This just fixed the system in my 2017 CX-5 that was constantly rebooting, kicking me off bluetooth, etc. The only difference I experienced from the video is that the option I had to choose was "reinstallation" instead of "update" to get from the v59 to v74. The entire process took me less than a half hour. Can't thank you enough!

I went from version 59.00.441 straight to 74 without issues. I don't think it's necessary to get version 70 first but I guess it won't hurt anything. Thanks Killobyte!

I've sent in complaints to Mazda for years as it is LESS SAFE to lock out the touch screen and have to toggle along through all of the options (i.e. using ways to get to routes, etc.) than it is to have the touch screen properly working and being able to simply hit the right buttons on the screen, where your eyes are not looking down at the console and up to the screen vs. watching the road to quickly glancing at the screen......ONLY WISH I HAD SEEN THIS LAST YEAR!!!!!

I went from 59.00.540 EU N to 74.00.324 EU N in one go without needing the 70.00 update 😊 The guide said this is possible providing your firmware is no older than 56.00.100 EU N Overall firmware install time took a whopping 55 mins to go from 0-100% 😵💫 Apparently the EU file takes longer to install than the NA version!

Seems no one has japanese firmware or is willing to share it. Would like to update to latest, since have noticed a few bugs, however worrying that will be unable to do so since unable to find firmware.

I can see how that might be confusing. The updated USB hub is just the USB hub that supports CarPlay/AA. So if you already have CarPlay/AA just ignore that, you already have the updated USB hub. If your goal is to get CarPlay/AA, update the firmware first to a version that supports the updated USB hub (version 70.xx or higher, this latest version seems to work well), then you are good to install the updated hub. Hope that is more clear.

I only have a link to the latest North American (NA) version. There are links to an older version for other countries, but it may not be newer than the one you have.
So, I think I can do this but I want to clarify that it is important to have the engine off during this process. I just don't trust my battery enough to last 20 minutes- up to 40 minutes. So I'd much rather have my car run the entire time, rather than have it shut off mid-update.
Can you do the upgrade with the car running? I've never tried it and I haven't heard of anyone else trying it. I don't know of a reason why it shouldn't work with the car running, as long as the car is not shutoff during the upgrade, but that doesn't mean there isn't a gotcha. With engine off, my suggestion is to have the battery fully changed at the minimum, connect a trickle charger if you have one (or can borrow one), and make sure there is nothing else draining the battery during the upgrade. You could also do a test run to see if your battery will last the full 40 minutes and then fully charge it again before doing the upgrade. Good luck!
Thank you for your quick response! I just wanted to be sure it wasn't something necessary to the steps, since you mentioned "press button only once without foot on gas" a couple times. I'm too scared to test my battery due to me draining it three times already. Darn car camping and dash cam :(. But if I get my hands on a trickle starter I will try that.
Updating to version 74 today, when connecting usb I noticed your system says “update package” and mine says “reinstallation package” did I copy a wrong file?

On your Mazda Connect, go to Settings > System > About and it will show you what version and region you are running. I do this near the end of the video starting at 7:12.

@@Killobyte I've read that Japanese versions are rare and hard to find as JDM Mazdas use a different GPS system than those in other markets.

I believe it is only bug fixes. But the upgrade is pretty easy to do.

Sounds like you did it all right. Try a different thumb drive. They don't seem to like some of them.

I've not tried to switch regions. I'm not sure if just installing the NA region would work or not.

The timer has me a bit worried. It has to be exactly 20 mins, or every 16-18 works?
Every time you do it, it resets the timer. So you can do it every 16-18 minutes no problem.

You would want to download the latest version for your region and copy it to a flash drive. The flash drive should be formatted with FAT32.

Need? If you aren't having any issues and don't care about enabling the Mazda touchscreen to be usable while driving, no you don't need it.
