    This idea is brilliant and easy, I took the idea and ran with it. We cut a hole in some plywood with a support for the ball underneath to make it more secure. Around here I didn't have access to pumice so I substituted lava rock then added stainless concrete needles that I bought with my refractory concrete. My dome slipped off of my wheelbarrow onto the patio when we were putting it in place and it bounced and didn't crack. The one mistake I think he made was having the door on the outside, that's fine when your using it but if your trying to hold heat for a longer period of time all the heat goes up the chimney . We set our steel oven door past where the chimney is so after the pizza party is over you can put in a pork shoulder and have pulled pork for the next morning. Great addition to any backyard. Thanks so much.Brad Hansen

      +Glen Gorowsky Sounds good ! Some one said they put half the perlite in a blender to get really fine stuff to get a better mix !

    Good job on the oven. I thought that was a rocket stove in the background then I saw your video on that as well. I was thinking of doing the same thing but just using cob as the oven but the gym ball as the form. I'd just make sure the air hole is where the door would go then when it dried I would deflate it. Then use the pumice or perlite as an insulation layer on top and as a light weight door. I like your idea for this and the rockt stove. That should be really light weight to take camping if you wanted to.

      Seezor Thanks for watching ! This was an experiment in casting on a gym ball and using your cob would be the cheapest method and easy to repair any minor cracks that may appear.

    Thanks for your input and inspiration. I’ve just about finished my oven . Just making a mold for the door and we’ll, here’s my question/idea!! With the door closed we are essentially starving the wood of oxygen and heat will drop . I was thinking of making a few circular holes at bottom of door to regulate heat/are. What’s your feeling about this. Thanks again

    • @jjgrice018
      @jjgrice018  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could try that or just leave door slighty open . Good luck with your oven build Sean !

    Congratulations, great job, I would like to know what measures the walls. mass thickness. thank you

    • @jjgrice018
      @jjgrice018  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's about 1 1/2 inches thick on the walls and about 2 1/2 inches at top area that cops most heat !

    Nice oven.. How much pumice did you use for the oven? Also about how much does a bag cost and what size? I want to make one an was wondering also how it's holding up to high heat.

    I’m using a mix of 1 part plastic cement / high early to 2 parts pumice and 1 part perlite

    • @jjgrice018
      @jjgrice018  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      May be best to do a small test batch to see how the plastic cement handles some heat as I thought it was for filling concrete joints, etc and is flammable ! >www.hunker.com/13401286/differences-between-portland-plastic-cement

    Does the wet pumice cement stick to the dry cement? I see you make the dome shape and it cures fully then you add more to it, does the wet stick to the dry properly?

  • @johnplus5
    @johnplus5 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you John! I just finished my oven. Now it is time for curing. How long before I should deflate the ball and remove the mold for the opening? Do you recommend periodically misting the oven with a spray bottle to slow the curing?

    • @jjgrice018
      @jjgrice018  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +johnplus5 Congratulation on your oven build, a week curing with damp rags and cover with plastic before deflating ball is enough ! Had a few small cracks top of dome that cops most heat so i turned over and added extra inch of mix to inside top of dome.See my new build here.th-cam.com/video/1tXuWRhS-No/w-d-xo.html
