It's so rare for me to play an entire album with a lot of mainstream music, but I'm glad I can truly say that this is one of the few albums I enjoyed every single song! 😆
I saw him in Knoxville. It blew my mind that people were getting up and leaving the show. Don't get me wrong, Tyler Childers is incredible, but I wanted to hear Sturgill. I like everything he has done. Seems like people freaked out a bit when he did something different. Dude has incredible talent!!!!
I don't even care that sturgill sings country, this entire album is ROCK N ROLL! Plain & simple.
In early 2020 despite the setbacks I started making enough money to finally spend without risk. That spring, I bought enough AV crap to build a screening room. Big tv, speakers, the works. I sat down and set it all up. Took a few hours. Once it was ready to go I opened Netflix. I discovered and watched Sound and Fury for the first time. I sat there through the whole thing just in awe. Huge screen and loud speakers filling a room that’s not remotely large enough for what I bought. When the final 30 secs of this song played, I cried. His message combined with the work I put in to what I knew was a vanity expenditure was overwhelming. I haven’t made any purchase nearly that vain, since. In fact, I picked a local food bank and just started dumping money into it. The callback to remember to breathe set me off. I was doing too much for myself. I still have my screening room, but I don’t cry when I sit in there.
A vanity expenditure would be a floor-to-ceiling painting of yourself sitting on piles on cash.
You built a theater room that brings you joy and you are trying help others, if we were friends I’d tell you to cut yourself some slack, coming up hard doesn’t mean that it’ll stay that way.
Go sit in that awesome theater room and watch this again, I’ll watch it on my fairly modest mid-screen and we both will enjoy the hell out of ourselves.
To all those bitching about production quality...it's SUPPOSED TO SOUND LIKE THAT.

I have had a lifetime of the darkest metal, punk, and industrial music. But I swear to whatever you got that is the first album of my life that has actually made me want to gleefully ignite the world ablaze, then lounge with a cold beer in its mountains of ash on a folding lawn chair, sitting next to an AM radio playing only Donna Summer, surrounded by charred cadavers and bright pink lawn flamingos.

Might be the best comment on here. So often, you see artists trying to be heavy, and it just seems increasingly ridiculous. Sturgill’s stuff is all deep and heavy in a way that can’t be faked. He has an intensity that’s almost frightening, because he’s in step with the zeitgeist, as you said. If you listen to the album while watching the anime film, and you watch all the symbolism and words in the background, it’s very obvious that this album isn’t just about his frustration with the music industry.
The guy is very in tune with some deep human truths, and those are often a lot more terrifying than people usually want to admit. But they’ve always been motivation for great art...
I'm Soo happy I'm not the only one with this exact mindset with this epic fucking. I blast this in my mustang all the time and pretend I'm just a drifter on the road in a post apocalyptic time.and yes it's a V8 so it's a real stag. And the fastest horse in town.

Seeing Tool a week from today in Memphis and this is by far my most listened to album since I gave F.I a break. So many similarities. Both those albums are what you get when you take a genius and let him/them do whatever they want. No stupid record label boundaries or expectations just a blank canvas

Sturgill broke the matrix. The greats all mixed into one. ZZ Top. Kyuss. Monster Magnet. This is definition of desert rock.
The first album in a decade that actually compelled me to go out and buy a physical copy of it.
This song is redonkulous. So badass. The synth coming in after 6:18 puts it over the top!
The only thing I didn’t like about Sound and Fury was that I couldn’t get my headphones turned up louder.

Exactly my point. I thought I was done with breaking stuff. After a night of 7 ipas I picked a chair up and smashed it on the table. I did that in protest of my pisspoor AirPods when I came back around to fastest horse in town. Even cleaning up the table and 3 chairs felt good. I never liked Duncan Phyfe style anyway, unless it’s smashed.
Got a tough one for ya: Which song did you prefer most specifically through headphones? For myself I would say Remember to Breathe cause of that bass line. I REALLY want to put that to the test in my car if I can find my aux cable.

Listened today for a second time this album, i had a little bit of hesitation since the first time i listened/viewed was on Netflix and i thought i wouldn't like it because of the lack of the video part. Man the sound on its own is amazing, made me appreciate it even more, i think i'm going to see it a second time on Netflix (just like Love, death, robots). My hat is off, to this artist's talent...

Saw Sturgill backstage at 2015 banaroo! loved him then and love him now! Him and Tyler Childers (saw him at The Gorge in 2016) are some of the best live acts i've ever seen.

Just found this album today! Been listening to Sturgill since Metamodern Sounds, and this album has completely blown me way!
So I discovered this on Netflix. I was a country DJ for over 20 years (before Sturgil's time). I have heard none of his music except what's on this album. WOW! I can't wait to hear his other stuff.... but this is gonna have to simmer into my brain several more times. DAYUM!!!
I clicked on sound & fury on Netflix thinking it was a story linear anime. So fucking pleased it was a giant music video! What an awesome project!

THIS is just too cool... not a country listener, but this is pretty cool awesome. Sturgill has have a beautiful awesome voice and creativity, regardless, but have to say this is FUN! AND ROCKIN. ROOUURRRUUHHHRRR! So "Tool" took a bit, and found the sound that NO ONE HAS!

This album is a great variety of different styles of music strung together beautifully into a great masterpiece. It goes together with the animation perfectly. Don't let the big record companies dampen your creativity, not like I really have to tell you that though. You seem to have a good handle on that. I look forward to hearing more from you!
