Great advice Tim! There are so many different paths out there for finding your first student and kickstarting your online teaching business. Pick a path you are comfortable in and go for it!
Great advice Tim! I also find it helpful to discover more of your strengths in certain areas through the feedback you get from parents/adult students. Maybe creating a feedback form is a good step for solo teachers, and some parents really appreciate you keeping them involved. And in regards to marketing yourself and finding where potential students are at: Universities are a gold mine! I lived in Germany for a year and I was contacted by TONS of students who wanted mostly Conversation lessons and some reviewing essays. I’d print out A4 ads, include contact number, and charge €25 per hour, meeting in coffee shops. And they would be regular lessons too. There are university notice boards everywhere, and in Germany I could literally walk around the university posting them myself. If not, find someone to help out and give them a free lesson. It’s also a good way to network and get recommended. You could easily do this in any European country. At the time (2013), I had no TEFL, didn’t even know what ESL teaching was, and never taught in any classroom before. But I found where the potential students were and it worked really well!
Loved your ideas about advertising locally! This is a great way to fill other timeslots that might not fill with our students across the world at the wee hours of the morning. Diversifying by time zone is suuuper helpful. 🎉
Thank you Tim. You are always so informative. This is something I want to do real soon. I want to earn more and work less. This is the ultimate dream. Spend more time with my family
Hi Tim, Great video as always! I found my first student through my son's teammates. My challenge is to go from student to student without a vehicle. That's why I'm so interested in transitioning to 100% online classes.
My ideal students are adult intermediate to advanced level speakers. Predominantly, I have taught students like these on platforms and they are mostly located in Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Brazil. What is the best route to find these students now independently?
Hello Tim. It’s been a while since I have caught your videos. So sorry about that. I am definitely missing out! Can you tell me if your course would be helpful to someone like myself? I have a client base but looking to grow. I’m not on social media as far as TH-cam or Instagram for my business and not that interested in doing so. Looking for your input if you care to give any. Thanks so much. ~Nannette
Hi Nannette! I try to meet a few different groups in the course (starting from scratch, have a few students and wanting to grow). We talk about scaling and using Chinese social media is one of the bonuses. Check out the sales page to see more details or shoot me an email!
I am a fresh graduate and I want to start online tutoring but I have no experience and no courage to do it. what shall I do ? I really appreciate your suggestion.
You don't need to be able to teach to teach online. Just be a computer freak, greedy, ambitious and most of all , young and trendy. The younger the better. Old ones (over 40) are not welcome. It also helps if you look effeminate.
A complete load of nonsense. Most online teachers are older than 40 and their experience is valued. You don’t know what you’re talking about I’m afraid but good luck. Not sure why you watched if you have that attitude.

You should just do it and get started, not sure what else to tell ya! Go for it.
Don't believe a word of it.
@@stuartbritton4811 you don’t have to. I have no reason to lie.
