Started growing my beard out for the first time ever a couple months back and was shocked at how much it fills in with a little length. I can definitely attest that even if you don't think your facial hair is thick enough for a full beard, as I didn't, just give it a shot and you might be surprised.
I can’t believe I made it in this video (second guy), what a surprise! Thank you so much 🙏 Nice way to end the year! (though I did just trim it haha) 😁 🧔
@@Drivenwithambition Thanks a lot man! I have some beard videos up, though no diet ones (though maybe I'll make one?) Basically I wash it with beard wash every few days and apply beard balm daily, and I use a round brush and sometimes a heat comb for styling. I always rinse it a bit at night. My diet well.. I usually have something like an apple, bagel and things like this for breakfast, and I'll have a snack not long after: protein bars and stuff..and for dinner I'll usually have chicken with lettuce and broccoli and often rice, then ice cream (the healthier kind), some trail mix, and maybe some pita bread or some throw-in-the-oven pizza 😂
We need more of these videos! Berzinksy is not only a gentleman and obvious beard expert but these videos, in short inspire and really, in a sense, reward the viewer with a real profound confidence! That’s wonderful. I myself am one month in and have a patchy beard. I am just letting the beard go and embracing it. I’m growing the beard for the role of Saint Nick and have a year to do so, bring it on!
I've tried growing my beard for months and it was slow as shiiit . After trimming a couple times since I realized that my beard is actually growing and filling in it was just hidden under my slow growth. My mustache is not my greatest asset as it takes ages to grow but it's getting there. My chin grows thick as hell while my cheeks are on the lighter side. I think if I go 3 months without touching my beard it will look pretty good. Moral of the story? Just keep growing the beard!
I’ve always needed to have a clean shave for my job, but the appearance policy just changed and we are allowed to have facial hair! I’m super stoked and plan to grow a full beard for the first time in my life. I was a little discouraged after a couple of weeks but after watching this video I now know that I need to give it a few months to fill in. Thanks for the advice!

Just discovered this channel. Greg you are some great and emphatic beard therapist. Feels so comfortable listening to your speech. Greetings from Germany
It truly is your own unique identity. I'm 20, and I really can't grow much. I have a decent mustache and wierdly a lot of hairs on my cheeks. It looks full when I keep it between 1-3 days, but after that it looks VERY patchy. So I just keep the mustache and stubble and it looks good on me. Hopefully later my beard can become thicker later on
When I was in my early 20’s I really couldn’t grow much of a beard at all. When I hit 27years it really filled in pretty good. I’m have a patchy beard anyways but sometimes it takes longer for other people to grow facial hair like in my case. Just give it time and you’ll be alright. Good luck.
Same man I'm also 20 and once It gets to a certain length it looks thin and patchy. And I can't get the spots between my cheeks and goatee to fill in. So I end up with it long on the cheeks and goatee and it thin between them
Awesome video and I was the same way, until I just let it go one day when I was around 34. Found out I could grow an awesome beard even with patches and thin spots. Now I do an annual beard (start in the fall and take it through March generally) and love it! I just find its fun to regrown it out each year, shape it differently - just have fun with it.
As someone who can easily grow a thick goatee but has very thin and patchy cheeks, I appreciate this video. I’ve never taken the chance but this will motivate me to get through the 3 months to see what happens!
You showing your patches is what made me first try to grow my beard out. I shaved for the final time on the first of January 2020. Just a couple more days and my yeard journey will be complete 🎉 thank you Greg
im 20 and have been able to grow a full thick mustache and goatee since i was 17. But the rest of my facial hair has always been slow, patchy, and faint. Im finally letting it grow in and I'm looking forward to seeing how it is by the time I'm 21.
Im also 20 and letting it grow. I have the same problem with it being faint and growing slow. I've finally got some length but it is thin and curls up a ton. And still have spots between the cheeks and goatee
I'm 33 now and when I was 20 I didnt have nearly as many hair follicles as I do now,nor were the hairs as thick and dense, I used to shave almost every day in my early twentys, now my hair grows in so fast with no patches. Alot of it is patience and genetics
Video idea: have men who are currently growing out there beards for no longer than 3 months and have them submit pictures. By their pictures, you can judge their potential, help them identify strong points and give tips to grow their beard to the full potential. I'll be the first to submit!
@@verybigkittens7550 From personal experience, some hair just grows in later. Patches can fill in with hairs that you never knew where there. Like the video says, just give it a chance.
From my own personal experience.... if you are standing in bathroom in front of a mirror and thinking "my beard is thin"... go outside on natural light and have someone take a picture of you. You will be surprised in a good way.

@@gm2407 I would say try not to trim anything besides the neck and cheek lines. Instead comb it down often, more often then not this will give the illusion of a relatively even beard. You can also use balm to keep it down and even if necessary. There is no point in trimming the bigger hairs because honestly hair grows at different lengths everywhere. It just needs time for it all to come together.
@@MaSsiVeGaming1 Kept it going the goat and tash are doing well. The side burns are a bit sparse but I am percevering. There is a gap on the left between the bottom of the burn and goat, but on the right it is fuller. Hopefully will get a good look out of it. I am not trimming any more. Have done enough to shape the goat. I comb that down and then forward and it works well. The scruffy in between growing phase didnt stop me getting my current job so that is a bonus.
@@gm2407 Keep going bro. Don't get discouraged. I have some problems on the right side of my face, some random tiny gaps or patches. But the more you grow it and shape around the better you can manage it. It takes time, but the most important is to keep pushing through.
I’m 39 and have always thought I couldn’t grow a beard. My brother (who has a great beard) convinced me to just let it grow. So I am on my beard journey now. I’m 1 1/2 months in. It still looks weak and patchy on the sides but I’m not giving up. I’m going to see where this journey takes me. I’m so excited!!!!
I feel like as long as you have great moustache coverage, it doesn’t really matter how sparse the rest is. My moustache sucks so the rest of my facial hair looks like crap when I grow it out lol
Thank you so much, this couldn't have come at a better time! So I've always wanted to grow a beard but was discouraged until recently. My growth pattern looks somewhat like your last example's, Ken, maybe even a bit denser than his. But I've got these bald-ish spots on both cheeks, and while rocking a closely-cropped goatee for most of my adult life I never found the "faith" to let my full beard grow out. Through the miracle that is the TH-cam algorithm I discovered your channel a few weeks ago and started watching avidly. While at first intimidated by some of those thickets, after a while I started looking at those hairlines and I realized, "I can do that!" My original hair colour is a dark brown. Now I'm 51, and while the hair on my head is still mostly dark, my beard is about as grey as yours and Ken's, though more mottled in different, err, shades of grey. Which means that not only has the contrast between my beard and skin greatly diminished but also the different shades of grey hide the difference in density. I've been at it for maybe 2 weeks now and I've had my doubts every now and then. I got me some beard care products, and I even got one of those beard growth enhancement sets containing a needle-tip roller, because why not. Whatever it will or won't do for me, at the very least I enjoy the "wellness factor" of giving my beard some care. And now this video has given me all the confidence I need to see it through. Without your channel I probably wouldn't have started my journey. So in a very real sense you're responsible for making one of my lifelong heart wishes come true, right on time for Christmas, no less, and for that I thank you most sincerely. A very merry Christmas to whoever reads this. Should the madness that has taken hold of the world ever allow for me to visit the US of A I'll make it a point to visit your shop. Take care!
Im glad you put Ken at age 61 in there. I'm 60 and I'm trying to grow a beard. For the first time, I haven't shaved it off after two weeks. I'm a slower grower anyway and I'm about a month in and it's patchy as were the beards in this video. I'm going to let it go about 4 months and see the progress.

@@driespolinder214 now its 2 month, and its starting to be very long on moustache and goatie side mostly, but still on the cheeks seems like a hard spot. Apart from his majestic beard, Berzinski's voice is so calming and relaxed. So much so, I almost believe that my weak right/left jawline growth (which I'm pretty much close to shaving off) might actually become a respectable beard some day.
Let it go and let it grow! Great advice! It wasn't till the third month till i really started to like my beard! It filled in in spots that showed skin. Now my beard has fill out and the unrealized potential came through and it's full and has great coverage!
The most I left my beard was a month and looked patchy and hairs going to different directions, I finally left it for 3 months and I can't stop looking at myself lol
I have a pretty patchy beard when it's trimmed short, a lot of my volume comes from along the lower jaw and around the goatee with a pretty thin cheek line. I also have fairly straight beard hair which doesn't help in disguising patches. When I let my beard grow at least 3 months, though, I can get a pretty good full beard. I'll never be able to rock the tight cheek line, but I prefer a more natural look anyway. I'm 35 and each time I grow my beard out it looks better than before. My biggest tip is that if you have some patchy areas or relatively straight hair, DO NOT TRIM AT ALL while growing out. I'm talking about neck beard, etc. Don't touch it, you need to see what it will do and where your strengths are with some time. I made the mistake of trimming far too early and frequently and things always looked lopsided or thin, but currently on about 4 months growth and it's never looked better. All I've trimmed are central mustache hairs, stragglers on the cheeks, and stragglers on the neck, leaving the rest of it alone.
Man, Dries has had the same thing going I do right now (I'm also at approximately the same stage as his before picture) - good thing I swore to myself to not touch a razor or any other trimming / shortening implement for at least six months (to prevent rash decisions) - even if I don't get to where these gents are, at least I'll know for sure what I'm working with.

This is so motivational! Never grew beyond 35ish days, cos I think way cheeks are way too sparse. No patches though, but less than half the amount of hair I have in the Van Dyke area (my profile pic has insane lighting lol) 2 weeks in now and I hope I can resist shaving anytime soon
I noticed a huge improvement in beard growth after I started taking biotin supplements daily. I take 10,000 IU 1-2 times/day. My problems are due to uneven rate of growth probably due to prescription pharmaceuticals and unbalanced hormones. Both groups of problems can be corrected naturally. Genetics shows the men in my family have full coverage. Yet I'm currently patchy. Not as much as I used to be though.
2:59 - 3:13 - Exactly. Before I started watching these videos and growing my quarantine beard, 9 months ago, I took it as generally-accepted fact that those areas were patterns, much like a hairline is, where some people have a straight-across hairline, while some a widows peak, etc. It’s only in watching beard videos, while I’ve been growing my beard, that I’ve heard anyone even referring to that as being patchy or even being a patch. (Which technically it is a patch but...) Ok, I’m starting to detour, but you get what I’m saying.
Great video, I just got out of the Army and first thing I'm doing is growing a beard. Im at day 12 and it's starting to look OK. I've got a good patch underneath my chin and my neck with very sparse hairs, then some patches under my bottom lip. This video is very motivating! I'm not gonna give up now!
I am a week in growing out my beard and I have one annoying circle patch on the left side of my cheek, close to my chin. I am so tempted to shave and go back to my usual full goaty style but this video has encouraged me to push on. I hope that bloody patch closes up... Face masks are gonna help me out right now too. 😁
My beard is patchy and scraggly but I'm not going to give up.... keep the dream alive fellas. The part that saddens me is that I've been growing mine for wayyyy too long for it not to look better smh but I don't care if it takes 2 years I'm letting it go hahaha I'm married with a kid anyway who am I trying to impress

Recently 18, been trying for a beard since august while it’s filled in quite a bit over 2020. My cheeks are a bit sparse still, hope it fills in through 2021.
i just grew my beard and moustache out fully for the first time ever this year. i love how my moustache is not connected to the beard, it makes for a perfect floating handlebar. i'd have been rockin a handlebar moustache for 20 years if i had given it the time to grow back when.
I definitely have a passion beard, but I've never hid it. I don't care if we'll talk crap on it, really it's not super bad where it's actually you can't really see, but I just can't grow hair on my cheeks and it never really gets longer than about an inch. But I started boiling, using butters and selves, and I started my derma rolling and minoxidil journey.
I didnt think I could grow a beard. and when I was about 31 I decided to give it a go and did the year of the beard, and it cam in well, and I figured out I have a good stash to handlebar. I did shave it down because my baby boy kept trying to pull it out and my wife didn't like it. Im growing it out again since I have long hair and my wife seems to be likeing the 3 month look, and I miss my long beard.
When i started growing my beard, for the first 2 ish months i was horrified of my face. I kep thinking that it looked awful. I started growing it 4 months into the pandemic. I stayed inside barely going out for the next 6 months i barely went out since i lost my job but had enough money saved up to wait for things to settle down before returning to work. I show up at work and every guy there told me i had a sick beard, then the female coworkers started complimenting my beard and i realized that i have a very nice beard. I went to my barbershop which i hadn't visited in over 5 months and all the barbers there wanted to be the ones to trim my beard and make it presentable. I told them i only wanted to clean the edges a little bit to not look like a bum, because i want to let it grow for 1 year and then il decide if i keep growing longer. All the barbers there told me i should let it grow longer because its growing very well. I might have gone a little overboard with the money spent on stuff at the beginning, but i wanted every advantage i could get lol. Oils, balms, butters, you name it lol
My grandpa has had a beard since he was 18, he has never used product before and barely gets it trimmed, completely full. I hope we have the same beard genes 🤞.
Greg I would like to thank you because you are the reason that I decided to grow my beard out. When I found out that you had patchy spots in alot of the spot I do I thought if you can get a beard that looks so full so could I
Cheers Berzinsky you have restored some faith, mines is the exact same as dries just now, would it be a bad idea to trim it down in the growing stages? i still like to shave a line to keep it as tidy as possible but when its starting to make me look homeless i trim it down to a number 1 on the clippers. do i need to just leave it altogether??
I haven’t had a patchy beard since I was about 16/17 and even then it was still enough to have a pretty decent beard. Ever since then I’ve been able to look like ZZ Top lol but I’m 31 now am I’m just now starting to let it grow really long. Wasn’t planned lol I just let it happen. Sure is fun but a pain in the ass to maintain.

@@Drivenwithambition Thanks a lot man! I have some beard videos up, though no diet ones (though maybe I'll make one?)
Basically I wash it with beard wash every few days and apply beard balm daily, and I use a round brush and sometimes a heat comb for styling.

No employer can enforce a facial hair compliance mandate. That’s asking for a discrimination lawsuit.
Seriously, some people need a beard for religious purposes. There’s no way that’s enforceable.

Thanks for the encouragement! Blessings from the Netherlands.
As someone who can easily grow a thick goatee but has very thin and patchy cheeks, I appreciate this video. I’ve never taken the chance but this will motivate me to get through the 3 months to see what happens!

how did it turn out?
You showing your patches is what made me first try to grow my beard out. I shaved for the final time on the first of January 2020. Just a couple more days and my yeard journey will be complete 🎉 thank you Greg
Did you trim the sides or cheek lines? I started my yeard in November and my Scottish sideburns are sticking straight out lol
@@HooDRidEWhiteY I did not. Other than touching up the mustache a few times, I left it to grow completely natural.
@@Raool1014 good on you Sir!!
Is your profile pic current? That’s gotta take more than 2 years to grow.
im 20 and have been able to grow a full thick mustache and goatee since i was 17.

I'v let my facial hair grow for almost a year and I still have patches and I'm 33, iv just learned to deal with it and love what I got cause if I shave I looks like im 15 all over again.
The thing that drives me crazy is most guys who want a full beard, but also cut it constantly. Be patient. I waited 6 months before I cut anything. Now I dont cut at all.
@Attox That is true. Lucky some of us don’t have to worry about that 😁
Surely you got to trim and manage the faster growing bits foe the rest to catch up and bring it in even?
Dont give up👍🙏i am on the same Journey👍
I feel like as long as you have great moustache coverage, it doesn’t really matter how sparse the rest is. My moustache sucks so the rest of my facial hair looks like crap when I grow it out lol
Same here man
You could sport a pencil thin moustache. You'd look like a 1950's detective.
While at first intimidated by some of those thickets, after a while I started looking at those hairlines and I realized, "I can do that!"
My original hair colour is a dark brown.
Thanks for showing my pictures in your video!!
Filled out nicely, dude.
dries, can i ask you was that you really, and u didnt use any "product" to let them grow? I have your same beard, im 21, and i always cut it at about 3/4 weeks cause its not good looking. Should i keep waiting??
@@sharkpowah My advice would be ,just let it grow. And yes that's me both pictures and I didn't use any products than a beardbalm
@@driespolinder214 now its 2 month, and its starting to be very long on moustache and goatie side mostly, but still on the cheeks seems like a hard spot. I will wait up to 4 months, but can i ask you how was your beard at 21? I feel like i still have some "childish" beard, very soft and typical of teenagers ones. Is it possible that the beard will be harder by age? how did it work for you? sorry if i ask too many questions! hahaha
@@sharkpowah I do not really remember my beard at 21, that's a long time ago😅 but I think my beard fills in better when the years passed. Good luck with your beard👊🏻 and be patience😅
Apart from his majestic beard, Berzinski's voice is so calming and relaxed. So much so, I almost believe that my weak right/left jawline growth (which I'm pretty much close to shaving off) might actually become a respectable beard some day.
I've never tried to grow my beard for more than 1 month, but this encouraged me to grow it for a few months, maybe even a year if it goes well!
Let it go and let it grow! Great advice! It wasn't till the third month till i really started to like my beard! It filled in in spots that showed skin. Now my beard has fill out and the unrealized potential came through and it's full and has great coverage!
I appreciate this video very much. Im 12 days in and my facial hair looks alot like the dries guy, this gave me a lot of hope.
Same here, never gone beyond 12 weeks before shaving. How is your journey going?
@@MindyerownBusiness-s4d sadly lost the beard due to severe dandruff and other very itchy issues, my body seems to be fundamentally opposed to any concentration of hair on it.
Hadn’t seen my cousin for a year, I’d grown a reasonable beard. He said ‘ wish I could grow one, I have big patches’ proceeded to point to an area I was very familiar with..... half way along the jaw line, a nice patch of bare skin 🙄 (thanks genetics) the look of amazement when i brushed my beard up and exposed two great big bald patches haha I’ve been able to master hiding these patches so well that I and no one else for that matter can see any trace of a patch. It’s the small wins in life 😊..... proud owner of a patchy, but not patchy beard.
This is so motivational! Never grew beyond 35ish days, cos I think way cheeks are way too sparse. No patches though, but less than half the amount of hair I have in the Van Dyke area (my profile pic has insane lighting lol)
2 weeks in now and I hope I can resist shaving anytime soon
(Which technically it is a patch but...)
Ok, I’m starting to detour, but you get what I’m saying.

I did shave it down because my baby boy kept trying to pull it out and my wife didn't like it. Im growing it out again since I have long hair and my wife seems to be likeing the 3 month look, and I miss my long beard.
You have to give the beard at least 4 months . Don't quit!
You are such a wonderful person for doing this❤️
When i started growing my beard, for the first 2 ish months i was horrified of my face.
