My friend, who had very long and lovely hair, cut it short. She got a lot of “why ever did you cut off your beautiful hair?” She explained that, looking at vacation photos, she realized that in every photo her hair was pulled behind her in a pony tail. She wore a pony tail more often than not. So, in the photos, taken from the front, she really had no hair framing her face No visible hair at all. She might as well not have hair. And when it was down, it was just…long. No real “style”.
So she cut it short, with a style, and never went back.

Yes! Same with me! I've had below the shoulders styles but it never felt like a style and I also mostly wore it back. Only my short cuts have a style!

I had chest length hair in high school. My boyfriend at the time told me that he “forbad” me to cut it. Hmmm. Did I cut in a pixie cut? Yes I did. Was it a mistake in that it wasn’t my best look? Yes it was. Did I regret it? Not for a second. I didn’t have the most confidence in high school but I was really clear within myself that I was not going to let a guy tell me what I could and couldn’t do. That was in the mid 1970’s. I look back at it now and see it as taking my first true grown up steps forward. I was known as being “gutsy” after that. Thanks for unearthing that memory. You look amazing.

I grew out my pixie and cut a French bob myself. Couldn't find a stylist who knew what a French bob is. Some people are hair-focused. You could have the face of a bulldog but if you've got long hair, they think you're beautiful. I have always thought that shorter hair is classier and really emphasizes you eyes and face. So SMILE!

I was one of those middle aged women who thought longer hair was 'more youthful' until I organized my hundreds of photos taken over my lifetime. My hair was most flattering when worn in a chin length bob, whether it was wavy or straight, textured or smooth, that was my perfect length. Longer hair didn't look as good at any age, even when I was young. I couldn't deny the evidence!

Hi Diana. I only recently started watching your videos, I like them because they make me think. A month ago I decided to cut my hair to just clear my shoulders, in soft layers, with a soft perm. I can still put it up or out of my face (with the aid of a scrunchie, a modern-type of 'alice band', a clip or two, etc). Bottom line: I am very glad I made this move, because I look and feel younger, and also fresher. I also coloured it a bit darker. My daughter said: "Mm. Yes. The colour you had was like a faded orang otang". My daughter-in-law also said the new look, although not drastic, suited me much better. Thank you for your videos. they are unusual, truthful and give different points of view. I will continue following you.

Only one time in my life did I allow my fine hair to grow beyond my shoulders, and it grew slowly. I was actually into my 30s at that point. I've always been physically active, and I couldn't stand to let it hang even if I curled it (I hate hair getting in my eyes or mouth, lol). I was always tying it back and got into doing mostly a vintage French twist thing and had a nice collection of antique clips. I'd also quit coloring it and the grey was coming in, which didn't bother me a bit. Long story short, one day, in about five minutes, I cut it into a bob. Will never let my hair get longer than my chin again. These days, I keep it even shorter. I love cutting my own.

Most of them know I went through cancer, and maybe they are being kind, but it’s surprising. It is fun playing with it and trying new things. have had long, straight, dark blonde hair most of my adult life, and it’s hard to let go of that image of myself.

Looks lovely on you. I love short hair on other people. But I regret every time I get it cut short for myself. I like it for a month or two and after that want it long again. So I finally after the permed and at times short hair of the 80th, I grew it long and left it. Never looked back. I love everything about long hair. But that’s the beauty of it, we can do what we want with our hair and still love the opposite on other people.

I totally agree... i really like short hair... i have found that chin length or just above or at shoulder length is best for me. I feel youthful and spunky.. I just feel like i have that extra umphh.. I was raised in a home and church where long hair is encouraged. It is seen as more feminine. I got my first cut at 28!! I'm not going back. I'm 54. I also found that w longer hair.. it was either in a ponytail or up in a bun which i wore for years but again nothing special about that. My short hair look doesn't change much either but its the feeling attached to a shorter length. It feels empowering somehow. liberating. You are absolutely correct about divided reactions. People aren't very nice. I love it though! I relate to the ongoing cycle of letting it grow only to cut it! FUN!!! I'm a new subbie.

I've had my hair short since I was 12, I got my hair cut into a bob between cheek-length and chin length soon after my 12th birthday during summer vacation (my birthday is May 29) and I loved it so much! I instantly fell in love with everything about having short hair like this so I keep getting it cut this way. When it gets an inch or two past my chin, I get it cut to almost-chin-length again. The things most other girls hate about having short hair are things I love. I like that it kind of gets in my face and makes me turn my head a lot to see (I love my long neck and I think my neck looks best when my head is turned, as silly as that sounds). I also think my bob haircut brings out my smile better than long hair does. I like the way my face looks and ironically I think having hair that slightly hides my face from the sides draws attention to it more because people want to see it more. Some boys don't like my haircut and prefer long hair which makes me a little sad when they're boys that I like (I'm not going to grow out my hair for them though). Sometimes people are surprised that I exclusively wear skirts and dresses because there's a stereotype that girls with short hair are more tomboyish but other than my love of video games, I'm quite feminine.

I love all of this! I also love the feel of short hair and how it moves around a lot. It feels great in the breeze. In fact, I'm often just walking around thinking about how great the back of my head feels. 😄 It's true about men and their strange ideas but I think of it as a filter. If a man can't see me beyond my short hair, I wouldn't want him to see me at all! And I also find that dressing very sexy/girly with this short hair is more fun and seems less obvious. I am always in a cycle of cut and grow out, so I guess right now I'm in a grow out stage but I do love every hair style in between. It's a lot of fun to play with your hair styles. Thanks for being here! ❤

I had the opposite thing happen.Years back, I had extremely long hair for several years and just decided to for whatever reason to cut it shorter than I had had it in decades to about chin length. A woman at my office passed by me on the way to another area in the building and said, "Oh, you cut your hair..." Then she nodded really quickly and started walking away and said, "It looks better." I was like, O_O Oddly, at one point before I had cut it, the same woman had gotten mid-back length hair extensions, which was quite obvious because her hair was a fairly short bob, and she seemed to be very uncomfortable with them in, constantly rubbing her head and pulling at them.
The experience with the co-worker and the general experience of going for a dramatic cut taught me a lot (I loved it, by the way) was that the only opinion that really matters is mine. :)

I have just discovered you and came across this video, which is now over a year old. I’m so intrigued with your comment about how when you change your hair, you have to rethink your clothes and makeup. This resonates with me because when I retired from the corporate world 10 years ago, I made the decision to stop straightening my hair and to let it go naturally wavy/curly (I use a diffuser). I just didn’t see the point of going through the whole blowout process when I was now no longer in an office environment. But despite that, I’m now wondering if the disconnect for me all this time really is one of the three…my hair, my clothes, my low key makeup. Maybe I didn’t make the necessary adjustments to accommodate a completely new hairstyle look. If you have any advice, I’m all ears. (Love all your videos…so down to earth and practical information. Thank you!)

Thank you for this conversation. I got extensions two years ago to "let my hair grow" but my last removal, I lost a LOT of hair and had to cut off about 8". My hair is now nape length and I'm using clip in extensions which are much better for your hair, but I have a good two plus years ahead of me before my hair is the length I was hoping for. I'm struggling with it because I dunt like my shorter hair, but I think the problem is it's a bad cut. I appreciate you giving me a lot to think about. I'm going back to get a better cut and going to try withing with what I've got because the clip ins were supposed to be real hair but they are not and they are looking bad. I need other options and you gave them to me!

I have worn my hair short for most of my life. I have noticed in recent years that many women with long hair are constantly fussing and playing with it. My husband points them out on TV: "She's a hair tosser." Really makes them look anything but BOSS.
BTW, my short hair is not too messy in the a.m. because I use a silk or satin pillowcase.

Your hair really looks great! I did it recently too, after a couple of decades of longish hair. I loved it long, and now I love it short. I get the same responses you do- positive and negative. I probably wont let it grow long again, but who knows. Its so much easier to look after! Its fun! It feels light and bouyant, it moves on my head, it frames my face better. I can wash it every day if I want because it dried quickly. Also…at first my husband didnt want me to…I waited. After a few weeks he said- I am ready, i think it will look good on you, its time. So I did :) He loves it too.

Very timely Diana! My hair has been über short, very long and everything in between over the years. I've let my chin length bob grow out over the last 6 months and it's reached that annoying length where I get lazy with the styling and just put it in a ponytail while I hem and haw over cutting it.
I think I'll make an effort to style it daily for a week or two before reaching for the scissors!
Love that sassy, curly, spiky bob on you. It has attitude! 😁

Thank you! Yes I know exactly what you're talking about. I got tired of the in between, and I realized, wait I don't even feel like styling long hair why am I growing it out? So now it's even shorter than this video, because I wanted to feel it this short before growing back to a shoulder length bob... and it does feel GREAT! I like to experience all the styles! 😁

Naturally curly fine hair myself and forever remembered as the girl with beautiful long hair. But, I do cut it into a bob from time to time because it's an exciting change. In my 50's now yet, again rockin' long and often (stylishly) big hair. Because it's super fun! A former model as well, your videos are absolutely delightful and remind me to have fun getting dressed every day, no matter what the occasion 🥰

Suits you! And you’re having fun with the new style. I just cut mine as well; looks a bit like your 25 year ago cut. Yes! I like having fun again too. I found a good precision stylist in the nearby city. Now when I go in to keep the cuts up I plan on doing fun things afterward, like meeting a friend for a drink.❤

I have tried longer hair, but my baby fine, thin hair gets wispy. Also , I have a triangle head and face shape 😅, and cute, Chubby Cheeks! So, I have learned through experience to keep my hair about 4 inches long all over my head, and to have my permed with tiny red and yellow perm rods every 8 weeks or so. Sometimes I have my hair roller set into a bouffant, but a short , tightly permed bubble permed suits my cute little head and face shape and size ☺️

My saga is a bleach job gone really bad and I had no choice but to cut it. I started cutting it myself, lol. I then had to go to the stylist. I am not used to this hair, it's a cross between a short pixie and a mullett. I want some dimension, so I will have to wait a bit for my own color to grow out, which I like that look, and I think I'll like it in the end, tho longer. Right now I feel a bit naked and awkward, but I can't do anything about it anyway so I just take it in stride.

I cut my hair because it’s so thick it took three days to dry completely when it was long. With short hair it dries in a few hours, which is way more manageable to style.

Does it expose an aging neck, waddles, double chin, jowls etc? I know that shorter hair has been always recommended for mature aged women, but I wonder about it highlighting the parts that might be more attractive if left in the shadows of longer hair!

      @unblahyourself  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

Most of it depends on your face shape. I have a rounded face, and with short hair I look like a chipmunk! I need length personally, which totally transforms my face, even at 50. I love the look of short hair but personally I prefer long hair, as long as it's in good condition and a good colour. Your hair looks lovely!

  • @veejo9535

I love short hair, long hair, in between length or whatever. You should go with whatever either suits you or what you feel like at the time - we all make mistakes. But what I don’t like is cliche. I was told by so many women that as you get older you shouldn’t have long hair and you should dye it. So I cut my hair short and I looked, drab, awful and 20 years older. I let my hair grow back to shoulder length and it took time, but I looked and felt so much better and allowed myself to have healthy, shiny, silver hair. I loved this video and the excellent advice.
