Diehard Mets fan here, but I’d have to be delusional to think the Mets have a chance against the Dodgers or even the healthy Braves for that matter. A lot of people have unrealistic expectations. They forget the Braves finished ahead of us even though most of their best players were out for the second half of the season. Albies,Acuña, Strider, and Riley were all out for like 60-70 games at least. I’ll be happy if they get 3rd place and a wild card spot again this year. Then maybe they’ll get lucky in the postseason since anything can happen in a short series.
Dan your very fair and rational as always !! Great take ! I don't believe the mets are finished. I'm interested to see how this team looks by the trade deadline. I would guess this team will look different !!
@thomasjoseph...I think Pete will be here too...Cool Expos emoji...Ironically the METS live next door to the 1964 World's Fair Grounds and the Expos were named for Montreal's turn at the World's Fair in 1967...And the GREAT Gary Carter starred for both teams....!!
@stanfromwestport2024 Thanks, bruh. I still miss my Expos. I just can't see why Pete wouldn't want to be a part of the Mets, with such great WS title opportunities ahead.

Hey Dominant Mets Nation and Mets fans. So player acquisition: Flaherty, Pete on 4 year contract, David Robertson. My thoughts on Stearns: I want to reserve judgment until mid season to see where the Mets are before I judge Stearns. However, I’m definitely frustrated with some of his moves. My perspective is this, Mets may still need to overpay at times on certain players. That’s ok depending on the player and how he fits on the team. Case in point is the Dodgers outfielder. You are trying to build your brand under new ownership and Front Office. My other thought is Stearns just has to spend more man. If he didn’t want to sign Burns, which had a comp pick attached to it, then why go for Hernandez and forfeit a pick with him. We should have signed a bonafide Ace to solidify our rotation. Then we would go into the season with less questions. Alonso: I not enamored with Pete but he still provides power and protection. If we can get Guerrero, I’m all for it but I have a hard time thinking Toronto won’t keep him for the entire year. Let’s see what happens with Stearns. I think he has to adjust to the New York Market. He’s a New Yorker but when you leave the concrete jungle, one can forget the frenetic pace of how business is done in this city. Action, decisive decision making and some glamour. Stearns is methodical (which is ok) but a bit slow. LGM💪🏾
Not only should Stearns do something bold, but maybe even a little dastardly as well. Here's an idea: sign Pete to a 3 year deal with no opt outs, and THEN TRADE HIM as part of a huge package deal to the Blue Jays for Vlad Jr.
I could see Stearns trading for Vlad & then Cohen negotiating a long term deal with him. Hes better then Pete & on a level near Soto. He would make the Mets a much better offensive team.
Alonso & Boras are holding The Mets hostage!!!!… as I’ve said before, they need to wrap this up!!! 1. Figure out 1st base ASAP 2. Get Flaherty 3. IDK lol - win the WS 🤪 We’re on the same page.. & I do trust Sterns …btw nice to put a name to the face lol I’ve been watching MOST of your videos for a year now and never knew your name!
So you know it took the Dodgers 10 years to get their team where it is? Yet you only use the Dodgers as a comparison to criticize him? Sure, he may not have made a move that was impressive to you. But can you name a move he made that's going to hurt the team long term? 3 of the Dodgers' biggest moves were on japanese players that wanted to be on west cost... Do you want him to get the mets to move west? In his first yr the team went farther than anyone expected... Building a great team will take time. I think his the perfect balance to the owner who has the money to pay for the right player, most of big name free agent this year are player that will be out of their prime in like 2 yrs but want 5+ yr contract so im glad they didnt sign them. Also, not only did he inherit a payroll where like $80mil of it was for players not on the team but which also includes, 4 bad contracts - jeff, nimo, marte and diaz. Yet you keep acting like he should put together a wrold series team already.... im not saying you need to trust him, but be fair. To he aggressive, like the Dodgers are, will not only require money but a deep system. Dodgers know that if the overpaid player doesnt prreform they have a deep farm system that they use to trade or call up.... mets arent their yet... and they wont be either if the aggressively sign big contracts that impact their drafts and international pool money.
@yusuf....You're right...When I think back, it was Mookie Betts that started the LAD feeding frenzy...Red Sox were fools to let that happen...But, the Angels take the cake for ineptitude in letting Ohtani go to cross-town LAD...It would be like the Lakers allowing Kobe Bryant to sign with the Clippers...Or, in the real world, the idiotic NY Giants allowing Saquon Barkley to walk FOR FREE to the hated Eagles, in Division and right down I-95, and thrive as an Eagles RB, of course...!!
@@stanfromwestport2024 It helps when you have multiple owners with a lot of $. By the way, Im a Giants fan as well, it was incredibly stupid to let Barkley go, though the Giants wouldnt have made the playoffs anyway. He basically was the missing piece for the Eagles. One thing I would like to see from the team is not to struggle every single game. Every game with this team seems to be a grind. They rarely dominate. It was great to see the team make some late game comebacks, but they blew quite a few too. Or if the team scores 2 runs in the top of an inning to not give it right back in the bottom of that inning. Part of that was the pitching. They werent dominant. They got us by, but barely. The offensive problems were caused by players not coming through in clutch situations, it wasnt just Pete. Also hitting primary solo hrs. This team has the potential to be so much better then it is.
I agree to an extent. At the end of the day. This whole Alonso situation should have ended long ago. Saving the 3 or 4 mill aav each year isn't worth dragging this out. It is Frustrating in that regard and time is money as well!

At this time Baty hasnt proven hes more then a AAAA player. If you can get a useful piece for him you do it. Problem is Stearns doesnt want to let anyone go.

Don't assume Vientos would get moved to 1B. Have you listened to Winker's press conference? Mets discussd with him the possibility of playing 1B, and he is willing to do that.
The three moves: 1) Increase the deal to 3yr/$75M to Pete and get the deal done 2) Trade for Vladdy 3) Sign Flaherty and/or Profar and 4) Trade for Montgomery Your question of what has Stearns done since he joined -- the question back to you is what could he have done? He joined the team last year when the guys that makes up most of the payroll aren't even on the team. Our young guys are still developing and not ready for the majors and we had so much holes in the lineup and pitching staff. He signed bargain pieces to see how they do and if they don't work out, he quickly got rid of them and pivot to another direction. Othani and Yamamoto was not his fault because Othani was always going to the Dodgers and Yamamoto was going to follow him. I trust Stearns -- we need to be patient and let the man do his job. He's trying to incorporate youth into our main roster and avoid signing players that can potentially block them. I know he's operating like he did with the Brewers but there's nothing wrong with that because it's a proven model plus he also have Cohen's resource whenever he needs it. Another potentially bad signing the Mets almost did in 2022/2023 was Correa -- we're so lucky that 12 year contract is not on the books as the $315M can now be allocated to signing Vladdy.
Pete wont accept that deal either. He wants more $. Im on board with 2-4. The problem with 2024 was that Stearns didnt do enough. Had he made the same moves as the Dodgers we would be talking about the Mets as being WS Champs. Stearms was brought in for stability & to build up the team from within. The moves he made at the beginning of the year was to hold the players accountable. If you dont perform then youre gone. It got us further then we should have been. Stearns just kept interchanging parts until something worked.
ALSO: TIGHTLY MONITOR the Zac Gallen situation in AZ. If AZ were to fall out of contention, they might very well want to move him, because they won't be able to afford to keep both him and Corbyn Burnes. Trying to get Zac is a good shot, because I would almost be willing to bet dollars to donuts the Phillies will pursue him for sure. Philly has been quiet this offseason, and Zac comes from Southern NJ. Zac is a FA after this season.
Cohen had gone all out on soto, willing to outspend anyone, then it seems the brakes were put on the mets. They seem to be going at a slow pace , instead of being real aggresive like the dodgers. I think we will be fine in the end, but just wish stearns was a little more aggresive and build in the soto signing. The alonso situation seemed to take up s lot of the offseason!
Great rational take. I think, it is way to soon to truly judge or over react. The offseason for Stearns has not even concluded yet. ! More moves to come
It makes me wonder what approach is being used to analyze the Value of Pete Alonso? He’s got nobody to compare to! Not even Juan Soto, he has not played with the Mets, yet! Neither has Vlad Guerrero Jr…he’s still a Year or more away or none ! ! 😅 For Pete’s & Mets Sake, give Pete some Credit! He’s our Ace in the Hole or Batting lineup! 😅 FantasticoMets69…over 5 Decades a loyal Mets Fan! Let’s go Mets!
Hes overvalued himself based on what teams & the Mets are willing to pay. Pete is not as good as any of the other players who have signed within the last 2 years. His thing is hitting HRs 500 ft & its not sexy any more. Hes trending lower. He was offered several fair contracts which he turned down. If he continues hes going to talk his way out of town.
In Stearns I trust. Pete is dollar store Vlad. We're gonna get him, bregman or Profar on clearance sale. Hope Pete rakes and gets the last laugh but he bet on himself and batted .210 with RISP. He owes us a prove it year.
Stearns compliments Cohen. I would hope Pete rakes, but he cant handle the pressure. Hes now teetering on decline. I agree on the prove it year. Pete needs to earn his keep.
I LOVE your 3 players to aquire, it's a no-brainer but Stearns is killing me with this nickel and diming either Cohen doesn't have the money or Stearns is incompetent
He should not be trusted! The guy is a punk who doesn’t know baseball. He is a numbers guy, a bean counter. Get him out of here and get someone in who knows players. He doesn’t want to win, he hopes to win.
Great point, that is a major issue. 2 championships in history. Plus if your a mets, jets, and knicks fans. There is very little winning there. Fans have a right to be a bit impatient lol
Trainwreck is far too strong for a guy who took the mets to game 6 of the nlcs in his first year. I would assume that you have high expectations, but Stearns is in the beginning stages of building this team and this organization. The dodgers have been rebuilding that team and that organization for the last 10 years plus. By the trade deadline, i guarantee that this team will have made changes, if not we will certainly get on stearns
I think Stearns is betting on the new guys to take charge, Alvarez, Viento, Baty, Mauricio etc. Think about it, Vientos could be a 35-40 home run player, so why pay for Alonso. If Baty comes hitting the ball and Alvarez we don't really need anything else. Is a gamble but who knows.
I'd take Manaea over Sasaki any day of the week. He's a proven big leaguer and is coming off a great year. Also, I'd send Baty to Seattle for either Castillo or Kirby; or Marte for 1 of them.
GOoD point if $💵 wasn't deciding factor in a Team's pursuit of their guy, then ask yourself what isn't then? What makes guys willing to take # for a chance to join the D'odgers? Great U guys got "Soto," so now let's screw "the Polar Bear" bcuz we can. How's that working out for U guys thus far...? Like the Padres dumpster fire 🔥 organization stated: "We want guys that wants to be here" "HELLo!!! 😱
I believe it when I see it , don’t think Stearns would get Vladdy by trading for him . Don’t think the Mets are better than last year. How are we going to compete against the Dodgers . Steve and Sterns talk smack about putting a championship team. Only move was Soto 👍🏻, then Menea but he isn’t no top ace so hopefully he pitches the same as last season. They needed to get Burns but they didn’t went for him. So I don’t trust him because he signs mediocre players. Always into doing science projects.
I liked him, but enough is enough. I think it's time to say "Sayonara"to Polar bear. And make a deal with Blue Jays to get Vladimir Guerrero Jr then sign him for 10 years❗
I agree. I'm at the point where enough is enough with Alonso. Its not worth the time haggling over a couple mill. Lets ' Go !! We need to work on making this team a serious world series contender. We are not there
Sometimes you just have to wonder, the Dodgers are exposing him as an amateur GM, this are not the Brewers this is a big market team who rely on revenue not only from fans on the seats but from corporate sponsors , investors and big time TV contract so window shopping is not an option most of the good free agents are gone and we haven’t meet most of our goals, we definitely need to put a very good product on the field and expand our international market so we can attract more players from outside the country otherwise we’re going to allow the Dodgers to become a dynasty making it almost impossible to ever win a world series, window shopping is over by the way do not let Guerrero go to Boston.
Vlad is a pipe dream lol they not gonna trade him after they just got Santander if they don’t make the playoffs their president and gm are getting fired why would they trade Guerrero that was a rumor so the fans wouldn’t be as mad about Pete Put a package together for Castillo Get Pete back Put a package together for Louis Robert Get David Robertson for the pen
Pete had his chance to sign at a fair price & got greedy. He bet on himself & lost. So he needs to accept the consequences of his actions. Just because Soto signed at the price he did doesnt make Petes price go up. The market for 1B was set. Pete needs to accept or go to Japan because he isnt getting the kind of $ he wants here.
The New York Mets show a lot of interest to the players, but they're always coming out short to sign, David Stearns should stop being cheap and go for it . What we suppose to say Next year is another year...
Stearns is interested in everyone but don’t get it done I know it’s early in his tenure but….. he s dropping the ball the pitching is ok at best I believe his ego his ) genius) is hurting us at this time how can you sign Soto and then ignore pitching with these back end starter it’s a home
I don't Trust Stearns at all, he hasn't resigned Pete, he never even kivked the tires on Burnes, he never Bergman. The guy is a bargain shopping. I love the Signing of Winker. Minter and Manea all the rest blah, and done like Canning? Wtf
And he shouldnt sign Pete. Pete cant handle the fact that he let himself down & still wants to be majorly compensated. He already go a fair offer. Stearns wont be bullied. The team still needs to do more, that Ill concede.
He has missed out on every real chance to make this team a real contender this year he sucks he always checks in but is never serious. I DONT TRUST HIM . WAKE UP STEVE BEFORE HE DESTROYS THE METS

I've been a subscriber and viewer for a few years, and you won't be disappointed with your fellow subscribers and our skipper, so what are you waiting for? Sorry AP, back on topic. There may be an ulterior motive concerning free agency and not only the Met's hesitancy to hand out lucrative, long-term deals except Juan Soto. Boras may not be the primary reason for salary stagnation. Major League Baseball may be on the precipice of economic Armageddon with the expiration of the current collective bargaining agreement scheduled to expire on December 1, 2026. The current expenditures by clubs like the Dodgers may lead to a long work stoppage following the aforementioned date. A lockout that may see the cancellation of the 2026 season and beyond. Emerging from the rubble will be a contracted Major League that will see further rule adjustments and the MLBPA's worst fear coming to pass, a SALARY CAP. The circumstances may be out of Cohen and Stearns's hands. It's a personal theory, my comment is purely speculative, but we may be on the verge of the end of baseball as we know it unless the owners and MLBPA wake up to a grim reality. Keep up the great work and take care, everybody.
How did you feel about Steans first year. I know alot of fans were uninspired by his offseason last year, but did like the result of last season, espicially when you compare it to the 2023 dumpster fire. Thanks bud ! I'm trying to discover what is the biggest concern about sterns that longtime fans have
When we got Soto everyone thought big things were coming and these assholes did NOTHING They not gonna re vamp the team at the deadline look what he did last year he got brazoban Blackburn and winker underwhelming moves
If they do nothing the rest of the way, then the Soto pickup was a waste. Not doing enough at the deadline killed the team. Still they went further then anyone expected. Id love to see a dominant team, but Stearns isnt building the team that way. The team is going to grind everyday & that wears on the players.
Stearns has no excuse to be a penny pincher this off season. Signing Montas was a stupid move. He could have spent that money on a better pitcher. He needs to wake up.
As far as I am concerned Alonso can go play in Japan or Korea I have been a met fan sence 1962. Alonso is trying to get more money than he is worth and I am sick of it.
I don’t like the way he always waits for bargains that usually means scraps . I don’t trust him he can’t handle big market team . He didn’t sign Soto cohen did stearns will never pay that much for a player he’s a cheapskate
Stearns got LUCKY last yr. & THIS year, as of now, we have NO chance of winning our division, & would be lucky even to make the playoffs, FORGET beating the Dodgers!!!
We didnt have a chance this past year either. What killed them was not making supplemental acquisitions at the deadline like the Dodgers did. Had they made the moves the Dodgers made, they would have won the series. Tommy Edelman basically saved them.
Diehard Mets fan here, but I’d have to be delusional to think the Mets have a chance against the Dodgers or even the healthy Braves for that matter. A lot of people have unrealistic expectations.
If he continues hes going to talk his way out of town.
this is exactly the reason I can't stand Mets "fans" A bunch of whining. impatient, know it alls that don't know shit.
39 years of waiting not emough for you my guy?
@ have Stearns and Cohen been in charge in those 39 years, my guy? Pay attention! My guy.
In Stearns I trust. Pete is dollar store Vlad. We're gonna get him, bregman or Profar on clearance sale. Hope Pete rakes and gets the last laugh but he bet on himself and batted .210 with RISP. He owes us a prove it year.
Only way stearns signs anyone over a 100 mil is if cohen steps in makes the deal stearns is wimpy boy i wish cohen would let him go
Stearns compliments Cohen. I would hope Pete rakes, but he cant handle the pressure. Hes now teetering on decline. I agree on the prove it year. Pete needs to earn his keep.
In Stearns we trust!
Dodgers might have the #1 starting rotation, but the Mets could have the #1 bullpen if the will is there.
I DONT TRUST HIM
That sly smile of his says it all…
Definetly fair, stearns has to earn that trust!
I LOVE your 3 players to aquire, it's a no-brainer but Stearns is killing me with this nickel and diming either Cohen doesn't have the money or Stearns is incompetent
Thanks! I have to believe that stearns will adapt his philosophy. We can't keep losing out on players that we target
He should not be trusted! The guy is a punk who doesn’t know baseball. He is a numbers guy, a bean counter. Get him out of here and get someone in who knows players. He doesn’t want to win, he hopes to win.
His goals are “compete for a wild card”. And that’s good enough for most of these nerds. He has losing DNA. He never won a damn thing in Milwaukee
It’s been 39 years. Tired of waiting.
Great point, that is a major issue. 2 championships in history. Plus if your a mets, jets, and knicks fans. There is very little winning there. Fans have a right to be a bit impatient lol
Mets need to build bull pen if there not going to get more sp.
What has Stearns actually done? Not much, he's train wreck in my opinion.
I do agree with this. I do think our youngsters have alot of potential. I still need Stearns to become a bit more agressive
Clay Holmes is getting a shot to start this season let's not forget
I do like that
I'd take Manaea over Sasaki any day of the week. He's a proven big leaguer and is coming off a great year.
Also, I'd send Baty to Seattle for either Castillo or Kirby; or Marte for 1 of them.
Saying $ doesn’t matter isn’t being reasonable
Mets add 5 more mil to offer he would sign
Vlad is not coming here stearns will not give up his babies . Toronto is gonna resign him it’s stupid to wait on someone
Vlad is a pipe dream lol they not gonna trade him after they just got Santander if they don’t make the playoffs their president and gm are getting fired why would they trade Guerrero that was a rumor so the fans wouldn’t be as mad about Pete
Put a package together for Castillo
Get Pete back
Put a package together for Louis Robert
Get David Robertson for the pen
Wtf
All those 3 would have been long-term and overpaid . So I'm glad he didn't make those deals.

I'am a die heart met fan, But I don't trust David Stearns at all😢
How did you feel about Steans first year. I know alot of fans were uninspired by his offseason last year, but did like the result of last season, espicially when you compare it to the 2023 dumpster fire. Thanks bud ! I'm trying to discover what is the biggest concern about sterns that longtime fans have
Would you rather do business with Fred Wilpon?
I am very disappointed in this offseason with the exception of Soto !
I have to agree with you thus far. We need more. I still believe that Stearns and the Mets will make significant moves to make this team better
He only signed one guy for over 100 million in his whole career as Gm he’s a bargain hunter and that is not gonna win any World Series
My opinion exactly
David Stearns being doing this for a while a lot bad deal
lol we don’t even have a one or two in the rotation lol this rotation is a terrible job by the so called genius
He always gos after just to make Mets fan think he trying but in reality he Waite’s to long
I don’t like the way he always waits for bargains that usually means scraps . I don’t trust him he can’t handle big market team . He didn’t sign Soto cohen did stearns will never pay that much for a player he’s a cheapskate
Hell no he's cheap...
We need bats and he doesn't want to pay anybody 🤑
Nooooooo
Crochet is not elite
Hes potential. He has elite stuff.
The team we start with in 2525, will not be the team we in with. Trust in David Stearns!
The METS and PHILLIES will have something in common in 2025 season. They'll look like two AAA teams trying to dethrone the DODGERS.
NO! 🦬💩💩💩 GM
