Lego Optimus is a fantastic copy of G1. Building it took me back to the 1980s. Perhaps these areas could have been improved before it was released, but I think overall having a G1 transformable Prime made of Lego is an amazing feat and was the right choice.
to be honest. prime doesn't NEED a minifig (mainly because nobody cares enough, frankly most people dislike the human characters) lego and knees just don't mix very well. he would just topple over. as someone who owns two kre-o sets, that would be a bad move as both the sets I own fell apart just...existing. plus with the supply of extra parts that don't get used in the sets leads to lost bits. your issue with the back of his waist...did you try splaying his legs a click? harping on prime just seems unfair when you mention voltron and not mention the design compromises with that, you could make a video on voltron with almost all of the same talking points with that figure.
I mean, the only type of joints that could be used for knees on this figure are the LEGO ratchet joints. But if not carefully applied, they’ll stick out like a sore thumb given their shaping .
I think a minifigure could have been good By that I mean make a minifigure optimus as well to stand on the stats board If we do get a spike then that needs to be in the bumblebee set
odd how the arms are super floppy because mine are fine. I can also puff his chest without changing the wedge piece. Also I highly disagree making it a 2 in 1. yes if I want an opimus prime figure that can transform, I can buy the hasbro toy but I bought the lego one that can transform SPECIFICALLY because it is lego and can transform.
As a child I was always trying to make lego transformers, but all I could manage was parts-formers. If this set didn't transform, I would not have bought it. It's a dream come through for us 80's kids.
I grew up with the Kreo 2 in 1 sets and while they were fun the fact they were so complicated to "transform" usually meant they became scrapped pieces after building the statue part. This set feels like a first step and I whole-heartedly believe they can make more transforming LEGO sets which ive wanted for as long as I can remember, especially from LEGO instead of the many, many off-brands. Similar to the first line of Transformers being very flawed, i imagine as Hasbro and LEGO work together more and more, the sets will lose the jank and after some time, we will eventually get a "Masterpiece" style lego transformer
Can’t wait for this set to arrive! I have been a life time Lego and Transformers fan so to see them finally ‘combine’ feels like something truly special. It was a gut punch to hear you disregard the transformation as it’s always been the core of Transformers as a whole since they were Diaclones. I am all for Soundwave as a Lego set. He is as iconic a Transformer as Optimus and Megatron. To quote the Con's spymaster himself "Soundwave superior.".
“ if someone wanted a transforming toy they would have bought a transformer”. You could say that about a lot of “adult” lego sets like the globe , typewriter, etc.

Yeah like come on quit with the negatively toward the first lego transformers set. Maybe Lego will learn challenges to solve with more Lego Transformers sets skill levels.
I think itd be cool seeing all the main g1 characters (I'd definitely get a shockwave, soundwave or grimlock figure) and maybe even a few beast wars (frankly I just think a lego waspinator would be great)
I think this set’s target are Transformers fans, those who are collectors. That’s why they used the G1 design, thanks god. And I think they have succeeded, this set’s bring a lot of non lego fans to buy this very expensive set
The only CON of this is the fact he didn't have knees. The small design issues like the waist piece tabbing on to the Hip; Hip swivel; the hands; don't really turn me off the figure. Lego, especially with complex structures like Optimus, is generally a bit delicate anyway. Otherwise its a wonderful figure. A transforming Lego Figure thats something that most of the Lego sets just don't do. I would be less impressed if it didn't Transform. Anybody can build a free standing Robot with their own Lego pieces, but a Transforming one. That's something else entirely.
I agree when I first saw the release pictures of it I was thinking it just seems off. It’s cool. I like that it transforms, but it seems like it was rushed out. I’m like you it could’ve been a lot better. But it’s Lego and I know there’s limitations. Especially if they want it to transform
Solid video, but I 100% disagree on the transforming opinion. The very first thing I said when I head this was announced was "Will it be able to transform?!?!"
The fact that this transforms is nice but really not that impressive. We've had transforming toys for over 40 years at this point of so many shapes and sizes. This collectible mostly exists just to be "LEGO Optimus Prime"
I personally though it was a very nice set, the modes were very accurate to G1 Optimus and the actual transformation is exactly the same as in the cartoon. People have been making MOCs of Lego Transformers for years and there has never been such an accurate yet simple figure of a Lego Transformer. Most on the Internet are either simple but inaccurate and small/poorly designed because of its size, or theyre very accurate but have to be a lot more compact and complex (see Aranobilis98, they make amazing and accurate but very complex Bayverse Transformers). Lego was able to find a way to make it large, accurate in all 3 ways, incredibly simple to transform, and all at the cost of simple knee joints and blockiness. In fact, even THATS accurate! The original G1 Optimus was very blocky, mostly just squares and rectangles.
The set is nice but lots of quality issue on the joint , especially on the core part with the pins where the legs are connected to . After along few weeks on my shelf this has become loose and breaking when going trying to transform. Very disappointed
I don't care if you're a Lego consumer first and foremost, but if you're gonna disregard the very thing that the Transformers are known to do, then I don't know what to say.
I don’t know if I did something wrong while building my Optimus but for some reasons the arms on mine are really strong while wielding his weapons and the don’t sag down. Obviously not complaining though.
8:55 Considering the leaks earlier this week, I (respectfully) think this comment aged like milk. Bee will come in around 90 USD at 950 pieces and able to transform like Prime despite clearly being smaller and in-scale
Classic transformers toys are not very posable and have very little articulation. I also think that they'll be many more people questioning a non-transformable Optimus Prime Lego. I don't think Lego had any other choice and have to deal with the drawbacks that all classic transformers toys have. I would live a G1 Megatron but that'll probably never happen. My next pick would me Soundwave He's one of the best characters and a Lego set would be mean that it should come with some transformable cassettes.
If they make megatron I hope the fact it’s Lego can get up back the walther P38 I understand why they moved him to a tank but if he’s not a gun then he’s not G1
This could have been better designed. We all know too well how LEGO has some strange final decisions made on some of their sets before final release. Case in point with LEGO IDEAS. Too many times the original designers entry is better designed than what LEGO decides to release as the final product. It's almost to the point that LEGO just has this arrogance of how designed sets need to be. The Optimus Prime set could have had folded in tires in robot mode. They did it on the Back To The Future Delorean set. Pose ability was not factored in much. I don't see much excuse that they couldn't put bendable joints in the knees for Optimus(those saying there would be less balance, I say just put small pieces on the back of Optimuses feet since he would lean back more). If modifications by LEGO fans are better than the original design, does that say that maybe LEGO are putting in some minimal effort and still getting maximum profit? Even before the price increases, LEGO was still charging too much on sets that most definitely could have had better design on what was being paid by the consumer.
I have a fully transformable and minifig compatible Star Scream and BumbleBee and my own version of Optimus prime in a video called LEGO Transformers masterpieces on my channel. G1 accurate. They fully transform like in the cartoon.
I like that he's transformable, as opposed to being a 2-in-1 re-build. And so I'm ok with the design compromises that come with that.

Now, I will say that the compromises that exist could have been fixed if the Optimus was made at a larger scale and included more bricks, but then it would be more expensive, so take that as you will.

I would personally never buy the set if it was a 2 in 1. I love the way it is, and this is perfect.
After getting the Optimus Prime I wish I just got a regular figure.
Solid video, but I 100% disagree on the transforming opinion. The very first thing I said when I head this was announced was "Will it be able to transform?!?!"
Can you do a six episodes of Ninjago Gardens like the daily bugle I really want
this is a model meant to recreate the toy.. that transforms.. out of lego. its the point.. and its amazing..
The fact that this transforms is nice but really not that impressive. We've had transforming toys for over 40 years at this point of so many shapes and sizes. This collectible mostly exists just to be "LEGO Optimus Prime"
Ayy i noticed that jobby's not-soundwave review
Hopefully we will get a mod video for this guy, he's the first collectors kit I've gotten
Why are u mand handling this bro, it's supposed to be for display purposes, but hey you do you
I personally though it was a very nice set, the modes were very accurate to G1 Optimus and the actual transformation is exactly the same as in the cartoon.
Could you do a 10 mods video like you did with the delorean?
;)
I don't care if you're a Lego consumer first and foremost, but if you're gonna disregard the very thing that the Transformers are known to do, then I don't know what to say.
I don’t know if I did something wrong while building my Optimus but for some reasons the arms on mine are really strong while wielding his weapons and the don’t sag down. Obviously not complaining though.
Mine can sag a bit with the axe but it’s likely he just didn’t properly force the ratchets together

Considering the leaks earlier this week, I (respectfully) think this comment aged like milk.
Bee will come in around 90 USD at 950 pieces and able to transform like Prime despite clearly being smaller and in-scale
I like it fine. It transforms and it’s Lego!
Whats the music that starts at 2:35?
I’ve seen a lego optimus way smaller with better poseability and it’s as solid as an action figure
Die hard transformers fan but there's a reason why Im passing on this for now
Huh, my figure in any mode hasn't fallen apart, maybe you're not tabbing it correctly
We need mods on the transformers set
Classic transformers toys are not very posable and have very little articulation.
I also think that they'll be many more people questioning a non-transformable Optimus Prime Lego. I don't think Lego had any other choice and have to deal with the drawbacks that all classic transformers toys have.
I would live a G1 Megatron but that'll probably never happen. My next pick would me Soundwave He's one of the best characters and a Lego set would be mean that it should come with some transformable cassettes.
If they make megatron I hope the fact it’s Lego can get up back the walther P38
I understand why they moved him to a tank but if he’s not a gun then he’s not G1
Lego gotta hire Aronabillis98 to make the transformer builds
Do you plan on making mods for this set
Hmm I don't think he's supposed to be in scale with things like DeLorean or the Ecto, he feels more like in scale with normal lego scaled cars
Could you build a figure like spike or other human characters
I like this because it reminds me of the mp-01. Simple, but very effective.
Make a mods video on this
;)
There's a site that does sell the trailer.
I have a fully transformable and minifig compatible Star Scream and BumbleBee and my own version of Optimus prime in a video called LEGO Transformers masterpieces on my channel. G1 accurate. They fully transform like in the cartoon.
one of the best mech set from lego imo
9:14 YOU WATCH JOBBY THE HONG TOO?
This review is actually the samelike the common masterpiece transformers figure
Will you be doing a mods video?
I have the same problem as you because as flawed this set is I still want and love it because I love G1 Optimus
Would loved the trailer also with the kit. Hopefully they will be able down the road.
You made the axe wrong with one piece
Can you review the new Bumblebee set?
