I knew the general ideas but the details of how they apply to beards was really good food for thought! This will help many DIY beard trimming dudes. Your consistency with valuable, knowledgeable, and passionate content is remarkable Dan. I hope you realize that 🤝 and realize how much we all appreciate it. It’s easy to take for granted something/someone that is consistent, but we see you!
My wife and I reside in the "both" camp. Glad you pointed out the difference. As I've mentioned befire,my wife grooms dogs and uses clippers only. When trimming my beard, we'll use clippers for bulk and trimmer for cheeks, ,neck and back line.
Been cutting my hair and my 3 kids hair for about 4 years now, started with cheap clipper from Walmart, then upgraded to a trimmer and clipper from TPOB and have been rocking those for a couple years now. I can't imagine not having both, for all the reasons you mentioned. Anyone not wanting to spend a bunch, TPOB are a great budget friendly option that is a name brand vs the knockoff Amazon brands.
I DID have a lightbulb moment! I'm not the brightest bulb, though . . . I appreciate learning about the differences between clippers and trimmers. I'm one of those guys who probably just need a trimmer. Gonna go with a Babyliss, too!
Pleasantly surprised to know you Michiganders and other Midwesterners use the word ‘pop’. Back here in (Old) England, I used to hear the same term growing up. It doesn’t seem to be as common as it once was, but may still be in Northern England. I’m from the south so hear ‘fizzy drink’ and ‘soft drink’ an awful lot.
Ty Dan C makes a lot of sense, cause if use clippers for transparency trim my ends don’t seem as smooth as when I see you use a trimmer. I’m in the hunt for a new set of trimmers and have only been using clippers. Thank you for all your expertise.
I've said this in another video you posted about trimming your own beard. I just don't have the confidence to do it myself. Every 3rd or 4th haircut I get my barber cleans up and trims where I ask him to. Thankfully he knows what he's doing.
I pretty much only use scissors to trim my beard. Have had a lot of oops moments using clippers, I feel like I have a lot more control using scissors, and I don’t have trimmers. My beard is typically from 4-5” but now that I’m growing longer, I might look into trimmers for when I will need to transparency trims.
I use the Brio Beardscape for many years now. For me by far the best for trimming and lining up my beard. Regular blade for trimming and a zero blade for the line ups. 🤙🏻
@@DanCBearded I had different trimmers and clippers. From Wahl to Babyliss and everything in between. But I like the fact that with Brio I can just switch the blades if I have to and just use the same product and don’t have to buy different clippers/trimmers anymore. Also I feel like Brio is more precise/sharper and I can change the RPM while trimming.
I been owning clippers and edgers I don’t call it a trimmer for many years I have been cutting my own hair and my friends and families including my kids for over 33 years my favorite are Andis T outliner or edger but can’t live without shape ups I love my straight razor as well 🧡 great video
This is very interesting, thank you! I've just been using the same clippers I cut my head hair with and on my cheeks, I always struggle to get the cut as close as I want when getting rid of those odd hairs and under my neck line, I can just never get the accuracy I want for the smoothest shape possible. So, maybe a trimmer is what I actually need. Thanks again, my friend 🙏
Honestly did not know the difference. I knew there was a difference because some machines are for edging and others for actually trim... but I just learned something. I use a clipper and I don't have a brand I just like the ones that are great for face and body in case I need to look presentable down there for the Mrs.
I have both, brand new in the box that I bought a year ago after watching Scuba do a beard trim making it look all easy and stuff. Still haven't gotten the go nads to attempt it 😂
@DanCBearded you sure do! My problem is, everything is reversed in mirror and I have some dyslexia. Then I get the trimmers to my face and start shaking. One of these days, I'm gonna just go for it 😁
Interesting. Great video, Dan. I did not know. I have a Beard Club beard “trimmer”. It comes with guards and has an adjustable blade, so I guess it fits the definition of a “clipper” better 🤷♂️? Works good, but it’s sitting in drawer now as I grow things out. For the cheek lines I’ve been using a straight razor 👌.
This video has dropped at a perfect time as I've been wondering, in relation to trimming off the transparency of a longer beard, what's the general consensus on taking the beard in one hand between your fingers and just doing a single straight scissor cut? This generally isn't covered so is that because it's frowned upon, too risky to get the right cut, trimming is preferred for better control? My current instrument of choice is the Brio Beardscape, as recommended off the back of some of your older videos! But a trimmer has crossed my mind for the lower end cuts.
Honestly I thought the difference between them was semantics or maybe a regional thing, lol. I had no idea, but I’m not a barber, and what I cut I usually shave on my head and a use a cordless clipper w/o a guard to trim transparency. My first self beard trim was with the biggest guard I had and it was like starting over
As someone who has used a blade, a trimmer and clippers, mainly to shave my head for over 20 years... I'd simply be lost without my trimmer... The other 2 i could happily never use again and not feel hard done by...
Thank you, Dan, great explanation. I can't find the link to the clippers. I don't think you put it in the description. By the way, the beardscape 2 so far, I use them a few times and I think they are garbage. But I will give it a few more tries.

However, there is no quality comparison to the babyliss fx line. You feel the difference immediately while holding the tools
@@DanCBearded Yes, I know what you mean. I love my cordless Senior clippers, You really feel the difference in the motor, power and the quality. But for short beards they takes off too much .
Great vid this will def help a lot of people. Have Babyliss is my favorite, also have brio V2 which I like for bottom trims as well. Also wahl magic clippers are beasts lifetime no questions replacement. Also not a barber and just personal experience 🍻🍻🍻
I need to upgrade my trimmers game it sounds like. I use the “clippers” for most everting, but I let my barber line me up, and I think he uses trimmers.
I have some knock off babyliss clipper I got off Amazon. Good reviews for it. I have my wife do my head hair with those. For my beard I have a beardscape along with the zero blade that I use. I try to do all that myself so my wife can have the extra money 💰 for her hair coloring this and that she does. Love the stormtrooper color pattern on those clippers though. 🔥
I can totally see the benefits of both. Honestly also used the terms interchangeably until recently. I feel like I get exactly what I need with the OG Beardscape and the Zero Blade attachment for finer details like the cheek line. One of the best purchases I’ve made, and amazing for the price. I would like to see what the higher end clippers and trimmers have to offer one day!

Great video dan so how often should I clean the lines if I'm growing my beard out??

Both is certainly ideal!

Thanks for the feedback!
i used to have clippers as a one stop shop, but i eventually got a trimmer and it's much better for the quick cleanups around the edges.
For sure! Especially with the situations you mentioned
Started with a less expensive Braun, now I use the more expensive Brio Beardscape with a zero blade and it covers all my needs. Love the channel.
Love the journey!
Great info Dan, starting out a few years ago I had no idea about the benefits of each. Having a longer beard trimmers definitely work better for me.
Awesome to hear JakeN

It’s not even a thought for us, it’s “pop”. Just like chewing GUM, it’s soda POP
Super helpful video Dan! Thanks for the breakdown of the two tools.
Glad it was helpful!
Glad you did this video. I was doing research and you addressed all my questions. I use a trimmer today

Nice job. Please do Scissors/Shears vs Trimmer. And maybe Shaping vs Trimming?
Love those suggestions, thanks Leo!

I’ve used trimmers for almost everything for years, so I agree with the closer cut since I buzz my balding head with it.

Yeah, don’t do the hand grab. You are bringing hairs of different lengths to a central point. I highly recommend checking out my trimming videos 🤝
@@DanCBearded Appreciate the response, scissors are safely tucked away! Big love from the UK 🇬🇧
Do you know what would be the best for head hair to get it down for shaving with a straight edge
Trimmer, for sure! Or look until a foil shaver. I have a babyliss matching one of those as well. Sooo easy and smooth
