    The “foot bath” is actually wear my grandmother washed clothes. They are not seats, it was basins to clean laundry. Beautiful video.

    Hi mark, that place where you can put your feet in the cold water, was built to do laundry in the old times. You could go there and wash and rinse your stuff, cause of course the laundy machine didn’t exist. Now it’s an attraction for tourists

    Happy you enjoyed Cefalù, just one thing, the place where people wet their feet was an ancient washing place. The women of Cefalù went there with their clothes to wash, dipped them into the cold water and rubbed them on the things you called “seats”
    😊

    Aha Mark and Ryan! So glad I caught your video :) You definitely found the most wonderful place to stay in (just outside?) of Cefalu. That hotel is divine to look down upon the ocean, and from the ocean back up to the hotel, a vision of paradise both ways :) The shopping, the local foot cooling baths... but ah the dinner! You have it all, so glad to see you happy and tanned :)

    I would like to correct something in that video, small things.
    From Palermo to Cefalù, is possible don't pay highway A19, (in the video is only 1 euro maybe... but you could don't pay this just if you go out in A19 in Buonfornello junction and following to straight to Cefalù direction.
    Another small thing.
    I am from a village a 30 min to Cefalù in the Madonie park and Mountain, where is the highest mountain (after Etna, Etna volcan) in Sicily 1987 msl Pizzo Carbonara.
    That village name is Polizzi Generosa, Federico II in the year 1200 gave Generosa name (gentle) bcs for the rich farm of area in that time and really is a quiet cool and rich of history and church, monument and no busy turistic place, but cultural and slow naturalistic tourism.
    Ok Cefalù Is very close and of course is fantastic and historical, magic city.....
    The place where there was could water to wash your foot, before was a place to wash dress with fresh water, and the stone was used to wring out clothes.
    Thanks for watching the nice place of Sicily, i loved this video!

    I could not disagree more about not to stay in town. We were driving around with our rental last week and parked in a private parking space that costed us 17 Euros for 17 hours and was just about 10 Minutes away from the historic town. We had a full apartment with an extra room in the middle of the old town which was super nice and it did cost us onl 100 Euros per night. The host of Mandralisca was super nice and there where umbrellas available to take to the beach.

    • @EuroTrotter
      @EuroTrotter  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Allison Roorda I’m 6’1 and had no issues plus the seats can always lower. Also, you can work with the rental car agency when you’re there to ask for a car that would be best in the class rented for taller people, won’t be an issue! Hertz is great by the way!

    I’m traveling to Sicily in august, I was wondering if you would tell me if it was hard to drive over there? A lot of people recommended to not rent a car when I’m gonna stay in Taormina for few nights, how was it for you?

    • @EuroTrotter
      @EuroTrotter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was easy as long as your not trying to stay in the historic center of any towns, stay down the mountain in Mazzaro.

      @@EuroTrotter We stayed in the medieval part of town and we drove from the mainland and took the ferry. We parked in the football field for free. A little walk, but was well worth being one street away from the ocean. I recommend climbing La Rocca, the temple, the history, THE VIEW! Stunning. We were there in 2019 in early June. It was hot, but pleasant.

    What is the best choice to rent a car in Sicily, and what is the price range?

    • @EuroTrotter
      @EuroTrotter  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      We rented through Fox Rental Car at Palermo Airport, which is actually "Rent In Sicilia" and it was great, but I also used Hertz on the rest of the trip and they were great! The cost for 6 days was around $400 which included insurance.

    When italians suggest not to eat the pizza with fork and knife, they dont actually mean they want you ti rip your pizza with hands.
    You just cut slices (guess how, with fork and knife), THEN you use your hands to eat the thing, just like a classic new York slice. You totally misunderstood, they mean the dont want to bring pizza pieces in your mouth with the fork. Simple as that. We are not barbarians, we just dont like our pizza to be precut.
    The only exceptions are pizza delivered at home (but they usually ask before if u want It in slices), or gourmet pizza, where usually you have very fancy toppings, and It make sense having all the toppings in each slice/bite.
    In a classic pizzeria restaurant, they never, ever, cut your pizza. Its like an insult.
