How To Install Downpipe On Your N55 BMW (VRSF DP on E82)

- Installing a downpipe will free up some horsepower and provide less restriction for the exhaust. After installing a downpipe you will need to install a tune such as JB4 or MHD in order to remove the Catylytic Converter fault code as well as allow the dme to understand the changes you have made. We installed this catless VRSF downpipe on a 2012 bmw 135i E82 with the N55 engine.

I didn’t take the exhaust off tho I only loosened it a bit and the downpipe came off. But great explaining. The longest part for me was jacking up the car
Super helpful, thank you. You actually don't need to drop the whole exhaust, just detatch the little bracket holding the midpipe up, which lets it drop down about 6 inches and gives enough room to work the downpipe

the e92 N55 doesn’t have a second cat to unbolt but there was enough play when you unbolt from the down pipe to get the job done.

Man, that vband was my worst enemy. Took the longest. Just for anyone else, a 13mm stubby ratchet wrench is the perfect size to loosen and tighten that vband bolt.

Whoever designed V bands deserves like 35 punches in the face but great video and helped me a lot with my Downpipe install! I used a long 13mm wrench on the v band bolt and worked great once I went and got the wrench. Struggled before as my bolt was in a bit of a different angle than this guys
You need this type of detail for the CSF intercooler that you installed
That was a great video would make it even better as if you start the engine so that we can hear the difference always do a test run after you do a DIY it makes such a success it's like watching the end of a movie and then you fall off a cliff and just say the end and you really don't give us an understanding at least it matters to me I don't know anybody agree?
Maybe I missed it on the Video. But those two large Tranny bell housing bolts holding that bracket must be replaced with new ones when released. They are aluminum one time use bolts.
for 2011 E90 335XI, I don't think you can take the down pipe out with lowering the subframe.
Your v-band is so nicely placed. Mine is at 6 o'clock with the bolt facing the engine, just above the motor mount bracket. I can't get any kind of socket or wrench on it. I can't even see it. Sucks!

I’m changing the transmission fluid to my 2004 BMW X5 4.8. Looks pretty simple, I’m doing the filter and the sleeve and the double square rubber piece under the mechatronic unit. Any insights you may have. I’m doing it this Friday. By the way, your channel is great!

I have been working on my exhaust lately and was told that I can empty my stock catalytic converter and will serve the same purpose as a downpipe.. It really didnt make any sense at first but then dug more into it and it seems pretty legit.. What differentiates a 500$ ER downpipe from an emptied Catalytic Converter? i just buy a 150 us cheap cat on ebay
Great video! Changing my e90 n55 downpipe this weekend, I heard that there are more steps for x-drive, what more would I have to do? Hopefully I’ll be doing it on a lift as-well

The N55 has a little turbo, so the turbo itself may be a bigger restriction than the stock cat and down pipe.
helixworld the B58 has a smaller turbo than the N55, can you believe that?

Those E18 bolts on the bracket to DP do these go in the trans bell housing? Should they be reinstalled without the bracket??
I'm looking at the 4" catless downpipe by VRSF for my 2014 335i, but I'm concerned that the exhaust has two inlets and I don't know if the downpipe is going to line up with the exhaust?
If I were to install the VRSF free flow catted downpipes, will there be any codes that need clearing?

I want the 535 n55 but I’m not seeing a whole lot of mods / tunes for the 5 series with the same engine as the 3. Like vrsf on their site they don’t have shit for 535 n55

Do we not need to change the two second catalysts of the N55 engine? I worked on the Mhd bubble flasher, but only the first catalyst sale from aftermarket, so I’m worried about the operation of the second catalyst.
N55 only has primary cats.

Would it pass smog emissions test since the tune turns off the check engine? If no, then how would you per say, pass with a catless downpipe?
No way you will pass smog with aftermarket parts
@@mobb5014 Its been a year and i have finally found the truth. In certain states that allow you to pass emissions with 1 or more unready monitors, you will be fine with a catless downpipe as long as you have a tune that turns off the check engine light.

Charge pipe!
For my car, it was the charge pipe and the radiator (plastic will crack on you. Happened to me ~100k miles). Both are projects you can do yourself with guidance through TH-cam vids.

@@OGYELLOW nah so i ended up taking it to a shop and had them do it for like 175 its just pretty tough. U can move forward a part of the control arm i think to give u more room i didnt know that tho before i paid someone to do it

can you turn off the check engine light without a tune?
No. You need to flash the dme to basically turn off the O2 sensors. Otherwise, the sensors will do their job and say that your cat is broken or not working
