Hi dear. I’ve recently started with my independent teaching business I followed a few of your steps and those relevant to where I’m from. I am from South Africa by the way so most of the attention I get it’s from Parkistans/Indian people and the problem is they are always complaining about my charges considering their own currency. Are there any specific countries you can advise me to target cause I believe my charges are ridiculously cheap cause I charge $15 per 45 minutes and 10 lessons for $120. So any advice you could give me. I really need your guidance cause I want to do what you doing and hopefully be as fully booked as you are😊any tips ?
This is excellent content. Congratulations on the success you have achieved, and for giving other teachers hope, to be able to be their own boss. At the end of the day, you have to be aware, that there are many people, who wish to learn another language, be it English or something else. There will always be opportunities for teachers to offer this service, privately, as long as you offer the opportunity, for students to learn, in an attractive way.

It's embarrassing that you made a spelling mistake. There's a common misconception about South Africa not being a native English-speaking country and I understand why. We have a vast amount of official languages and unfortunately people are trying to pass themselves off as 'English Speakers'. This is unsettling to most of us who speak native English and want to teach the language. The problem is that most second language learners can't distinguish between a native English speaker from South Africa and the second language speakers although the difference is crystal clear amongst natives. There's nothing wrong with teaching English as a non-native but declare it and own it. You're welcome for the spelling correction.@@amafriends9152

I'd say go for a business account as people tend to mind your life way too much when they have your personal account (for example: teacher, you haven't sent me my correction but I saw you had time to go to the park with your kids 😂😂😂). The "business hours" thing gets ignored when things get too personal 😊

Hello, Mary. I think your videos are very interesting. I'm wondering by doing something very similar but with European Portuguese. I already have my own students on face-to-face classes and online. I'm giving particular classes and I work for some companies, giving some face-to-face and online courses. I also live in Spain as you. I'm Portuguese and I'm teaching Portuguese and English to Spanish speakers, English and Spanish to Portuguese speakers and Portuguese and Spanish to English speakers. As you can see I don't have a niche because I love this variety. I love speaking three languages per day. That's what really makes me happy. But as you can imagine I have a list of students waiting for a hour to have classes with me. There are coming more and more students and what makes me worse is having no time for them and even though I'm not earning enough money to be a self-employee or freelancer... I would like to know how I could change that. The mayority of my classes are individual and I'm a little tired of it.
Hi Liliana! Your journey as a teacher sounds interesting, the fact you have a waiting list shows how good you are 😊 Have you thought about grouping the students by level? For example, you can group 3 or 4 Portuguese learners together in an online lesson and charge them less per hour (better rates for you as there will be more people paying for the same hour). Have you been thinking about creating a channel on TH-cam to teach Portuguese? I always do number of lessons 😊 10-lesson packs work very well. I don't give them a deadline to use the lessons, but usually a pack lasts for 4-5 weeks 💪

Well, it depends a bit on where you are, your qualifications etc. In Europe it's common to charge anything from €12 to €40 for a 1-hour class but this can be higher when teaching groups or specific purposes. ❤️

Building a course takes time. Best tip is to get feedback from doing one on on to develop a course that can scaffold and support each learner as they go through the steps. Outlining your course can help. Also, asking your students/getting feedback on social media/email list can help you to determine the starting point and where your students are in the learning stages of the topic. Once you understand the basic steps that need to be taken, you can begin to develop a course that could quite possibly convert to an evergreen course once you tweak it after gaining feedback from students who have taken the course.

If you believe you have enough language to share and passion, go for it! If you don't feel very confident, you can try to start teaching low-level students...also make sure you prepare yourself before each class, make sure you anticipate possible problems and are ready to deal with possible emerging vocabulary 💪💪 I have another video about first classes that may help you. How much is it per an hour?
How much would you charge you mean? It depends on the country, the qualifications etc. In Spain, private lessons are usually between €13 - €20.

How much do your charge for a one-hour English class?
Well, it depends a bit on where you are, your qualifications etc. In Europe it's common to charge anything from €12 to €40 for a 1-hour class but this can be higher when teaching groups or specific purposes. ❤️

I think it depends on the place you live and the profile of your students. Here in Spain, teachers are charging around €150 for a 10-lesson pack 😊

How much do you charge for your classes?
Rates in Spain (where I'm currently living) are between €12 - €16 per hour ☺️
To be independent, you have to build a course to teach. Any tips?😁
I don't really have a prepared course, I have loads of grammar and "random topics" lessons prepared on Google slides and I change the order I use them depending on the student 😊 You can have a look at this video to see some examples of how I teach speaking lessons: th-cam.com/video/ByWeWO6FCxw/w-d-xo.html
Building a course takes time. Best tip is to get feedback from doing one on on to develop a course that can scaffold and support each learner as they go through the steps. Outlining your course can help. Also, asking your students/getting feedback on social media/email list can help you to determine the starting point and where your students are in the learning stages of the topic. Once you understand the basic steps that need to be taken, you can begin to develop a course that could quite possibly convert to an evergreen course once you tweak it after gaining feedback from students who have taken the course.

Such an informative video! Thanks! I´m still an English Teaching student (bachelor´s degree) but do you think I have any possibilities of getting students online? I lack experience, that´s why I can´t find any online company willing to take me.
If you believe you have enough language to share and passion, go for it! If you don't feel very confident, you can try to start teaching low-level students...also make sure you prepare yourself before each class, make sure you anticipate possible problems and are ready to deal with possible emerging vocabulary 💪💪 I have another video about first classes that may help you. How about if for example, I want to teach Japanese students living in Canada but they can't speak English yet. Also, I haven't lived in Japan, so how can I connect with them?
