In London groups of friends tend to support a variety of teams. I am a West Ham season ticket holder, my wife is Arsenal and my best man was Spurs. In the North a lot of friends/social groups will support the same team so they 'build' to the match together all week. I first start thinking about the game a couple of hours before kickoff. That said London got some massive stadiums (West Ham, Arsenal, Tottenham) and they are full every week regardless of how the teams are doing, so you still got loyal fans.

It's true that northern fans are more passionate than southern, but that's not always a good thing. As a Southampton fan, I always thought that we generally avoided relegation every year because the fans weren't as bothered and so the players played with a bit of freedom. Newcastle/Sunderland/Boro's fans cared far more and that held the team back when it comes to the key games in April/May.

All u got to do is see our away following on a mid week cup game to old Trafford when we’ve taken over 5,000 a few times in previous years.
