“I was kind of in a weird spot when we made that record,” Simpson told Zane Lowe of Apple Music’s Beats 1. “I wasn’t sure if I wanted to do this anymore because a lot of the business sides of things, and like some heartbreak and betrayal, and just learning things that you already know … It is a dirty toxic industry. And I wanted to express a lot of that.” Sound and Fury was recorded at a motor inn in Waterford, Michigan, northwest of Detroit. “I was listening to a lot of hip-hop, and Black Sabbath, and the Cars, and old funk records and things,” he told Lowe. “We were in Detroit while we were making the record, and I was sort of writing it in real time and listening to a lot of Eminem. And I was just like, ‘Man, this guy gets to talk mad shit. How come we can’t do that?’ So I just sat down and wrote a bunch of mad shit talking songs about how fucking awesome we are. And then we recorded it.” - SS

Lol! .....yeah....hi idk? Who that is really, but I'm kind of a nerd and I just wanted to say maybe? your already know this? Or maybe? u are implying it? , but I read somewhere once that there's actually scientific research that backs up what your saying, there's evidence that proves that individuals that kinda rebel and turn inwards , or reject the status quo tend to become or tend to be extremely creative , which usually = " talent " they kinda go hand in hand with each other. You sound like you knew that already, but if you didn't ? Vwala ! There u go, there actually "might" be his key to the talent, that you speak of? Idk? I just thought it was interesting u mentioned that, and then I thought about what I read it, long long time ago, so yeah......
It may be a shock to those who have loved Sturgill for his Rock-a-Billy origins, or even the psychadelic overtures in his last two albums, but this artist has something to say with this ear worm of a drive and I am all the happier for it. You are my only one
Compromise is made out of peace
But history is made out of violence
After the war of words has ceased
All that's left is the deafening silence
I can't go on living alone now that you're gone
You done me wrong so here's your song
Now sing along baby
I know you konw that you're killing me
But it's worth it just to see you smile
Tell em' to carve my name in the barstool baby
You know I'm gonna be here a while
A single strand of spider's weave
Just dancing in the sun
Please don't turn around and leave
You are my only one
I can't go on living alone now that you're gone
You done me wrong so here's your song
Now sing along

You're a true MVP. Thanks for that.
Thanks Jeremy, this song thrills and chills me to the bone
thought this was an edgy comment at first, nope, just the lyrics.
2:02 "I know you know that you're killing me. But it's worth it just to see you smile" That's a great line.

And I wanted to express a lot of that.”
Sound and Fury was recorded at a motor inn in Waterford, Michigan, northwest of Detroit.
And then we recorded it.” - SS
cannot thumbs up this hard enough.
I'd be mighty impressed if you made up all these details. "Motor Inn outside Detroit. "
Me and my friends always called it Watertucky. I hope this is true.
Thank you for this excerpt
Thank you! This song & the video actually moved me in an unexpected way. I never even heard of them until I clicked this video. Cool backstory of how the album came together.
The lyrics of this song are right up there with Shakespeare. Pure poetry.
Where’s lyrics?
I’m going to take a stab in the dark and say sturgill doesn’t care about geńres or opinion . Serious talent
Lol! .....yeah....hi idk?

Hopefully an 20 something person will hear "Sing Along", and trace back through to "High Top Mountain" and connect the dots, because ALL the dots matter to me.
Damn straight - and I'm along for the ride no matter where it goes
@@ascientist3659 it isn't selling out, it's progressing.
This popped up on my feed, no idea how or why, but I’m digging it. Even if I have no clue what I’m watching/listening to
Believe it or not, this is from a Netflix movie called Sound and Fury.
1:45 That's a definite KO to the suspension and probably a twisted frame to boot
To be fair, the car is made of two robots.

Mad props to sturgill and the animation studios involved for assembling this impressive audiovisual journey!!! Such a unique experience
I'm over here listening on repeat grooving so hard to this and A Good Look and I'm amazed at how this has gotten me to physically move while listening more than anything has for years.
Sturgill can do no wrong, regardless of genre. Make art, not friends...
But is it art, or just Artificial
@@ascientist3659 this animation was garbage I thought. A wanna be heavy metal that wasn't near as good. Further, SS is about as country as Elton John.
Oh shit boys! What do we have here? A Country Music elitist? Guess what dude? You really shouldn’t compare The Sturg to Luke Bryan. Just because Sturg decided to incorporate elements of other genres into his music doesn’t make him a “hipster sellout.” It’s called expanding your horizons. It’s called not doing the same derivative shit over and over and over.
God forbid a country music art expand their fucking sound! Saying Sturgill isn’t Country is like saying Between The Buried and Me aren’t Metal because they used elements of swing music.
This is a twelve-bar blues.
“Compromise is made out of peace but history is made out of violence” is one of the best lines ever written! Sturgill is king!
I never knew who Sturgill Simpson was until "Sound and Fury". I don't know how to describe it but this song and every other ones felt like a masterpiece to me. Congrats to the man for choosing to take part into this.
0:42 Where do I recognize this from?
Edit: Skimmed through the Drill Dozer and Chicken Invaders soundtracks, and found nothing. It was this exact riff, perhaps a tinge faster. Could've possibly been from a flash game.
Always changing it up, I have a ton of respect for this dude and his band. Can't wait to hear more.
The Japanese have combined Sturgill, Knight Rider & Heavy Metal. Well played, Japanese. Well played.
Yeah the Heavy Metal influence (the 80s animated movie for those that don't know) is strong. Mad Max meets HM.
There's some Snow Crash in there as well.
They have names
@@taylordiclemente5163 Damn man. You're right. Sorry I didn't include a cited bibliography and full rolling credits with my comment. How inconsiderate.
Such a lit coordination between music and video.
This song - hell the entire album - is an incredible departure from Sturgill's other work. I love the Sound & Fury album and the anime. Hands down the best rock album of the year, probably the past 5 years.
Got to see all of Sound & Fury,,, so good, so cool, so Heavy Metal. If they would have floated a locknar in each scene I would have thought it was part of the movie I forgot.
The way this song starts out is just captivating to me. I love this whole album and I think I have a new fav artist
I love how you can see her anger when she gets out of the car, by the way she begins to grab the glass with the tips of her fingers, such a subtle detail
I heard 45 seconds of this song and that's all it took to sell me on it and the series it sprung from. There is nothing finer in this great wide unholy world than the incredible mix of country-western, heartbroken blues, and electronica all in one song. God DAYUM BOI
Lets just call it - The Gospil of Sturg !!!!!
I would rather call this "Space trucker" than future country
Who called this country?
@@hex_metal_barbie4 It's Country. Just a subgenre of it.
Country means jack shit these days. Its all pop music. Sturgill makes what he likes if it fits a genre its just by chance

Callback to US troops in Vietnam would be my guess.
This is the most daring chance taken by any music artist since the 80's-90's, most other things are just copies.
Sturgill ABSOLUTELY nailed it!!

Great song and video, absolutely. But 'most daring chance taken by any music artist since the '80's-90's'...? Are you serious?
For sure
Not sure which slaps more: the song or the awesome animation
No way of telling exactly what type of music this is is what makes this style so well-done.
It's a twelve-bar blues.
Exquisite ......
This album only has 1 downside: it has only 10 songs!!! WHY?? We need more!
Still essential Sturgill lyrical content and composer with new sonic qualities! Making us East Ky Natives proud!
He is, indeed, making all Ky. natives proud, or at least all that have active brain cells!
Perfect potential for a Borderlands intro song. I'm gonna make this my intro song for a DnD campaign, just you wait.
Edit 2021: Can't wait for the Bunkers and Badasses ruleset to come out, this is absolutely perfect. Time for a devious story!
Edit 2023: Used this song for my B&B x D&D campaign and it has been everybody's favorite campaign in our D&D group. We come back to this song often.
