, was wielding which makes it more special for me.
These are some interesting meanings of the lightsaber colors. I would pick Blue Lightsaber. He said that Jedi were guardian. Thanks, man.
Orange sabers are stunning to me. I fell in love with it after playing fallen order and I literally replay it so I can see the saber color 😩
@jaxoncrowe6966 if it was from the movies it would be.
@@Waldo_Wedgerso wrong it's funny.
Love the Avatar music in the background somehow very fitting
Fanbase: purple means that he used the darkside without being evil but he somewhat has no moral but also he used the darkside to save someone but then again he used it to kill someone in order to save someone, thus beign purple, he is a mixture of good and evil, blue and red
Samuel L.
It's getting lamed when you say "Gray Jedi"
@@Dani_Dang **sighs** only a sith talks in absolutes
Love it!
I thought you were going to miss some of the colors from the jedi fallen order game but it looks like you got them all, great job!!
Ty sm1 actually recognizes there was a magenta wielder
In Star Wars: The Force Unleashed you can unlock a black lightsaber that looks very similar to the darksaber (Black center with a white glow) but in the traditional shape of a lightsaber blade. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it, though I doubt there are any examples of it in canon.
I like Orange the most. If I build a lightsaber with that color, I want it to make it look like a fancy torch with a phoenix charm on the pommel.
If The Kyber Crystal Is Cracked Or "Unstable" It Could Also Fit The Look Along With The Bonus Of Having Those Wrist Guards That Kylo Had On His
Theres Also A "Lava" Kyber Crystal That Can Be Found Deep In A Volcanic Planet The Light Saber Blade Will Act Like Lava But Now The Blade Will Have Weight Witch Will Make The L.S Super Heavy
There are two others in Knights of the Old Republic. The "Heart of the Guardian" (a bright orange color) and "Mantle" (turquoise).
I always love the green lightsaber color, there was one jedi who wielded the cyan lightsaber and it was Meetra Surik in KOTOR (i think, idk)
It sounds like the moment when Korra got her bending back :D
Edit: **Listening more to it** Oh cool!
And in it's components has Beskar, pointed in season 2 in Mandalorian and in episode 5 in The book of Boba Fett.
Have you accepted Jesus as our Lord and savior?
My theory for cyan is that it’s what you get when you try to purify a blue saber. Indigo could be a Jedi guardian that uses some dark side but too little for it to turn full on purple.
I agree honestly.
This guy knows what's up.
I found it more unique when a Jedi could use a red blade and a sith could use a color other than red.
lightsabers went from being ordinary weapons to all this Harry Potter business
Magenta was a color crystal in SWTOR as far back as 2011/12 - it was part of a secret questline that involved having to do some busywork, and then one of the world bosses (I think it was on Belsavis).
Trust me, I would know, I was the first person on my server to get it :)
I always watch star wars shows or movies I basically thought blue was good and red was bad. I love this video thanks for showing us what they mean 🙂
Nice avatar music at 7:20 I love that song.
3:49 that’s a scary sight imagine going into a battle and 6+ red lightsabers light up 😬😬
I'd imagine a magenta blade means you've attempted and failed to fully purify a bleeding crystal, leaving it halfway between
I'd probably have a magenta if that were the case
Purple and red are obvious. But I'd love to see the yellow/orange saber more often.
White sabers were originally training ones in the original Star Wars.
I always thought that Cyan colored blades meant that the Jedi in question were more than willing to use both the force or their saber to resolve a situation. Because Jedi Consulars used green sabers and relied more on the force, and Jedi Guardians preferred saber combat to the force used a blue saber. So logically the Jedi who had no preference and used the two equally would have a Cyan colored blade as it represented both schools of thought.
But that would be a jedi sentinel, right?
@TxmDrmr The difference between the sentinel and the Jedi I described is that the sentinels also did community outreach, and their lightsabers were not handed down. Sentinels had their lightsabers handed down to them from the previous sentinel.
Cool video, thank you for sharing .
