The mets were still unsure of themselves at the trade deadline. They knew they were good, but didnt know how good. The mets went toe 2 toe with the dodgers and lost in 6 games. Having a crochet pitch 2 or 3 times in that series would have been nice. Its not that crochet wont demand a long term contract, he most likely will. I think the mets will actually want to lock crochet up to some sort of team friendly contract in the near future. At the deadline, knowing that we couldnt use crochet in the playoffs, it made less sense, plus having to give up valuable prospect capital and receiving little benefit from the crochet aquistion in 2024. Now we can use his last 2 years of arbitration to make a very reasonable long term deal with him espicially since crochet is literally making nothing and has had injury problems. No way crochet wants to try and pitch 2 more years. He should be willing to accept a very team friendly offer

Coming off of TJ. Mets need INNINGS. You have senga who will need to have his innings watched. He is going to be on an innings limit or could hit a wall. Clifford, Tong, Sproat untouchable. Mets need to be a lot closer to a player or 2 at the all star break to make this move. If you sign Pete, adames, a solid setup guy, a former closer, to go with the million low cost relievers then you are in a position to trade & give up some higher end talent, but must have untouchable players who they will not give up. Sox, As & Rays tend to ask for outrageous returns, so hopefully sterns has those & knows the players & the system much more than when he first came in. The Mets need innings & hopefully have an awareness of this & are part of their strategy. I’m sure that Steve being a $ guy needs to start with a HIGH, but a respectable amount of $ because they will be in a bidding war. It can’t be as high as your willing to go. Most importantly, Cohen has have to have a ceiling he won’t go past to hamstring the team.

They do have some very young talented players besides salas who are a few years away but the padres farm is not too special. Since evan carter and wyat langford have been promoted to the big leagues, the rangers farm system isnt special either. Yes the dodgers are always developing and restocking their farm and they may be a trade partner, but i dont think they are looking to aquire another injury prone pitcher. They have had a ton of injuries to their rotation. They are looking for more stability, unless they get crochet at a discount. There are reasons why crochet wasnt traded at the deadline. If i was you, i would hope to trade him asap before he gets hurt !! His value is high, the white sox need to capitilize on that value now. Thanks for the great opinioms

Unfortunately because of the deferred Ohtani contract, the Dodgers will pay over 600 million for Soto.
Mets can still offer more money plus other things that the dodgers cannot.
