DIY Wood Fired Pizza Oven Build (Ireland)

  • Inside Measurement of the Dome itself:
    70cm (27 1/2") tall - 90cm (35 1/2") wide
    Base for dome: 122cm wide x 168cm long
    Wall Thickness:
    15cm (roughly 6")
    This dome was made in 2 stages:
    - 1st stage perlite
    Wire mesh
    -2nd stage perlite
    Materials & Cost:
    - 2 tubs of fire cement £20
    - 1 roll of chicken wire £20
    - 1 can of water sealant £15
    - 1 bale of Rockwool £30
    - 6 bags of cement £30
    - 4 bags of perlite (100 litre) £64
    - 1/2 of an 8ft-4ft trailer of sand and gravel £20*
    - Roughly £25 for oven door materials*
    - Around £25 If you make your own pizza oven tools (shovel, brush, etc.)*
    - Reclaimed red brick £10*
    - Reclaimed ornate brick and chimney cover £40*
    - 54 firebrick £270 (1/3 of this price if you go to a salvage company)*
    - 1 exercise ball £10
    - Sandstone*
    - Chimney or clay pipe*
    - Plywood and framing £30
    [*source specific]
    Health & Safety:
    - Respirator/dust mask
    - Goggles/safety glasses
    - Light gloves & heavy
    gloves
    - Earplugs/earmuffs

    Beautiful design, mate! I love how you regulate the oven temperatures with the adjustable door. Absolutely brilliant and worth the time in building it.       ​@@Anteater23 Height of the dome is too high. Height of the dome should not be above 1/2 of the diameter of the oven. Also the opening is too big. Check some italian forums for exact numbers.

    hi Vincent, thank you for doing this Video ive been looking at pizza oven videos for tips before i commence mine in the coming weeks and you have given me some great tips and idea's. i really do appreciate it.
    a quick question if i may: when you did the perlite cement mix in 2 coats what would you estimate the weight to have been. just so i know who to ask when moving it around.

    The great thing is you can cook soo much more than pizzas in that wood fired oven. Pizza breads meats cakes cookies. Basically anything you can cook in an oven.

    What's the odds of an Irishman having plentiful bottles lying around. I would have loved to see the pizzas done and eaten that's what I was waiting for the whole time. Nice job I take it you're a metal fabricator love the door and the handle especially

    Cheers for the video Vincent, I am halfway through building my own based on your video. Made the dome this morning. How did you find lifting the dome once dried? Was it fairly solid and did it weigh much. Cheers, Ben (from Dublin)

      It was quite strong Benjamin, just give it plenty of time to dry out and cure it will also get a bit lighter and have a few good hands to move it! I got my family to help me move mine hence no footage as the camera man was on the pick also.

    What a great instructional video. You did a great job, as did your son. Now I am trying to work out where to build mine. We will have to stop taking the empties to recycling for a while, LOL.

      Glad you enjoyed it Brian, Yes where to build it! that can be tricky like I said not close and not to far a way! Smoke can come into the house if it is to close, and to far a way means your pizza can get cold and utensils are not at hand sometimes. But the main thing is build it! And good luck.....
