    Cefalu might just be my favourite place ever. 😍 We fell in love with the little streets and rustic beauty. We left Cefalu 5 days ago, and soo wanna go back. The end of September has less tourists, and leaves the area unspoilt. We’re in Taormina right now, which is jaw droppingly beautiful, but from 11 am til 4pm the amount of tourists pack the place out.
    I agree, that in these small towns though, it’s restaurant after restaurant of the same menu.. we’re almost 10 days in, and i don’t know what food im craving, but it’s definitely something different (which isn’t available). Happy travelling guys

    "Ciao Anna & Trevor, Grazie Mille, Thank You for extending my Sicilian Holiday🙏🌞😍 I visited La Bella Sicilia for the very first time, on my own without my children, and I was right in the heart of Cefalu three weeks ago and like you, fell in love with the beautiful, historical city. I also avoided the crowded beach and decided to stroll around the streets, alleys, and the Piazza; i even ended up witnessing an amazing Sicilian wedding at the Duomo you just visited🥰❤
    I stayed 7 km outside of the town, up the hills, at a beautiful agriturismo and can recommend you to do the same. 7 acres of land, 200 olive trees, lemon trees, starry nights and pure silence and most importantly, very sweet hosts making everyone feel welcomed!
    Go visit mountain village of Polina, high up in a natural park. And go back down to a small town called Finale (plenty of space at their beaches).
    And please do visit a real pearl of a small gem called "Castellammare del Golfo": authentic, a scenic harbour, two beaches, pebbled town centre with fresh fruit & food & artisan market, and catch a boat to visit some stunning "Cala's and Spaggia's, like Scopello.
    I guess now in September it is less crowded everywhere so you can easily find a spot on a beach.
    All accommodation I stayed was under €90 incl delicious breakfast. The Best about Sicily: The Sicilians😍❣😍 Such Sweet and Kind inhabitants, very friendly and caring everywhere you go.
    Wishing you both lots of happy, adventurous days on this Bella Isola called SICILY (please avoid calling it Italy, as this is really one of its kind, and anotomous region) and looking forward to seeing the rest of your stories. Arriverderci!"💚🤍❤

      Sounds like you're having an incredible time Belinda 🤙 We may have been there at the same time who knows. We also saw a wedding. Sicily is amazing but we are curious... Why not call it Italy? It is Italy after all. We'd genuinely like to know what you mean as to us it's like saying don't call the 'Maritimes' (in Canada) ... Canada - Trevor

    • @chiasm8994
      @chiasm8994 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@DelightfulTravellers it’s complicated. It’s an identity factor stemming largely from history and from insularity. In Sicily we have the blood of multiple, diverse, peoples: Sicels, Sicani, Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Arabic, Suevian, Norman, French, Spanish and, lastly, Italian. The island is the largest region in Italy and is deeply layered culturally and artistically (take the Arab-Norman style in architecture: it is something you can’t find anywhere else in Italy; or the differences between Eastern and Western Sicily, even artistically: hard to believe that Ragusa and Trapani belong to the same region) and, as a consequence, at an identity level. We are talking about millennia of history, peoples, and influences (even Sicilian literature has so much to say about “Sicilianity”, especially Sicilian literature of 1900s) and that involves everything that happened before and after Italian Unity in 1861. Therefore, obviously, you can’t make a comparison with the Maritimes islands in Canada. I myself was born and raised in Sicily and I perceive myself as Italian, of course, but first and foremost I’m Sicilian.

    I really enjoyed this video, thank you 👍. Cefalù is beautiful, you gave me a chance of "visiting" it, as although I'm from Sicily I've never been there. Cefalù would be a good place where to live, IMO another one would be Portopalo in the province of Siracusa. Not to worry, from September all of Italians return to their jobs and normal activities resume and everything is back to normal. August is the month when tourists can have the cities all for themselves because everything is closed and the locals go to the beaches or the mountains, therefore you chose a good month for being in Palermo. I hope Catania hasn't been too busy, as it can be as busy as Palermo. Plus, at minute 8:00 of the you were close to the Alleway of Anna's Brothers (Vicolo Fratelli D'Anna) 😀 Obviously, in this case D'Anna is a surname, but it means that (of Anna). Looking forward to the next video.

    Just got back today. Great town and beach visually. But water quality... looks fantastic, but walk along the back of the beach and it's rancid, stagnant water and potentially sewage? All those buildings and the ancient sewage system surely means it goes in one direction... down to the sea? The other side of the wall - definitely sewage outlets and what with the tidal range and stillness of the water, yeah I'm not so sure. I did swim in it and and it's lovely and warm, but I'd like to know what they do with the sewage from the town. Other than that a great place.

    Please, please, don’t go to Sicily in July and, especially, August. These months truly don’t do her justice and, besides the island and the beaches being teemed with people, you risk missing out the authenticity of the island. And don’t forget to get to know the Sicilian islands (Aeolian, Aegadian, Ustica, Lampedusa, Linosa, Pantelleria…all unique and different from each other) and the sea is something to die for -and to be explored by renting a boat, otherwise you’ll be missing out on so much-. Don’t overlook the area of Syracuse as well and jewels like Pantalica, Cavagrande di Cassibile, Cava Carosello in Noto and much more. Even a month probably wouldn’t be enough for Sicily.
