    I would suggest that his lack of "proper training" is his greatest strength. He is not hindered by what a Jedi CAN do, his driving force is "What does he NEED to do?" The traditional way of training a Jedi would be a handicap for Cal. Not knowing where the limits are supposed to be allows Cal to keep pushing without the concern of "will this be enough?" because it has to be enough.

      Valid point. He's had no one telling him, "NO! That leads to the dark side." As a result, he seems to be able to tap into the dark side without fully giving himself over to it.
      Ironically, it's partly his attachment to Merrin that allows him to do that. She is his anchor in the light.

      I agree with this fully. In fact it's pretty reminiscent to Luke's jedi from legends as Luke believed that hard work and dedication to the force and one's training, as well as embracing one's feelings of love for others is what brought out a Jedi's full potential. Luke also didn't believe in using midichlorian counts to measure his Jedi's potential either. Something that the prequal era of Jedi also did that limited their potential.

      Its not a big deal, but you should replace your "CAN" with "SHOULD", since that's clearly what you meant in the context of the sentence.
      He isn't hindered by what a Jedi should(is supposed to) do. He does whatever he feels the situation requires.
      "Can" kinda ruins the whole statement lol, since he is most definitely utilizing everything a Jedi *can* do in order to achieve his goals.

      I can sort of see this. The sequel Jedi: Survivor is called 'Survivor' for a reason, and Cal did what he had to do to survive from the Empire this entire time. I imagine Cal would have received additional training from Cere Junda, as he does recall training and lessons from both Cere and his former master as a Padawan, Jara Tapal, but obviously that time was cut short due to the pair (Cere and Cal) going their separate ways. I think Cal certainly had to learn from his experiences, he had no choice but to adapt if he was going to survive.

    I wasn’t expecting Cal to be *this* powerful. He’s certainly unorthodox. From using irregular force powers to using equally irregular lightsaber fighting styles. Mostly self taught. Even opponents with great experience will never have faced someone as versatile as him. After fallen order, I thought Cal was a pretty strong, just about average Jedi with some unique skills. But after Survivor… he’s no joke.
    But, in the end, I adore him because he’s such a good character. And him and Merrin’s relationship is my favourite romantic relationship in Star Wars. Honestly… Merrin seems really powerful too. She certainly knows handy some handy rituals and spells. Invisibility and teleportation… Wow. We’ve rarely seen nightsister tap into all this power, except for smother Talzin herself. Maybe it has something to do with Merrin being about the only nightsister that’s left. But maybe she too has some very underrated potential in the force.

      Post Jedi Survivor we can expect that Cal and Merrins relationship will only continue to grow and develop and they are likely going to be training together in combat. In canon it’s also suggested by the Grand Inquisitor that following order 66 and the near eradication of the Jedi, the force tried balancing things out by blessing the few remaining Jedi, with a major boost in force power. Eh, I think that’s not really reliable. Ultimately we are just seeing outliers, but those outliers already were outliers. Almost any jedi can actually reach extreme danger levels, but most don’t prioritize combat. So the few that do (Kenobi/Windu/) or who posses a greater intuition to unlocking those skills, (also windu/anakin, yoda) are way ahead.
      Toss mace windu, kenobi, probably ahsoka and kit fisto, or yoda from clone wars into the same situations Cal was in, and they’d probably utterly dominate the situation.
      Most of his feats that seem impressive are aoe feats mostly useful against weak enemies, but loads of jedi don’t actually need that.

      @@firstnamelastname9237you are talking about Jedi masters, and a grand master. Who have trained and been trained to the highest standards. Cal is just a young man who has very limited younglin training. Everything else is self taught through trials and tribulations. Put cal into the same environment and then chances are he would excel over most Jedi masters.

  • @123ered
    @123ered หลายเดือนก่อน +73

    I perceive Cal as a younger human version of Yoda, someone who is at its core a force user with powerful consular like abilities but trained extensively or was exposed enough to lightsaber combat to be on par with above average duelists at the very least, given the characters he defeats. (yoda being much older however can even tackle Dooku/Sidious which is peak, but I mean you can't beat how ancient Yoda's race is really, tough Yoda's lightsaber skill is more intentional)
    As for Cal joining Luke's Jedi Order, one neat way to retcon him into it would be to put him into a position akin to Katarn's but throw him out into the wild on long term missions like scouring the galaxy for sith artifacts and holocrons, like jedi shadows used to, that might be a good way of saying "he was always there he just went unnoticed because he was out of camera" while giving an excuse to have a show with Cal and possibly Ahsoka and other new characters without having to literally rewrite cannon while still retconing it.

    • @jarmoliebrand2005
      @jarmoliebrand2005 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      I definitely think Cal has unspoken consular qualities. He often tries to seek allies in people. And it worked wonders with Merrin. It took him going on his own journey, but he realised she was just another scared and scarred survivor, like himself. Of course, he also hears force echos in her story. I think it’s telling how much faith he puts in her, though, before fighting Malicos (a Jedi master, we should remind ourselves… Cal beat a Jedi master [with help]). He literally gives her his lightsaber. He may not have been told ‘this weapon is your life’, by Obi-Wan, but certainly he’s learned similar lessons. Besides, when his crystal broke… he had no choice but run for dear life to escape Dathomir. That weapon really was his life.

    I think something else that's really important here, and I know there are many comments and someone has undoubtedly mentioned this: Cal had many journeys with both the night sister maren and Jedi Master cere Junda, who we already know has taught him things off screen, and while I know they don't show anything in relation to lightsaber training, I feel like she must have taught him a few things in relation to lightsaber technique, especially when you consider that their combat skills are largely similar; it's just that one of them is a Jedi master trained in the days of the Old Republic, when the Jedi were at the height of their power and skill, and the other is an incredibly powerful and didactic Jedi Knight.
    Super cool topic too btw; I love this game, and Star wars with a passion I cannot describe, and I'm sure everyone involved with this channel does as well, thank you so much for making this guys 😃

    A couple things to keep in mind in this analysis: 1) Most of Cal's power is amplified for gameplay and narrative reasons. 2) His lightsaber style only incorporates pieces of actual jedi training but largely consists of him filling in the gaps himself. This leaves a lot of wiggle room for one of the trickiest things to power scale in these stories, which is narrative convenience. He will only ever be as powerful as the story allows him to be; sometimes he will appear very powerful, sometimes he will appear weak and unrefined.
    The safest way to scale Cal is based on what the story has told us, which is this: Cere, as a jedi master, knighted Cal formally as a jedi knight. So I would scale him for sure as a clone-wars era jedi knight, probably well past the stage at which he would take on a padawan of his own. His survival skills and force abilities are well above average, no question. But I suspect his formal lightsaber skills are roughly par at best, with their shortcomings being made up for with creativity and sheer grit. My evidence for this: he adapted a blaster into lightsaber combat- something any average jedi would never do, nor would they typically need to. It's an admission that he needs to kill in order to boost his chances of surviving an encounter.

    • @agustinquintana3236
      @agustinquintana3236 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Take in count that even before being knighted by Cere he was fighting Taron Malicos (with Merrin's help but he could still keep well), who was a jedi master that fall into the darkside. In addition, they were fighting in Dathomir. So by default Cal should a pretty strong jedi knight to do something like that. For the second game he fights enemies that aren't average, Rayvis and Dagan Gera have pretty good statements about their power. Then, even if we just limited to what the story tell us and leave aside the gameplay he still would be a pretty powerful jedi knight or maybe in the level of a jedi master or more.

    I feel like Cal is such a wild card of a Jedi. That’s attributed to the game-ification of his character cuz he is, ya know, the player character. But I see him as kind of an experiment of a Jedi. What if a Jedi had a gun, what if a Jedi wasn’t restrained by the dogma of the Jedi code, and not taught what his master thought he needed, but he learned what he NEEDS to know to survive. It’s also a great diamond in the rough story.

    Cal is very gifted. However, in the first game he is broken and hasn’t used the force in along time and having never finished his training he wasn’t taught to hold back as much especially cuz he was being trained during war time. And after he was rediscovered he had to continue to push the limits while still reacquainting himself with the force. On the fly. Cal is also extremely adaptable and doesn’t restrict himself to one combat style as he was trained by Jaro Tapal who was proficient in all forms of lightsaber combat and then by cere who was a force to be reckoned with by herself. Jedi Survivor showed just how much he had grown in the time jump between games. And frankly they are really top notch Star Wars games in my opinion and are on par with the force unleashed in my book but that is my opinion on the matter. I know not everyone will agree with my assessment.

If you would to put classic Fantasy classes in Star Wars Obi-Wan and Cal I would put into the Rogue class, they are survivors and the most likely to walk away from the battle field alive, even if it wasn't a pretty get away and that Luck Stat is Maxed out.
