  • Back in December right after Andrew build up his Alpine Trail Carbon 2, I decided to build up my own. Ironically Andrew ended up missing a 27.5, so he sold his Alpine to get a Transition, but he still enjoyed his time on the Alpine Trail.
I’ve been riding a Marin Wolf Ridge 9 for the last year or so and so I decided to rob some of the parts off of it and build up this Alpine Trail.
For a longish travel bike, weight came in around 32.5 lbs (w/pedals) so not too bad. The tires and wheelset are a bit chunky so you could lose some weight there.
Since this video, I’ve ridden it around Houston, took it to Spider Mountain (outside of Austin) and it has been an enjoyable and rewarding bike.

How would you have specced out your Alpine Trail? This bike actually may or may not be for sale now, so if interested, let me know!!

Thanks! I miss that bike. The frame, fork, and shock were sold to my old mechanic who is now riding it in Bentonville, Arkansas

Why did your friend switch from the alpine trail to the scout, I know you mentioned 27.5 but is there more to that? Thanks!

Thanks for your question which is a good one and one I’ve had myself! He has always loved Transitions (and actually works for them now up in Washington so go figure). He also likes to go through many different bikes which is pretty common when you work in the industry. He enjoys building them up, rides them for a bit, and then will change them or sell them.

Potentially running over a rattlesnake while biking in the summer has always made me a little nervous. Stay safe out there!

Me too! I will say in the 19-20 years living in Tucson, AZ I never met a rattlesnake while riding (that I know of). In the last couple years I’ve come across probably 5 or so snakes on the trail for some reason! 3 almost head on collisions with copperheads! Luckily each time, we both looked at each other and apologized and went on our way :-)
