Been there, done that! It is disheartening to miss the desired colour, but it is easily rectified. I was always taught to put the darkest colour to the lightest in small amounts. Then do a pat test (dab your finger on the edge of the colour blob and pat out) add the darker colours by eye, its the best way. From a letterpress printer/compositor of many years standing.
