Though last year I had a few moments where some of my fingers could move a little.. so I’m so hopeful that you can make some exercises that can regain that movement and hopefully even more 😇🙏 thanks in advance! Hi Dr. Tobias, I'm just discovering your tutorials to help my husband with his Spasticity issues. I want to say thank you for providing instructions that I can use to help (or have him do by himself). He's had two strokes that affect his left side and vascular surgery on his left groin area. So now he's experiencing tightness from the surgery and the build up of scar tissue for lack of use along with spasticity. He's exercise 5 days a week that works on his lower leg (some hip movements) and with exercises I think that he'll get better. Thanks you again!

      @rehabhqofficial  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for sharing your husband's story! Unfortunately surgeries after a stroke (although extremely necessary) do create some issues with stroke recovery. He is lucky to have you to help him. A physical therapist can also help with that scar tissue so hopefully he is still working with one :)

    Severe neck pain in a stroke patient how can it be cured?

  • @sigridomeara5658
    @sigridomeara5658 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    my stroke was about a year ago now and because I do have a very weak left arm I am wearing a functional orthesis for securing the shoulder joint, its called a neuro-lux II and even though it has helped a lot since I have had no pain, I find my muscles are becoming really tight so that I find a lot of the stretches impossible to do now, especially the overhead ones and am experiencing a lot of the problems you are mentioning. What I would really like to know should I be wearing this orthesis all the time ? I have also recently purchased the Saebo stim go which i saw on one of your videos for shoulder subluxuation and am hoping that will help . Any advice.? I love the videos and have learned so much since starting to watch them. And the different ideas how to make up different exercise equipment un some of your most recent videos was fantastic too.

    I hv this problem - every time I yawn my affected elbow and hand will flexed inwards involuntarily. How can I train my brain to relearn that such action is incorrect or unnecessary.?

    • @rehabhqofficial
      @rehabhqofficial  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      for the wrist and hand I recommend a good splint to prevent involuntary movement. Work with a local orthotist for this. The elbow is hard (as a splint to keep the elbow straight is not practical during the day. For this, keep stretching to keep those muscles from getting stiff. Stiffness will make this "involuntary movement" worse. The more elastic the muscle, the less it will do this. I hope this helps.

      wall push ups for a subluxation is not as good as this video: th-cam.com/video/nhoXP5ueC2Y/w-d-xo.html. In the "wall push up position" gravity will make it hard to prevent further subluxation (the arm is in a position to "drop down" out of the socket). I hope this helps.

    • @DamilolaMalomo
      @DamilolaMalomo 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The way I see it, most persons feel some degree of tightness when they wake in the morning and we often start by stretching. In the case of a stroke, it's harder to stretch by voluntary moving your muscles. Uch easier mo:ing around. As your control gets better. It's easier to stretch out to start the day

    Hi Doctor,
    I don't know whether my comment is useful or not but I really need help on this!
    Since 2 months i'm unable to lift equal weights with both hands,got x-ray done but there was nothing in the report,earlier when the problem started i wasn't even to lift even 7.5kgs but after that i followed complete precautions and started doing proper warmup before any exercise, gradually i was able to lift 10-12.5kg dumbbells with both hand but still i feel some discomfort in my left hand, yesterday got it checked with a physiotherapist and according to him that there is some upper limb nerve entrapment in muscles, caused or unrelated to a probable mild scoliotic curve in my spine.
    p.s :- the doctor has asked me to do a spine x-ray to know the cause of the issue and said if there is still nothing found in x-ray then ncb will be needed.

    Merry Christmas Dr. Tobias !
    I am very happy that I have found your channel and pray that it is discovered by everyone in need of the caliber of rehab expertise you offer here. God bless you abundantly and make you a blessing to all suffering from various painful ailments.
    Dr. I have MS since 1999 And last July I turned 50 : I stayed fairly healthy by God's grace over the years.
    Dr. I'm confused by what I was told by my physical therapist is called TONE that is a Force pulling me backwards to better explain this - - when my caregivers or anyone helping me stand they feel I'm " resisting" them.

      @rehabhqofficial  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mark! Thank you for the kind words and for the excellent question. There are many reasons this happens. "Tone" is one reason caregivers may feel you are resisting them but it requires a lot more investigation to get to the root cause of this one. Sorry I could not be more helpful.

    I've been using an arm trough on my walker. I feel that I should be using my hand on the walker but it is to weak. I did try a brace on the walker but my hand curls up into a fist after awhile. So I went back to the trough. My arm is not ready and my elbow is slightly bent. When I try to straighten it the spasticity causes my hand to curl into a fist. It felt so right to hold my walker with the right hand to, but then the spasticity takes over and I have to go back to the trough. I don't want to give up though. It felt right using the walker with my right hand, that's the big disappointment for me.

      Thank you for watching and for sharing your story! I LOVE that you want to use your hand on the walker. You are correct, this is definitely more natural and really allows you to incorporate that arm in a functional activity. Here is a splint that might help amzn.to/39sV14l. This will stop the hand from rolling and from "balling up". If are elbow still bends put in elbow immobilizer on like this: amzn.to/3jCGWWN This is a knee immobilizer because I like something longer or else the arm tends to bend. You just have to move the velcro so that it can fit a smaller circumference (the arm). :) I hope that helps!

      @@rehabhqofficial Thank you. I want to use my hand as much as possible. My arm is still straight but I have noticed it doesn't hang as straight as it should now.
