The Paarthanax quest really ticked me off too because the Blades say that "They serve the Dragonborn", "The Dragonborn is the boss", "The Dragonborn is the True Emperor" etc etc, but when you object to their plan.... ooooh no, can't have that can we... Bastards
Honestly, it makes sense. They want to regain de-facto power over the empire, with the emperor (the dragonborn) as a figurehead. They're the power behind the throne, and if the throne isn't going to support them, why would they support it?
I really wish that when delphine said you're either with us or against us both she and esbern were made non-essential but I get that Bethesda probably wants to use the blades more in the future so re-establishing them is the canon ending
Here is how to fix the Paarthanax quest. When Delphine says "You are either with us or against us" the game should give you that choice to actually make.
If you get Paarthurnax Dilemma mod you can pull rank on Delphine with the help of a shout and she lets him live. Tail trying to wag the dog and Blades need reminding who serves who.
My favorite thing to do on every playthrough is disabling Delphine’s essential role and then blasting her off high hrothgar for the sin of asking me to kill Paarthurnax. I will never do that quest.
good i had to do it because my best stuff was in a chest and i couldn't get it without getting slaughtered because i was on console and couldn't cheat.
Some people would say that bying the bear pelts is cheating the quest giver but actually by increasing demand you are driving bear pelt prices up, thus increasing the incentive for others to hunt bears. It's the smart way.
I've played Skyrim enough that I know all the fetch quest items off by heart and stockpile them. You can't swing a fork of horripilation in the Rift without hitting a bear. I usually have the pelts long before I get the quest now.

Honestly.. to this day.. 10 years later I still wonder why there was never an alternative path for the Paarthurnax quest in Skyrim... Just lie to the blades.. convince them in some way or wipe them out instead...
@@2-bit567 I think the quest is hidden from your journal after you kill Alduin. But the Blades will still not cooperate with you until you kill Paarthurnax.

I remember enjoying it but I see your point. I think some of it's due to engine limitations and some of it is due to trying to force the player to engage with every city in Cyrodiil. As a concept it could have definitely worked better, but as it is, you're right.
Some of those is actually a good thing. I wouldn't want to have to babysit more people through Oblivion gates, thanks. I had enough of that with Farwil.
I always did sneak builds in Skyrim and had no idea for years that Briarhearts are OP- you can just sneak up to them and pickpocket their hearts off of them to instantly kill them.
Glad to know that there was no point to killing Paarthurnax and my choice to ghost the Blades was the right one. About as anticlimactic quest finish as they come! The biggest difference in the Nirnroot quest is that in Oblivion, it's a background "Oh hey, Nirnroot!" when you're doing other things. The Skyrim has you hunting in an enclosed area makes it tedious as hell...
Yeah, you get a bonus effect from Esbern that gives you % ability to do more damage to dragons and I believe there's also a possibility to get radiant quests to go kill dragons with Blades, but that probably bugged out for me... Nevertheless this was actually the first time I did this quest and it's not worth it + Delphine just sucks. You nailed the difference between those Nirnroot quests, it's just lucky to find them all over Cyrodiil and you get a chance to pick them all if you travel a lot, but in Skyrim you're just forced to look around in circles in the same area since you're never really coming back to get them for a second time anyways...
@@ThatsCoolDude You can actually get Esberns potion before killing Mario if you simply don't progress the main quest to meet Luigi at the Throat of the World and do the blades rebuilding and a Dragon Hunting quest before meeting Wario. So the quest is even more useless in that regards.
@@ThatsCoolDude And at that point in the game, I think most everyone is a bit tired of killing dragons (or was it just my game where the spawn rate was just stupid high and you couldn't go 15 minutes without being pestered by another one) Also thought of one additional difference with the nirnroot: Oblivion gives you incremental rewards, so even if you only get some of the lower or mid level versions of the potion, you still get some sense of completion.
@@ThatsCoolDude It's really useless. I do the quests before meeting Paarthurnax, avoid having Season Unending and just leave them there without the chance of even making the demand. Baurus would had been furious if he saw how Delphine is treating the Dragonborn.
Probably the worst one, I've never actually completed this, I remember getting like 2 pages and then loading my last save to not get this quest stuck in my journal forever...

I always commit to completing every quest in the Soul Cairn in one go, and I always use a guide. The rewards are cool and it's a chore but I always do it. Meanwhile I've never completed any nirnroot quests or the Stones of Berenziah - that way madness lies.
I got all of those pages without looking at a guide to find them, it took a few hours to complete the Soul Cairn overall because of it. Jiub can eat my socks.
This is why I like mods. There is a mod that adds to the Paarthurnax quest. Where you can choose to either kill or not just like normal, however, should you allow Paarthurnax to live you can also tell Delphine to basically shove it because they are supposed to be on your side regardless of if he is dead or not. She is easier to persuade than Esbern.
It's almost impossible to complete without a guide (as the illusion spell won't lead them to them IIRC) But on some specific playthroughs it's useful, or for some mods (ordinator enchanting requires gems)
@@matthewtalbot-paine7977 I remembered hearing it was one of the most buggy quests in the game. Supposedly there were multiple points in quest the game could glitch out and you’d have to load a previous save.
@@matthewtalbot-paine7977 You need to bring a filled black soul gem to Falion, then meet him at a summoning circle just north west of Morthal at around 3am. Once you know how to do it it's not a problem but figuring it out for a first time player isn't easy.
I love whodunnit cause its honestly such a nice break from a super hard fight. Some open ended "So long as x happens in the end" thing. The fact they all have dialogue about each other and stuff made it feel really interactive.
You thought crimson nirnroots were bad? Imagine being on your first playthrough, innocently trusting the game to keep you from *mindlessly gorging on your quest items* , then looking at your quest progress to see that you somehow have -18 crimson nirnroots. There's like 4-6 different questions in that scenario, and let me assure you I don't know the answer to any of them, not even regarding why I consumed my entire ingredient pouch on a regular basis.
I did the nirnroot thing once. I swear I thought it was the devs trolling the players once I turned it in to the lady and what I got was a "Oh... 'kay, thanks I guess?" Wtf, lady?! Edit - Delphine's logic is just amazing... like "I wanna punch you in the ear" amazing. "He was bad before, but now that he has realized he made mistakes, regrets them and wants to do what he can to make things better, he's even WORSE!"
8:45 I can't believe how much you glossed over how difficult it is to actually find the Garridan's Tears, sometimes. They're objects, in Oblivion's engine, and they don't always play nice, by which I mean, they don't always stay in one place. This quest has given me so many rage quits because I can't find the last two tears.
110% love jumping spiders. Cute little things wear raindrops as hats. It's just too adorable to ignore! :D Oh and Paarthurnax. One of the only quests I've ever sought out a mod to tell the bent that sent me to kill the best boi dragon to shove it or get "shoved" off a cliff. >.>
Jumping spiders are probably my TOP 3, super cute, but then again... a spider that jumps... The mods for "fixing" the Paarthurnax quest are great, but I still usually just use a console command that works as a "the blades think you did the deed, but you didn't and the Greybeards still talk to you and the dragon boi is alive" kinda command!
I can never bring myself to actually kill Paarthurnax. I've even created a character that was intended to be pure evil, one that *would* realistically kill Paarthurnax, and I just... couldn't bring myself to get that far. I loved fighting for and alongside the Blades in Oblivion, but Delphine can indeed shove it.
I love the Whodunit? I usually don't kill most of them, they just make very bad food choices by eating that apple that randomly appears in their pockets (Nels doesn't eat apples though) then often the 4th person kills the 5th leaving only one for me to take care off. Sure it involves a lot of waiting, but I still enjoy it.
Honestly I remember the first time I was told to kill Paarthanax, well before the mod came out where you could tell her to get stuffed. I never completed that quest, and in fact I made it as clear as I possibly could that I was no longer part of the blades every chance I got by killing anyone in that armor that I could. Fuck them bitches, I didn't see them even attempt to fight Alduin, or even HELP me till AFTER it was all said and done.
I know why garrisons tears never bothered me. It's because I always played an atronach Breton. They should really fix that in the next elder scrolls game.
"Hilund Favor Quest" to find 50 Riekling Spears is one I decided to just console myself past. One of the more annoying for me was Filial Bonds (Dragonborn) because it depends on a random spawn. The one quest I could never complete in my completionist run was "Buy Dwarven artifact". It simply never activated no matter how hard I tried. I had a huge problem with the "Conjuration Ritual Spell" quest by Phinis Gestor in the Mage College because the Daedra keeps trying to attack people in the yard, breaking the quest. If counted, "Stones of Barenziah" is probably the worst I can think of and probably one that no one should consider playing without a walkthrough. The unmarked quest "Composure, Speed, and Precision" was impossible for me to do in VR.
Agreed, I still have the "Filial Bonds" quest in my journal on my main character, wonder when the game will decide to finally let me encounter the guy...
@@ThatsCoolDude I managed to find him eventually by basically walking through spawnpoints over and over and over again all over the island, forcing the RNG to keep 'rerolling' from the encounter table. Out of the 700 quests I did (vanilla, dlc, cc and some big mods included) that quest Filial Bonds were among the very last I managed to finish.
This video really makes me want to play oblivion again. The allies quest for some reason spiked my nostalgia. Especially the gate with four towers and jumping from the bridge to the main tower. This game was so much fun. Great video my friend
You know, I was a little unsure when you started moving away from your old format but this was really well executed and funnier than I was expecting, looking forward to more.
I understand that these are crappy quests, but one of the worst quests ever designed by man is Shivering Isles' Taxonomy of Obsession. The plants are not bad but rather tedious, but the bestiary, may God bless anyone willing enough.
The only time I know of anyone seriously killing Party Snax is their first time playing, they autosave beforehand to complete it just to see what the reward is, and when it becomes apparent that it isn't worth, they reload.
I wouldn't care what I ever got for it (it does help to know it's not worth it anyway, though). Just bugs me there's no alternative way to do the quest, or at least have the option to outright refuse. Most playthroughs now I either just finish the civil war before the meeting happens, or just avoid talking to Esborn after the meeting so he doesn't even get the chance to ask.

I killed parthanaux(probably misspelled) once ... I ended up reloading a previous save, just couldn't live with the guild. I was expecting Saint Jiubs Opus on here
I like the idea of questioning whether crime can be served with time like a sort of statute of limitations but even though they took the time to give paarthanaux some compelling reasoning they are still like nah you've got to kill him. I have a steam workshop mod that lets you go against their will.
ive killed Party Snacks once as well. after getting absolutely no reward i promptly beat the shit out of the Blades and reloaded my save. even if they gave me a completely unique weapon/armor i wouldnt do it despite being a horder of unique items
@@ThatsCoolDude And unless you speed run through the entire main quest straight off the bat without levelling up too much, then 1.5 will be the number of seconds it takes the daedra to tear through them all!
Ahhh good stuff man. I used to tower hop all the time. That was one of the best found features in my countless hours playing this game. Saves so much time. I’d always save before jumping in case I totally butchered the jump. Which happened more times than I’d care to admit to lol.
I'm glad someone made a mod that bypassed the Parthanax BS and had Delphine agree with you to let him live. It amounted to "B*tch, shut up! I'm the Dragonborn!"
Agreed! With some of my characters it fits the roleplay very well, it's just that a lot of people find the quest a little annoying so I shared some tips on getting through it faster!
"Return to Your Roots" is even worse in my mind because you get there AFTER slogging through what feels like a never-ending dungeon from hell. I always hate going into Dwemer ruins in Skyrim because they are HUGE, and if you get unencumbered or die deep in there, well... Always makes me anxious, and Blackreach was the cherry on top.
It's been a long time, but I remember just skipping past Farwell without talking to him at all, grabbing the Sigil Stone, and it still counted as a rescue with him outside the collapsed gate and everything.
The way I do the Cheydinhal gate is to completely dodge Farwill. You just close the gate while he's standing around waiting for you to come. This way he's not actually doing anything and therefore not at risk
You know... I've done this before by just speedrunning alchemy in a corner by making fatigue potions with ingredients stolen from farms to get money quickly, make sure alchemy isn't a major or minor skill, then use the money to buy minor skills to boost your three main attributes as you level. Max speed, acrobatics, and athletics as fast as possible using trainers, then fucking just run through all the oblivion gates. You don't have to pull switches, just jump over the gates like you're climbing a mountain on a horse. I was smashing oblivion gates in less than a minute.
Going to have to say my favorite spider is the sparklemuffin. Yes, that's its name. Pretty little peacock spider, which is a category of jumping spiders.
My favorite spider I've interacted with is the jumping spider funny enough :D. You can take a pencil/stick, place one end in front of them, and drag it back and forth. They're so intense when they watch that stick lol. Then I think I might love brown recluses about as much if they weren't poisonous and pretty much everywhere in my home, but they have their own personality too haha. This makes me incredibly happy to find a potential spider enthusiast and I don't know why XD.
I always liked Garridan's tears. It was a sad pretty story and seeing the knight in the ice was a big deal for me as a kid since that kinda environmental storytelling was rare back then.
Yeah, I liked it - classic Elder Scrolls and very poetic in classic fantasy tradition. Also it doesn't involve killing any innocent NPCs or turning them into slaves for doing something wrong. Oblivion has a kind of mean spirited script but Garridan's tears made it feel more magical.
My favourite spider is the house spider , real simple ,down to the roots , I had one as a pet but she was depressed in that jar with breathing holes so I set her free. Forgot the name of the other species that I liked tho.
If you don't get all 30, red nirnroots the first time, you can go back a while later and they'll have respawned. I only bother getting 15-20 per visit.
It was definitely a mistake to no allow players to complete Paarthunax quest in any other way - at least just a dialogue option "okay, then gtfo and bye forever" would have been enough - just to allow the player to remove the stupid quest from the log. Thank the modders for fixing stuff like this
I love the way you cleared the oblivion gates, because I'm imagining the daedra inside sheepishly reporting in that they lost the Sigil stone, despite none of them being killed. And then there's that one where you beat all of them to death with your bare hands.
OH I hate the stones of barenziah. I used to think of them as just a harmless fetch quest until I decided to do a playthrough where I dont use any kind of thief/assassin build. THEN I learned you cant start the friggin quest for em unless you join the thieves guild! That wouldnt be so bad if you could remove it from your inventory or sell it or if it was weightless. BUT NOPE. Becuase its a quest item it's stuck in your inventory, you can't sell it, and while it only weighs 0.5 that can still be pretty vital when you dont want to drop something with more immediate value. NOw I hate the damn things.
I think that quest items appear to have weight but still don't have any... I recall looking this up because *3 elder scrolls* with the weight of 20 where stuck in my inventory at some point, but with no weight in the end!

I have a mod installed that lets the dragnborn tell delphine that they won't kill parthunax and still lets you be friends with the blades. You get to dialogue-shout at delphine too.
Whodunit is probably one of my favourite quests, immensely replayable and I love how easy it is to turn people against each other, especially with an excess of coin to grease the wheels sorry about Aid For Bruma though, I mostly use command lines to skip the quest entirely

The worse thing about the quest to kill Parthunax is Delphine forgetting her own words to the player after you kill the dragon at Kynesgrove. She said "the Blades existed to serve the Dragonborn" yet she pretty much orders you to kill Parthunax as if the Dragonborn served the Blades. That's why I always have the mod on my Skyrim playthroughs that lets you put Delphine & Esbern in their places - refusing to kill Parthunax. The collect Nirnroot quests in both Oblivion and Skyrim are torturous. Listening to that incessant chime every time you get close to Nirnroot. Also the Crimson Nirnroot in Blackreach is just as bad if not worse. The Whodunnit quest for Oblivion's Dark Brotherhood was one of the best Brotherhood quests (better than Skyrim's Dark brotherhood quests).
Some still would, at least a little, but the fact you get nothing of value for doing it makes the decision easy even for people that don't care about him.
I admire your fortitude and patience. I hate the Oblivion plaines. I HATE them. I never thought something as silly as a game could do that to me but good grief.... You ‘only’ need to close 9 gates for the main quest, but if you enjoy running around in circles in a dark, gory, horrific place, you can... You can also cheese your way through the whole thing! Honestly, Garidan’s tears in comparison were super easy! The Kajit that gives you the quest gives you potions to protect against frost to 100% after you get the special frost crystals from the guild mage. 😉 Finding them on the ground was harder lol. I just finished the Sundercliff (add-on) related quests. I highly recommend them! They are bound to exasperate you at least half as much as they did me. 🤣 PS: You’ll need many many trips back and forth to collect all the cool and expensive loot. 👍
The "reward" for killing Paarthunax is now you get to rebuild the Blades. Esbern tells you to go fetch some random followers you either forgot about or killed with the Ebony Blade (the latter you definitely already did this playthrough if you killed Paarthunax), and with them in shiny new Blades armor you have your own faction and Esbern or Delphine occasionally tell you to go hunt a dragon with the boys...Meh. Favorite Spider: The Daddy Longlegs, I see so many it's the only spider I know well enough to call a favorite.
my fav spider is the trapdoor spider, they make a burrow with a neat little silk hinged trapdoor. also spiders make the best roommates. they're quiet, don't steal your food, they provide spooky ambiance, and they take care of more annoying houseguests.
18:47 It's mostly to do with the way their legs move, they move laterally, which is not a movement seen in mammals, so it throws them into the uncanny valley.
I remembered that I hated Oblivion for being boring, but couldn't remember why exactly. Watching this made me remember: All those long-ass copy-paste dungeons and Oblivion towers.
i managed to venture on and complete the crimson nirnroot mission (mostly cause blackreach was my favorite area in the game and i wandered around it for hours) but in the end it was in vain due to a bug where i could not turn it in and complete it. gotta love skyrim.
The Crimson Nirnroot quest is awful for three key factors atop its inherent tedium: >There are only 44 in Blackreach, luckily only 3 require going inside buildings. *>They do not respawn. Ever.* >They are never a random loot drop. This means you can only miss 14, and that's the most you could ever keep or use.
"Going back to your roots" was annoying, but last time I did it I was traumatized. My game for whatever reason registered that I had -4/30 crimson nirnroots. I was so worried that there wasn't enough spawned into the game to fully complete it.
I learned a lot of your awesome tricks for closing oblivion gates quickly... When I made a save to close them all. Now, only so many can possibly open, so I closed that many. There's probably a mod to get more. But by the time I was done I never wanted to play oblivion again. Ever. ... I also got a mod that changes the appearance of spider daedra, because those things are awful.
Fun fact: once you learn about where the frozen tears are, you can tell S’Drassa about the place and he will give you scrolls that makes you immune to the biting cold.
fun fact: with blackreach, you can leave and it will respawn so you dont have to get it all at once and it be a pain in the ass, you can just leave and come back later and it will all respawn
Part of me wanted you to dragon shout the 'giant orb' in the Underdark just so people stop being like "OMG, did you know it summons a dragon??" Yes, I did... because I actually read the stupid book that tells you to do it.... and I feel like you have also read that book.

When I heard the title I was thinking hated quests that were annoying mechanically, but gosh yes that Paarthunax quest is hated in a story way. I dropped the lot of them instantly when they asked that of me. They really made no good point besides dragon bad, and Paarthunax made a good case about the value of overcoming evil, but my only options were to kill him to side with the blades or do nothing, not side with Paarthunax or convince the blades or go against them, you either kill Paarthunax or don't complete the quest and have it forever looming incomplete in the quest list. Man being reminded of that dumb quest stirred a dormant rage in me.
I don't even remember that conspiracy quest. And I agree about night to remember quest because I'm that one a***ole that loves little details in games and they just didn't think that you already could marry Ysolda
I was giggling to myself for no reason seeing the thumbnail until I saw the damn red plants, needless to say that slapped the funny outta my face in less than a second.
Crimson Nirnroot quest: Get the Heartfire DLC if you haven't already, Build a mansion with an alchemy tower and a greenhouse. Plant Crimson Nirnroot everywhere you can and go out and have fun until it's time to harvest. Boom, done, no more pain. Plus, you'll have extra for potions.
My favorite spiders are wolf spiders. Something about them carrying their kids around with them when they're young is adorable to me. (I used yo have severe arachnophobia, because I became convinced that they could kill me when I was a kid. My spouse enlightened me shortly after we first met about how they aren't actually deadly. I'm very grateful for that now.)
I really like tarantulas... Specifically pink-toed ones... They're just so fluffy and cute! Plus any spider that has venom I just find interesting, I randomly go on bouts of researching what's actually toxic about them. Loved the video btw❤️🖤❤️

It does. You can let paarthunax live by not doing the quest and you get a slightly different ending.

I've played Skyrim enough that I know all the fetch quest items off by heart and stockpile them. You can't swing a fork of horripilation in the Rift without hitting a bear. I usually have the pelts long before I get the quest now.

I remember enjoying it but I see your point. I think some of it's due to engine limitations and some of it is due to trying to force the player to engage with every city in Cyrodiil. As a concept it could have definitely worked better, but as it is, you're right.
Some of those is actually a good thing. I wouldn't want to have to babysit more people through Oblivion gates, thanks. I had enough of that with Farwil.
I always did sneak builds in Skyrim and had no idea for years that Briarhearts are OP- you can just sneak up to them and pickpocket their hearts off of them to instantly kill them.
It's a fun little thing you can do but decapitation killcams are still more badass imo
You got all 5 tears without accidentally kicking one under the ice block in the middle. Congrats on avoiding the worst part of the quest.

The biggest difference in the Nirnroot quest is that in Oblivion, it's a background "Oh hey, Nirnroot!" when you're doing other things. The Skyrim has you hunting in an enclosed area makes it tedious as hell...
Yeah, you get a bonus effect from Esbern that gives you % ability to do more damage to dragons and I believe there's also a possibility to get radiant quests to go kill dragons with Blades, but that probably bugged out for me... Nevertheless this was actually the first time I did this quest and it's not worth it + Delphine just sucks.
You nailed the difference between those Nirnroot quests, it's just lucky to find them all over Cyrodiil and you get a chance to pick them all if you travel a lot, but in Skyrim you're just forced to look around in circles in the same area since you're never really coming back to get them for a second time anyways...
@@ThatsCoolDude You can actually get Esberns potion before killing Mario if you simply don't progress the main quest to meet Luigi at the Throat of the World and do the blades rebuilding and a Dragon Hunting quest before meeting Wario.
So the quest is even more useless in that regards.

Also thought of one additional difference with the nirnroot: Oblivion gives you incremental rewards, so even if you only get some of the lower or mid level versions of the potion, you still get some sense of completion.

I always commit to completing every quest in the Soul Cairn in one go, and I always use a guide. The rewards are cool and it's a chore but I always do it. Meanwhile I've never completed any nirnroot quests or the Stones of Berenziah - that way madness lies.
I got all of those pages without looking at a guide to find them, it took a few hours to complete the Soul Cairn overall because of it. Jiub can eat my socks.
This is why I like mods. There is a mod that adds to the Paarthurnax quest. Where you can choose to either kill or not just like normal, however, should you allow Paarthurnax to live you can also tell Delphine to basically shove it because they are supposed to be on your side regardless of if he is dead or not. She is easier to persuade than Esbern.
You don't even have to kill him in the base game just ignore the quest and the blades
I'm surprised the Stones of Barenziah is not on this list. That quest took me too long to complete and was not rewarding enough.

By the time I find them all I've got like 5 different infinite money exploits set up and don't need gems.
It's almost impossible to complete without a guide (as the illusion spell won't lead them to them IIRC)
But on some specific playthroughs it's useful, or for some mods (ordinator enchanting requires gems)

I love whodunnit cause its honestly such a nice break from a super hard fight. Some open ended "So long as x happens in the end" thing. The fact they all have dialogue about each other and stuff made it feel really interactive.
You thought crimson nirnroots were bad? Imagine being on your first playthrough, innocently trusting the game to keep you from *mindlessly gorging on your quest items* , then looking at your quest progress to see that you somehow have -18 crimson nirnroots. There's like 4-6 different questions in that scenario, and let me assure you I don't know the answer to any of them, not even regarding why I consumed my entire ingredient pouch on a regular basis.
I did the nirnroot thing once. I swear I thought it was the devs trolling the players once I turned it in to the lady and what I got was a "Oh... 'kay, thanks I guess?"

8:45 I can't believe how much you glossed over how difficult it is to actually find the Garridan's Tears, sometimes. They're objects, in Oblivion's engine, and they don't always play nice, by which I mean, they don't always stay in one place. This quest has given me so many rage quits because I can't find the last two tears.

Oh and Paarthurnax. One of the only quests I've ever sought out a mod to tell the bent that sent me to kill the best boi dragon to shove it or get "shoved" off a cliff. >.>

The mods for "fixing" the Paarthurnax quest are great, but I still usually just use a console command that works as a "the blades think you did the deed, but you didn't and the Greybeards still talk to you and the dragon boi is alive" kinda command!
I can never bring myself to actually kill Paarthurnax. I've even created a character that was intended to be pure evil, one that *would* realistically kill Paarthurnax, and I just... couldn't bring myself to get that far.
I loved fighting for and alongside the Blades in Oblivion, but Delphine can indeed shove it.
I love the Whodunit? I usually don't kill most of them, they just make very bad food choices by eating that apple that randomly appears in their pockets (Nels doesn't eat apples though) then often the 4th person kills the 5th leaving only one for me to take care off. Sure it involves a lot of waiting, but I still enjoy it.

Honestly I remember the first time I was told to kill Paarthanax, well before the mod came out where you could tell her to get stuffed.
I never completed that quest, and in fact I made it as clear as I possibly could that I was no longer part of the blades every chance I got by killing anyone in that armor that I could.
Fuck them bitches, I didn't see them even attempt to fight Alduin, or even HELP me till AFTER it was all said and done.
I know why garrisons tears never bothered me. It's because I always played an atronach Breton. They should really fix that in the next elder scrolls game.

"Hilund Favor Quest" to find 50 Riekling Spears is one I decided to just console myself past.
One of the more annoying for me was Filial Bonds (Dragonborn) because it depends on a random spawn.
The one quest I could never complete in my completionist run was "Buy Dwarven artifact". It simply never activated no matter how hard I tried.
I had a huge problem with the "Conjuration Ritual Spell" quest by Phinis Gestor in the Mage College because the Daedra keeps trying to attack people in the yard, breaking the quest.
If counted, "Stones of Barenziah" is probably the worst I can think of and probably one that no one should consider playing without a walkthrough.
The unmarked quest "Composure, Speed, and Precision" was impossible for me to do in VR.
Agreed, I still have the "Filial Bonds" quest in my journal on my main character, wonder when the game will decide to finally let me encounter the guy...
@@ThatsCoolDude I managed to find him eventually by basically walking through spawnpoints over and over and over again all over the island, forcing the RNG to keep 'rerolling' from the encounter table. Out of the 700 quests I did (vanilla, dlc, cc and some big mods included) that quest Filial Bonds were among the very last I managed to finish.
This video really makes me want to play oblivion again. The allies quest for some reason spiked my nostalgia. Especially the gate with four towers and jumping from the bridge to the main tower. This game was so much fun. Great video my friend

I understand that these are crappy quests, but one of the worst quests ever designed by man is Shivering Isles' Taxonomy of Obsession. The plants are not bad but rather tedious, but the bestiary, may God bless anyone willing enough.

“Discerning the Transmundane” collecting the blood samples always gets me annoyed.
The only time I know of anyone seriously killing Party Snax is their first time playing, they autosave beforehand to complete it just to see what the reward is, and when it becomes apparent that it isn't worth, they reload.
I wouldn't care what I ever got for it (it does help to know it's not worth it anyway, though). Just bugs me there's no alternative way to do the quest, or at least have the option to outright refuse. Most playthroughs now I either just finish the civil war before the meeting happens, or just avoid talking to Esborn after the meeting so he doesn't even get the chance to ask.

I like the idea of questioning whether crime can be served with time like a sort of statute of limitations but even though they took the time to give paarthanaux some compelling reasoning they are still like nah you've got to kill him. I have a steam workshop mod that lets you go against their will.
ive killed Party Snacks once as well. after getting absolutely no reward i promptly beat the shit out of the Blades and reloaded my save. even if they gave me a completely unique weapon/armor i wouldnt do it despite being a horder of unique items

Agreed! With some of my characters it fits the roleplay very well, it's just that a lot of people find the quest a little annoying so I shared some tips on getting through it faster!
Allies for Bruma is basically another settlement needs your help before Preston Garvey was around.
None of these holds a candle to Best Left Forgotten, the most aptly named quest in gaming history.
"Return to Your Roots" is even worse in my mind because you get there AFTER slogging through what feels like a never-ending dungeon from hell. I always hate going into Dwemer ruins in Skyrim because they are HUGE, and if you get unencumbered or die deep in there, well... Always makes me anxious, and Blackreach was the cherry on top.
It has been a while since I've played Oblivion. I had forgotten how orcs have human nostrils under their normal nostrils.
It's been a long time, but I remember just skipping past Farwell without talking to him at all, grabbing the Sigil Stone, and it still counted as a rescue with him outside the collapsed gate and everything.
The way I do the Cheydinhal gate is to completely dodge Farwill. You just close the gate while he's standing around waiting for you to come.
This way he's not actually doing anything and therefore not at risk
You don't have to solve the problem when you ignore the problem!

I go in and kill everything, then I go back for him and then run back up the tower to close the gate.
I did not know that was a possibility. Making sure he didn't die was always tedious.
You know... I've done this before by just speedrunning alchemy in a corner by making fatigue potions with ingredients stolen from farms to get money quickly, make sure alchemy isn't a major or minor skill, then use the money to buy minor skills to boost your three main attributes as you level. Max speed, acrobatics, and athletics as fast as possible using trainers, then fucking just run through all the oblivion gates. You don't have to pull switches, just jump over the gates like you're climbing a mountain on a horse. I was smashing oblivion gates in less than a minute.

My favorite spider I've interacted with is the jumping spider funny enough :D. You can take a pencil/stick, place one end in front of them, and drag it back and forth. They're so intense when they watch that stick lol.
Then I think I might love brown recluses about as much if they weren't poisonous and pretty much everywhere in my home, but they have their own personality too haha.
This makes me incredibly happy to find a potential spider enthusiast and I don't know why XD.
I always liked Garridan's tears. It was a sad pretty story and seeing the knight in the ice was a big deal for me as a kid since that kinda environmental storytelling was rare back then.
One of my favorite quests, it just had such a great story and a true adventurer-of-tamriel feeling to it
Yeah, I liked it - classic Elder Scrolls and very poetic in classic fantasy tradition. Also it doesn't involve killing any innocent NPCs or turning them into slaves for doing something wrong. Oblivion has a kind of mean spirited script but Garridan's tears made it feel more magical.
Whodunit is such a fun quest, especially with poisonous apples.
My favourite spider is the house spider , real simple ,down to the roots , I had one as a pet but she was depressed in that jar with breathing holes so I set her free. Forgot the name of the other species that I liked tho.
Keeping it simple I see, sometimes simple is the best.
If you don't get all 30, red nirnroots the first time, you can go back a while later and they'll have respawned. I only bother getting 15-20 per visit.

It was definitely a mistake to no allow players to complete Paarthunax quest in any other way - at least just a dialogue option "okay, then gtfo and bye forever" would have been enough - just to allow the player to remove the stupid quest from the log. Thank the modders for fixing stuff like this

You should try fetching mushrooms for the mage guild in morrowind or going to collect dues

The worst thing about the Allies For Bruma quest is that you don’t actually get extra soldiers. They just swap out Bruma guards.
I think the kvatch guards are the only ones that will spawn and walk to Bruma because I saw them do it.

I love the way you cleared the oblivion gates, because I'm imagining the daedra inside sheepishly reporting in that they lost the Sigil stone, despite none of them being killed.

OH I hate the stones of barenziah. I used to think of them as just a harmless fetch quest until I decided to do a playthrough where I dont use any kind of thief/assassin build. THEN I learned you cant start the friggin quest for em unless you join the thieves guild! That wouldnt be so bad if you could remove it from your inventory or sell it or if it was weightless. BUT NOPE. Becuase its a quest item it's stuck in your inventory, you can't sell it, and while it only weighs 0.5 that can still be pretty vital when you dont want to drop something with more immediate value.
NOw I hate the damn things.
I think that quest items appear to have weight but still don't have any... I recall looking this up because *3 elder scrolls* with the weight of 20 where stuck in my inventory at some point, but with no weight in the end!

I have a mod installed that lets the dragnborn tell delphine that they won't kill parthunax and still lets you be friends with the blades. You get to dialogue-shout at delphine too.

I just realized that Temba Wide-Arm is a huge reference to to the iconic Star Trek TNG episode Darmok.
If the quest to kill Paarthunax gave a good reward, a unique sword or something, then literally nobody would feel bad about it.
I would still feel bad, but the loot is indeed a good motivator...
The worse thing about the quest to kill Parthunax is Delphine forgetting her own words to the player after you kill the dragon at Kynesgrove. She said "the Blades existed to serve the Dragonborn" yet she pretty much orders you to kill Parthunax as if the Dragonborn served the Blades. That's why I always have the mod on my Skyrim playthroughs that lets you put Delphine & Esbern in their places - refusing to kill Parthunax.
The collect Nirnroot quests in both Oblivion and Skyrim are torturous. Listening to that incessant chime every time you get close to Nirnroot. Also the Crimson Nirnroot in Blackreach is just as bad if not worse.
The Whodunnit quest for Oblivion's Dark Brotherhood was one of the best Brotherhood quests (better than Skyrim's Dark brotherhood quests).
Some still would, at least a little, but the fact you get nothing of value for doing it makes the decision easy even for people that don't care about him.
I admire your fortitude and patience. I hate the Oblivion plaines. I HATE them. I never thought something as silly as a game could do that to me but good grief.... You ‘only’ need to close 9 gates for the main quest, but if you enjoy running around in circles in a dark, gory, horrific place, you can... You can also cheese your way through the whole thing! Honestly, Garidan’s tears in comparison were super easy! The Kajit that gives you the quest gives you potions to protect against frost to 100% after you get the special frost crystals from the guild mage. 😉 Finding them on the ground was harder lol.
I just finished the Sundercliff (add-on) related quests. I highly recommend them! They are bound to exasperate you at least half as much as they did me. 🤣
PS: You’ll need many many trips back and forth to collect all the cool and expensive loot. 👍

The "reward" for killing Paarthunax is now you get to rebuild the Blades. Esbern tells you to go fetch some random followers you either forgot about or killed with the Ebony Blade (the latter you definitely already did this playthrough if you killed Paarthunax), and with them in shiny new Blades armor you have your own faction and Esbern or Delphine occasionally tell you to go hunt a dragon with the boys...Meh.
Favorite Spider: The Daddy Longlegs, I see so many it's the only spider I know well enough to call a favorite.

I remembered that I hated Oblivion for being boring, but couldn't remember why exactly. Watching this made me remember: All those long-ass copy-paste dungeons and Oblivion towers.
i managed to venture on and complete the crimson nirnroot mission (mostly cause blackreach was my favorite area in the game and i wandered around it for hours) but in the end it was in vain due to a bug where i could not turn it in and complete it. gotta love skyrim.
The Crimson Nirnroot quest is awful for three key factors atop its inherent tedium:
>There are only 44 in Blackreach, luckily only 3 require going inside buildings.
*>They do not respawn. Ever.*
>They are never a random loot drop.
This means you can only miss 14, and that's the most you could ever keep or use.
"Going back to your roots" was annoying, but last time I did it I was traumatized. My game for whatever reason registered that I had -4/30 crimson nirnroots. I was so worried that there wasn't enough spawned into the game to fully complete it.
I learned a lot of your awesome tricks for closing oblivion gates quickly... When I made a save to close them all. Now, only so many can possibly open, so I closed that many. There's probably a mod to get more. But by the time I was done I never wanted to play oblivion again.

I also got a mod that changes the appearance of spider daedra, because those things are awful.
Happy to help! The gates really get repetitive but, you really only need to close a few to actually end the main questline!
Fun fact:
once you learn about where the frozen tears are, you can tell S’Drassa about the place and he will give you scrolls that makes you immune to the biting cold.

fun fact: with blackreach, you can leave and it will respawn so you dont have to get it all at once and it be a pain in the ass, you can just leave and come back later and it will all respawn

Part of me wanted you to dragon shout the 'giant orb' in the Underdark just so people stop being like "OMG, did you know it summons a dragon??" Yes, I did... because I actually read the stupid book that tells you to do it.... and I feel like you have also read that book.

When I heard the title I was thinking hated quests that were annoying mechanically, but gosh yes that Paarthunax quest is hated in a story way. I dropped the lot of them instantly when they asked that of me. They really made no good point besides dragon bad, and Paarthunax made a good case about the value of overcoming evil, but my only options were to kill him to side with the blades or do nothing, not side with Paarthunax or convince the blades or go against them, you either kill Paarthunax or don't complete the quest and have it forever looming incomplete in the quest list. Man being reminded of that dumb quest stirred a dormant rage in me.
Controversial opinion: "a night to remember" and "the forsworn conspiracy" are both awful, tedious quests
I don't even remember that conspiracy quest. And I agree about night to remember quest because I'm that one a***ole that loves little details in games and they just didn't think that you already could marry Ysolda
I was giggling to myself for no reason seeing the thumbnail until I saw the damn red plants, needless to say that slapped the funny outta my face in less than a second.
When those red plants appear, fun stops.
Crimson Nirnroot quest: Get the Heartfire DLC if you haven't already, Build a mansion with an alchemy tower and a greenhouse. Plant Crimson Nirnroot everywhere you can and go out and have fun until it's time to harvest. Boom, done, no more pain. Plus, you'll have extra for potions.
My favorite spiders are wolf spiders. Something about them carrying their kids around with them when they're young is adorable to me.
(I used yo have severe arachnophobia, because I became convinced that they could kill me when I was a kid. My spouse enlightened me shortly after we first met about how they aren't actually deadly. I'm very grateful for that now.)
I really like tarantulas... Specifically pink-toed ones... They're just so fluffy and cute! Plus any spider that has venom I just find interesting, I randomly go on bouts of researching what's actually toxic about them. Loved the video btw❤️🖤❤️
