I don't understand why Butcher and Blackbird is so popular either. I made it like 20% in and I was just like no, absolutely not. Probably the worst book I read this year.
DNF'd Butcher & Blackbird. Don't even understand the point. And though I finished it, Daisy Jones & the Six now that I finally got to it was inexplicable to me. No character development, no plot, and not even the writing I loved in Malibu Rising.
Being boring is probably worse than bad 😂 Agree this year's Riley Sager novel is nowhere near his best. Murder Road is also my most disappointed, but I love the Book Troop live show roast associated with it! Other disappointments for me this year are: Graveyard Shift by M.L. Rio, The Mystery Writer by Sulari Gentill, and Shark Heart by Emily Habeck.
Riley Sager got some big publishing deal where he’s pushing a new book out annually which at first I was thrilled about, but as the quality has gone way down as the quantity has gone up… he’s swiftly gone from an auto-buy author to one of the most disappointing! No bueno!! Be better Sager !!!!! 😠😠😠😠
I was also so disappointed in Butcher & Blackbird!! I was expecting way more murder/serial killing and there were like 3 scenes of it. I'm not a dark romance reader either and figured I'd give it a try and I felt like it didn't give that at all . I've heard such bad things about Murder Road and that's so sad because I've enjoyed a handful of her other books but I will definitely be skipping Murder Road.
Most Disappointing Books for me were: 1. Midnight on Beacon Street 2. A Talent for Murder 3. The First Day of Spring 4. Looking Glass Sound 5. The Resort Worst Books: 1.) I Know What You Did Last Summer 2.) The Midnight Feast 3.) The Spare Room 4.) The House of Last Resort 5.) ManHunt
Least favs from the year: merry ever after by Tessa Bailey Lights out by Navessa Allen Middle of the night by Riley Sager These were my 1 stars, I dislike these books SO MUCH. I had some two stars this year, but none of them were as bad as these three for me!
I agree with you. I was so disappointed in Middle of the Night and Murder Road. Both were filled with a lot of plot holes which is surprising for these seasoned authors. I will still read whatever they put out, but they need to raise the bar with their next ones.
My worst read this year was The Teacher by Freida Mcfadden. So long and boring, and its supposed to be a thriller. Nothing really happened in the beginning which was disappointing. And the writer didn`t know how to write dialogue between teenagers. I read The Housemaid which was so good. So it was a let down. Expected more from her sadly :( Hopefully the next book i read by her is better
I totally agree! I read 249 books this year and I was so disappointed with Middle Of the Night! It was boring! I LOVED Murder Road though, and did a video review of it. Also loved I Need You to Read This! I loved Off The Deep End, even though it was icky! LOL I normally love Peter Swanson but I gave A Talent for Murder only 3 stars. It was disappointing! I Loved Someone In The Attic!
Middle of the Night is probably my least favorite book of the year because my expectations for it were so much higher. And yeah Murder Road was too, I think I gave it 3 stars. Two flops from two of my favorite authors 😔
I was also so disappointed with Riley Sager’s book- had potential but just fell flat. other disappointments for me were Look in the Mirror by Catherine Steadman and House of Glass by Sarah Pekkanen. I also hated the Boyfriend but it’s my own damn fault because I swore off Freida McFadden but listened to people saying it was actually good
The only book on this list that I've read is Butcher & Blackbird and I loved it. I also loved Leather & Lark. My most disappointing read was In The Miso Soup, I've had this on my list for SO long and then I finally read it and it was a pretty big let-down, everything I've heard about it is literally only 1 scene in the book. So frustrating. My least favorite book of the year though was I'm Thinking of Ending Things, it was so lackluster and boring and pointless.
Middle of the Night was SO disappointing for the exact reason you said - even my least favorite Sager books are still fun and entertaining. This one was painfully boring and repetitive.
My 3 least faves of this year were The Fury by Alex Michaelides, FantasticLand by Mike Bockoven (sorry i know you like that one), and Not In Love by Ali Hazelwood
Butcher & Blackbird was the worst book of the year for me, and I begrudgingly finished it because I paid for it on audible 😆 or else I'd have dnf'd it. I cringed the entire time.
Lock Every Door was the beginning, middle and end of my Riley Sager journey. Everything else from him was a DNF. I don't understand the hype around his books at all
my least favourite books were milkman (which I hate PASSIONATELY), what feasts at night (which was just mind-numbingly boring and disappointing because I have enjoyed the first book in the series), interesting facts about space (because I didn't care for the characters and because the depiction of depression pissed me off), kill for me kill for you (because I was bored and the ending pissed me off with the depiction of mental health disorders), under the rainbow and incidents around the house (because i was bored). but milkman definitely takes the cake for being THE WORST book of the year. I think if I had been a little more generous with my ratings this year I would have given all of these books 2 stars and only Milkman would have be given 1 star. But I'm not. I'm pissed that I haven't enjoyed THE HALF of the books that I was reading this year. Meh.
@ It was a required reading for one of my classes during my last semester of Master’s degree. If I hadn’t been forced to read it, I wouldn’t have finished it. But unfortunately I just had to read it 🥲
Here are my top 4 worst books I ever read and gabby I'm srry about the first book ima mention 😂😂 cuz I know u liked this one 1. No exit by Taylor Adam's I dnf this one I'm srry I just couldn't do it this one put mi into such a reading slump so if u like this one more power to you 😂😂I'm glad u liked it 2. Lights out by navessa Allen I dnfed this one after 7 chapters I'm srry I just couldn't do it at all this was compared to the cat and mouse duet n Butchered and blackbird so much that when I started lights out it's all I could compare it to n it kinda ruined my reading experience n plus I couldn't care less about the characters or the stalking it was just meh 3. You shouldn't have come here by Geneva rose dnfed this one bc it had more romance then thriller vibes 4. Middle of the night by Riley sager gave it two stars this one nothing happened this one for 90% of the book n when something did happen it felt flat n didn't make the book any better
Here's my picks Memnoch the devil by Anne rice book 5 in the vampire chronicles Taming 7 by chloe Walsh Some desperate glory by Emily tesh It happened one summer by tessa bailey Flying solo by linda Holmes Same time next summer by annabel Monaghan Steelstriker by marie lu Sex lies and sensibility by nikki Payne it's a modern take on sense and sensibility
All the colors of the dark was the worst book I ever read in my life yet it’s so highly rated in Amazon and Goodreads….i don’t know if I should be worried about my mind 😂😂😂😂
Middle of the Night probably isn’t the *worst* book I read this year (that dishonor goes to Ice Planet Barbarians…I don’t get the hype) but it was absolutely my most disappointing. I agree with everything you said. It almost felt like it was written by a completely different person. All the ‘twists’ were things I saw coming from ten miles away. Every single thing. Every red herring was obvious, and I swear, if his phone had received one more notification from his stupid field camera I might have ripped the book in half. It’s the first of his books I’m unhauling.
Hi Gabbi how are you happy early Saturday night to you and happy vlogmas day to you and good morning happy Saturday morning and I enjoy your channel and you are amazing supporter
I was also so disappointed with Riley Sager’s book- had potential but just fell flat. other disappointments for me were Look in the Mirror by Catherine Steadman and House of Glass by Sarah Pekkanen. Not me leaning in closer every time you move on to the next book like we’re gossiping at a cafe 😂
I thought I was the only one! lol
Hahaha I love that 😂🤭
Hahaha this is exactly how I was watching this.
I don't understand why Butcher and Blackbird is so popular either. I made it like 20% in and I was just like no, absolutely not. Probably the worst book I read this year.
immediately, yes. that riley sager was not it
Sooo unfortunate 😭😭😭
I live for gabby rants 😂🙌🏻
😂😂😂
Oh man, I feel you on Midnight on Beacon Street. I fell for that hype and what a long way down that was to fall…
DNF'd Butcher & Blackbird. Don't even understand the point. And though I finished it, Daisy Jones & the Six now that I finally got to it was inexplicable to me. No character development, no plot, and not even the writing I loved in Malibu Rising.

Love the end of year content!
Your venting about how painful the experiences were of reading these books was entertaining! 😊 No way will I read any of them, ha ha.
I was also so disappointed in Butcher & Blackbird!! I was expecting way more murder/serial killing and there were like 3 scenes of it. I'm not a dark romance reader either and figured I'd give it a try and I felt like it didn't give that at all .

I DNFed Butcher & Blackbird. I was so disappointed!
I’ve just been re-watching all your worst books videos from previous years in preparation for this, amazing timing 😁🥳
That’s amazing haha thank you!!
Midnight on Beacon Street and Murder Road were on my list as well! Both hugely disappointing 😢
Least favs from the year: merry ever after by Tessa Bailey
Lights out by Navessa Allen
Middle of the night by Riley Sager
These were my 1 stars, I dislike these books SO MUCH. I had some two stars this year, but none of them were as bad as these three for me!
For me, The Only One Left was my favorite for 2023 so I was sorely disappointed with Middle of the Night, especially the ending.
I agree with you. I was so disappointed in Middle of the Night and Murder Road. Both were filled with a lot of plot holes which is surprising for these seasoned authors. I will still read whatever they put out, but they need to raise the bar with their next ones.
Sorry to hear that Middle of the Night didn't clear the high bar set for Riley Sager - maybe next year!
Gotta say I agree with you about Middle Of The Night and Murder Road Gabby.
Yeessss! Butcher and Blackbird sucked so hard. I met the author at a book convention back in August 😬 She’s sweet. Lol
I actually enjoyed Middle of the Night🤗 .....I didn't like Someone in the attic though🗑🚮
The pasta line for expiration date 😂😂
My worst read this year was The Teacher by Freida Mcfadden. So long and boring, and its supposed to be a thriller. Nothing really happened in the beginning which was disappointing. That lip color looks stunning on you! 🔥
I couldn’t even finish Middle of the Night 😂
Thank you!!

😭😭😭
I was also disappointed with The Breakup Tour. I dnfed it
I will say that yes off the deep end has an ending I would have never expected. But I do love her books usually.
I actually enjoyed Haunt Sweet Home but i agree about the rest 😉
No but fr I had to DNF Riley Sager which was painful 😢
My 3 least faves of this year were The Fury by Alex Michaelides, FantasticLand by Mike Bockoven (sorry i know you like that one), and Not In Love by Ali Hazelwood
Expiration dates didn’t work for me either it was a bummer
Yes, totally with you on Expiration Dates!
I don't understand the hype around his books at all
Oooh I wanted to read the butcher and blackbird series but I think you just saved me time! It sounds terrible 🤣💀💀
I’m not sure if it would be your thing hahaha 😅 I thought it was so bad but idk so many people love it 😅
I haven’t read a single one of these 🥳
I completely agree about Middle of the Night 😭😭
It’s wild cuz like I agree with you, especially Someone in the attic, but I still ended up giving it 5 stars. I loved it lol
my least favourite books were milkman (which I hate PASSIONATELY), what feasts at night (which was just mind-numbingly boring and disappointing because I have enjoyed the first book in the series), interesting facts about space (because I didn't care for the characters and because the depiction of depression pissed me off), kill for me kill for you (because I was bored and the ending pissed me off with the depiction of mental health disorders), under the rainbow and incidents around the house (because i was bored). but milkman definitely takes the cake for being THE WORST book of the year. I haven’t read Milkman, but what a bummer! 😭
@ It was a required reading for one of my classes during my last semester of Master’s degree. If I hadn’t been forced to read it, I wouldn’t have finished it. But unfortunately I just had to read it 🥲
I’m more of a classic literature fan of public domain books like Dracula and Frankenstein
Here are my top 4 worst books I ever read and gabby I'm srry about the first book ima mention 😂😂 cuz I know u liked this one

My least favorite books this year were: a slow fire burning by Paula Hawkins and the echo wife by Sarah Gailey
Murder Road was disappointing
Ohh noo about the Lucenda Berry
My worst/most disappointing this year were Hidden Pictures, None of This is True, and Slenderman (by Anonymous)
It’s just Middle Of The Night for me 💀 I really would have DNFd if it wasn’t for The Book Troop
I agree Butcher and blackbird was terrible. For me Middle of the night was okay but not my favorite of his.
The Writing Retreat…. Worst book of 2024!
This video would be hours long if I made one!! It’s been a rough year 😂😂
Aww no haha 😭😭😭
The Break up Tour was so boring and fmc was awful and I disliked her all the way to the end.
All the colors of the dark was the worst book I ever read in my life yet it’s so highly rated in Amazon and Goodreads….i don’t know if I should be worried about my mind 😂😂😂😂
I ended up DNF’ing that one I thought it was really boring 😢
What Lies Beyond the Veil was the worst book this year (that I forced myself to finish). Followed by We Used to Live Here
Middle of the Night probably isn’t the *worst* book I read this year (that dishonor goes to Ice Planet Barbarians…I don’t get the hype) but it was absolutely my most disappointing. I agree with everything you said. It almost felt like it was written by a completely different person. All the ‘twists’ were things I saw coming from ten miles away. Every single thing. Every red herring was obvious, and I swear, if his phone had received one more notification from his stupid field camera I might have ripped the book in half. Hi Gabbi how are you happy early Saturday night to you and happy vlogmas day to you and good morning happy Saturday morning and I enjoy your channel and you are amazing supporter
My least fav was the measure, I couldn’t staaand it 🙄 I think it’ll make your top 👀
It definitely will be a top favorite of mine haha 🤭😅
I was also so disappointed with Riley Sager’s book- had potential but just fell flat. other disappointments for me were Look in the Mirror by Catherine Steadman and House of Glass by Sarah Pekkanen.
