My 8th grade teacher marked me down on a vocabulary test when I CORRECTLY selected ‘hanged’ instead of ‘hung’ in a sentence about executing a man. I’m still angry about it OVER TWENTY-FIVE YEARS LATER.
I have the opposite story, in year 10 my teacher said hanged, and I turned the guy in the chair next to me (we had desks of 2, so everyone had a desk partner) and muttered to him "hung" and she somehow heard me and embarrassed the shit out of me in front of the class. I definetly deserved it
Storytime. We had an exercise that was basically a giant block of wrongly-formatted text, and we had to edit it into coherency. It was about ancient Greece and the gods making sure people treated travelers well. One part of it went (roughly, it was like 15 years ago) "... but no one showed them the hospitality Zeus required they visited many homes..." Naturally, I made it read "... no one showed them the hospitality Zeus required. They visited many homes..." My teacher said it should read "... but no one showed them the hospitality. Zeus required they visit many homes..." And she gave me shit for it in front of the entire class. I remain angry about it to this day.

That's kinda correct tbh, that is effectively what atmospheric pressure is in layman's terms. It's not elegant and relies on ambiguous terminology, but it's a decent way to explain it to a bunch of 13 year olds.

She was essentially arguing that there's a vacuum on earth just rolling around constantly trying to be filled, when that's not at all how it works. The answer is in reality pretty complicated and a lot of things play a part, thermodynamics, tidal forces caused by the moon, the earths rotation, geography, etc.
The star on the card story reminds me of our 6th grade biology teacher who had us count 1-2-1-2 and so on and then said "Okay everyone who is a 2 got AIDS!"
I remember an Agriculture teacher in highschool said I was wrong when I said "infants aren't supposed to eat honey because it is said to increase the risk of exposure to botulism" in a presentation. She said "honey doesn't go bad so that sounds wrong to me". 🤦♂️

Just wanted to say that Lovecraft Country's feel might be a little weird because they're somewhat emulating Lovecraft's writing style. Shorter stories, all contained within the same/similar universe, making it feel a tad "unfocused" if you want to think of it that way.
