Fantastic set & nice to see it in use. I have the aluminum set dated 1959 on the pot & cup, and 1967 for the windscreen. My Alcohol stove has Trangia & three crowns. Can't find a date on it. Mine was unissued, never used & I believe I paid around 15 dollars for it in the 90's.
Excellent video, also I like the way you removed the paint and cleaned up the 2 stainless steel pots. What tools or materials did you use to do that? Getting my one out of storage to use down the allotment and never liked the look of the paint, but I can understand why the military might have needed that. Looking forward to using it for the first time.
Nicely done. I've got an aluminum one that has been good for me after several years of use. I haven't had any problems with it yet, but i admit a stainless one would be nice. /atb
I'm jealous mate! : ) Awesome looking mess kit. I've got quite a collection of different army mess kits from all different army's, but this one is the holy grail haha. Ive got an aluminium one that's in great condition but i just can't find a stainless steel one anywhere, that's not crazy money! So rare nowdays. Anyway, great vid buddy : ) All the best, Jay
+GoonieBushcraft Hi Jay sorry for the late reply, I know what you are saying about the SS Swedish mess kit it took me a long time to find one at the right price but well worth getting one, just to give you a heads up there is one on ebay now for sale but it is a auction and end in 3 days. here the link www.ebay.co.uk/itm/182031998123?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Hope this helps all the best Dave
I was down your way the other week on the barracks its a lovely area you live in and that stove a good find. Think we need to sort out a cold weather meet some time soon maybe at the farm,Barry Mike, and Mr tightwad myself and you what do you think.
I see Europeans using a purple liquid in their Trangias. What is it? I am using HEET or denatured alcohol. Just curious about options. I am also looking for a mil surp type bag to carry mine in, but I can use a backpack.
Coming from one who did military service in Sweden...: Why pay more for the stainless steel variant, when unless you decide to bang your kit against a cliff, the only difference is that the steel variant weighs twice as much?
Cooking in stainless steel is healthier for sure. Weight difference between SS and AL is practically invisible, even if you’re in a long range patrol. They switch on aluminium around the globe not because they think about us, soldiers, but only because it’s cheaper. Cheers, mate✌🏻
I actually plan on accidentally banging it against a cliff and purposefully against other things when in need and I'd like to still have something to cook in after that. The corrosion resistance and longevity combined with health is my driving factor of choice. Plus some nostalgia, to be honest. It's just a matter of priorities and where you'd like to save weight.
Apples and oranges. Some people think Stainless steel is healthier. Some think it adds a Metalic taste. I have been using Aluminum my whole life.. I kinda like how Aluminum mess kits hold the heat... they seem to be thicker...idk.
damn stainless .....lucky dog ...Bonaparte.......mity shiny..... noodles or rice /a few dehydrated vegs...little spice and wahla!!!!let the idiots starve in the dark.....if the dont have swed....
Skip to the 7:00 minute mark for the cook set. And someone please tell him what the hook and second notch in the handle is for, so he can lose the trashy piece of string. david, do your research before you explain about the cool things you buy. You said you searched long and hard to find one, but you never once tried to learn how to use it. Have a good day mate.

The commercial Trangia simmer ring fits the military burner body.
Cheers, I be checking that out.
Love these cooksets. For me they are the best you can get without costing a fortune for over priced name brands.
Mike

it's the same thing, but EU laws mandate that it is sold coloured.
@@stevejohncockram and stinks bad and sooty compared to pure alcohol or methyl hydrate which rest of world has
You’re going to scratch your nice new stainless steel trangia, using metal utensils to scrape about in it, especially using that titanium fork!
Your channel has come a long way since these early videos.
Nice kit 👍 so cool leave it to the sweds

zettle 234 If you know something that other don’t, simply share your knowledge. Don’t be such an arse. ATB
Very well put!! :)
You bloody ruined its value by taking off the paint.
It doesn’t stay that shiny over the years of using the mess kit is now got a nice colour on it from all the fires it has been used on.
