Good info. I'm still using a Nuvi 50LM - 10+ years. Works great for the basics. Can't see that the Nuvi 54 is much of an upgrade(?) I'll check out the 2599.
The 42/44/52/54 is nothing more than 40/50 with some graphics changes and different font. No operational difference otherwise. The main reason to get one is because the mounting clip is much easier to get a replacement for if need be since they were used on so many other models. It is also possible to directly swap the 40/50 UI into a 42/44/52/54 th-cam.com/video/rKighWmKAoE/w-d-xo.html
Same here... I have a 50LM that I still use to this day. Fantastic unit... though, the latest map update seems to have taken away "junction view". I kinda liked it and was a little disappointed at its removal by Garmin... but I guess I can live without it. 😕
I'm hoping my Garmin(s) Drive 60LM and Nuvi 58LM will last me as long as this Nuvi 54LM you are reviewing in the video, and I am still able to update mine using the Garmin updater on my PC Thanks.
I have got two Nuvi 3450 with capacitive screens and 12 years later they are doing fine. I find the matte screen models are too slow to respond to touch.
I agree that the matte screens do run a lot cooler than the capacitive screens. I have two garmins with capacitive screens, and the rest have matte screens. The capacitive ones get significantly hotter than the matte ones.
No, but there are two things that can be done to speed it up. Set map detail to "Less" so it has less to draw, and use OpenStreetMap. Route calculation/recalculation speeds up significantly when using OSM. Example here: th-cam.com/video/Q4BSwBoXE7w/w-d-xo.html

It will if the satellites are still working, of course there is the internal map is there!

It would be great if not so sluggish on map view refreshing and route recalculating. Is there any way to transfer that software to newer hardware ?
