  • MOTORCYCLE ROAD POSITIONING MASTERCLASS A LEARNERS GUIDE ON HOW TO READ THE ROAD, WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR AND ULTIMATELY HOW TO SURVIVE ON YOUR MOTORBIKE.
    #THERIDERGUIDER #DEFENSIVERIDINGTIPS #MOTORBIKESAFETY
ROAD POSITIONING ENCOMPASSES EVERYTHING IN RELATION TO DEFENSIVE MOTORCYCLE RIDING AND BEING SAFE. HERE'S A DEMONSTRATION OF WHAT I DO TO REDUCE CONFLICT WITH OTHER VEHICLES AND KEEP MYSELF SAFE WHILST RIDING IN BUILT UP AREAS. RANDOM MOVEMENT IN YOUR LANE IS OKAY BUT MAKE YOUR POSITIONING MEANINGFUL, INCREASE YOUR VIEW AND DECREASE YOUR DANGER. YOUR SAFETY ISN'T RANDOM, IT'S DOWN TO HOW AND WHERE YOU POSITION YOURSELF ON THE ROAD.
WATCH OUT FOR MY DECISION MAKING, LIKE WHEN TO CHANGE LANES TO AVOID THE CHANCES OF A COLLISION LIKE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE VIDEO WITH THE MAZDA. TAKE NOTE OF WHERE I POSITION MY BIKE WHEN AT A STANDSTILL. SEE HOW I USE ALL OF THE ROAD TO BE A PROMINENT RIDER AND WATCH HOW I AM CONSTANTLY ASSESSING AND REASSESSING WHETHER OR NOT I'M IN THE BEST POSITION TO BE SEEN. MOTORCYCLING ISN'T JUST A FORM OF TRANSPORT, IT'S A SKILL THAT NEEDS TO BE CONSTANTLY PRACTICED AND IMPROVED, FROM THE MICRO CONTROL OF YOUR CLUTCH TO SMOOTH BRAKING AND ACCELERATION, COMBINED WITH READING THE ROAD AND LEARNING HOW TO PREDICT TRAFFIC BEHAVIOUR.
ALSO CLICK THIS LINK THAT SHOWS AN EXAMPLE OF HOW ROAD POSITION ISN'T JUST LEFT TO RIGHT IN YOUR LANE, BUT FORE AND AFT IN SLOW MOVING TRAFFIC TO CONTROL THE SPEED OF VEHICLES BEHIND YOU REDUCING THE RISK OF REAR END COLLISIONS ...

That was an absolutely top notch demonstrative ride with commentary. This is the sort of short informative video that I could well see being used to show a class of new riders these techniques during a training session.

Thank you for the video demonstration. I am a new rider hardly 2 weeks old and today I had a conflict with a motorist claiming road position. I was confused about which Lane I was actually supposed to be when I needed to turn right, without blocking any traffic behind me and on-coming traffic from the opposite side. I see how you did that so swiftly in this video. A lot for me to learn for own safety.

WELCOME to the channel and to motorcycling mate! Thank you for watching and commenting. There is a lot to learn but enjoy the process and progress. If I only give one piece of advice, that is to ride often, it is all about practice. By all means get tips from people, do training courses but most important is practice. The secret to good riding is to ride smooth and predicting traffic movement. PRACTICE and enjoy.

Lots of great tips as always. Even riding a trike, with limited lane positioning options I always pick up good info mate. Thanks for content. 🛵

@@TheRiderGuider Sadly not yet... I don't see any point in getting my license until I can afford a bike... so hopefully next year. :)

What if your on a 125cc? They havent got the power to get out of danger so would holding back and not overtaking be recommended in the uk? From where I live you get tailgaited if you fall back abit from a van restricting your view. Because people drive aggresivly there.

Steve, this is a great question, I'll spend some time writing a decent reply soon and I'm looking to get hold of a 125cc to do some examples.
