    I couldn't agree more filing vs clipping. And Ana from Bliss Kiss posted a study a few years ago that concluded filing in both directions has no adverse effects. Great, because I always have. 😊

      I've actually been truly shocked how much of a difference not clipping has made. I used to think I had really weak, breakable nails, but I honestly think it was 90% clipping that was the problem.

    On the subject of whether or not you need to let your nails breathe between manicures: I've actually found that having the layers of polish adds mechanical strength to my nails just by giving them some sort of support material. Even though I have fairly thin and kinda peely nails that break often when left alone, the combination of a nourishing, strengthening base coat and other layers has meant that my nails break SO MUCH less often just because they have little armor on them at all times.

    I do clip AND file, though. My nails seem to grow very fast. I went thru a period where i only filed and it added too much time to my routine. So now i clip to just above where i want them to be and file down (with glass).

    Great video! Your channel is one of the main reasons I was able to recover my nails from a couple years of salon gel polish manis and removal (the drill got me!). I take time every week to pain my nails, file with the high quality glass files, and I use oils multiple times a day, every day! So thank you SO much for doing what you do. I really had wondered at one point if I'd ever be able to get my natural nails back in good condition. It took a long time, but I did it! Using a glass nail file has been one of the best recommendations I've taken from you channel! I've had the same glass nail file since 2019 and it was the best purchase ever: the file doesn´t get dull, it's effective yet gentle on the nail and you can wash it after every use, which makes it much more hygenic than regular ones. Also, being made of glass I thought I had to be extra careful when handling it. But I've accidentally dropped it on the floor quite a few times over the years and it turned out to be much more resistant than I believed at first.

      @@KelliMarissaMy sister recently got me a 200 count box of pre-soaked Gel Polish/Nail Polish remover pads and they work really well, but the problem is that it states that it's one nail wrap pad per nail. Although, I tested out a theory where I tried to remove the Polish off 5 nails on one hand and it works.
      All I did was remove the pre-soaked nail wipe from the wrapper and used it as if I was using a cotton ball with nail Polish remover soaked into it. It does not contain Acetone, but it still left my skin with white stuff.

    Just curious about the remover and Madeline’s polish. As someone that enjoys wearing a manicure for at least a week, I am used to dehydrating my nail plate to ensure it stays on a nice long time. You mentioned these products have moisturisng ingredients, so would they not make my manicures last as long?
    Also recently found out my ferritin levels have been “borderline” low for years and only has been mentioned to me now really. So I am going iron supplements help with my nails and hair. Never put 2&2 together before. So definitely if you’ve tried some of these tips consider getting a blood test.

    Regarding collagen: preface this with I am not a scientist, this could be coincidence not correlation, but I've noticed my nails have been in better condition when I've been taking collagen vitamins. I had seen stuff on the internet about taking collagen to help improve hair/skin/nail/joint health, so I decided to give it a shot. Took the vitamins for a while, didn't seem to have any obvious results & wondered if this was really doing anything. Decided to not buy anymore after current bottle ran out & see if there was a noticeable difference when I stopped. And there was! My nails got to be super peely & brittle again really bad; until then I hadn't realized they had gotten better for awhile. After a little bit, I decided to start taking them again & the peely-ness has gotten way better again & my nails have been feeling stronger. Could definitely be other factors at play, but the correlation with the vitamin taking has personally led me towards continuing the vitamins.

    Hey Kelli - thanks for this video. It's not like I don't have waaaay too much nail polish already, but decided to try the Modelone's Ridge Filling Strengthener in Pink Glow and it's really nice. I usually avoid colours like that because I have very fair skin but it looks quite nice and not too summery. I can grow my nails to claw-length with just oil but the minute I add polish they slowly start to crack and split and I'm constantly repairing. I'm hoping it won't happen now. I also ordered the remover in the bottle and the pot so we'll see how that goes. It just makes for a nice easy manicure, no basecoats, topcoats etc. (though I may have to add something glittery just to the tips ...) and it dries fairly quickly too. 🌸

    Thanks. I have for the last few years only been wearing nail strengtheners, but when I started watching you recently, I started putting color on my nails and immediately got yellow/orange nails. I was using OPI Nail Envy as the base coat. Then I tried bleaching my nails with baking soda and lemon juice, which did help a bit, but they are still yellow. I put the Nail Envy first, then Orly Bonder Base Coat before the colors (I have gotten some ILNP, Essie and others). It seems to be that I have easily stained nails. I take a lot of vitamins, have been drinking a multi-type collagen with Biotin in it since November, and drink a lot of water. They are really much stronger and I have been using Essie cuticle oil for the last month. I am a bit jealous why your nails are so perfectly white. Oh well. Thanks for the advice.

    So, do you not use Rejuvacote2 anymore? I have been using it and it’s been great for my nails until recently. It doesn’t seem to be helping. My nails are cracking at the edges where the free edge starts. I don’t know if it’s because I’ve been sick (ear & sinus infections) for the last month or so or maybe the meds I’m taking or a combo of both. I’m going to get a couple bottles of the Modelones and see if that helps. I have 8 cracked nails😢
    My nails were doing great and now that it’s almost the best time for nail art I had to file them down. 😩

But every little bit helps, lots of cuticle oil and strengtheners!

      I think people forget youtubers are here to also sell so if you note Kelli is plugging a lot of Modelone products here. Obviously some things she comes across she will love it hate herself and tell us accordingly therefore what she uses will change from time to time. Like everyone sometimes she will stick with old faithfuls in products. You say you've been unwell so that can play a part or age aswell as hormones or change of ingredients in products. Take what youtubers or anyone says with a pinch of salt and go with what works for you ultimately if you do try products, I'm sure Kelli agrees.

  • @eponinesg
    @eponinesg หลายเดือนก่อน

    I love your answer to the crime question so much, it's very much in line with what I know about you as a person. I'm also a total rule follower for most things, I'll use my turn signal when I'm the only car for miles up in the mountains. Like who am I signaling for, an elk? The squirrels? It makes me so nervous to think I'm doing something that could get me in trouble, lol. Zack is the total opposite and is an absolute chaos goblin and it makes me SO NERVOUS when we're on vacation and stuff.
    Also, the upcharges for almond and oat milk are getting so wild it's to the point where THAT should be a crime. Like oat milk has to be so cheap, there's no way it isn't better business to use that for everything as the default and then upcharge to regular milk 😂

    I oil as much as I can. I went a few weeks without really oiling and I noticed a difference. My nails started to peel and we're brittle. I make my own oil, I bought a 16oz glass pump bottle and an 8 oz bottle of Jojoba oil and a bottle of Vitamin E oil. Mix them in the bottle and it lasts me for awhile. I have pens and squeeze bottles everywhere. My car, work, my travel bag, next to my bed and chair.

    When it comes to removing polish from one finger without wrecking the rest of your polish, I use those little finger condoms you can buy in the first aid section. They protect the fingers I use to hold the remover.
    I started carrying a small tweezers in my pocket at all times. Pretty much everything I would use my nails as tools for can be done with the tweezer instead, so caring over makes it simple to avoid busting my nails as I have a convenient alternative.
    Also, bank robbery. For other (more important) reasons, too, but I would love to have more resources for all these phenomenal polish launches!

    I've never met anybody who doesn't use kitchen gloves, other than one lady who would use a scrub brush so her hands were never in the water.
    I clip my nails, but I don't do it all in one go, I use the edge to clip across in small bits to not bend my nail, then file (not the orange emerys, it's some tiny grit blue file) a little to smooth it out. I can't stand the feeling of filing that much off at once. And I've tried glass files, but my nails split and also the smell was so bad!
    I've sworn by a scrub tub for years, but having foam instead of soft "teeth" looks interesting. I'll have to give it a try.

    My tip for filing: don't use lots of pressure, the grit should be doing the work for you! If you have flexible nails and you're filing back and forth with a lot of pressure, that's not good. I preach because I suffer from a heavy hand and my poor corners have had enough of my nonsense for a long time. 😅
    Edit: I'd get away with stealing from the rich. More Jeff Bezos than anybody else. A)That's genuinely too much money to have and B) would he really notice a couple hundred thousand missing? Like, really? And of course, I'd take a share (because I'm genuinely struggling to find a job) and then give a share to some of my friends who are struggling and then donate the rest to an actually trusted charity or nonprofit. Yes, you could argue he'd be hurt. And if so, invalidates my whole thing. But still, it's nice to dream about being a sneaky little Robin Hood. 😈

    Is there a big difference between using a strengthening remover vs pure acetone and then washing and moisturizing or are they sort of the same? I usually just use acetone but if they make a big difference I might try some different things. Thanks so much for these videos!

    • @KelliMarissa
      @KelliMarissa  หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a great question - I think it's probably somwhat similar to using regular remover and then something like a strengthening/vitamin e cuticle oil, but acetone does dry out more layers of your nail that are a bit harder to moisturize so it will take a bit more time to rehydrate! Personally I only use pure acetone for cleanup because I don't love how much it dries me out when I use it as remover!

      If you're still using polish on your nails, you should stop and let the damage (the peeling) grow out. While you're waiting for it to grow out, try doing warm oil soaks weekly at the bare minimum in addition to regular moisturizing with nail oil and hand lotion. If you need more resources, The Salon Life on youtube is great for natural nail care.

    the only reason i can put it on often enough is because i got several pens. I leave them all over (including in the car) and use them when i see them. My jojoba oil came with a little nail polish brush and eye dropper but they don't compare, they're way more messy and there's too much oil so my hands stay oily.
