Thank you professor TH-cam University never fails! .... well sometimes it does but nit this time! I was going to get the Uhaul and 8 friends 😅 but with your instruction all I need is my wife 😆 thanks!
This was perfect! The homeowner assumed we needed 3-5 people to remove the pool table but two of us did it by just following your video. The hard part was getting the slate up a stairway with a 90° bend but that just took a little more time.
After watching your video, reading every comment and your personal advice that you answered from experience, I can say with complete confidence and applaud that you are a "teacher". One who revels in the success of others with your knowledge forwarded in hand. A rare personal trait of which to be extremely proud. Respect may come grudgingly and late to the party from those whose life is left only to denigrate but respect will come. A fine man and person.
Thank you very much! I really do enjoy seeing people take the knowledge that I've given them and put it to good use. My dad was the type that, when he said to do something and I asked, "why is it done that way?", he would reply, "because I said so." That was never a reasonable response for me. I've always wanted to know why things work the way they do. The finer the detail, the more it holds my attention. And, for me, "why" is just as important as "how". I firmly believe that when you know exactly why things work the way they do, you're much less likely to want to take shortcuts and possibly/probably ruin whatever efforts you've put into the project to that point. Thank you for the compliments and the recognition of my efforts. You've brightened my day that much more!!!
Used your videos to successfully recover 3 times twice my Dad's bar top and once my table . Billiards Tech's are not available in the rural Midwest. Just so very grateful for your Billiards videos.
Fantastic video! thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was renting a 5X8 Trailer to transport a pool table but clearly that isn't needed. This is the best news I have heard in months!
This was a Great video this video relaxed my thoughts on moving forward with the new table I just purchased and relieved me on trying to move the table with out any issues Can’t thank you enough for sharing your Experience and Knowledge
You did a really good job ecplaining these steps. I got roped into moving a billiard table this weekend andcwas clueless until I watched this. Nice job.
Thank you brother for the very great video job well done first with the pool table and second with your tutorial on how to take it down verry professional and intuitive great job
Thank you..your videos are informative, intelligent and easy to watch...thanks for helping me with looking for a used pool table, and safely moving it...I'll get my local guy to set it up, but thanks for doing what you do
Thank u so much. I’m in rural Missouri and just got a bid to move a table and the mileage surcharge alone was $700, on top of normal move charges and recovering
Thank you for the video tutorials. This gives me confidence we can buy a used pool table that was debating on buying due how heavy it is. Now i see how we can break it down and move it
Thanks for sharing this video. It was very informative. I’ll be installing a new floor so I’ll need to disassemble my pool table. Your video gives me confidence that I can do it by following your directions.
This video is helpful in more ways than one! I've seen many videos here on TH-cam and got less info because some people think they know what they're saying and doing! Boy was I wrong! However, your video was the best by far and I've learned that those holes that hold the rails are what make the pool table even and stable. (besides the leveling part) I now have a concept in mind and will put that idea to the test once I make the design of a new slate for my pool table. - Thanks For The Upload! I Love It!
wow..love this video. I was going to pay to have a pool transferred but now I think I can handle it. I just need a few bodies and simple tools I already have. Thank you so much for video♥️♥️♥️
That’s awesome! I’m glad to have helped. If you feel so inclined, there is a donation link in the description. Every little bit helps me keep the videos coming!
If i wouldve watched this 10 years ago, I could've had TWO brand new brunswick pool tables. I'm so mad and grateful now that I won't miss the next one. Great video. Thankyou. Can u explain saving the felt or even installing new felt? I'm gonna go stalk your channel now... 😁😆
Thanks Doug, your videos are great. I spoke to you some time ago and sent you some pictures of my Brunswick 75 anniversary table. We need to move it roughly 450 miles from PA to NC. Some of the roads are very rough and there isn't any other way out and into the areas. The side rails of the table are 9' long and don't break down any smaller than that best I can tell. We have the table disassembled now and I plan on moving it after Christmas. I am planning on renting a 6x12 boxed U-Haul. I noticed you said to build a create and put in the trailer vertically. I can and will build a 3-section cage to hold the slate as tight as possible and strap to the walls of the U-Haul. I really don't have any other way to move because I know my truck isn't big enough and I don't want to move in an open trail per some of the comments I read before. I have several questions for you if I may: 1) would I want to wrap each slate in a moving blanket? 2) what would I want to have the bottom of the slate sitting on? 2x6 or ??? 3) the table is going to be stored for maybe 1 or several years until I refinish all the rails and aluminum pockets and skirts. They are in rough shape. 4) How do I store the slate until I'm ready to put back together. Does it have to be in a climate-controlled environment or in NC and I ok if it isn't. Thank you for your time. Dale
Hi Dale, First off, good luck with the move. I'm sure it will go just fine. I'll answer your questions in order... 1) No need to wrap the slates. As a matter of fact, the less they're able to move, the better. If you wanted to do something, put two of the slates face to face and the final one facing inward. This will leave the slate frame on the outside and will provide all the cushioning you'd want or need. 2) 2x6 would be overkill. However, they are cheap and can be repurposed. So, sure. That's fine. 3) Climate controlled storage would be best. 4) Store the slate vertically and leaning against a wall (stacked one in front of another). Again, climate controlled storage would be best. Wood doesn't like swings in humidity or temperature. Hope this helps. Doug
Curious if this is a Brunswick Contender series pool table? I am looking at one on line right now [asking $980] that looks exactly the same. It's about 3-4 hours from me so I am thinking of disassembling and transporting it here on my own with a helper and then have someone come in to do the final leveling of the slate and resurfacing. Possibly new bumpers if needed. I might do some refinishing of the top wood frame to if needed. Great video. I think I can handle it !!
This is the third video today where I've seen your smiling face on the other end. First a recommendation from TH-cam because I'm in the market for a pool table. Then I looked for a specific model to recover, and clicked your link, now this. I'm not a subscriber, but I think the TH-cam Gods are telling me something.
Thank you. What a great video. I was given the table for free if i could get it home. Now i know i can. By the way you remind me of vince vaughn combined with dan Aykroyd. Cute!
This is fantastic, thanks so much! How would you move a 8'x4' table that only has a single slate 19mm thick? How heavy do you think that would be? Would you use a dolly or something else?
I am picking up a gold crown III in two days and never moved a table before. Any tips on pinned slate removal? do I just wiggle it but not up and down? maybe a rubber mallet? should I strap down the slate for bumps in the truck bed with rachet straps?
Thanks for the video! Question, since the rails come off as two units is there a reason why you'd continue breaking them apart? Seems like keeping them together would save assembly?
what if the table is single slate? I was planning to have me and 5 buddies just to have enough muscle to move the entire slate at once and reduce risk of breaking it. We are also needing to get a Uhaul just to fit the 8 foot slate, as no one has a pickup with a big enough bed.
Can you just leave the pockets attached to the frame? I’m going to be moving a 7 foot imperial international 3 piece slate table soon myself. I didn’t see why the pockets came off. Great video.
hey doug ive been watching your videos over the past few months, i finally have all parts to re-do my pool table. its an older pool table i cant find any info on it, but based on your videos and info i feel confident i can level it properly, refelt the table, replace pockets and replace rubbers. ill take some pics and videos before and after. thanks for all the info
Hi my table is a golden west. I got down to the slate and there are two screws in the center area and they are full of bondo so i cant get to the screw heads. How do you loosen bondo and get it out of the hole? a torch?
Nope. You want the slates to flex as little as possible. Absolute best way is to just stack them one on top of another. Foam board could let it flex and (ultimately) break!
Thank you for the info! I do have a question however, the table that I am looking at purchasing is a 1920s Brunswick. I was told that it was a single sheet of slate. I guess my question is is that something common for that time. Or are all tables set up with multiple pieces of slate? Thanks again.
Highly doubtful that it's a single piece Brunswick from that era. I've never seen one. All that I've ever seen (or heard of, for that matter) are 3 or more pieces. You won't know (or shouldn't know - if the table was assembled properly) until the cloth comes off.
Hi, thanks for posting your videos. I don't know if you'll see my comment but a few questions I'm finding hard to get the answers to are; can I move my table a few inches this way or that way without dismantling? , And I see you have a rug under that table, our table is on tiled floor and it doesn't have a smooth sound as the ball rolls, could we slide a rug under to improve that, again without dismantling?
My videos go in detail as to why you DON'T want to move a table like that. You might be able to do it. However, you're going to DRASTICALLY increase the chances that someone is going to get hurt or you're going to break slates/wood. I would NEVER recommend you move one like that unless you're talking about specific COIN OPERATED pool tables. Home tables are designed to be disassembled for transport!
Hi there. can I recover the bed with a hand stapler from arrow at home deport? got lots of time. Not wanting to buy a compressor and air stapler. What do you recommended.
Do you have any advice on how to fix the woodwork on a pool table where a dog has chewed all the way around the top? We moved into a home with a beautiful pool table and our dog has ruined it. :((
Thoughts on wrapping the legs, each, with moving blankets, and putting a blanket in between the frame and tailgate? Any benefit of a moving blanket between the slates? I have a Connelly Ultimate to move, 2” slates…..
A group of us moved my 8 footer to a friend's house. I was selling my house, and I wasn't going to just give the new owners an almost new pool table. We moved it in one piece (after removing the legs) onto a truck for a move 30 miles away; put the legs back on,and it was as good as new. But, yes, you are taking a chance by doing it that way.

Hi, is it possible to just leave the cloth on and move the slate like that? Will it mess it up I’m only moving it 10miles from my house.
Just bought a house, and I am needing a guide to disassemble a table.
This just gave me more confidence to doing it!

Excellent video, nearly ready to instruct workers in Turkey to do this for me as I'm buying my first table. Should be fun.
Absolutely amazing. Thorough, detailed step by step instructions.

Same here. Closest billiards shop is in Cedar Rapids, 70 miles from here.
I appreciate the service you provide to those of us who can't afford an assembled pool table people like my self

Thanks. Your instructions are very helpful and to the point.
You're welcome!

I've been dreading this move but your video was awesome and helped a lot. Thank you!

very detailed, thank you
Thank you! I was given a very nice table , now I feel that I can move it the right way and not damage it.
Great concise video. Thank you. Well within my capabilities, to my surprise!
Good video . learned alot . I would wrap the wood with cloth then shrink wrap to avoid scratches
If I were doing a long-haul move I would have. Going less than 10 miles, not really necessary.

Why wouldn't you layer moving blankets underneath and between the slate pieces?
Do I have to take the felt off on a one piece slate table? Also can I transport the one piece slate flat on the bed of the truck? Thanks

thanks for all the info
How much does each slate weigh,I was going to do it by myself.
Thankyou , great video presentation
I'm going to be moving a Dynamo coin operated pool table can it be broken down like that, or just the slate, base, and legs?
Great information!
Hi my table is a golden west. I got down to the slate and there are two screws in the center area and they are full of bondo so i cant get to the screw heads. How do you loosen bondo and get it out of the hole? a torch?

How do you move a single slate top table safely?
Thanks saved me a bundle
if I have a trailer large enough, is it possible to just take the legs off the table and move all 3 slabs of slate while keeping them intact?
My videos go in detail as to why you DON'T want to move a table like that. You might be able to do it. However, you're going to DRASTICALLY increase the chances that someone is going to get hurt or you're going to break slates/wood. I would NEVER recommend you move one like that unless you're talking about specific COIN OPERATED pool tables. Home tables are designed to be disassembled for transport!
Are there markings so you know which way the middle slate faces?
Thanks! After watching this video, I think I can do this. I have a Brunswick Bristol 2. Do you know if the slates are pinned?
Hi there. can I recover the bed with a hand stapler from arrow at home deport? got lots of time. Not wanting to buy a compressor and air stapler. What do you recommended.
Yes. You can.
What if the screw holes on the wood frame have widen and no longer tighten the slate on to the frame?
Hold a Toothpick in the hole while u drill your screw in
Who do you recommend I use to move a table in Orlando Florida ?
Sorry. I don't know anyone in the Orlando area.
Really great video thank you
What is the weight each of the three slates slabs? What is the weight of the 8' frame mines the lages?
You ever get an answer curious myself I only have one helper and she's not as strong as I am

Does it have to be disassembled? Or can it be moved in one piece if you will have a uhaul moving truck??
Yes. Unless you want to take the unnecessary chance of cracking slate, I would HIGHLY advise you do it the proper way and disassemble it.
