My S55 push button didn't work because the old owner had turned it to try to get it off. Not sure if the e55 is the same, but there are brass contacts/wires that snapped. I soldered on little wires, can't remember the gauge, there is a write up in a forum somewhere. Works like new now!

Mby in Cali. But in the winter up north it can take forever for the engine to warm up from way below freezing. Wonder how this pump work in those conditions.
If the switch and the contacts are good, I'd look into the remote for keyless go. There's a remote behind the ash tray for this, perhaps it's gone on the fritz.
The start button wire breaks down where the shifter pivots. Some videos on u tube on this issue. My car had the same problem just extended the wire and soldered the wire and presto the button works again.
If the key less entry and Start button on the knob do not work, check the door handle. There I saw that there are problems on common w211, when the key less entry and the start button do not work. Greetings from Romania
I can't find the list of gaskets needed to do this job? You had stated that you would post some links to the gaskets needed to do this in the description...... Can you please do that.
It’s not the button. It’s in the wiring inside the shifter. I had to fix this on my E55. Every time you put it in gear the wire has to bend 90 degree. Take the shifter out of the car, use a heat gun to heat the soften the glue and use a razor blade on some pliers to cut the glue open and take the top off of the shifter. Once its open you’ll see the broken wire. I used phone cord wire (multi strand designed to flex) and re-routed the wire out the side of the shifter vs the hole its routed through and soldered it place. On re assembly there are actually 4 screw holes where the shifter was designed to be bolted together but for some reason they glued it. Throw some plastic screws back in there for easier fixing next time and off you go.
@@xfmotorsports for sure man. Sorry for the crappy post. I was in a hurry when I typed it, quite a number of typos and such. But yeah open it up and you’ll see what I’m talking about. There is no way that the wires are not going to break over time the way the factory set it up. Just no way. The wire is routed through a drilled hole and it has to bend across that hole almost 90 degrees every time the car is put in gear. It’s insane. I hate to wear a tinfoil hat and say it’s a designed flaw. But when you see something designed like that. Then they glue the shifter housing body together when they could have used screws so a fella could service the thing. Well it sure makes one wonder.
I think he went through this in an earlier video explaining the development of the new lobes. If I remember rightly, the replacement part is only one stage (the scavenge part) of a multi-stage pump so there’s no detriment to the output pressure/flow
I have a 2014 SL550, as well as a 2014 GL550, and each time after sitting for a bit, you hear a ticking upon start up. Checked my oil levels and levels are where they need to be, and just changed the oil and filters. Is this the same issue with the M278 engine?

Smart using the same type aluminum lobe gears used in most dry sump oil pumps.
Clean engine means the owner does oil changes often. That's the key for not having issues on any car. Period!

@@lukerichardgraham6791 and an m272 isn't anywhere near the same engine as an m113

Its not a heat issue. It's a prime issue. Once the gears prime they don't make the noise. It just takes a second for them to self lubricate.

To make it even easier to install the new gears you could add some small allignment grooves to the gears just like when putting on a timing gear.
