Thanks so much for all the great info. Finding a good cleaner has been one of my biggest challenges for my single 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom childhood home STR. I currently live 3000 KMs away and have had my sister doing my cleanings with her friend. She does a fabulous job and I trust her with this, however, she is a seasonal worker and her first and real job is very busy during the May- Sep period and cannot do the cleanings when needed. I have tried 2 other cleaners and had less than positive reviews. One, a lady I have been acquainted with most of my life, was reliable, there on time and readily available but ended up not doing a great cleaning job. The other one, my niece, did a good (not great) job usually but was not reliable to do the cleaning when needed. It has been a very stressful situation. I am still searching for a reliable and excellent cleaner in my small hometown. It is not an easy task, especially when I don't have someone to do an after cleaning inspection. 😢

Thank you for sharing-managing an STR from such a distance is no small feat! Finding reliable cleaners can be tough, especially in smaller towns. Asking cleaners to send time-stamped photos or videos after each turnover might help ensure quality. Don’t give up-networking locally or with other STR hosts could help you find the right fit!
Have you posted an inspector positions to try and find someone, maybe you could fill this role to help with keeping everyone accountable?

would like a template of the cleaning checklist to start with and modify for my property. Do you have this to share?

How do you know how much to pay? Per hour? Ask around other STR hosts in the area?

I would go per clean. Usually your STR cleaner can give you an estimate and test run to get the pricing right. Absolutely ask in local groups and do a little research on a reasonable rate in your area! It also helps to clean the property fully yourself to see how long it should realistically takes so you can make sure you're confident in the pricing.
